Yeuppp now imagine how good the A7Siii will be! If the 1DX was cheaper I’d buy it especially the new MK3 but it’s too expensive for what I need especially those CF express cards
You forget the price of glass. When you be the Canon man for 15 years and have some $15k worth of glass, buying a $6r box is less, than buying a $2k camera and some unknown glass.
I bought my a7iii last year and, months later, this is now the best breakdown and comparison I've seen on RUclips (and I've watched them all haha). Thank you for being real about fandom and bias and for being thorough! Love the channel.
Thank you for highlighting the ridiculous online trolling of cameras by fanboys and showing that it's really the skills, using the equipment you have at hand, that matters.
Equipment matters for sure, but not to the extent that a lot of people are arguing online. The problem with fanboys is their excessive focus to find a winner between brands and models with the single purpose to crown a champion. That is something that is a complete waste of time because we all have different priorities. Maybe they are insecure about their choice and want to argue for it to make themselves feel good :)
I would agree/say its people being insecure of knowing their camera brand may not be as good as it can be. But I have to say as a sony fan its also because I've seen a TON of biased reviews from canon biased youtube reviewers who didn't know how to use a sony correctly. Thankfully Parker did an excellent job in not being biased :)!
As a full time film maker member- I can proudly say that the course is SO GOOD. I can also not-so-proudly say that I had no idea which colour profile was which
I’d be careful with that custom profile because it’ll be different with native + GM glass compared to the third party lenses. I’m using an a9 with GM lenses and mostly don’t have to shift colour unless I make a mistake with the WB.

For everyone wondering about the canon color profile for Sony, The Picture profile is still at this time only available to the users who have purchased the FulltimeFilmmaker course. It looks like They decided to keep it in the course and push you towards getting it. However, i highly recommend it. Though it is expensive, every concept gone over is incredible and i've already learned alot. I also will mention i have made their canon picture profile a profile in my camera (PP9) and compared it to EOSHD's pro color 3.0. I must say EOSHD's is much more saturated and not as versatile. When using Parker's profile (adding a bit of magenta to taste like he said), it nailed it. EOSHD in daylight specifically is just like canon colors as well so it is viable to use when i don't have time to grade [however absolutely falls apart on skintones (way too red, crushed whites/blacks) in situations other than daylight]. I choose between both for what my needs are. Like Parker said though, the added magenta makes blue's look purple and you would have to correct it in post. Skin tones however again, NAILED it. I can confirm because I also have a Canon and took two pictures/videos to compare. Parker's profile is REALLY CLOSE (Damn near spot on). Which again, makes sense why they would keep it in the paid course. Premium option..
Videos like this are why I love your channel. You give solid reviews and comparison videos without be biased. Like we all know how much you love Canon and are very committed to them but you don’t let that take away from other great things camera companies do.
@@brettgaramella so with video I've either shot slog2 or no profile at all. My experience is pretty similar to Parker's honestly... I love the dynamic range the files give me in slog2, destroys the Canon. Also I really enjoy the smaller file sizes. I can store and film 4 times more with my Sony than on my 1dxii, the canons files are STUPID huge. BUT, it does take a significantly longer time in post to get the colors I want, in slog2 and without any profile. I'm hoping Parker shows us his custom profile cuz I'd love to use that so I don't have to correct as much in post. I haven't ever been one who pushes saturation too much or weird colors, so I haven't experienced any clips falling apart when color correcting, but I trust Parker when he says the sonys falls apart before canons. Overall, it's nice dealing with the files. My PC running premiere pro runs them without any issue and I can play back 4k clips without pausing or dropped frames. So overall a good experience. The smaller file sizes is a huge pro for me

i have a Canon 5d mark 4 and i love it for photography, definitely need to learn all it has to offer before i would upgrade but i don't think i could fully switch from Canon.
If you do decide to upgrade, you might want to take a look at the Canon R5 or R6. Plus, there's an adapter for EF lenses with full autofocus capabilities, so you can keep using your Canon EF mount glass without any compromises.
This is only the second video of yours I'm watching, and I am quickly gaining respect for your knowledge and honesty. That said, I've not commented on a couple of things so far, but had to choke at about 11:00. There are a lot of ways to criticize Sony's menu complexity, but to give the 1Dx Mkii a point because it has a beginner friendly menu system is just wrong. Just bought the Sony a6400, very happy. I chose mirrorless Sony Bc of smaller size and I make RUclips videos and like the built in flip screen. I know tons of haters out there on the a6400, but I’m not a camera nerd, it tics the boxes I need. Great review Parker, FTF student here, i love the FTF course and Facebook group, top notch!!
@@fulltimefilmmaker you are definitely right with 8bit but do not forget 2 things: 1 - long before the A7 series ppl were already shooting with 8bit cameras and log. ok they were (mostly) professional camcorders and with 422 not 420. 2 - boosting the saturation towards to the hell is not the appropriate workflow. I must say I do not know the technical details though... but using Aces or Color mapping (transformation) from log to rec709 is the standard way AFAIR... but it definitely looks better. please correct me if I'm wrong. great and honest comparison though, I like it and I am waiting for your Sony color settings :)
Been canon since the eos 650 film camera & used a number of them including the lenses. Seen strange miss offs on the way. The 1s are good but not brill and cannot be personalised enough. But no intention to switch. My personal dislike is I could use the wb button for a metering mode change button far more important
Great comparison. Owned both, now have Sony A7III and A9. I never understood why Canon did not include CLOG with the 1DXM2 considering they put it on the 5DM4. In my testing of both cameras, I found the Canon 1DXM2 to not have the same dynamic range as the A7III with SLOG2 and highlight roll-off was also better on the A7III. Also shooting long-length footage filled up even my 256GB CFast cards in a hurry. Sold my 1DXM2 9 months ago and have never missed it.
Until you look at the prices of the lenses. I priced out the a7iii with Sony equivalent glass to my 1dx mk ii set up and the canon gear only totaled $300 more. I understand if you just have a 1-4 lenses but after that it starts to equal out. I have 6 lenses, one more and the a7iii would end up costing the same if not more.
@@HadiKnowledges you use the L Lenses on your a7s? I just got the a7III, a couple of Sony lenses, and I have the MC-11 adapter on the way for my L glass : )
@@WilliamGrayAllen there is a reason for the higher price. I'd never put a L lens on a 7rIII, because they just can't compete with the resolution of the GM's And don't even try to justify... I had them all 🤣🙄
I doubt the GM lenses have better resolution, but the a7riii def has over twice the megapixels of my canon so I can see increased resolution there. I just switched to Sony and bought a couple of g masters so I’ll see what’s up. I do love the new Sony system tho and money isn’t an issue so it’s whatever haha
At the end of the day its not about gear it’s about you how creative and smart you are cuz there are people who takes better videos and pictures with their smart phone only Gear is the 2nd thing 1st is you yourself and that is what Parker said in the end ✌🏻😄
60fps 4k? For that money you can easily buy a professional camcorder with much better colors and everything you need. And the crop factor is a deal breaker
Bojan Glamocak ok but you really can’t compare this camera to a camcorder, and also I said photography is a big plus. With the canon colors , smooth slow motion it is really good but yeah it is a bit pricey. But still better than gh5 4k60 in my opinion
@@JackLister yeah but the 1dxII has nothing what the 7III has (beside the crop 4K60p) You could easily find a pro camcorder for that amount of money. Canons colors aren't accurate
Great comparison - I love your conclusion - stop reading reviews and crunching specs and get out and SHOOT! Good reminder to me - don't dwell on what you lack - every camera has it's pros and cons
@@NicolasWaldvogel LOL. I use the GH5 and GH5S and they are years better than both of these cameras in the areas u just described. Codec: The GH5 has the best codec by far out of all these cameras. Shoots 10-bit as well. Color science: Canon takes this one but the GH5 is 10x better than Sony's color science. Sensor Size: Sensor size is all about situation. Smaller sensors are great for video because not everything gets thrown completely out of focus and ruins the image. Full frame is obviously better for low light (sometimes) and will be better for photos, but micro four thirds is my preference for video by far (also you can buy speedboosters.) Dynamic range: the GH5 gets 12-13 stops of dynamic range with V-Log and it shoots in 10-bit which can actually handle LOG unlike Sony whose LOG falls completely apart when you push it even a little bit too far. The 1Dx doesn't even have log, that's why Canon footage looks so much more like video than film, because the Dynamic range ain't there. The GH5/S is 100% the best video oriented camera at it's price point other than the BMPCC4K. One of the main reasons being because Panasonic actually focused mainly on video with this camera, whereas the A7iii and 1Dx are kind of more like hybrids. Regardless, don't talk about the GH5 unless you know what it's capable of lol. Just because it "dOeSnT hAvE gOoD aUtOfOcUs" doesn't mean it's a bad camera. It's actually the best for video out of all 3.

So 5 bodies each is too much?? Should I return some of these? I’m just worried I’m gonna need backups for the backups I bought as backups for my backup’s backup.
janisBFF Nah homie, 5 is definitely not enough. I’m using 6 of each nowadays. Backup for the backup’s backup which I bought for backup for the other backup I bought for backup.
Got a 1dx mark ii in 2024. Adding to my 1DCs. The build quality is unmatched. The only “tank” equivalent- 1DC and Olympus Em1-x. But I micro scratched the liquid cristal screen 🤦♂️. I had no idea it is so vulnerable. Now it’s protected but I have to acknowledge 1DC has a sturdier LCD.
What about the auto focus in 120P, its worthless in the A7III and really good on the Canon 1DX2, even that can make a huge difference on creating videos.
It really depends on why you want in and what you’re doing. If your entire career is based off of 120P shots then canon is more suited to you, but that tends not to be the case
For the record my A7iii overheats in about 10 minutes of 4k constant filming. Happened to me twice 4k at 24p in a 68 degree room. I found opening the battery door and having the lcd away from the camera body and it seems to hold up longer and keep the camera much cooler. Hope this helps. 👍🏼

Thanks bro. My Dad was the chief engineer for a well known studio in Chicago...when HD took over He insisted on Sony bodies and Canon glass. Don't know if that combo can work here but when using Canon/Canon or Sony/Sony combo more had to be done in post Thanks again

Perfect way to start of the week. Have to say, those Sony colors came really close to the canon colors and I got fooled by the comparison. Ouch. Great comparison and yo really nailed it. BOOM Thanks!
Thanks for the comparison. I've already settled into my own camera system, so this video doesnt help me SPECIFICALLY, but I love how unbiased your videos are. As you mentioned in your video, Sony "won" but you still won't be switching. That's admirable! FWIW, Canon definitely was noisier in the high ISO test, but Sony looked like it has some in-camera denoising going on. The skin looked a little plastic. So I definitely can appreciate your decision to stick with Canon (even though THAT wasn't the reason why)
Its so important to really know your equipment. It’s like not really knowing how to play the guitar, and then buying a $5,000.00 guitar and thinking it will make you sound better. Ain’t gonna happen.
very good video. As someone who uses both cannon and sony I have to agree with everything you said. they both have their strenghts, it all depends what you are intending to use them for.
I switched from canon and have been using the a7riii with vintage pentax glass and its been fantastic for my workflow I am often shooting in super dark environments (ISO6400 F1.4 1/50) or higher so that was 1 of the biggest things for me and haveing an EVF instead of an OVF was a massive help as well
Great video man, just thought I mention that Gmaster Lenses are very good and worth mentioning. I personally like the build quality and feel of Sony lens.
We’ve been using two A7iii cameras. Switched from Canon. Love the small footprint, ibis and battery life! 1 battery lasts me a whole wedding lol. I also handhold the camera quite a bit. Tip, turn off IBIS on the a7iii if you use a gimbal! It will stutter.
IBIS is great only if you use it for slow shutter speed and only on a static subject. Any thing that moves it is pointless. 1/60 second and subject moving with ibis is still going to be blurred. you cannot get better than a Gimbal for video and a tripod for stills. over hype put on IBIS
I recently switched from Canon to the A7iii and have been quite happy - for the most part. I do miss Canon's dual pixel AF as it is quicker to focus, easier to use (tap to focus/follow focus), and more natural looking when it is hunting for focus. Also Sony's UI is quite confusing coming from Canon, but nice to have so many options. I've never had any issues with color science either - photography and video the A7iii looks great. I stand by my decision to switch, but Sony still has a lot of work to do like you said in your video. Like you said, they're tools... At the end of the day you use the tool that works best for you and what you do.
A9 is more accurate with price comparison and capabilities. Also their best pro body. So that was a little weird but other than that, it is a great video. 5D or EOS R are closer to A7 III.
Dymond Piper no one gets the a9 for video features specifically- it’s the a7iii but worse because no picture profiles. with canon there isn’t really any other option for pro video (full frame 4k, 120fps) other than 1dxii so you have to spend the $6k
@@tayloralexander4332 very true. There is no exact competition but, price wise and for sports shooting, I think maybe this would be better. But you're absolutely right about the video
The GH5 is really good for planned shots where you dont need autofocus, and in good light, especially handheld bc the stabilization is great. It becomes really noisy in low light and the af is not really usable for weddings or anything unpredictable.

Why would you say Sony is the right choice? Just curious. Because if Canon can fix that crop issue and dynamic range it would be perfect
I love your statement where you choose skills over specs and features. Learn to use your equipment to its full potential. I love it!!!
Your work justifies your purchase not what you own. Cheers!
If you're a beginner buying that camera, daddy's paying for it and he's doing more harm than good. Totally agree with the tilt screen comments! I've subscribed in spite of your hat :) Great job!
FORGET THE CAMERAS... talk to me about those background lights!
He talks about them ⬇️here⬇️ at 4:31

I learned way more than which camera to buy. You're amazing man. Subscribed!
I recently bought a A7iii for mostly photography and its bloody incredible. I moved from the Canon 5dmark3 and I'm so glad I did.
Blast The Beat TV I also switched from 5d Mark iii to A7rii and I love it
we're on same boat here mate

Megavision Imagen if you can afford the A7riii then Get that if not the A7rii definitely !
Listening to 9:47 after the release of the Canon EOS R5 & R6 is quite funny tbh.
Sony has improved in many of the categories: Color Science, Overheating, Menu System , Autofocus, flip screen, codecs
Hats off for this comparison. Just straight to the point. Keep up the good work man!
thank you for this, its solidified my choice to get the A7 III.
Congrats man just got mine, it's a best
One of the best comparison videos on the internet. I shoot on a 1dx ii and I love it, but I've recommended the A7III and A7RIII to most people that are asking me for advice.
for people who starts with videography sony is realy best choice in due to price.
good report. thank you parker
You should always overexposure the image for 2 stops when shooting slog...Why don't people read user's manual for their cameras?
@@fulltimefilmmaker you are definitely right with 8bit but do not forget 2 things:
1 - long before the A7 series ppl were already shooting with 8bit cameras and log. ok they were (mostly) professional camcorders and with 422 not 420.
Great video, totally agree on the summary. Stop wasting time arguing what brand is the best, start creating instead!
I am with Canon n will stick to it like glue..
Good Statement.. No matter what kind of Camera you got.. learn how to use it.. true on that 100%
Although for some quite extreme demands, one must go look for another option most suitable. But I agree, 95%

Just from the price alone, Sony wins.
@@WilliamGrayAllen iam a7s user and i love L lenses
@@HadiKnowledges you use the L Lenses on your a7s? I just got the a7III, a couple of Sony lenses, and I have the MC-11 adapter on the way for my L glass : )
@@WilliamGrayAllen there is a reason for the higher price.
I'd never put a L lens on a 7rIII, because they just can't compete with the resolution of the GM's
And don't even try to justify...
At the end of the day its not about gear it’s about you how creative and smart you are cuz there are people who takes better videos and pictures with their smart phone only
Gear is the 2nd thing 1st is you yourself and that is what Parker said in the end ✌🏻😄
I love my a7iii. but if i had an option to upgrade to 1dx mark ii i would. Just because of 4k 60fps , also great photography is a plus
You will go to a7s3 and it will be 4K 60fps ;)
@@divoru77 i hope so. And lets hope its affordable and has no crop
@@JackLister yeah but the 1dxII has nothing what the 7III has (beside the crop 4K60p)
You could easily find a pro camcorder for that amount of money.
Canons colors aren't accurate
Great comparison - I love your conclusion - stop reading reviews and crunching specs and get out and SHOOT! Good reminder to me - don't dwell on what you lack - every camera has it's pros and cons
We need the gh5 in this mix! Great video though!
GH5 is amazing for the price but in terms of codec, color science, sensor size and dynamic range, it's not even close mate
bad af
@@WhatAboutTom ok...but why they cant put a good af on this camera? Can you please tell me? i cant believe this!!!!
@@greek-freaks Not really sure, but for people like me, I don't really care haha. I don't need AF.

You'd do great working for one of these major camera companies, but truth be told...I appreciate you more giving your spot-on opinions from the outside, as those who work for the big camera companies are too close to the product to see what the consumer sees. This video confused me. I just bought both.
Good
@S Tra Jokes on you kiddo, big boys get 3 of each. Backup for the backup.
Farid Damasio sorry i think you have been misinformed. Its 4 bodies of each back up for back up for the other back up.
No, It wont.
It really depends on why you want in and what you’re doing. If your entire career is based off of 120P shots then canon is more suited to you, but that tends not to be the case
actually its good in the a7iii as well
the 120p on both cameras is awful anyways
ya, and how often do you use 120?
Great video, you are right - we can't really compare anything but you did a great job explaining the pros and cons of each camera!
Great comparison man. Thanks for the video.
great comparison. can you please do this between Canon and the GH5? thx Parker
That will be FF vs m4/3s... That sums it up?
@@btcbenny21 gh5s would be better
There's no point. The Canon can't shoot 10-bit. The GH5 wins hands down.
You just want someone to point you what camera is better. Just do like he said and pick the camera that "ticks the most boxes"

Thanks bro. My Dad was the chief engineer for a well known studio in Chicago...when HD took over He insisted on Sony bodies and Canon glass. Don't know if that combo can work here but when using Canon/Canon or Sony/Sony combo more had to be done in post Thanks again
wow dude this video is AMAZING you get straight to the point and explain everything thoroughly you have the best explaination on youtube of both these cameras thank you very much for this REALLY appreciate it! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Nice segue into the commercial at the end.
Video start :15:17 don't waste your time to watch full video
And parker you'r great man..
At the end of the day you use the tool that works best for you and what you do.
this guy really knows how to review and compare
Informative! Summarizes the summary! Great work Parker!
Hi Parker Walbeck
Sony a7 iii best picture profiles Settings?
What a completely unbiased review. It’s refreshing
PHENOMENAL comparison. Have been waiting for a match-up between these two cameras for awhile. This clarified I’m sticking with the A7III.
I'd be over the moon with either one of them! :-D
Thanx parker. I am using sony7iii. I am a candid videographer from india. Follow with u.
I'm a Sony guy now but once Canon shooter. What's your thought on the GH5 that so many videographers are using? Good job as always!
bad af
The GH5 is really good for planned shots where you dont need autofocus, and in good light, especially handheld bc the stabilization is great. It becomes really noisy in low light and the af is not really usable for weddings or anything unpredictable.
