I've been waiting for videos with the AIM-260 ever since you had the F-15 get curb stomped by the Su-57 and it was clear that the influence of the standoff capability granted by hypersonic missiles vs AMRAAMs overshadowed any difference made by the stealth and radar. Glad to see the AIM-260 making an appearance and hoping for more of it in the future.
It's a little disconcerting the way that one missile fell off your Tomcat and then fired the rocket behind your aircraft and took off to a higher altitude. For a minute I thought you were going to shoot yourself down.
I saw that, too. But the rest came off the rail woobly and way low. I wonder if it's oriented from the launch platform. The F-14 was in a nose down position when he shot the one you're speaking of. @6:16
I don't actually know for missiles, but surely they don't arm themselves for a few seconds for that reason. I know that grenades fired from launchers won't arm for 60 feet, which the grenade measures based off of the rifling of the barrel. Explosions should always be an "over there" sort of thing.
I love the detail at 12:12. Jester is slightly hunched over (as evidenced by his head being forward of the ejection handles) scoping, the lunar features and the clarity of the livery. Super nice angle GS.
Interesting missile, I hadn't even heard of it. I wonder how accurate its behavior is, every single one went nose down for a split second after launch, whereas AMRAAMS often climb.
I think that initial pitch down is an avoidance maneuver to avoid hitting the plane it launched from, in theory, again we don't know what the actual Aim-260 looks like, it shouldn't need to loft as much due to it being potentially hypersonic, again this is all in development / classified so i don't know enough details
It's most likely completely inaccurate. AIM-260 has not had any data released to the public, and is still undergoing testing. Not Confirmed-Not Denied public space speculatory data is all we have.
Watching videos like this, make me think about Tomcat 21 upgrade, F-14 is just a BEAST! I'm still waiting HeatBlur release the F-14D Super Tomcat version.
Funny your timing on this one, calling it Bear Hunt. Bear hunting season just kicked off in the area I live, random coincidence! Great vid as always, keep up the great work.
Fascinating. The scenario I find most interesting is one where one platform provides guidance for another's missiles. I don't know if DCS can model it, however. What I envision is an F-35 or an F-15 hanging out at long range providing guidance for missiles fired at much closer range and/or different axis by F-22, F-35, or ground battery without their own radar keeping their presence otherwise unknown.
An a/b comparison between the aim-120 and aim-260 on an F22 (or even an F35) would be interesting, just to see how much of a difference in lethality it would make.
Ayo bruh? Once again nice vid about the iconic F14 tomcat take downs, actually it's been our pleasure being on your channel for a while now, i and my brother and we've really enjoyed each and every one of your dogfight, and we had a and a little argument on this particular topic and it would be our pleasure to have you show us what a legion of the super tucano planes could do to a couple of a10 warthog, it I'd be nice? Yo GS, Tomcat...Beautiful and Deadly. The modernization scenarios are great. Too bad was cut from inventory while it still had a lot to give. Thanks for taking the time for a weekend upload. Have a pleasant day. Cheers.
That was awesome! While not an F-22, the Tomcat equipped with the right weapon gives a degree of air dominance. It would've definitely been useful to the USN today. Spectacular video. Please, keep 'em coming!
In the late 80's the Navy had decided the F-14D was going to be the fighter of the future. They had to have factored in the maintenance costs in their budget. SecDef Cheney had other ideas. Also, Lockheed's NATF design was also VG. They thought it was worth doing.
I thought it was ironic that all the advantages of long range missiles that GS was talking about, was probably the exact arguments aircraft designers in the late 50s/early 60s used to justify not putting guns on their “new” interceptors.
I guess the difference is that now, the missiles actually seem to be capable in those roles, as opposed to the early Sparrows which had major limitations.
Absolutely loving the scenarios and beautifully shot against the moon. My query is, why do the bandits always never seem to adopt the same strategy as GS in that they must assume that they are being shot at once one of the planes has gone down? It's almost like they fly straight and then when they do take evasive action, they seem to fly back into the flight path of the missile or hardly jink to evade!
"It's going to hit something"...followed by a huge explosion on the Moon and down it comes😝😝 Jokes aside, the AIM-260 supposedly has a range of at least 200km, so you were firing it well within its performance parameters. Apparently, it's been designed to be able to be carried internally in the F22 and F35, so that should make it a very scary weapon. Raytheon's LREW is a larger missile that apparently has an even longer range but can't be carried internally on the F22/35, so they're thinking on sticking it on the F15EX and the B21. How sucky would that be, having a flight of Sukhois being taken out at long range...by a bomber!!!😊😊
this feels a lot more like the aim-152 that the modernized tomcat was intended to carry (as a replacement for the phinex) still wish we had the other upgrades intended for the super tomcat.

I am just curious. How many dropped tanks or jettisoned arms have hit people, houses and cars on the ground? I am sure in training you can't do that over populated areas, but what about in actual combat? And how does a drop tank look after falling from 2 or 3 miles, and how does a car or house hit by one look? I think of this every time I hit the JETT button.

Really cool video man. Just shows that older fighters with newer weapon systems are still ridiculously potent air craft. You could still use the F/14 today, and pilots on the other side would shit themselves. Hope you still have a shit tone in stock. Again great video, and I hope the new AIM 260 lives up to its name. All the west should be making faster and longer range missiles with the new aircraft we have. Imagine stealth with a missile that has twice the range of any adversary. LOL, in 6:16, it looked like it was going to hit the back of the F-14. But I think that the video proves that it's mostly about the missile, and less about the radar.

Depends on many factors but 2 of the most prominent are the design and speed of the prop and whether its a turbine engine or a piston engine. Piston engines are very susceptible to loss of atmospheric pressure and require complex turbo or superchargers to keep the air dense enough for use. Jets are constantly ram fed and half the engine is compressor fans. Prop planes with piston engines have a quite specific optimum altitude where they achieve best speed. Jets operate optimally over a less specific altitude band
@@onasknox9284 yes ... for example WW2 era fighters equipped with supercharged engines around 1943/44 were tuned to perform optimally at 20,000 to 25,000 ft.The ame altitude as allied bomber fleets. One side to intercept, the other to escort. Some ground attack variants were running out of puff at 20,000. Conversely, spitfires at the time could claw their way to 40,000 but they were also helped by the high lift wing. Needless to say they were on the limits of their capabities
The 2-way datalink allowing ANY data source to feed it targeting info…stealth aircraft launches while an AWACS 200+ miles away is tracking/feeding target info, or satellite tracking, or any ground station tracking can feed it info. F-15 missile trucks and stealth aircraft carrying these with the datalink flexibility, range, and Mach 5 speed is going to be crazy
@@Տիգրան-ժ1էand r-37 says goodbye because it couldn’t hit just like what happened in 2022 when a russian fighter aircraft tried to shoot down a british plane with two missiles.
USA needs the tomcat and this modern armament more than ever today... True long-range strategic interceptor! Biggest mistake ever, retiring this master piece, hence could at least build one squadron of specialist modern day F-14 E for example
Stick these on the strike eagle and see the carnage. I wonder why it took so long to even start the development of a long range missile. I can't help but think it's because the American air force overestimated its opponents again. Probably thought that other countries would've caught up in stealth technology and there would be no point since you wouldn't be able to get a lock on the enemy until you were within 30 miles. But they recently realized, with the introduction of the su57 and the j20 that the other 'superpowers' still aren't able to make something with anywhere near the stealth capabilities of the f22.

Could you work some more of those "Bandit/Hostile hiding among commercial aircraft." type missions into the lineup?
Those visuals for your missiles were acting super wonky in this one. lol
Now imagine the AIM 260 on an F35 or 22.
Or on the F15 with its carcinogenic radar

The 2-way datalink allowing ANY data source to feed it targeting info…stealth aircraft launches while an AWACS 200+ miles away is tracking/feeding target info, or satellite tracking, or any ground station tracking can feed it info. F-15 missile trucks and stealth aircraft carrying these with the datalink flexibility, range, and Mach 5 speed is going to be crazy
@@90whateverR-37 says hi
@@Տիգրան-ժ1էand r-37 says goodbye because it couldn’t hit just like what happened in 2022 when a russian fighter aircraft tried to shoot down a british plane with two missiles.
Now this is some true bvr combat
The wind sound is crazy!!
dog fights are fun to watch but I like these better! 😉
