Just a cooking suggestion, you should have the oil a little higher befor droping the nuggets or use a thermometer while frying.....since both the chicken and the tempura batter were cold, I think the oil temperature might have dropped a bit, and that could be the reason that the batter was not as crispy and brown as expected.... Great video, the nuggets look delicious!!!
For more crispiness, you could try double frying the nuggets. You fry everything, wait a few minutes and fry it again 😉I do it for Korean fried chicken and it does make a difference 😊
That That really helps, thanks! I used to have such old oil at home because it was so much hassle to change it. Since it meant spending more than 10 minutes with my sister to do and I hate the feel of oil. But it meant all the food was darker than expected.
I love Joshua's videos and my kids are obsessed with "b roll." I would love to see you do more of his stuff, sort of an actual home cook vs his professional skills. His entire "but better" and "but cheaper" series would be great!
I wont lie - I'm 23 and still get happy meals. Its a great portion if you just want a little bit of fast food without going crazy!! I get the 6 piece mcnug with fries, apple slices, and of course the sweet and sour dipping sauce!!
You should totally do a sauces/dips video! I too am huge into them and would love to see u either trying famous ones, remaking them, or making you’re own from scratch. I might be the only one interested in this though idk lmao.

@@MartinGiadrosich i wanted to make some hamburger buns he made because it looked like it'd be the best thing I ever ate but I did not have the time to put towards that, or the finances 😂
@@erinjohnson7504 you should definitely make them when you have a little extra time! they are life changing (at least for me :p), they do take some time to make (especially when you don't have the dough attachment thingy like me, then your elbow grease will have to suffice but hey, it might as well count as a workout), but to be honest most of it is just waiting for them to rise. in the end they are so worth it!! my friend's dad thought they came from some fancy bakery and my aunt who almost never eats anything that is not whole grain ate 2 of them. highly recommend!
@@martyna5590 awesome recommendation, thank you. Since we're all adult grounded and vacation this year will consist of sitting at home I'll have to try it then!
Just a tip with your tempura batter- combine your dry ingredients first and then don't over whisk your batter! Some lumps are good and make it more crispy when fried. My Maccas (what we called McDonalds in Australia) order is a hamburger bun, no meat, keep the condiments add extra pickles and onions and a hash brown. Fries and a coke. But our version of Burger King has two different vegan burgers so I try to go there if I have a choice.
I love my meat grinder. I got a high class food processor just so I could have a meat grinder. We make burgers with the medium size, meatballs with the smallest size. Sooooo good! mmmm
I go to MacDonalds once every few years but when I do I have a Big Mac, Large Fries, and Strawberry shake..... mmmmmmm So yummy! A&W Chicken strips are good, that's the one fast food I eat regularly. With their famous rootbeer, yum!
6:09 Whenever I get a Chinese takeaway, I always get honey chilli chicken. It is literally the most amazing thing ever! So I am 100% on board with honey+nugs😂
My favorite nugget dipping sauces from McDonald’s are bbq and sweet and sour together. Honestly life changing. I usually dip in the sweet and sour first and then dip into the bbq and it’s so good.
I always like the videos before I've seen them. Thanks Rach and Chris So fun! Isn't MSG very unhealthy? My Dutch McDonalds order is always: 6 McNuggets with bbq sauce (don't know if it's the same everywhere), a Big mac menu milkshake, Maestro Angus Burger, and sometimes a McChicken or a Big Tasty burger. Pahda pa pa pah.. I'm Lovin' it! haha
When we make nuggets, after you ground the chicken, spread it out flat on a cookie sheet then freeze it. Then when you are ready to fry, you can cut into squares or use a cookie cutter to shape how you want. Makes fun shapes😊
We follow Joshua’s recipe for McNuggets regularly. They are my daughters absolute favorite. Every time I make them I adjust it just a tad and they seem to get better and better. Currently my biggest thing is trying to not let them get soggy from the steam after they cook. I did read somewhere that if you turn the oven on 300° and set them in there that that would help but I’ve not tried it yet. For the perfect bite inconsistency I make them really flat before I bred them and they seem to work out the best
Standard Micky D order: Big Mac with a chocolate shake. I'm with you about dipping the nuggets. However, try putting a little cayenne pepper in the honey and dip it. Oh YEAH! That is sooooo good!
I'm from Italy, I usually have a Happy Meal with McNuggets as a snack at 4/5 pm if I'm near a McDonald's, but my favourite is a McChicken menu for lunch. And I love eating McNuggets on their own, without any sauce, I love them that way. Sometimes I dip them in mayonnaise though.
Adding richer spices like turmeric, saffron or paprika can also add more color to the tempura batter. Or, pull them out when they're done, sprinkle salt and pepper on them, let them cool for 3-4 minutes, raise them temp +25°F (+14°C) and then drop them back in the oil to darken.
I LOVE that you made these and got the idea from JoshuaWeissman. I recently discovered his channel (like, within a month) and have been binging his videos! Everybody loves PAPA 🤣
Also, with new oil the nuggets tend to be a bit lighter in color. Sometimes a darker colored mcnugget can indicate the oil hasn't been changed in a while (or the crew just left the nugs in the vat too long)

Hi Rach (or Schelle) my daughter and I love watching you. You make our Saturdays so fun. My mcd order depends on availability usually, and goes down this list: 1.Prosperity burger 2.Nasi Lemak with spicy mcd fried chicken 3.Grilled chicken burger 4.Fillet o fish
I'm so glad someone else likes honey with their nuggets! Hot Mustard & Sweet and Sour are also favorites. When I eat fast food, which is very rare, my go to orders are either a McDonald's Grilled Chicken Sandwich meal, or a McNugget Meal. Yeah I always wear one nitrile glove for my chicken hand while keeping the other knife hand clean. The thought of getting raw chicken cooties under my nails (even though they are short) absolutely grosses me out!
My favorite fast food place is either chic fila or five guys! And my order from McDonald’s is usually 10 piece chicken nuggs, tropical berry sprite, and fries!
I don’t cook much but I do know that if you were to cook them on a tiny bit lower temperature and just slightly under cook them and then take them out and let them sit for a few seconds and turn your oil heat up just a touch and then fry them again for a couple minutes. Or just add more sugar to the flower mixture. Sugar=golden when cooked
I don't got time to read this 👁️👄👁️ My brain said, "NOPE"
Yeah for sure use a thermometer, very helpful and will absolutely make a difference
@@hotcocogaming419 TL;DR
Cold ingredients make oil colder.
Hot oil cook food faster.
Make stuff golden.
It also leads to a more oily nugget. But yes, great idea. You do want the oil hot before adding in any type of food product.
For more crispiness, you could try double frying the nuggets. You fry everything, wait a few minutes and fry it again 😉I do it for Korean fried chicken and it does make a difference 😊
That’s exactly how they do it in restaurants
And raise the temp slightly on the second frying.
Double fried chicken is so good!
If they reheat well, then you could batch prep and freeze them. That would decrease how much time it takes to have nuggs...like your cookie prep

As someone who has worked at McDonald's, the nugget color depends on how fresh the oil is. The fresher the oil, the lighter the color of the nug.
