Thanks H - a fabulous little trip! Wonderful views with an amazing ridge to walk across and a spectacular spot to pitch the tent!! Loved it, thanks for watching It 🤗
Cheers Kyra - great you were on Diamond Hill! I got lucky with the visibility for this one - it was a super day and what a ridge to walk across!! I was a happy camper that day 😎
I remember needing a second attempt to do this ridge, the first time was so windy one of our group was upended so we did the prudent thing and bailed. What I love about this whole area, including the many adjacent mountain groups is that it's so quiet, compared to where I do my 'regular' hikes, namely Wicklow and the Mournes where you just don't get the solitude. Wonderful video, so glad to have found your channel, and you are showcasing Ireland brilliantly, keep up the good work.
Thanks so much George! I agree with you about the mountains in Mayo & Connemara - like you my regular haunts have been Wicklow and the Mournes and the solitude and wilderness of these ranges in the West satisfy me greatly! I’m glad you got back for a second chance to experience this ridge and what an experience that must have been the first time round too!! I got so lucky with the weather on this one - the visibility just blew me away and of course I made many more plans for future trips from seeing all around me! Thanks for your message, really appreciate it 😊
Thanks Cuz!! It was a truly beautiful experience to catch those views from that ridge and to walk along it. That first shot was probably the best thing I captured all Summer!! Such a thrill to experience and to have this little record to aid my memory 😉 Glad you enjoyed it!!
Thanks very much Joe! 😊 Great to be able to walk these fabulous mountains at last. Such great views in all directions! You’re welcome for the GR - hopefully I got them right 🙃
Thanks Mark! A fantastic ridge line is right and then to have had the visibility that I did on that day…awe inspiring for sure 😊 Great to have been able to capture the ridge - it was the only thing I wanted to capture that day as I wasn’t in the mood for playing with the camera. Definitely a benefit that comes with the camera as some of those awe inspiring moments can be forgotten by me or fade to the distant background. Cheers!!
@@MiriamKennedy A pleasure Miriam. It was a great capture. You know about awe then. Most people outdoors do. Stored away till the end of times now. Lovely.
OMG !!!!! What a beautiful video !!!!! Mayo is glorious in the fine weather ! Really really well done ...... lots of new vistas !! Thank you Thank you for your efforts ....... loved watching this ...... still in lockdown in Sydney !!
Delighted you enjoyed it!! Mayo really is fabulous - I had done so little exploration of Mayo until this Summer and there is still so much more I’d like to see. The views that day really were incredible and gave me ideas of loads of other places I wanted to see as a result!! Take care in Sydney lockdown - just checked what it’s like for you and I see you are having to deal with the dreaded 5km travel limit. Hope things pick up for you all shortly 🤞
Cheers Colum!! Yep - a truly great place to explore! Really good visibility for my time in the Sheeffry’s so it was nice to be able to capture the place a little bit 😊
Thanks a million! I struck gold in having great weather to capture that ridge - I’d seen the ridge in another video and knew I wanted to try fly the drone to see how it might look, I was pleasantly surprised!! It was the highlight of my Summer 🤗
Hi Miriam. Gerry sent me here from his channel :) What a marvellous video, and that ridge walk is one for my list when I can manage to get back again (Irish exile in Scotland, but no complaints about the magnificent hillwalking here on my doorstep, either!). But, well...home is home, and I have had some unforgettable days in the hills of Mayo, Connemara, Sligo and Donegal in recent years.....not to mention the lovely Slieve Blooms in my native Offaly. More modest in height but still lovely in their own pastoral way. That was some spot for a bivvy, and the sunset looked awesome in the extreme. On the Sheeffry Hills...I have The Way That I went by R.L.Praeger, and I seem to recall that he described his walk amongst these hills as a bit nondescript and boggy. I think he must have tackled them on a very, very bad day, is all I can say!
Gerry sent you - well that gave me a good afternoon giggle 🙂 Thanks very much for watching the little video Jim - delighted you enjoyed it! That ridge walk and capture was one of the most memorable things from this Summer for me. Its great to have a little record of it to remind myself of the feeling of being there, without the video it would fade to the background no doubt so a little glimpse of it reminds me how fulfilling these little adventures are and how lucky I am to have found such a satisfying interest in life. You're definitely not short on great hillwalking while in exile but I can imagine the draw of home tugging occasionally too. I haven't visited the Slieve Blooms yet but two different people have posted videos on the Slieve Bloom Way in recent months (that I'm aware of!) Offaly is vying for more attention it seems!! Yes it must have been a dreadful day for the Sheeffry's to be described as nondescript. Thanks for getting in touch!
Cheers Colin! It nearly went in the bin 😮 I liked the opening drone scene but wasn’t too impressed with the rest, didn’t feel it did the place enough justice. Great place to take in the views for sure! Thanks for watching it!! 😉
Thanks very much Martin! I very nearly didn’t post the video as I felt it did a poor job of capturing the amazing sights that I’d witnessed. Nice to hear you liked it and thanks for the encouragement 😊
@@MiriamKennedy honestly Miriam it looks great. I am heading up to that area for a 5 day hiking adventure. Going to tackle a big mountain each day for 5 days. This route has just been added to my list. Thanks for that.
@@soletrail do you use ViewRanger? I used a route posted by Gerry McVeigh for the Sheeffry Hills which starts at Tawnyard Lough - it’s a 24km hike. If you can’t see the route - send me your mobile number or email address and I’ll send it on to you!
Miriam, that has to be the best place to crack and fry an egg in the whole of Ireland😊 An absolutely beautiful capture of you walking along that last ridge to barraclashcame, just gives a great sense of how amazing it is to walk along👍👍 it looked like you had stunning weather and visibility for that fantastic wild camp. I hope you had a bit of a breeze to cool and keep the midges at bay? Getting to see the sunrise/sunset in that area is also special😊 Thank you for sharing😊
Thanks very much Gerry! That shot of the ridge was completely inspired by seeing the clip from your video - the only things I planned to capture were that ridge and the sunset/sunrise. The visibility was fabulous throughout and those three clips are such a limited reflection of the views but enough to remind me how spectacular it was! No midges at all to bother me 👍 The view of Mweelrea from the camp spot was very special alright!! So thank you also for the route - as I used yours 😊
Lovely video Miriam, Inishturk looks quite small from there. I'll have to go there some time. Id say you were surprised earlier 😅 Thank you very much, I couldn't get it out of my head after I had seen it. I have gear related issues 😅
Thanks Jason! I was blessed with incredible views from the Sheeffrys alright! I had a giggle for sure earlier - don’t worry, I understand your gear related issues all too well 😊 I have my own too 🤦♀️
@@MiriamKennedy I have seen a few of your videos now. The Lough Bray loop looks amazing. You do a great job capturing how stunning each area is. I need a drone in my life. My list of 'essential' gear I just have to have would make you cry 😅
I see why it's your favourite ridge. Just beautiful. 🙂👍🏕️
I’ll be looking for more to surpass this one! I might have a new favourite in 2022 - we’ll see 😊 Thanks for watching!
