@@madeinsergei8492 Considering that Sara was first seen in the Light Novels (Which IIRC was predated by even the manga adaptation), she basically had to be inserted into an already existing and insanely successful story. Hard to make her an exceptionally important character without needing to rewrite a solid 12-15 volumes; Basically, 2/3rds of the entire story.

For real, it's such a crucial moment for her, it would've completely redefined her character. This, as well as her dislike for nobility needed to be put into anime for her character to make any sort of sense.
I haven't read any of the manga or light novels for this show, and up to this point though Sara was kind of a C word. All this backstory and her actions they left out in the light novel make me see her differently now. I'm probably going to pick up the LNs and read it for myself now that I know just how much is missing context wise from the show.

I might consider this a **minor spoiler**, but Rudeus and Sara meet again in a later future in the history. They meet again on the road, both in their own quests, they talk to each other, share what they had been doing since the last time they saw each other, put the past behind and make amends, both knowing that what happend was a misunderstanding of both sides, since Rudeus didn't know Sara's feelings for nobles and Sara didn't know about Rudeus issues at the time. Is a nice moment of the history for me because it clearly shows how it's characters can grow and change through time.
They meet twice actually. Once when they were bodyguards for a noble and then much later near the mercenary city. I liked both moments a lot for the same reason because it was unexpected to see her again and you could really contrast how much Rudy has grown as a person when they talk to each other. I almost feel bad for her though because Rudy at that point is giving off major chad energy. I'm sure she regrets it haha

I love how every character is so deep and well written, things that rudeus doesn’t think about weigh on people for so long. Example is Paul’s insecurities as a father from rudeus’s look of disgust at him for hitting him as a child, leads to a massive argument years later that could have lead to repeat of Paul’s childhood.
I agree. Though the thing between Rudeus and Sara was just a ridiculously massive misunderstanding. I would love to delve into Paul's character one day, maybe a bit later once I have read into the ln.

And Sara's pride and snap judgements also ruined the relationship. However mushoku tensei does have the idea that they both learnt from their mistakes and grew as people.
I'm anime only and I was so darn confused why Sara behaved they way she did. Now her character feels much more fleshed out and honestly very relatable, the concept of "relationships ruined by misunderstandings that were completely avoidable" and the theme of "re-evaluating your beliefs after being confronted by a blatant contradiction" is so real god damn.
As an anime only, your video entirely changed my view of Sara's character. That last bit of reflection was left out of the adaptation and I am genuinely sad it was left out.
I already thought the scene where Sara throws the dagger down in front of Rudeus was immensely heartbreaking, but learning about the other parts from the LN that were cut is just emotional damage on another level. Where most anime turn lovers’ spats into a joke, this one actually shows a harsh reality with no winners.
From what I've seen, the anime is approaching the story from a different perspective. It tells us the story in the POV of the world around Rudeus, showing us what actually happened in the scene and what Rudeus is aware of instead of making the view know what each character is thinking. Of course there are still scenes where we get to hear what the characters are thinking, but most of it is just us, our thoughts and the scene unfolding before our eyes, it strikes a balance of explanation and giving us time to absorb the emotional moments of the show. This is a change I personally love as it immerses the audience in the story and gives us a feel that what we are watching is real which I think, is better in the animation format.
@@Adodang Yeah it seems like a lot of the "cut content" is stuff that doesn't happen from his perspective. I tend to prefer it as well when a story focuses on a single perspective, but it kinda leads to some awkward assumptions being made by the viewer about certain characters and events. That said, there's too many stories which hop between the perspectives of insignificant characters such that it becomes tiresome for the viewer to focus on.
Just give in and read the novels honestly. It's going to take so long to get adapted, and as someone who read this one back when S1 finished, I can assure you, that it is a different kind of fun participating in seeing it unfold as an adaptation, while you know what's going to happen. Just be sure to not spoil stuff if you end up reading it!

I hope they make an OVA for Sara similar to Eris' goblin hunt. Seems like there was a whole segment in the LN which was from Sara's perspective which was not in the anime.
i have been reading the light novels recently and it really has made me love this series all the more, the world and especially the characters are amazing. i just got finished with rudeus finding paul in millis, and seeing pauls perspective and his conversation with geese has really made me appreciate this story.
I didn’t know her character had so much depth to it. This is probbably one of the reasons I love this series so much. The depth it gives to its characters and the world is just phenomenal. Also great video dude, they just keep getting better and better. Also this clip 4:53 got me cracking up.

Great video on an underrated character. Volume 7 is one of my favorites, in part due to characters like Sera and Soldat, and I was floored when I learned that the original web novel didn't even have this content instead skipping straight to magic school arc. The anime did as well as it could have in it's adaptation, making me appreciate this arc all the more. Would love to see a Mushoku Tensei Effect video for Soldat in the future, bro deserves it for helping Rudeus out of his funk.

I dont like her even after this video but I dont hate her anymore, your video made me appreciate writing of mushoku tensei and Sara as a character, and you have my thanks for that, I can understand and sympathize with her much more now
that missing coda to Sara's story changes everything about her, like 90% of people I hated her in the anime, then I read and caught up to where Part 2 starts in the LN's and by then, I really feel for the girl, its heartbreaking we don't get to see her realisation of her mistake shown as that's what people need to understand that she was tormented as much as Rudeus was in a different way.

They meet up again in the future. If you watched the last episode of season 2 part 1 you know Rudeus is cured from ED, thanks to Sylphie. When they meet up after years, they did not talk to each other much, it was awkward. At the end they decided to have a talk and explained everything. She never truly fell for him, it was more like a crush that was about to turn into love. Due to what happened, those feelings became less but she was still thankful for saving her life. They ended up in good terms but that is about it. I don't think they Will see each other ever again, or at least for several years. I'm in Volume 22 of the LN and Sara has never appeared since they had their talk. They just closed the side story between them.
mushoko is such a masterpiece, it flushed out the immature people who were grossed out by the first chapters (i get it), and then treats the audience with amazing characters. i hold it dear to my heart

I've been watching Mushoko Tensei these past few days and that whole Sara arc with Rudy kinda hit close to home (not the ED, but the misunderstandings leading to hatred (becoming hated)). The way things ended between them in the anime made me feel so bad for Rudy because in a sense, I understand (again, not the ED, im good). Long story short, Thank you, keep up the good work 🙂

I love how all the characters here are very well written(not the ones you would expect) I also love that this anime is not main character centred(typical isekai mc). Overall a show that is enjoyable(minus the fan service, Its a tradeoff I guess, you can't love something without hating a certain thing about it).

I really liked this video Edit and how you explained things in a good detailed way without going back and forth. What I even more enjoyed is the fact that you included OST from Horimiya, it was really chill to watch. Edit: you also have a really calm voice which makes it easy to listen to you, i feel like most other RUclipsr during a Analysis are constantly shouting in my ear.
Not many shows have annoyed me as much as this one. Usually if I don't like something I just quit watching but I keep coming back to this one in hopes it'll follow through for me....but it doesn't. The world and art charms me and gives me an awesome sense of potential but then Rudy manages to phuck the feeling up for me.......every time. Like one of those litrpg stories that have an awesome world but the MC sucks so I just skip through it to see if it has cool progression.
That just sounds like you hate Rudy, because you have similar problems as he does and are in denial. If you were truly better than that, you'd be able to understand why he is like that. Considering that you find it worth your time to watch these kinds of videos and comment shows that you're not some hotshot irl, so maybe try some introspection.
Rudeus' impotence and depression is the best arc in the story for me. Portraying MC struggling with themselves despite being strong and doing it good is what i look up in mangas and manhwas i read. That's why i like The Beginning after the End, Nano Machine so much.

Great Video, I also just finished reading vol 7 of the light novel. I think you may have missed one thing at the very end, after sara learned the truth about Rudeus and his impotence, she tried to find him in town, to realize that he had left earlier in the morning. So if Rudeus just stayed in town an extra day, things would have resolved, afterwards we cut to your last scene where she swears she'll make amends when they meet again.

I'm really glad that you made this video, and now I really wish when the anime comes back for the two of them to meet again, because at least I'm glad that even though he let the alcohol do the talking for him and made a fool of himself at that point, that she at least found out later what happened to him, and in what torment he was in, and that she had managed to understand him in some way.
Manga reader pretty far in. Debated the light novels but saw an ending sppiler and gave up on it. I really enjoyed your take and explanation for this character interaction. I appreciate you making this, since I tend to be an anime-only person, and thought that she was under-developed within the anime. You've provided important context that the anime ended up cutting for time, choosing instead to treat her as a sort of stepping stone for the season's arc. Although, ultimately, maybe they made the right choice. Stretching this arc across both parts of season 2 would have probably proven to be an unpopular choice, and it was good to have a nice resolution on the final episode.

I'm glad to find out that Sara's story had a better conclusion in the light novel. I caught up to S2P1 recently and I was super tempted to read the LN but I've been stopping myself since S2P2 is just coming in April. I think the anime kind of did Sara a kind of disservice tbh specially considering it was the key arc of the first half of the show. Only did when Rudeus take out the knife and tried to stab himself in the blink of an eye did it struck me that I'm supposed to be watching a really important story beat. I already thought the scene where Sara throws the dagger down in front of Rudeus was immensely heartbreaking, but learning about the other parts from the LN that were cut is just emotional damage on another level. Where most anime turn lovers’ spats into a joke, this one actually shows a harsh reality with no winners.

From what I've seen, the anime is approaching the story from a different perspective. It tells us the story in the POV of the world around Rudeus, showing us what actually happened in the scene and what Rudeus is aware of instead of making the view know what each character is thinking. Of course there are still scenes where we get to hear what the characters are thinking, but most of it is just us, our thoughts and the scene unfolding before our eyes, it strikes a balance of explanation and giving us time to absorb the emotional moments of the show. This is a change I personally love as it immerses the audience in the story and gives us a feel that what we are watching is real which I think, is better in the animation format.
@@Adodang Yeah it seems like a lot of the "cut content" is stuff that doesn't happen from his perspective. I tend to prefer it as well when a story focuses on a single perspective, but it kinda leads to some awkward assumptions being made by the viewer about certain characters and events. That said, there's too many stories which hop between the perspectives of insignificant characters such that it becomes tiresome for the viewer to focus on.

I hope they make an OVA for Sara similar to Eris' goblin hunt. Seems like there was a whole segment in the LN which was from Sara's perspective which was not in the anime.
i have been reading the light novels recently and it really has made me love this series all the more, the world and especially the characters are amazing. i just got finished with rudeus finding paul in millis, and seeing pauls perspective and his conversation with geese has really made me appreciate this story.
I didn’t know her character had so much depth to it. This is probbably one of the reasons I love this series so much. The depth it gives to its characters and the world is just phenomenal. Also great video dude, they just keep getting better and better. Also this clip 4:53 got me cracking up.

Great video on an underrated character. Volume 7 is one of my favorites, in part due to characters like Sera and Soldat, and I was floored when I learned that the original web novel didn't even have this content instead skipping straight to magic school arc. The anime did as well as it could have in it's adaptation, making me appreciate this arc all the more.
Would love to see a Mushoku Tensei Effect video for Soldat in the future, bro deserves it for helping Rudeus out of his funk.

that missing coda to Sara's story changes everything about her, like 90% of people I hated her in the anime, then I read and caught up to where Part 2 starts in the LN's and by then, I really feel for the girl, its heartbreaking we don't get to see her realisation of her mistake shown as that's what people need to understand that she was tormented as much as Rudeus was in a different way.

They meet up again in the future. If you watched the last episode of season 2 part 1 you know Rudeus is cured from ED, thanks to Sylphie.
When they meet up after years, they did not talk to each other much, it was awkward. At the end they decided to have a talk and explained everything. She never truly fell for him, it was more like a crush that was about to turn into love. Due to what happened, those feelings became less but she was still thankful for saving her life. They ended up in good terms but that is about it. I don't think they Will see each other ever again, or at least for several years. I'm in Volume 22 of the LN and Sara has never appeared since they had their talk. They just closed the side story between them.

I love how all the characters here are very well written(not the ones you would expect) I also love that this anime is not main character centred(typical isekai mc). Overall a show that is enjoyable(minus the fan service, Its a tradeoff I guess, you can't love something without hating a certain thing about it).

Not many shows have annoyed me as much as this one. Usually if I don't like something I just quit watching but I keep coming back to this one in hopes it'll follow through for me....but it doesn't. The world and art charms me and gives me an awesome sense of potential but then Rudy manages to phuck the feeling up for me.......every time. Like one of those litrpg stories that have an awesome world but the MC sucks so I just skip through it to see if it has cool progression.
That just sounds like you hate Rudy, because you have similar problems as he does and are in denial. If you were truly better than that, you'd be able to understand why he is like that. Considering that you find it worth your time to watch these kinds of videos and comment shows that you're not some hotshot irl, so maybe try some introspection.

Rudeus' impotence and depression is the best arc in the story for me. Portraying MC struggling with themselves despite being strong and doing it good is what i look up in mangas and manhwas i read. That's why i like The Beginning after the End, Nano Machine so much.

Mushoku Tensei has definitely spoiled me, character backstory and development like the show has is so fun to watch even if you don’t always get it the first time around. Great Video, I also just finished reading vol 7 of the light novel. I think you may have missed one thing at the very end, after sara learned the truth about Rudeus and his impotence, she tried to find him in town, to realize that he had left earlier in the morning. So if Rudeus just stayed in town an extra day, things would have resolved, afterwards we cut to your last scene where she swears she'll make amends when they meet again.
Thanks! I see what you mean, but I did infer it when I mentioned that Sara knew that Rudeus leaving town and not saying anything was a sign of rejection. But maybe I should have said it a bit more clearly so that people could understand just how big of a misunderstanding this whole thing was :,)

Manga reader pretty far in. Debated the light novels but saw an ending sppiler and gave up on it. I really enjoyed your take and explanation for this character interaction. Havent caught up to the anime yet, and showing the differences eith manga or anime images was very smooth. I actually appreciate your fast talking speed and concise dialogue. Sometimes it feels like other creators stretch things out for a longer run time. I was very happy to like and subscribe to your channel. Many beg for it or remind part way through. I appreciate you making this, since I tend to be an anime-only person, and thought that she was under-developed within the anime. You've provided important context that the anime ended up cutting for time, choosing instead to treat her as a sort of stepping stone for the season's arc. Although, ultimately, maybe they made the right choice. Stretching this arc across both parts of season 2 would have probably proven to be an unpopular choice, and it was good to have a nice resolution on the final episode.

I'm glad to find out that Sara's story had a better conclusion in the light novel. I caught up to S2P1 recently and I was super tempted to read the LN but I've been stopping myself since S2P2 is just coming in April. I think the anime kind of did Sara a kind of disservice tbh specially considering it was the key arc of the first half of the show. Only did when Rudeus take out the knife and tried to stab himself in the blink of an eye did it struck me that I'm supposed to be watching a really important story beat.
