- In this video I have a look at my father in-laws '13 Steiner 440 Tractor that was a crank, no start with no fuel delivery. However prior to this happening it was a no start, no crank. That was just a bad ground but now it cranks but won't start!
-Enjoy!
Hey, FWIW, I do not know what dealer he took it to, to have it looked at. I know it says Jim's Equipment on the books. Don't be talking bad about Jim's because I honestly have no idea where it went. Either way it works now and that's what matters 👍🏼
Hope people heed your advice. Ray from Rainman Ray's had to tell people to knock it off when he got let go from his job last year.
I have to say, if Eric O. is my son in law there is no way I am having anyone else look at my equipment.......just sayin'.
So what, are you brand: you knew?
Probably the OG seller.
😂that's just common sense not to blame if you're not 600% sure. But that's not the way people...
It's always helpful to have your supervisor sit next to you offering mechanical advice while drinking an adult beverage! lol
I don't trust sober mechanics😂
Awe, man, I wish my wife would come "check on me" more often. I'm like, baby, your Kia could fall off the jack stands you have to check on me once in a while. I will be out there for hours and she will stick her head in and say, "you okay under there." And I'll be like, "Yeah, come hang out for bit I can show you what I found" and she is like, "You've been checked on, I'm gonna get back to this or that..." *sigh*
No pressure, right?
No child around to fetch the beer it seems ...
It helps that the supervisor is kind of cute too.😊
Eric O working and Mrs O with a beer in her hand, could make SMA even more hilarious🤣🤣
Good to see Mrs O had the whole situation under control and on the beverages into the bargain 😂🤣😂🤣❤️
"Do Not Lift Engine by Air Cleaner" - Love to hear the story that led to that warning....
I can only imagine haha
They don’t make’em like they used to!
"Tell me your 70 without telling me" Haven't laughed that hard in a while. I had one of those lights for years!
[Eric holding the trouble light] - "Tell me your over seventy without telling me your over seventy, am I right." Hey - I resemble that remark, sonny! 🤣
So do I. At least you don't have to charge it every 20 min!
Love the name!!!
Me too.😂
@@uhplumber5962They're OK in the Winter. I don't need a 75 watt heat lamp next to my face in Summer. My halogen shop light can dry paint. So there's that feature.
I have three of them. They all came from my father.😂
Mrs. O is such a stunner and she even keeps you company in the garage! That's how you know she loves ya! Lucky guy, Eric.
God love them both ❤ ... They have a wonderful marriage.
found the dude that made the hills on the progress bar 🤣
Everyone needs a good mechanic in the family. Lucky In-Laws. Thanks for sharing.
100%. A good cook is also nice.
And always make sure to get that dinner out of them for your trouble.
Gotta love the wife’s comment, “Did it start twice?” 😂😂
Mine only starts in the morning.
Thanks to Mrs O for the assist. Very supportive wife. 💯
I loved Mrs. O interrogating Mr.O on why he didn't try to start the machine. He was flummoxed by her questioning and realized he didn't complete the diagnostic. Keep it up Mrs.O!
The best mechanic in the state being supervised by the best supervisor in the state! 😂
My dad spent an hour or more trying to figure out why his snowblower would start & run on Cosby juice, but die when you took the spray away. Gas tank had been run dry at the end of the previous season, filled with fresh fuel that morning. Turns out the gas shutoff was closed. 🤦♂️
Mrs O standing by her man and taking a couple of jabs when the opportunity arises! 😂😂
Eric, you're very resourceful!
Father in law took it to the shop and they said “we don’t know……”. How pathetic service is today. If that sticker on the side is the one for the service place he took it to, DON’T GO THERE! You’re the man Eric!
Same response when you go to a stealership.
Looking at that trouble light, I'm willing to bet the in-laws have more glass barrel fuses, than those 'new fangled' plastic blade fuses you got lucky in finding
Lol you're 100% correct. Must have had a hundred glass fuses 😂
That’s my world now.. but they are one of the smaller mowers I work on. 10lbs in a 5lb bag is a very good description.
Brownie points with the in-laws. Good job Eric O.
Wise advice....always check the gas hole first. 😂
lol
Mrs. O is always so happy when you take care of things.
Eric O to the rescue. Nice to have a wrench bender for an in-law. Nice quick fix with no rust.
It’s always nice to have son-in-law’s that are mechanic, a doctor, a dentist, a plumber, and an electrician. I would still change the fuel filters.
My 70 year old father has the same light hanging from a reel in his garage. It has a plug in it too. It’s used more for an extension cord now than it is as a light. 😂
You need to introduce Mrs. O to a Peg video so she knows what Cosby sauce is.
It's always nice to be able to work on something with a heckler sitting a few feet away.
Moral of the story. You're not finished with a repair until you've checked everything and make sure it runs.
One thing my relatives that I do repairs for always insist is that whatever it was was working before. Sometimes they're right, and sometimes they're not right.
And remember, if I can do it, you can do it. Thanks for watchin'!
Your wifes father is a very lucky man to have a son-inlaw like you Cheers mate.
Always check the grounds! Great job. Had a 22hp briggs lawn tractor that would cut out and not restart unless you giggled the whole machine back and forth turned out to be the ground lead off the battery, rotted under the heat shrink, gave it a few jiggles and BOOM, money shot, broke right free to reveal the green puss.
Vanessa is a literal ray of sunshine. Enjoy your ice cream guys!
as we should all know by now, regardless of where he took it before, you are the OG of electrical troubleshooting. great job for the in-laws. You're a class act for not calling other shops out by name. Just enough so that if they're watching, they know who they are. Possibly providing a learning opportunity. rock on Mr. O
Well, there WAS a shot....a clear shot.....of the dealer's decal at one point.
@@G31mR Yes I saw it too, but that's not necessarily where the work was done. It might be, but he didn't call them out on it. I'm satisfied with how Mr. O wants to play it, so I won't guess. :)
"Contact" never fails to crack me up...
Why am I just discovering this channel!?!? 😂 can’t get enough of the O’s 😊
Eric - you have superior mechanical instincts. They serve you well. Great job!
Mr.O you have got life sorted. Awesome family and a job you find interesting, it really doesn't get any better than that.
You know the Mom And Dad love having Eric in the family. Extra helping of ice cream for the son-in -law!
You would be surprised!
I am as nice and handy as Eric O. You name it, I have fixed it for my in-laws. They take me for granted and treat me like crap. You find out quickly being married that in-laws are not like your real family!
Eric O got lucky on that!
A friend of mine, had a broken down wreck of car that was dead and sitting for a long while. He asked me if I could help him. I did. Got the old hulk running and driving for him in one afternoon. His mother, who did not really know me and who was very nervous about me "getting under the car" about leaped to the moon when she came out and saw the car running. She praised me again and again. Cooked me dinner. Praised me some more. Gave me leftovers. And then called me the next day to thank me again. My in-laws? Huh! Would have meant nothing to them. "Oh, you have the shop and the tools to do it."
Or some shit like that!
Rant over. I feel better!
😂
Mrs O is so cute just sitting there while you talk shop. Hope to be lucky enough like you to find a true one like her
Mrs. O looks like a queen on her throne
The look Mrs. O gave you when you called it Cosby sauce had me rolling... Peg would be proud.
Pretty easy Fix For The father in-law nice work as always @Eric O - After Hours
3:26 I like how they painted the inside of the gas tank so the paint chips fall directly into the gas that's immediately ingested into the carburetor. Smart.
That's why there's two, *two* count 'em, fuel filters on the lines.
@@mikeybhoutex Clogged with paint chips.
@@BuceGarApparently not so far, thing's started up on its own, so... *shrugs*
I was looking for a drop light like that at Harbor Freight a couple weeks back.
I'm 75............... always a joy to see Mrs. O'
Be better to try a neighborhood yard sale...
After Hours are really kicking these last few days!! Love it “O” Family!!
Nice Ferris zero turn 👍
Mrs O has the best seat in the garage
Two problems and you found/fixed both. Lucky you, you had an assistant, the lovely Mrs. O at this job/location.
Different equipment, same principles, it's running and thank you for this video.
This is one of the coolest videos you’ve posted. Helping family
🤣 You know what happens when you break out the ole Cosby Sauce Eric !! You’re lucky you were able to finish the job at hand with Mrs “O sitting there.. Another great video. Take Care my friend..
I love it when my wife (who has a Doctorate) decides to come out to the garage and supervise a repair. You are a better man than me kemo sabe!
I think Mrs O needs to be drinking in the peanut gallery in all of your videos now!! Absolutely hilarious!!!
Eric O. thought he was getting a free meal...guess again buddy! Nice job getting it fixed!
Mrs O. with the brewski. The channel gets better and better. 😊
Always nice to help out the In-laws. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your ice cream! 👍🏻👍🏻
When I worked for IH, fixing Cub Cadets, I made several service calls for no starts, or quits. Each time they were out of fuel. Each time, I offered the wives the option to install a new spark plug, and if they added gas in they meantime, that apparently was the problem, and the wives could dave face, and not explain to the spouses how they just ran out of gas.
Hey! I still have one of those lights! Works much better than the whale oil lanterns we used to use.
Another great electrical diagnoses .... Eric O's # 1 rule ... check grounds, check fuses
I have just found this your second channel, since you mentioned it on your, whats up Wednesday, this week. Have been catching up on all on this channel...I LOVE IT! The interactions with Mrs O are terrific, recipes, gun shooting contest, Bbqing. Thank you for mentioning it! See ya'll in next one! God Bless!
USAF
"...because gravity doesn't work like that" Classic
it's true Jim lol
Eric the Son in Law that every Father wants Awesome Job and i like how Ms. O Wants to make sure it Restarted
Trouble Light wow does that bring back memories 😅
Gotta love when the shop can't figure out what ends up being 2 simple fixes, with just a little troubleshooting!
Troubleshooting is Eric O's food. Troubleshooting for many other shops is just too much trouble...
They probably never really looked at it, or some kid in the shop couldn't figure it out so they said they have no idea, rather than having someone actually trouble shoot the problem...very common where I live, shops have a lot of unskilled employees because they don't want to actually pay the wages of a real mechanic that can fix anything, so they hire people with no skills whatsoever and pay them minimum wage...if they so happen to accidently fix a machine that comes in they get a pat on the back, if they can't fix it they get a pat on the back and get told better luck next time.
By the looks of that Steiner, I don't think I'd want to own one, and given the cost of them, I sure wouldn't pay that kind of money to get a fake tractor with a rats nest of wiring, and that is how they come from the factory, wiring mess and hoses everywhere. They also don't have a true PTO, its all a belt drive system like a lawn tractor with an electric PTO clutch pulley setup. Pretty janky system for the $25-30k+ these things cost.
kind of ruin's Eric O's common missive that "he's just like thousands of other mechanics out there, he's no different, he just has a youtube channel." -- ya right.
We have become a replace mentality. They would rather sell him a new tractor than fix the old one. A ground and as a fuse and a shop could not find that? Time for a new shop.
@@andyd9900 I've found that privately owned small engine shops are the way to go. The dealers typically don't have a clue.
Nice to see Mrs. O taking it easy. Great job on the mower
Mrs O and the inlaws must be SO proud of you! Great diagnosis. I would have pulled the fuel line & cranked. Wouldnt have known a fuse. THATS what separates the men from the boys. 🤓👍
Never would have found without the boss there to supervise! 😁
Good on you Eric for helping out the in laws. People always over look the basics.
Love the "After Hours" shows. You were a little out of your wheelhouse working on a machine you've got zero experience with,,,, but you picked your way thru and figured it out pretty quickly. No dash lights or gauges would of had me looking for a fuse right off the bat. I'm sure it was in your mind's list of "bads" from the beginning as well.
like an old chevy, if the dash lights and tail lights both go out, you blew a fuse.
How about that close up of Gas Hole huh ?
Love the way you present your troubleshooting I was autumn mechanic for 35 years professionally still fixer upper guy, 73 years old but you keep building these videos for the young guys. You’re a great inspiration. I love the way you work with your wife and the way you banter back-and-forth, just really enjoy watching your videos. Don’t keep up the good work.
Cosby sauce... bahahahahaha. Mrs. O's innocence was so cute there.
Excellent work, thanks Eric!
Oh you just know Eric is getting the good loving tonight for saving the day 😂😂
Fixing the in-laws mower is like having a new pool installed. You will discover more relatives in the next few months than you ever thought, you both had. 😗☺😂🤣
For a son-in-law, you'ns is alright!
All gas engines are the same: spark, fuel and compression. I am not surprised he could fix it. He just used logical steps. Good work.
I like how even with a mower, Mr O follows the same sort of logical steps to track down the problem.
Knew ya wouldn't fail, ya had the boss watchin.........great job Mrs O
Yikes, I always hate it when they bypass relays... LOL Great video!
That was a true bus drivers holiday!
ANOTHER!! very well done video. It’s always good to show the very human side of existence. Well done.🤜🤛
That repair is totally worth a home made pie 😊
It's amazing to me that he took that to the shop, for a loose ground strap, and a blown fuse, and they couldn't fix it. Typical for these lawn mower superstores though, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
My thoughts exactly! From the sticker, it looks like a small local dealer who has been in business a while. They are usually good, especially working on the brand they sell. Surprising.
Dragging that machine non running to the shop must have been 0 fun. Then dragging it home broken🙄
They just sell stuff they don't know how to fix what they sell...the "service department" is just there to put the wheels on air up the tires and put the seat and steering wheel on that's all they do in many of these places, they don't really know how to fix anything let alone troubleshoot a problem regardless how simple it may be.
I wouldn't assume he sent it to the dealer, how often do you see a dealer for this brand? He may have went further to purchase this thing than he would to fix it.
Yay. Good job Eric. We all know you couldn't have done it without Vanessa guiding you along the way.
Pretty cool that they have a son-in-law to fix the mechanicals. My inlaws always hit me up about computer stuff.
Good ad for Jim's equipment repair.
this is why two strong familys collide good.
Hi Eric and the lovely Mrs. O., Eric's farm show!! 10 pound of crap 2 pound bag is called a blivit! According to my Parents. And I'm 72 yrs. young and I use the same lights you do so there!
One bad thing about those trouble lights is they get darn HOT!
Unless you screw in an LED bulb...
Always nice to flex with the in-was nearby. And today with the Lady “Queen of the Realm” there to cheer you on (ask doughting questions).
Eric O - Makes ANY engine work fun. Mrs. O - Makes ANY throne she sits upon even lovelier! These After Hours adventures are great. How's about another target plinking episode - are ya up for the challenge? 😁
😂 “Tell me your over 70....” my 89 year old dad still uses the same type of light, I think he bought it at Sears in the early ‘70s.
The old school drop light proves the axiom,
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
Mrs. O is always so patient.. that's a winner!
Mrs. O’s got the right idea, I think I’ll have myself an ice cream cone too.
Hey I'm not over 70 and I have one of those old style drop lights.
And I just used it to help me change out a CV drive shaft and wheel hub bearing in a 23 year old Dodge truck.
Works good, last long time.!
All it has to do is make enough visible light, and you don't have to recharge it. I have a lithium powered LED light stick thing and just when I need it to illuminate a small project is when it fizzles out and needs a charge.
Best SIL in the world. You go Eric.
After watching your videos I am of the opinion you should be teaching. a course in logic! Mechanics, math, electricity, electronics are all episodes you have taught. This video was a perfect example of logical thought. At the end you said"keep it simple". Not the first time, but... Your detective-type deduction of problem-solving is just such a teachable 15 min class. Impressive. entertaining, educational, Nice Job.
I was laughing my ass off at The Cosby Sauce and Mrs. O rolling her eyes in the background 🤣
For real, for many reasons, no joking your everyone's hero and reason number 1 walks with you thru thick and thin.
"contact" - makes me giggle every time....Ivan would have been all over that - voltage drops across all of those fuses! lol
That Steiner tractor reminds me a little of the Ventrac machines. Nice detective work Sherlock Ohms.
Love your after hours shows. More please.
There is only one spark in that video Mr O…….. And that is Ms. O😉😉😃
Kind regards from Amsterdam
It looks to me that Mrs O was Googling "Cosby sauce" right after you said it 🤣🤣
