To me both D28 and D35 have more bottom end and sound more articulate. But both HD28 and HD35 slightly brighter and more balanced. They all sound fantastic, but I think I prefer the original D versions to the HD. Cosmetically I like the HD28 the best.
Funny you say that. The HD is closer to the original d28. Back then it wasn't called the hd28 it was just called the D28. But they had herringbone and scalloped x bracing. It was discontinued then reintroduced and now they offer both. Still waiting for a straight braces version of the d18 though 😂
They all sound truly amazing. For me though, I prefer the D28 or the HD28 based on one simple thing and it doesn't have anything to do with tone: I just don't like bound necks. That's just my preference.
@@joshleyba3854 don't get me wrong, I love the D35. It's a great guitar. It was neck and neck between the two when i bought my 28. I love the sunburst finishes on the d28 and d35.

@@Ledzepfan88 The pre 2012 d18's are straight braced. I had one and it sounded great. It is funny how the hd came about and the nomenclature.

I just got a D 35 in sunburst and could not be happier with the choice

I like the feel of them without the bound necks slightly better but I like the looks and I like that the side dots are easier to see.
