Michael Learned brought Olivia Walton to life with so much love and warmth. Working with Michael was very special and watching her work was a master class on acting. What are your favorite Olivia Walton moments?
The favorite???? I think it has to be when she caught out John and Grandpa drinking (sampling) the recipe at the Baldwin sisters. And their reaction to being caught. Makes me smile right now and every time I think of it.
I thought michael was great as olivia the one episode that I really liked well actually 2 the search and the Christmas one with the english children it really pulled at your heart strings
Nope, not the Ingalls. The comparison is all too often done( since many folks liked both) and not as applicable as some think. In my house, my family loved LHOTP
I didn't get Little House.....much to contrived. I was the one who faithfully insisted on CBS at 8pm every Thursday to ....for that hour....be a Walton. My family didn't get how real & loving The Waltons was. They had real problems that didn't get tied up in a pretty bow all the time. They didn't fix the world for each other, they made what couldn't be fixed livable. They helped each other through even things they disliked/ disapproved. They treated each other with fairness & love. No wonder my fam didn't get it!.
I grew up in a highly dysfunctional family and I watched The Waltons every week because it was medicinal in a way, I wanted to be in a family like The Waltons and by watching the show I was able to escape my misery for awhile. It's unfortunate that there are no shows like The Waltons on TV anymore
The polio episode, the bicycle episode, the honeymoon at the beach episode, and the painting art class episode are among my many favorites with Michael Learned. Best TV mom ever! ❤
I had the immense pleasure of meeting Michael and Ralph in person when they preformed together at a theatre in Ont Canada. Michael and I chatted and through my tears I thanked her for helping me get thru my depression, and she shared with me that filming the Waltons helped her with her depression. I left her after we hugged...... I will never forget that day!!!!!What an honour!!!!🥰
John and Olivia's love was so real on camera that I feel they must have had a genuine love for each other in general. As wonderful as the show was for so many reasons, their relationship carried the show.
Michael Learned had admitted that they actually fell in love with each other but because Ralph was married they didn’t take it further. Not sure why Judy Norton didn’t mention this.
i am 55 years old and grew up with your show, The Waltons, i watch it everyday to this day, and it gives me great comfort , I just lost my own mom who was 93 years old on sept 3rd , she loved it too, Thank you so much and i will be watching your posts from now on, and thank you to all of the Waltons :) xo
the chemistry between michael and ralph was so real,i truly thought they were husband and wife in real life ,SO REAL was this show in my life, thought it was true...still love watching every year i go through the whole seasons...thank you guys!
I love that episode where Olivia wanted to have another baby, but couldn’t. They took in a foster baby. She became so emotional when it was time to give the baby to her new parents. She portrayed a mother’s heart so beautifully. I also loved her performance in The Easter Story episode when she wanted you to learn how to dance and wear a beautiful dress. It was so believable and so touching.
I like both those stories and the one where she did get pregnant and lost the baby. Her and John said they were looking forward to alittle Joy in there life.
The one I liked is when Olivia had polio; Erin is crying her heart out because she does not want to see her mother different. Erin massaged Olivia, and Olivia was walking once again real well.
My fave moments were grandma comes home from the hospital and shes the one who realizes why grandma is so frustrated. Another is the easter story. She was magnificent all the way through that one.
I loved moments she shared with Ralph. They were so fun loving and enjoyable. I definitely enjoyed her as Olivia Walton. I named my second daughter Olivia.♥️
I always like when John called her "Livvy." It seemed that was his pet name for her. Olivia is a beautiful name but Livvy would be cute for a little girl. BTW, I know 2 women in their early 50's now that grew up watching the Walton's and named their daughters Olivia.
Michael Learned was the perfect choice to play Olivia Walton. The episodes where she contracted polio and tuberculosis were two examples of her gift as an actress.
I find myself watching the Waltons more with every thing going on .simpler time with good family values.good memories growing up watching the Waltons.wishing the country had more families like that
I've watched every Waltons episode, hundreds of times over the years. As a child growing up in the 70s in a family of 13 kids, I have many fond memories of us all gathered around the TV to watch The Waltons. You're giving me so much joy with these behind the scenes videos, so you are much appreciated, Judy! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! ♥️
Judy, My wife and I enjoy The Waltons reruns, we watch daily M-F. There are different scenes where we will glance at one another and we'll both have tears in our eyes...What a great show it was.
I don't think I could pick a single moment but the chemistry between she and Ralph was so real as a long married couple. Though Olivia always tried to be so proper, John could always make her laugh and he had this naughty little twinkle in his eyes and though she would feign protest..she would laugh along. It was so natural and so endearing. I have a special place in my heart for this show as it was a lovely part of my childhood. Thanks so much for sharing :)
Judy, thank you SO VERY MUCH for these videos! My name is Kimberly Wakeman and I am fifty eight years old (born in 1963,) and grew up watching you and the Waltons! I ALWAYS wanted an older sister and used to pretend YOU were that older sister! I was between Kami and Erin's age so I would always tell my mother, "Mary Ellen is so pretty and fun! SHE IS my older sister!" Such warm memories you bring me- and the whole Waltons cast and show! My mother (born in n1933) used to like the one scene where you said you were going to "be Sarah Bernhardt and go on the stage!" , and Grandma said, "Good Lord Mary Ellen, you better read your bible!" or something to that affect :) !!! She always laughed about that scene! She said "Mary Ellen is a teenage rebel for those times! " She and I loved you too for your spunk and dynamic personality- we both got a kick out of it! I loved when you said, "Curtis Willard, I wouldn't marry YOU if you were the last man on Earth!" ... then the next scene: "Do you, Mary Ellen Walton, take this man, Curtis Willard to be your lawfully married husband?" "I DO" !!!!! SO GREAT! Have a beautiful day, Judy! WE all LOVE you and you are WONDERFUL and SO PRETTY! I am so thrilled to be able to write this to you after all of these years, and I hope you see this message from me because I hope such talented actresses like yourself realize the love, warmth, hope, and camaraderie you bring to your admirers and fans through television! I have such respect for you as such a warm, creative person! Thank you!!!! Kimberly Wakeman
Yes Thank you for taking the time to reach out to fans of one of the world's most iconic shows I watch them to this day! The cast was just amazing right down to the dog Reckless! Still in Love with The Waltons! ❤
Patrica Neal was amazing, but I can’t imagine anyone else playing Olivia in the series. She was “Mama.” And “Liv.” On another note, I always found it funny when, on the episodes, when Olivia or John couldn’t sleep, Olivia would always say, “I’ll make some coffee.”
Patricia Neal, I thought, delivered such a stiff and almost cold portrayal of Olivia in the Christmas movie. It was just so flat. When Michael became ‘Olivia’ the character literally came to life with a heart and personality. Actually, the same can be said for the actors who played Grandpa and John in the Christmas movie, then those two truly came to life when the roles were recast. Whoever went on to recast these three characters was brilliant. My favorite show of all time - I still watch reruns it every day. It takes me to a time I need and I think most do desire the qualities portrayed in the show.
You know, it's funny coffee actually does help me sleep. I know it's weird my body's strange, but if I drink a cup of coffee before bed I sleep better for some reason. Don't ask me why I guess my brains wired wrong. Lol. But yeah that always would crack me up, they can't sleep and they're drinking coffee, I don't think that's going to help the situation. Lol.
Not only did I love Michael Learned's acting, but I want to mention that I admired her dresses, and rounded collars! I learned to sew my own dresses when I was 25. That's 33 years ago now. And I used to buy fabrics so similar to Olivia's and make round collars on them and loved them - daily wearing them raising my own 9 children. Olivia, the actor, sure blessed my life as she was so much like myself. And that was an encouragement to me. I still wear homemade dresses daily and just love it.
@@judynorton2598 it sure did, I can't believe I did it 🙂 I can't believe I gave birth to that many either. I loved every day of being a mommy. Now I'm loving my grandchildren so much too! God bless you Judy!
What amazes me, is the chemistry among the cast. It is what made the show a success. Of course the writing was absolutely wonderful, which also helped.
I loved the grandparents and their interaction with Olivia - everything about the show including the goodnight scenes were so wonderful. As a child, I longed for this kind of ideal family - I didn't resent it though. Great show and great actors.
I really enjoyed the show. The wisdom of Zeb, the sternest of Ester, the determination of John Boy and the loving kindness of Olivia and John. The rest of the family all did such a good job. I wish my family cared when I accomplished something but they were all to preoccupied in it’s all about me world.
So good to see you. Thank you for the story. I'm 53 years young and still watching the Waltons. One of my favorite shows. Everything about the show is magic. Earl Hamner's narration opening every show is the best, total genius -- goosebumps. The closing is the best, total genius -- goodnight John Boy -- it doesn't get any better then that. When you lost your husband at pearl harbor and grandma gave the letter to your daddy to read was so powerfully poignant and touching -- my favorite episode. I'm welling up with tears right now just thinking and writing about. Thank you for this gift... Thank you for the Waltons. May God bless you and yours.
I grew up watching the Waltons and loved every show. I have just bought the box set and letting my children experience the Waltons. They enjoy it as much as I did. Thanks for the memories
Judy I want you to know what the Waltons means to me. I’m 56 years old and grew up watching the Waltons. I grew up in an abusive home. I am an addict as well as an alcoholic. I’ve been clean and sober for 11 years. I am in an abusive relationship. I found your reruns on Hallmark. I tune in daily. I find watching The Waltons is something that is a. great comfort for me. Michael Learned and Ralph Waite have always been my dream parents. You and your costars are my dream siblings. Yes I realize that the Waltons, though based on a real family , are just characters well played by yourself and your cast mates. I want to thank you for organizing the reunion on here. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for keeping The Waltons alive. I extend my love and gratitude to you all for giving me a “safe” place in a world that has been unkind. Bless you all! ❤️
Thank you for sharing. Well done on being clean & sober for 11 years- continue and I hope you are able to move on to a better relationship. Glad to hear The Waltons helps.
Thanks Judy and to the other cast members/producers/writers/directors and crew, who connected so memorably with millions across the planet (I watched from Ireland) and that connection seems even more powerful today and that's about as special as it gets.
Where have all the kind and loving tv families gone? I do miss the tv shows that depicted caring families rather than the mean spirited ones we see today. The Waltons was a favorite.
what a joyful video Judy- thank you for sharing. If we could just get more people to watch The Waltons and live simpler, kinder lives, our country would be more united and loving. The Waltons series is my goto happy place when I need to de-stress and feel comfort.
I love the double episodes when Olivia contracted poliomyelitis. She acted it so perfectly. And to watch the way John and grandma took care of her and John boy getting the professor involved. It yanks at my heart and I always cry with sadness and then cry with joy.
The chemistry between Michael and Ralph was terrific. A perfect match. I liked the fact that they wrote some excellent scripts for her such as: learning to drive, her brush with polio, menopause, and being a substitute teacher while Mrs. Ford wick was away. Great stories.
There are many things that made the show one of the best ever. The chemistry between Ralph and Michael really was unique. I felt the same way about Will Geer and Ellen Corby. Of course, the talent of these 4 actors was unique as well. Thanks for another good video Judy! 💖
One of the things I liked about John and Olivia is that they always were affectionate with each other. Little moments of stolen kisses and hugs were comforting to watch. You don’t see that type of love now days.
Its so generous of you to take the time to share your stories on and around the set and pf all those wonderful people you worked with. I was thinking about this the other day and boom here you are, I also find it amazing that after all these years loving you all so so much that I am now able to express on how I feel to you. to interact with you after all this time. The Waltons is my all favorite show over all.
Thank you Judy for all your insights and memories of The Waltons! I loved watching you as Mary Ellen and also Michael as Olivia. Who didn't love Mama Walton? I'm enjoying your chats with us the viewers. Blessings to you!
I did love Michael Learned in her roll as mother. I now am 71 and was raising my family back then. I so admired t he love portrayed in my tv favorite family. I even watched her when she began a new show as the Waltons ended and where she played a nurse. Coincidently. I later went back to school and became a nurse graduating at 39 yrs and with two daughters one in elementary one In middle school. She is a beautiful lady! Thank you Judy and I look forward to more of your behind the scenes.
thank you so much Judy for taking the time to share your memories, its so much nicer to hear these kinds of anecdotes and reminiscences from someone's personal experience rather than watching a third party documentary, Michael has always been one of my favourite actors, its hard to imagine anyone else playing Olivia after having seen Michael embody the character so perfectly and convincingly for so many years.
The thing I absolutely loved about Michael is her expressive face. Even if she didn't have a line to speak you could read her mind by the expression on her face. If she thinks that she was only there to pour coffee and send the kids to bed, I beg to disagree. She was there for those tremendous close ups allowing her to clearly express to the audience what she was thinking without uttering a word. When the show decided that she would be a victim of tuberculosis I was afraid that they were going to kill her character off. I am of an age where I remember people dying of TB. In fact, my own mother had it and she still had the effects of it later in life.
JUDY NORTON I LOVE THE WALTON I HAVE LOVE ALL OF THE WALTON I HAD A SISTER PASS AWAY IN 2018 SHE HAD ALL THE MOVIE OF THE WALTON AND BEFORE SHE PASSED SHE GAVE ME THE MOVIE OF ALL OF THEM I STARTED WATCHING THE WALTON AND CAN'T PUT THEM DOWN THANKS TO MY SISTER DEBORAH I MISS HER TO DAY BUT I WATCHED THEM ALL DAY
Elaine Stoffer Elaine I’m so sorry about your sister,,,I buried my 42 year old niece yesterday,,,I’m dying inside,, Ive loved the WALTONS from 1972 I watch them everyday all day I have dvd and all recorded on my dish,,, I feel in a safe place when then sounds of the Waltons are in my house it comforts me,I’m watching THE PONY CART now,,, sometimes I watch certain ones every single day ,,,,,I’m 65 👵🏻,,,,I shut the world out and watch THE WALTONS ,,😊,,,,I hope you have a lovely day ❤️
My mother was pretty opposite of the mother Olivia but I liked the softness & love she brought. Michael Learned was perfect for playing Olivia. Really brought her to life in a way no one else could have.
Thankyou Judy for sharing these wonderful Walton memories. My favorite one was when Grandma and Olivia were snapping beans and the bowl tipped over and Grandma wanted to be needed and was having a hard time to convey her feelings to the family because of her stroke. Olivia realized her problem right away. .
@@judynorton2598 please never, you mind.. Personally I think "The waltons" are the best of American family show.kind of "Beatles "of best American nostalgic shows.. And you, yourself ms,Norton without your subtle talent show wouldn't have be the same.i think without your devotion dedication and Devine wisdom of acting show wouldn't be the same. Course I love everybody from walton,s mountains..😊
I agree that the relationship between the characters of John and Olivia is truly beautiful! The key, I think, is the genuine respect they have for each other and their commitment to one another.
I loved the Waltons as a kid and still enjoy it as an adult. It was one of the best shows of all time. The cast were all phenomenal. I have seen each episode at least a 100 times. When I watch it's like seeing it for the first time. Love it and always will.
One of the most beautiful moments that I remember from this show was from the episode where the actress was staying with the family, and near the end she put on a little play for the neighbors and read a short excerpt from one of John Boy's writings. The way that she read it, along with the words, and the reaction from the crowd that was gathered there, as well as John Boy's reaction, was so beautiful that it puts a lump in my throat and my eyes well-up with tears every time I watch it. The Waltons was a treasure that we were all privileged to know. Good stuff!
I think you are very pretty today to Mary Ellen, it's great that you are doing these videos, I've never commented with a Star ⭐, and have them reply you are a genuinely sweet person.
Thanks Judy... I really admire the actors in this series "The Waltons" the way you all respected each other and shared your thoughts and concerns about the others. I would want h the stories over and over again.. Thank you again for sharing your time and talents with us.
I've heard/read that "life" on set was not always what we saw - but the acting, the characters, dialogue, facial expressions, voice inflections, etc. were excellent. We could see and hear the love, support, frustrations, etc of living in a big family. It soothed away many things....
Judy, you were one of my favorite characters on the series. After Richard left the series, I looked to you as the role model for the rest of the sidlings. I loved your character. How much of that stubborn Mary Ellen was the real J.N.T.?
I grew up watching the Waltons, I'm old school and enjoyed the series immensely. I had a childhood crush on Judy Norton (Mary Ellen) as did many young boys. I must say you look very nice to me now I'm 56 and single. LoL God Bless you Always Judy! 🙂
I grew up watching the waltons and i gotta say i think all of you were perfect for your roles. I would be pulled in and felt like it was real. A big thank you to everyone of you.
I loved watching Miss Michael Learned as Olivia Walton. My favorite episode was the Easter Story. It broke my heart to see Olivia stricken with Polio but then warmed my heart to see how the family supported and loved her. Great acting and Great actors. All the cast was great!
It was a fantastic program and a unique event in American entertainment and culture. I watched it as a child and teenager, and my parents could directly relate to much that you all portrayed. Many thanks for sharing.
She was made for the show as all the actors!! What a GOD blessing to be a part of it!! brought me so much joy,I still watch,I love it!!It was a miracle!! Wish there were shows like it!!
Thank you for these videos. The Waltons are one of my favorite shows. I'm still watching the episodes to this day. So much we can learn from those difficult days back then.
Love her as Olivia! She was perfect for the role. The Waltons had the best cast! Thanks for these videos. Love getting to learn more about one of the best shows ever!
Thank you so much for taking the time and sharing with everyone . They don't make them like that anymore. Truly a wholesome show ! Enjoy the reruns on the hallmark channel !
She was such a great actor and brought such gravitas and authenticity to the role. It must have been hard as a mother to live up to the character she created. Loved the show. She was such a big part of why I did.
IIRC Patricia Neal had a stroke after the homecoming and the role was recast with Michael Learned. There were other roles that were recast as well. Andrew Duggan played John Walton in "The Homecoming." Edger Bergen, Candice Bergen's father, played the grandfather and both of those roles were recast for the series. Michael Learned was born in 1939 and Richard Thomas was born in 1951, so, she would have been 12 when her first child was born. She played that role brilliantly! I watched that show every Thursday night the whole time it was on. Great video!
@@brookehanley3659 Now that you mention that, I think you are right. Richard Thomas was interviewed recently and he said because of her stroke it was doubtful she could continue after the homecoming. So, the stroke would have had to have happened BEFORE not after. Yes, she did have a tough road after that. Even during the homecoming she didn't sound right. I think she was in a movie with Paul Newman in 1963 (Hud?) and she sounded far different.
Judy these behind the scenes videos you have been doing are fantastic. It is so fascinating to get a glimpse of what the people who played the Waltons are really like. I have loved the Waltons for a long time and I have to confess I do not have one favorite character, I have two and they happen to be Olivia and Mary Ellen. I like Olivia because to me she seems wise beyond her years and like you said she cares deeply about others as well as her family. Olivia also reminds me of a few people who were our neighbors at my families summer home up in the mountains of Western Maryland at Deep Creek Lake. A lot of our neighbors up there were people who had a house in town and a little cottage on the lake for the summer. Olivia reminds me of 3 of the women that were close to my family for years and like Olivia they had a huge heart and were always willing to lend a helping hand with a smile. I like the character of Mary Ellen because she reminds me of my older sister Kathleen who, like Mary Ellen, was a tomboy when she was young and then she grew up to be a wife and mother and where Mary Ellen was a great nurse and doctor Kathleen became a very good business woman and works hard at Hershey in Hershey PA. I also like the energy you brought to the character of Mary Ellen, whether she was sad, angry, happy or even bored I always got a sense that Mary Ellen was always raring to go and was always wishing she could experience the new and wonderful things that she was sure were waiting for her just around the corner. I have to say I honestly believe that no but you could have given the character of Mary Ellen so much spirit and energy. I also believe that no one could have played Olivia better than Michael Learned. Don't get me wrong Patricia Neal did a fantastic job in the Homecoming but I think Patricia's version of Olivia would not have played as well off of Ralph Waite's John as Michael's Olivia did. I think Michael's portrayal of Olivia was a little bit softer then Patricia's which went better with Ralph Waite's portrayal of John. I have always seen John Walton as a quiet loving family man who will go to the ends of the earth where his family is concerned and I think Michaels portrayal of Olivia connects so well with Ralph's portrayal of John, kind of like the way the right two pieces of a Jigsaw puzzle fit together so well. Please keep these video's coming Judy. I look forward to seeing them and check your page every day or so to see what you have added that I have not seen yet.
Thank you so much for your kind, heartfelt comments. I really appreciate your thoughts. Playing Mary Ellen was a rare gift as an actor and I aspired to make her full of life and totally believable.
Hi, I’m 55 years old now and grew up watching the Walton’s every Thursday night my family would gather around the tv and watch I didn’t realize then what an impression the show had made on my life! I still watch it today it does my heart good to see a show that still allows the characters to pray before a meal and worship God. I always thought that John had a great set of values and even to this day I often ask myself what would John Walton do. Thank you for a great show and the memories! P.S. I always thought Mary Ellen was beautiful.
These behind the scenes with Judy are so informative and interesting. The Waltons live on with behind the scenes with Judy Norton and the reruns currently on many cable channels like METV, Hallmark Drama and channel INSP. Everyone would like a family similar to the Waltons with their ups and their downs but most of all their togetherness.
Loved the show . Grew up with it . They picked all of you , perfectly , for your roles . Micheal was definitely "America's Mom ". Thank you all for many hours of entertainment
So many to choose from but the moment between she and Jim Bob when he found out his twin didn't survive was so poignant. My favorite comical moment was when she was learning to drive and Grandma told the children to run ...
That was a beautiful moment....it seemed to strengthen the bond between jim-bob and mama through out the rest of the series. But the one that ALWAYS gets me 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 is the episodes revolving around Pearl Harbour
Growing up my family always watched the Waltons. I think we watched mostly because we grew up in the hills of North Georgia and we identified with the show. I'm now 57 and I still watch it at 12:00 P.M. every week day. My wife and get emotional almost every episode. Growing up my two favorites were Merryelen and Eren. I'm glad the show is now being shown in our area.
Judy I am so loving your wonderful tales of the show. The Waltons are who we grew up with and watching and listening to your wonderful memories and insight is so refreshing. You are a beautiful caring women we are all blessed to know
I'm 53 years old. My dad grew up in the era of The Waltons in the hills of Western MD. We would watch the show and he would point out the similarities to his life growing up. It's still today our favorite series. Can't tell you how many times we've watched through it! Loved all the characters and named my now 24 year old daughter Olivia after Olivia Walton 😊
There are so many it is hard to pick a favourite, when Ellen Corby came back after stroke, Olivia was so tender towards her. Her ability to listen to her family and friends seemed genuine. We miss you all. Thank you, Judy, for your reflections
The quilting was a good one. Felt sorry for GW in that one. I've always wanted to see him and Mary-Ellen get married. Too bad he had to be the first to die in the war, and also he fell in love with Erin. There must be some truth to the real life story because that seemed kinda odd. Mr Hamner must've thrown that in as a historical point that really happened. I like those little tidbits
I have always been on Mary Ellen's side on this issue! I would have been the same way! No way are you putting me up for Marriage and house duty!😄 I totally understood where MaryEllen was coming from. BUT John boy had the perfect argument to change her mind. 😏🤔
@@lisabaker9036 Yes, John boy had a great argument for her to go along with the quilting and that's what made the show special. They had the perfect responses to tricky situations.
I love hearing the stories of the Walton's. It brings back so many memories of my childhood. My mother and I lived with my grandparents and we would watch the walton's together eating ice cream. Thank you for sharing. God bless you. Thank you for the memories.
The episode where Ralph and Michael we’re away at the beach together seemed pretty real!
I thought michael was great as olivia the one episode that I really liked well actually 2 the search and the Christmas one with the english children it really pulled at your heart strings
Great job as always Judy! Looking forward to seeing more.
Every single moment!
Everyone in the 70s wanted Olivia Walton or Caroline Ingalls as their mom! I loved BOTH shows and faithfully watched them.
My mother pretty much resembled both Olivia Walton and Carrolyn Ingalls. The best mother I could ever ask for.

Hello 👋👋👋
John and Olivia's love was so real on camera that I feel they must have had a genuine love for each other in general. As wonderful as the show was for so many reasons, their relationship carried the show.
I totally agree with everything you said. You can’t manufacture chemistry like that ❤️
Michael Learned had admitted that they actually fell in love with each other but because Ralph was married they didn’t take it further. Not sure why Judy Norton didn’t mention this.

I agree - they were so great together.
One of my favorite episodes.
I like both those stories and the one where she did get pregnant and lost the baby. Her and John said they were looking forward to alittle Joy in there life.
One of my faves!
She and John Waite shined together. More than even Pa and MA Ingalls who I always saw no chemistry between.
The score still plays in my mind and still see all of your perfect faces and personalities
I always like when John called her "Livvy." It seemed that was his pet name for her. Olivia is a beautiful name but Livvy would be cute for a little girl. BTW, I know 2 women in their early 50's now that grew up watching the Walton's and named their daughters Olivia.
@@melvawages7143 Hello 👋👋👋
Michael Learned was the perfect choice to play Olivia Walton. The episodes where she contracted polio and tuberculosis were two examples of her gift as an actress.
I find myself watching the Waltons more with every thing going on .simpler time with good family values.good memories growing up watching the Waltons.wishing the country had more families like that
Me to I understand.
They were special.
I think all of the people who were on the show portrayed a totally unreal equation. You can get tired of it easily!!!
I appreciated their realism as a married couple. He was naughty vocally too with some subtle sexual undertones. Lol
Thank you so much for your very kind comments.
Judy, thank you so much for taking time to do these. Love the show and all the actors and actress that was on it.
Yes Thank you for taking the time to reach out to fans of one of the world's most iconic shows I watch them to this day! The cast was just amazing right down to the dog Reckless! Still in Love with The Waltons! ❤
Yes, the whole series had unbelievable talent
@@michaelgmoore5708 Yes they were hand picked by God!
I can't believe I just discovered these. I thank you for taking the time.
Welcome! So glad you are enjoying these.
Patrica Neal was amazing, but I can’t imagine anyone else playing Olivia in the series. She was “Mama.” And “Liv.”
On another note, I always found it funny when, on the episodes, when Olivia or John couldn’t sleep, Olivia would always say, “I’ll make some coffee.”
People on TV always say that. I cannot get to sleep tonight, but I'm pretty sure having a cup of coffee wouldn't help!
And it wouldn’t be decaf! 😀
I love that! Wow - raising your own 9 children, that had to keep you busy!
@@judynorton2598 it sure did, I can't believe I did it 🙂 I can't believe I gave birth to that many either. I loved every day of being a mommy. Now I'm loving my grandchildren so much too! God bless you Judy!
Karen Russo here - LOVED this
What amazes me, is the chemistry among the cast. It is what made the show a success. Of course the writing was absolutely wonderful, which also helped.
I think you are right on that.
Always loved The Waltons....My mother passed away in 1977 when I was 12, and she looked so much like my Mom, it was comforting to see her on screen.
That is so sweet.
Judy you just helped me realize why I haved loved The Waltons so much. I always wanted real life to be like the Walton family. Thanks again!
I loved the grandparents and their interaction with Olivia - everything about the show including the goodnight scenes were so wonderful. As a child, I longed for this kind of ideal family - I didn't resent it though. Great show and great actors.
My favorite show growing up. I'm 54 now and still love this show. Thank you so much for taking us down memory lane...
Glad you enjoyed it
I loved growing up with the waltons.
I enjoyed the wholesome atmosphere and how everybody really loved each other, it's all about the love.
I really enjoyed the show. The wisdom of Zeb, the sternest of Ester, the determination of John Boy and the loving kindness of Olivia and John. The rest of the family all did such a good job. I wish my family cared when I accomplished something but they were all to preoccupied in it’s all about me world.
Thank you. So glad you enjoyed the show.
Thanks for sharing the show with another generation!
Lovely series, gentle and moving - if only we could go back to those times. Thank you all the way from Derbyshire, England.
Thank you so much.
Where have all the kind and loving tv families gone? I do miss the tv shows that depicted caring families rather than the mean spirited ones we see today. The Waltons was a favorite.
So happy to hear that
I am still laughing about the phone call between Michael and Michael.
Love these moments of my favorite TV family from my childhood.
Aussie here. What a beautiful tribute you have shown Judy Norton. Many fond memories of The Waltons
what a joyful video Judy- thank you for sharing. If we could just get more people to watch The Waltons and live simpler, kinder lives, our country would be more united and loving. The Waltons series is my goto happy place when I need to de-stress and feel comfort.
So true. Thanks for watching.
Hello Hilary👋👋👋
I love the double episodes when Olivia contracted poliomyelitis. She acted it so perfectly. And to watch the way John and grandma took care of her and John boy getting the professor involved. It yanks at my heart and I always cry with sadness and then cry with joy.
Such a beautiful episode.
Hello Ann👋👋👋
Thank you for all the loving memories you have given us❤️ I watch 2 episodes of The Walton’s every day & it eases my soul
The chemistry between Michael and Ralph was terrific. A perfect match. I liked the fact that they wrote some excellent scripts for her such as: learning to drive, her brush with polio, menopause, and being a substitute teacher while Mrs. Ford wick was away. Great stories.
So true.
There are many things that made the show one of the best ever. The chemistry between Ralph and Michael really was unique. I felt the same way about Will Geer and Ellen Corby. Of course, the talent of these 4 actors was unique as well. Thanks for another good video Judy! 💖
We were so fortunate to have such brilliant actors lead the show.
One of the things I liked about John and Olivia is that they always were affectionate with each other. Little moments of stolen kisses and hugs were comforting to watch. You don’t see that type of love now days.
They had such a great on camera relationship as John and Olivia.

Michael did a great job as Olivia. I loved the warmth and understanding she had with her children.
My pleasure. Thanks.
thank you so much Judy for taking the time to share your memories, its so much nicer to hear these kinds of anecdotes and reminiscences from someone's personal experience rather than watching a third party documentary, Michael has always been one of my favourite actors, its hard to imagine anyone else playing Olivia after having seen Michael embody the character so perfectly and convincingly for so many years.
I couldn’t agree more - Michael was always mesmerizing on screen.

My mother was pretty opposite of the mother Olivia but I liked the softness & love she brought. Michael Learned was perfect for playing Olivia. Really brought her to life in a way no one else could have.
Yes, she was perfect as Olivia.

Judy-Thank you for giving us your insight for this wonderful show. I grew up watching this back in the 70’s. Keep the videos coming.
Will do!
I agree that the relationship between the characters of John and Olivia is truly beautiful! The key, I think, is the genuine respect they have for each other and their commitment to one another.
Thank you for this. She made a great Mum.
That was really funny about the bloke who had Michelle as his name.😀
I loved how she had such a special relationship with John Boy. Very real. I also loved how she was such a patient and contented mother.
Yes she did.
I loved the Waltons as a kid and still enjoy it as an adult. It was one of the best shows of all time. The cast were all phenomenal. I have seen each episode at least a 100 times. When I watch it's like seeing it for the first time. Love it and always will.
Thank you!
Good stuff!
Great moment.

So glad you enjoyed it.
Judy, you were one of my favorite characters on the series. After Richard left the series, I looked to you as the role model for the rest of the sidlings. I loved your character. How much of that stubborn Mary Ellen was the real J.N.T.?
Ha ha... probably quite a bit. I'm often a better leader than follower :) I used to always want my own way, but recognize the value of compromise now.
Yup, Mary Ellen was a fave and so beautiful always!
Olivia , John and Mary Ellen were always my favorite characters!
I grew up watching the Waltons, I'm old school and enjoyed the series immensely. I had a childhood crush on Judy Norton (Mary Ellen) as did many young boys. I must say you look very nice to me now I'm 56 and single. LoL

I so agree!
The Homecoming was always a Christmas favorite in our house when I was growing up
I believe the stroke was before in the sixties. around 1965. She had a tough road after that.
Thank you Judy Norton for your insights and keeping the Walton's alive for all of us!
Great tribute to her Judy. I remember when the show started when I was young, I was confused by her name as well.

Wonderful choices.
That was a beautiful moment....it seemed to strengthen the bond between jim-bob and mama through out the rest of the series. But the one that ALWAYS gets me 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 is the episodes revolving around Pearl Harbour
I have seasons 1-4. Just watched that episode! The Romance. That was hilarious!!

Wow. Thank you.
I love that. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Judy! We appreciate you giving us these insights into the people behind the characters! You are so loved!
There are so many it is hard to pick a favourite, when Ellen Corby came back after stroke, Olivia was so tender towards her. Her ability to listen to her family and friends seemed genuine. We miss you all. Thank you, Judy, for your reflections
Some of the most beautiful chemistry between Olivia & Mary Ellen was in “The Minstrel” & “The Quilting”.
