I forgot about this until you covered it in Mushoku Monday. You have no idea how far away the payoff of that scene was. The fact that this was foreshadowed wayyyyy back here is insane. Rifujin's setup-payoff gaming is just ludicrous.
I wish they would have kept it in. Seems like a funny cool moment.

I’ve read the series multiple times over in various forms. Seven seas has a reputation for translation errors and typos. It’s just number like #20 so far.
Wouldn't mind a deeper dive for our anime only bros for most of the things in Volume 5. Most of what was skipped added so much to the story and they deserve to know. Shiera and viera, paul, the dinner, norn and rudeus, therese, etc
This and frieren are probably the best/most important anime in over 5 years.
I have a huge hunch that they will actually animate this way later on in the anime. Like now that I get a feel with how the anime is handling this show, I could see this being turned into like a flashback scene. And I have an idea where they might put it as well. Looking forward to your review for when you get there. Curious to know if you think they could sneak this scene back into the story too. But for now.... The end of Vol 14 and the beginning of Vol 15...

Also you have 6 uncapitalized gods and one capitalized God. Please pick one. Being that it's a title it should probably be capitalized.

Wait I think this got sevenseased. Pretty sure Laplace is still 4th and Death God is still 5th. I can never imagine the lower three to slightly even reach the levels of Laplace
Gonna buy vol 1-21 of the LN. Honestly after listening to your videos on Mushoku Tensei, I feel like I'd be losing such a huge part of what makes Mushoku special if i don't read the source material. Although i cant afford the actual legitimate copies, i can at least buy reprints for 1/6 of the original price. That said, it's interesting to note that chapters like this is quite hard to be adapted. It makes sense to change POVs in the LN but how would they pull this off in the anime? They did it wonderfully with Fitz and Rudy but I feel like an abundance of POV change would make the pacing of the show not as snappy as it is right now. Maybe if they extended the season by a few episodes then they could've adapted things like Zenith's POV in family meeting or this side story. Things like character monologues and updates on what's happening to the other casts of the show can only be known by reading the novel, that's why I really salute you for making these videos and letting us anime only's know about the amazinh details that are left out. Can't wait for your next Mushoku Sundays. See ya
(P.S. Ik you thing Cid is an annoying protag and I used to hate him too, the way I find myself to actually enjoy the show is by shutting my brain off lol. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on tearmoon empire too)
You are 100% correct. The anime cuts out a lot of the slice of life aspect of the light novels, but that is what makes the story feel complete. I started as an anime-only fan, but once I caught up to season 2, I switched to the light novels. I was so immersed that I finished all of them and had to switch to the web novel 😭 I was rather surprised on how the anime adapted the introduction of Princess Ariel, though. I feel they made a rather important character seem like a filler character.
I think the king dragon Borders the conflict zone. So how in the death god is a defensive measure. They shouldn't have skipped him meeting his auntie. As even minor characters have a way of reappearing

I've only read the webnovel, so I don't know if things develop quite the same way in the light novel, but in the WN at least, we do meet the Death God again, and we do find out why he has that title. It's quite a long ways off, though.

Rice is just a side dish or a filler ingredient.
When i was reading Japanese version of the novel there were no side stories at the end of each volume. Instead they were all put together in the separate volume that was published after the story was resolved. After knowing that few tought (spoiler free;): most of these side stories were funny tidbits that were adding some flavour to the story but weren't especially importnant world building wise. (They were helping in understanding and liking characters better).
Some more: when i was reading the side stories after knowing the whole story I have a thought that they were (instead of being written as the story was progressing) added at the end to make to story feel more fullfiling. I can't say if it was really the intention. And don't know why they are adding them in each volume in the English version, but not in Japanese.
As anime-only viewer of your cut content. It just seems like foreshadowing for the Dragon Kingdom wanting to invade and expand into the weakened Asura Kingdom. Which you've mentioned in stories about why it's important for Ariel to take the throne and strengthen the weakened kingdom.

I guess Nanahoshi couldn't convince the death god to use another type of meat and Rudeus just finished his whole career because of that lol

One thing I've been wanting to point out that you often do (and you didn't do it here, I don't think but did in your new MM video but can't comment there), is criticize what Rudy thinks from a very Western perspective. Either you don't usually remember at the time that Rudy is Japanese (and his current world is kinda even worse about those things) or you don't know enough about the culture (or at least the troupey culture as it's disseminated to the West via Japanese entertainment).

This wasn’t some sign he grew stronger, or some crazy plot twist. This is just seven seas being seven seas. He’s number 5 and stays number 5 throughout the main mushoku tensei story.
You have plenty of theories (that I can tell you are right or wrong but obviously won’t) that are entertaining and have viable reasons to be believed. This isn’t one of those. Just one of the many seven seas typos

*Spoilers* -The Death god later is gifted by the dragon kingdom to Zanoba's little Brother Pax. Ater Pax is shiped off to the Dragon Kingdom as a punishment for the incident with Rudeous and taking all his servants families hostage, Pax grows more mature in the Dragon kingdom, proves himself to them, and falls in love with one of their princesses. Pax is then gifted the death god as a guard to aid him in taking the throne of the Shirone Kingdom.-

Orsted also mentions that the death god in other timelines became a failed chef, so the fact that rudy went off on him at that moment he inadvertently changed the Death Gods future
