Check out the Store: growling-sidewinder.creator-spring.com/ What do you guys think does the US need the super long range missiles or are they fine with the AMRAAM ?
I definitely think that the US should make a long range missile. If not that then at least buy some meteors but knowing the US. They would prefer to make their own.
Depends on if it wants to continue using 4th gen non-stealth jets. F-22s and F-35s can get close enough to sling AMRAAMs. F-15 EXs? Not so much. My question is what happens in something like an F-35 vs. J-20 fight in which both sides have stealth. Is it all going down to the merge?
Seems like the biggest mistake by the MIG-31s was firing together. Seems like a 10 second delay between each fire would put up a storm of missles keeping the F15 defensive for longer or finding the F15 after believing that the missle threat had passed.
Yeah that's kind of what I've been thinking because if the missile were to know from a further distance that the F-15 is cranking, then it would course correct early increasing the chance that the F-15 doesn't notch it.
Exactly my thought also. in facy shouls probably line up one behind another also. That way they won't be locked all at once. Who was flying the migs in the video though?
The MiG-31 has always been a fascinating plane to me--so big and heavy, so single-minded, and so utterly incapable of dogfighting. It's basically a flying SAM site.
13:23 what a shot! Thank you for including shots like this. Absolutely beautiful! People say MS Flightsim has good graphics. This has got to be seriously close in situations like this! If only they could put things together and put their Geomapping system into DCS. Imagine that live weather and ground in DCS. Dang bro.
I still find it insane that engineers and designers can create massive poles that can propel themselves to 6 times the speed of sound. And be able to withstand almost 60G turns without ripping itself apart.
It's crazy what aircraft (and these missiles really are tiny aircraft) can do when they don't have to worry about a squishy meat-sack inside of them getting pulped by g-forces.
@@bobjones-bt9bh R 37M is not model properly, Especially in DCS because doesn't show the proper performance of the missile of R 37M. While the AIM 152 is totally mystery.

I would really like to see engagement like this with other players. Should coordinate with the boys and see if we can't get a 5v5 of pure insanity going. 👀👀
GS, As always really appreciate the videos. I have recently started playing DCS, and am starting to understand the time/effort that it would take to become as proficient as you are. Keep it up my bro.
Most of us wanted to see an upgraded Phoenix and we did. We see why the meteor was needed, or stealth. M31is still the king of bwr. Old but not obselite.
If I'm, correct, the mig 31 (fox bat) was intended as a Soviet counter to the SR-71. While no missiles (officially) impacted the blackbird, they did a semi decent job of keeping U.S pilots on edge, and (in the event of a missle launch detection), between the mig 31 speed and ceiling combined with their armament, the SR-71 pilots would absolutely punch the throttle because their best advantage was to flat-out, out run the missiles (even at high altitudes with my w drag on high velocity missiles). Again I may be mistaken, but props to the Soviet engineers for putting something that could be called "threatening" together with regards to the blackbird. And doubly so for those pilots that could hammer down an SR-71, few of us will ever know that fear, or gaul.
Yes! Finally those Mig-31s get their comeuppance! Interesting how the Mig-31s can lock you up for a 175nm launch; your radar didn't seem to see them at those ranges.
Biggest mistake the Navy made was chosing to upgrade the Plastic Bug instead of the Mighty Tomcat ... Second biggest mistake was ignoring long range BVR combat and cancelling the -152 project and leaving the Super Bug hamstrung with -120s....
Kind of funny how the F-15 has come "full circle". It started out as "not a pound for air to ground, then improved that with the "Charlie", was modified into a strike fighter with the "Echo", and with the "Echo X-ray" is an air to air missile slinger again!! I'd be curious about a prospect of an export single seat "F-15G" model with the improvements from the eventual F-15F, which is what I'm sure the EX will be called.
We dont even have a confirmed image of the JATM despite it's IOC expected to be 2022. And no, artist's rendering doesnt count as a confirmed image of what it looks like
There is no way that one F-15 could shoot down 4x Mig-31 in one fight. The 4x Mig-31 just won't follow F-15's rhythm. They will not fly shoulder to shoulder, they will fly one after another with a probably 20 miles gap, then they will shoot one by one and keep the F-15 busy.
If they're already going mach 1 and then fire a missile capable of mach 6... Well that's a VERY dangerous thing to go up against BVR even today. Just the sheer energy they have. I guess that's why even today that strategy is valuable.
Same as those 90+ mile launches. I call it "sht your pants" strategy. Panic, because here's something fast and deadly coming your way! Launch. Launch. Launch. Crank! 😂
There's a reason Raytheon is still making air-to-air missiles and Westinghouse got bought by Northrop Gruman. GD only has the F-16 as far as I'm aware.
Can you show us how air dominance is established? Like the importance of owning the skies with superior pilots and aircraft. How would an actual mission play out (both modern or retro). There is just a fascination with fighter jets that makes it interesting.
Thoughts as a casual watcher- I'm disappointed that a radar lock, once lost even briefly, can't be quickly re-acquired and guidance resumed. Especially in fox-1 fights, it makes little sense that a brief gap in tracking wastes a missile. Second, I don't understand why with data links, a wingman or AWACS couldn't guide your missile in for you from a safe distance, allowing the lead to break off and go fully defensive.
All that comm gear would increase the size and weight of the missle. Not to mention significantly increase the cost of something designed to blow up the first time it's used.
Fox 1 missiles can not get lock mid air because their guidance needs to be in synch with the platform radar unless the missile has datalink. With datalink a fox 1 missile can lock on after launch. R-27ER has that but its completely omited in dcs same as datalink for some reason
Awacs guiding missiles to the target is not a thing here because the airplane is an old F15C with no datalink aside from that between the eagle and its missiles

Do a video, where you use both the Aim-54 Phoenix and Aim-152 (Raytheon/Hughes version) and give your opinion on which is better
Taking into consideration missiles like the Chinese PL-15 and the Meteor, the US needs long range missiles.

I’m thinking the MiG-31 was never even really meant to need to defend, it’s just supposed to outrange and outrun it’s opponents
Its an interceptor, meant to shoot down bombers and spy planes and patrol. Using it for a direct fight with an eagle is very suboptimal.
