This channel really has become my comfort zone since Quarantine one. Have I rewatched multiple videos multiple times? Yes, they make me happy. And now I need to make pancakes
Once the baking soda in the Bisquick is mixed with liquid, it starts to rise. You don't want to let them set too long before frying or they will be extremely flat. Baking powder you can wait longer.
Yes, yes, yes! Exactly what I was worried about. I was thinking, "Poor Bisquick pancakes. They won't be as fluffy because they sat too long." Unfair advantage on the Tasty pancakes' part. 😂
We make up a big batch of the dry ingredients and store in a vacuum sealed container. Then measure out dry (everything is well combined so you do get the right proportions in each batch) and just add the wet ingredients each time. It’s like having homemade box mix but saves a little time.
She said she flips pancakes when the edges get less shiny. But I find you actually get the best colour when you let the whole side get dull! And you get less splatter too
I thought the video's title "BEST EVER PANCAKES BOXED MIX" and you were going to test out different brands and decide which is your favorite Here's an idea for next video 🤣
I love savory pancakes, right before flipping I add sharp cheddar and green onions. Topped with butter, a little maple syrup and sriracha. Sweet, savory, spicy, and delicious.
You should do Japanese soufflé pancakes one day!🥞 Edit: Seems she did one from tasty that ended in calamity. Maybe she could try one from a professional cooking channel (whose recipes are actually meant to be done...)
She was recently mentioned in a video from a channel trying to make the tasty ones and this lady made a new recipe to get a better result. Maybe she should make those ones
I have followed you for a while and recently I had a deadly health scare. Your videos have given me laughter and fun things to try as I slowly return back to health. Thank you so much for this. some people may think being a RUclipsr and such isn't much of a thing, but when you are confined to bed and can't even hold up a book to read, content like yours makes the difference. You don't bash anyone, you aren't mean. Your videos bring joy and I am grateful to you for making these videos. Keep it up.
To help with the process, the measuring cup you used for milk is actually a dry measuring cup. Dry measure and liquid measure are different and do make a difference in flavor when cooking/baking. STILL LOVE THE VIDEO!
Also with pancakes, it's ok to leave some lumps because you definitely do not want to over mix. Yes definitely use a liquid measure cup for liquids and a dry cup for dry ingredients.
I came to the comments to see if anyone else caught that too lol I was like where’s your liquid measuring cup?!? But still love and I use bisquick also! So good
Yes! It really ups your baking game to use wet and dry measuring cups. Though I really wish tasty (and Rachel by proxy) would use weight measurements rather than volume. With pancakes, it doesn't matter much, but baking in general should always be measured out in weight. Things like ambient humidity can affect how heavy your dry ingredients are.
Hey Rachel, love love love your videos, been watching you for soo long.. they just made my weekend everytime.. ♥️♥️♥️ Please i have one request.. please try and make indian dishes, would love to see you taste test indian dishes ♥️♥️
Chris needs a gourmet cooking channel or have a series with you.. He's such a funny food snob but not in a bad way. He is always trying to figure out ingredients to make it better. I love y'all interaction and they way we can "see" both of you thinking at the same time and both having the same thoughts.
I love a good, classic buttermilk pancake but my absolute favorite pancake preparation is probably chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream. It's snowing here today so that's what we're having for dinner tonight - and not gonna lie, I'm totally stoked.
Hey Rachel! I have a video request for you. Could you pls try recreating levain cookies? They're these thick but slightly underbaked cookies in the middle. Thank you!
2 words... compound butter! I made an orange & honey compound butter yesterday & we put some on our pancakes this morning & O M G! Such a simple but delicious thing you can make. If you don't have all the fancy additives for pancakes or are just craving regular pancakes, yummy compound butters like the one I made it perfection! I just adds a little something extra. Highly recommend!
I use Bisquick for my pancakes, but I figured out a few modifications that make them phenomenal. For each batch (supposedly 10-12 pancakes), I add: 1T granulated sugar & 1/2t baking powder to the *sifted* dry mix. I also use (unflavored!) yogurt or sour cream, thinned out to buttermilk consistency instead of regular milk (around 3/4c sour cream/regular yogurt & 1/4c milk or about 1/2c each Greek yogurt & milk per cup of milk called for). You can also just use buttermilk, but I don’t have it on hand 51 weeks a year. The acid in the milk mixture reacts with the baking powder to give lots of lift. My last trick is to cook the pancakes in bacon (or sausage) fat. If you don’t eat pork, I’d still recommend trying the other modifications. They give a lot of textural and flavor improvements. I don’t alter the eggs in any way (no increasing amounts, separating, whipping, etc). I’ve never tried this with GF mix, non-dairy milks or egg substitutes, but if you do, let everyone know. Add to my knowledge and pass it along. Happy pancaking everyone! ❤️
Lots of good tips! Just so you know there is dry buttermilk that you can keep in your pantry. We don't eat yogurt so that would be a separate buy for us. Whatever makes it easier to get pancakes in your mouth😁
I'm from the Netherlands, so we eat something that looks like a crepe. At my home, we put a thin layer of batter in a pan and then we put a bit union, bacon and my parents ad mushrooms as well. As a last minute mix in, we put cheese on it and immediately flip de pancake 😋😋😋
German pancakes are the same. We put all sorts of things on in my house (maple syrup is pretty rare) and they are more lunch/ dinner than breakfast for us
It is always fun when Chris is on. I like how he will not look at the camra. I feel like I am at your house sitting in your kitchen while the two of you are conversing.
Notice how you used the 1/3 cup to pour your pancake batter? I've decided this is why you have so many. Also, letting the batter set is to allow the baking (soda or powder, I forget) to expand and make air bubbles. That's also why you folded the batter instead of whisking. You could add soda or powder to the box batter and it'd make a fluffy difference. The book 'The Food Lab' is really awesome at explaining the chemistry behind cooking. There's a pancake section. There's probably even a cookie section... Just sayin'.
Thank you for bringing some fun youtube content to my life! I've been watching a lot of RUclips to get through recent days bc my newborn had open heart surgery Saturday night unexpectedly. Keep doing what you do! You are awesome! ❤
Looks like its pancakes for dinner tonight! Also, hot take, I absolutely love the chilly pancakes. I will save room to pick the refrigerator pancake out one by one and eat them cold. So good to me.
I always add a splash of extract to my pancakes!. Vanilla, almond, banana and even lemon. With vanilla I use regular syrup... With Almond and banana I add peanut butter melted with chocolate chips on top.... And with lemon extract, I'll top the pancakes with a simple powdered sugar and milk frosting. So tasty!!
I always make extra pancakes on purpose then toast them in the toaster later. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Or you can split it open like a pita pocket, fill it with bananas, pb etc and put it on a panini press. SO YUMMY!!!
The other reason for letting the batter sit is that it gives time for the baking powder/soda to react with the liquids, creating bubbles and a lighter texture 😊. Thanks for making fun, informative, entertaining videos!
I made blueberry bisquick pancakes yesterday with maple bacon. OMG!!! Bisquick is by far a superior box batter. Hands down! I finally found a scratch recipe that is worth the extra work. Most are not. Peanut butter pancakes with chocolate chips are amazing!
I'm Dutch, so our pancakes are a bit different, more crêpe like. But we always put bacon, cheese (and mushrooms) on/in the pancakes. And I also love apple/cinnamon pancakes.
Hi Rachel! Could you please maybe do a video about all the baby items you love and ones you regret buying?? I know you already have such videos but they are few years old and I would love an update! I am 13 weeks pregnant and I adore you and your parenting
My favorite is three of the smaller size pancakes with turkey sausage patties in between and butter and maple syrup drizzled on top. Or, just crumbled up bacon sprinkled in the batter. Also really delicious.
Just made these today and they were So. Very. Good. Here's a few changes I made: I added 1 tsp apple pie spice and the zest of 1 orange to the dry ingredients, added a tsp of vanilla (because ... VANILLA!), and substituted 2 Tbsp of the melted butter with melted coconut oil to the wet ingredients. AH-MAY-ZING!
Top tip from Little Miss Scatterbrain (me) over here: always secure your measuring cup/spoons sets with a platic or metal ring or a carabine (?) hook. Unsalted butter is also a higher quality butter, the salt masks the difference in quality. That’s why posh French butter comes with salt on the top, so you get the lovely salt flavour, but with the best quality butter 😊
I'm from Italy, ten years ago I wanted to try pancakes for the first time, I googled "Pancakes original recipe", I found one that looked good and I've stuck with it since then. It's very similar to the Tasty ones you made, but you have to beat the egg whites before adding them to the batter. I love them becausa they are fluffy and taste amazing!
Yes I know its been a long time since this was uploaded, but in the off chance you see this comment. Pancakes with Fruity Pebbles sprinkled over the pancake just before you flip. Then just eat with butter spread on top.So good.
Will Try the Tasty. But Try applying the same ideas to the box mix. Buttermilk, melted butter and separate the egg. Mix till wet and sit for 10. I also always add in Vanilla.
I imagine the wait time is also for the baking soda/powder to react with the buttermilk (along with letting the flour hydrate, etc). But /shrug. I don't know for sure.
Great video as usual, Rachel!! Re fav pancake add in: Check out the gingerbread variant of Lisa’s sourdough pancakes at Farmhouse on Boone...🤤👌🏻(in her cozy winter menu video)
I would love to see Chris pick out gadgets from Amazon and co. Things he thinks will work or finds interesting 🤗
Yeah an i have a recommendation for who ever reads this try joshua weissman pancakes American style
This would be great!

You and Chris should actually try to do pancake art and have a competition to see who can do it better!! That would be so fun to watch!
You are right that would be soooooo fun to watch. Lol
That's such a good idea!
Yesssssss
Pleaseeee
I am pretty sure that Chris would win with a great margin
I’m always waiting for the “Christopher...” haha love him.
Its Rach's version of Beeeyn from simply nailogical

Best pancakes ever - add lemon zest and fresh blueberries 🫐 🍋 absolutely delicious!!!
Yummy 😋
You should try some Claire Saffitz’s Dessert Person cookbook recipesss
Unfortunately a lot of her recipes have nuts in them 😟
You can do them without nuts ~
I love Claire! This is an excellent idea.
Yes!!
For some of the recipes, yes, you can simply omit the nuts. But many of the recipes would come out completely different than how Claire intended.

Isn't that just flour and sugar? What else do you put in there? Genuinely confused
Jean C baking soda, baking powder, salt. We just add milk, butter and eggs then. It’s one less step - the kids want pancakes a lot in our house 🤷♀️
I do the same, it's so useful! Homemade pancakes mix 🥞

Same! I literally thought tasty had the best box mix😂🤦🏼♀️
I love savory pancakes, right before flipping I add sharp cheddar and green onions. Topped with butter, a little maple syrup and sriracha. Sweet, savory, spicy, and delicious.
That sounds really good. Do you use the same pancake batter or do you make a different one?
I'm also curious, do you use a normal pancake batter recipe, or one with less sugar?
"Do you want to make a pancake?🥞"
*Yes, the answer is always yes.*
You should do Japanese soufflé pancakes one day!🥞

Wait what, there is a difference! Why, it's about the volume right, why would that differ between wet en dry xD Americans... just use grams and ml
@@Elineding There's still a difference between grams and mL because each substance has a different density. Grams measure weight, mL measures volume.
