A very useful video! Thank you for pointing out the exact colours you used, and the historical context. It is greatly appreciated. I'm doing my Australians in jungle greens so this is perfect.
The reason for SMS Pilbara being different is a little interesting, The Landies you've shown in the video are wearing the older Pilbara Type camo, where the Oxide Red-Brown was overlaid on the Black in the "Eastern States" Pattern we all know and somewhat love, sometime between the 1990s-2000s and around about the same time as ASLAV's became common a second newer type of the pattern emerged where "Pilbara Brown" (what the SMS colour appears to be emulating) was overlaid on the FS Green in the Eastern Pattern
Ah! Thanks for that. That's very interesting. That explains the difference and why one of the sources I saw mentioned replacing the green. Thanks for posting this up.
Thanks Frank. The sources are a bit scattered, so it was fun to round them all up. There was lots of fun rabbit-holes like the interim schemes and the Pilbara Red AUSCAM. But only useful to Aussie players really.
I used Hakata colours with a brush. No recomendation for details for brushpainters. But they were great for basecoating. Yes, I needed 5 to 6 layers instead of 2 to 3 uesind Vallejo Model colour (I used it on a 6mm tank so it wasn't such a big deal. In greater scales you have to do a lot more work for sure). But the result was great. It was nearly impossible to bury details in paint and when it was done it looked great.
@@FogofWar haha thanks for the shout out mate! Id love to give this auscam a shot, youll have to let me know what set people pick and we can go from there. I must say the last set looks great 🤔
This was great Harry! You answered a lot of questions I had about AUSCAM and what paints were a good match. I have photos of the tanks and APC's and your Vallejo paint suggestions look really close to the full size color and the washing does tie everything together. YOur models look very good too. Thanks for sharing this and I will be watching this again.
Your Vallejo choices are really close to the AK set imo, glad I got those colors already in my collection if I ever decide to do AU vehicles as a collector.
Harry ive used the SMS airbrush and paint on sets, the i like the airbrush stuff as it works perfectly. I havent tried the agrax shade though - that part im still working on. Get him to play with that one id love to see his technique.
Hey Scott. It's always good to hear from someone who has actually used a product. Glad to hear it worked well for you. That should be good for others to know. Thanks for posting!

Yeah. Jungle green is time-accurate. But the camo is fun. I wanted to document the history as much as I could.

Hell yea, I am going to need this guide here soon! I am about a dozen M113 (T50)s short of having every PC for an Aussie list.
Great. Good luck with that! AUSCAM, or plain overall Lustreless Olive Drab?
My M113 variant in Germany circa 1990 had a similar DPP paint scheme. A year later I was in Saudi painting my vehicle a Sand CARC.
CARC has been a game changer.
Great reference guide.

Trekan, thanks for that. I must break my airbrush out of storage...
Looks great Harry
Thanks 👍
Top stuff Harry and the history is fantastic 😁 Now get painting that digital camo 😖
Yeah...nah! But I did throw out a challenge to Painting Panzers at the end!

Glad it was helpful! I often do this stuff to get it straight in my own head, so it's always great when it helps others too.

Really interesting Harry. That digital scheme looks an interesting option
Yeah. But not one I’m going to try and paint!
@@FogofWar I know you can get Camo masks.
Just in time Harry, I recently grabbed a NATO box with some Leo's in that I think would look good as Australian Army.
There you go. That should get you started!
Good stuff .
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent coverage on the subject. Any interest in doing this for other Team Yankee countries?
I think a lot of the other TY countries are fairly well covered. Do you have any particular suggestions?
Using auscam is the only option for my Catachan Jungle force.
