Correction on the sex scene on Episode 21, in Eris's Mind she definitely want to be with Rudy and is Gung ho with having a Family, but during the Sex she realizes how small Rudeus Hands are and is ironically in her Mind an forcing an Adult(Eris who just turned 15) to have Sex with a Child(Rudeus who is at the time 13) she felt Disgusted with herself(as she should) and then decides to leave to become the person who can protect Rudeus and is worthy to have his Child.

To expand on this. LN cut context.
Eris had become so insecure after the orsted incident and finding out about her family that she had intended to use sex as a surefire way to keep Rudeus with her. It was actually her mom who has pushed her to Rudeus on his 10th birthday (which we don't find out until this Eris's interlude. Before it was very much implied that it was her dad's scheme), telling Eris that if she sleeps with him he will definitely not leave her.
But like you said, during the act she realized how small he really was and how wrong it was to be so utterly dependent on someone who is still a child. She felt terrible that she would become his chains, prompting the separation.

Rifujin-san put his own experiences of redemption and used his mother's undying love as underpinning the redemption message in Mushoku Tensei - terribly flawed characters either seeing the light, having a change of heart, or learning a lesson either through others' actions, or more along his own experience, their own actions.

About sex scene with Eris. She did it not because it was their last time seeing each other. At the time of her having sex she didnt even know she would go away from rudeus. It was sex out of fear of becoming alone, out of fear that rudeus will leave her after he fulfilled his promise to her. She did it to bind him to herself with a spell named "family". She knew he liked her, but she knew either of them wasnt ready for it. She wasnt strong enough to shoulder all of her fears and complexes and so she put it all on rudeus, boy that (at lest to her knowledge) was 2 years younger that was already morally exausted from having to make all hard desidions. Thats why that when she looks at him after the scene was over and sees that his hand is even smaller than hers she understands what actually she had done to him. And being so disgusted with herself she desides that at the very least she must become someone that can be on the same level as him, her inner strengh level must reach the level of her love toward rudeus or she would just become his shackeles.
It's one of the strongest romantic writing in anime i've ever watched. I still have tears in my eyes every time i hear opening or second ending. This show was increadible. I dont know about others but i have very strong feelings about LN story in general and Eris in particular.

    • @ApexGale
      @ApexGale 2 года назад +251

It's also worth noting that the age Rudeus is in this world at the end of this arc is almost exactly the age he was when he stopped going out. He is 13, almost 14 by the end of season 1, and his previous life effectively stopped at the age of 14 when he became a shut in and pushed his family and friends away from him. His entire world was just his room and the internet, not maturing or growing mentally/emotionally. The entire romance with Eris is actually a major step in his life because heartbreak is what allows him to finally grow emotionally. We as human beings need stimulation to grow, and romantic love is a major part of our lives should we choose to pursue it. Eris leaving hurts him in the short run, but helps him grow to be a better person in the long run who has to actively consider how people may perceive him.
And I think what makes that scene so great is that instead of remaining a shut in after this experience like he did in his past, he actually shakes it off. And what pulls him out of his depression is not the idea of pursuing romantic love again, but actually recalling familial love. It's memories of his original mother, and his new mother Zenith, that get him out of bed and back on his feet. The remorse that he finally feels having pushed his old mother away, and his desire to see his second mother safe and well again.

Love this story. Kinda grew tired with the generalized themes and generic approaches that anime stories have. Give me more stories about a bastard husband cheating on their wife but finding a way to be a good father, or about outcast family members running away from their previous life but missing the people that cared for her, or someone whose entire life consisted of running away from their own problems but trying to solve the problems for other people in their new life. I like anime because I love animation but don't like how western animation treats its viewers only as children. This is exactly the kind of story that I want to see from anime, completely adult in its topics and unashamedly presenting its nuances.

One thing which I love in MT is the scene in the finale where Rudeus gets the strength to move forward because of his mother. That was a masterful way of showcasing the growth of the character- by showing how he interacted with his parents on both the earth and this new world. His parents were loving and supportive in both worlds, but where the old Rudeus skips his parents' funeral to fap to porn, the new Rudeus is able to break his depressive fall with the thought of his mother's love. A great way to show how he has now grown enough to truly care for his parents.

Most mature part of this show to me is:
Rudy starts out having locked himself in a room for 20+ years... His family, loved ones, friends all couldn't make a chip in the walls he had erected. His parents even died and he didn't leave that room. The only time he left that room was when he was kicked out by violent force.
He was then reborn into another world entirely and through his ptsd flashbacks that we saw for only split seconds at a time... still caused him enough pain and fear that he locked himself away refusing to leave the yard of his new home. It would take Roxy strongly guiding him for him to take his first real step into this new world. (there is a but) BUT! This wasn't Rudy's choice... He was still removed from the yard by someone elses will. (To put this simply... he hadn't broken his chains... someone else had just loosened them a bit for him. You can see this throughout the demon continent journey. Every time he would get down he would seclude himself... when he got his eye poked out... or when his dad punched him in the mouth for talking smack. He always finds a room and locks him self in it. Showing us that the chains still bound him)
When Eris hit him with the old "SKEET and skedaddle"... the old "Dine and dash"... the ole... "FELONY HIT AND RUN!" He locked him self in his tent. And only after some DEEP introspective and self reflection did he muster up the strength to break the chains himself... Step out into the world under his own power, not being forced or dragged along by someone else...
People watch this anime and think that Rudy died when Truck kun blasted his behind, And started living when Roxy took him outside.... Heck. I thought that too till the last episode. Then it all hit me.
Rudeus died when he was beaten and hung in front of his school. And was only, truly reborn when he stepped out of that tent. That's when he ACTUALLY started living again.

You can see him fully maturing and engaging with other people in a normal manner, which is much more than he was able to do in his past life. Eris leaving wasn't the end of his lack of development, it instead references the ending of his past life (note that the age he is at the end of season 1 is right before he became a shut in). In both lives he suffered in his early teen years, but only now was he able to move past it. The final scene of the gate also references this, showing both him getting through his trauma, but also being able to get through it this time instead of giving up.

I think one of the most entertaining aspects of Mushoku Tensei when I was reading the novels in high school has always been just how much Rudeus just seems to fit into the world. He likes to talk about how he died when he was 34, but in reality he barely ever matured or progressed forward in his life at the age of 14. He never got to shed his childish and immature aspects of himself, so while we know he's been reincarnated, everyone else still sees him as very much childish. A smart kid, to be sure, but it's all book smarts. He doesn't know the first thing about working with others, or trying to be considerate and making responsible choices. So everyone sees him as such. Rifujin puts so much effort into having dialogue from different POVs describing how they see Rudeus. And in the end you realize just how much he really is changing after all these years learning from the people around him. People like to say he barely changed because he's still perverted, and I honestly cannot agree. They miss the forest for the trees, hyperfixated on one negative aspect that he admittedly does not work on often. Meanwhile, after coming to this world, he has learned:
-the value of family, loving Paul, Zenith, and Lilia like a kid would love their parents
-the importance of independence and growing through your own hard work. He has to practice nonstop to improve his mana capacity, and he learns firsthand from Paul that he would have effectively been grooming Sylphy if they hadn't been separated. In the novels Paul even mentions the corrupt nobility of Asura and how they would do this with their concubines, and how it was a major reason why he abandoned his lineage.
-overcame his fear of the outdoors and interacting with others, learning to stand up for himself and what he thought was right
-regained his desire to learn about cultures instead of shutting himself away all day, studying at Roa in Eris's manor
-stops creeping on kids after forcing himself on Eris and scaring her. he still remains a pervert, but this moment is a crucial part for him because he realizes just how important it is to not force himself onto people who are not mentally prepared
-meets Ruijerd and reexamines his personal biases, overcoming prejudice that was instilled in him at a young age
-realizes the importance of being honest with your friends - trying to do everything on his own got a Demon adolescent killed, something which Ruijerd roasts him for nonstop. It also teaches him the value of life, and that the world is not a game he can try to minmax for perfect results
-at the end, finally reflects on familial love and how much he took his first mother's love for him for granted, choosing to atone for that by doing whatever he can to find his new mother.
He changes *so much*. But people just go "wow he's a pervert, shit character!"

I'd like to imagine that MT's concept is evergreen. I believe even if Rifujin is not the person who wrote it, it will eventually exist (or had existed!?). The story is "self-contained" and presented its content without the need for prior knowledge or common sense. In fact, I would argue that MT is best enjoyed not only by suspension of disbelief but also suspension of perspectives and common senses (A.K.A. Just follow and empathize with Rudy). It challenges existing common senses not through subversion, but through replay and reevaluation. For example, while Paul's act of cheating was as expected, the action is never justified or redeemed (in fact, it carried further nuances than just Paul being lustful). Instead, the act is simply a contribution to Paul's characterization: this is who Paul is, yet not who Paul only is. Anything introduced later on and in MT's side stories simply adds to this characterization, perhaps with contextualization, but never redemption. MT commonly teases its readers with sensitive scenarios that often warrants kneejerk responses, yet trains us to be patient and think: taking time to consider things in an unbiased, holistic matter while seeking empathy with all parties involved. Rudy demonstrates this ability frequently and fails at it frequently. This is what I believe is the type of maturity MT tries to show us:
    To avoid kneejerk responses.
To avoid forming a rigid perspective.
To think rationally, even if you hate to or willfully don't want to.
    To have empathy.
    To tolerate.
    Yet:
    Be free and serious.
    Be malleable and strict.
Be emotional and pragmatic with moderation.

Well, Mushoku Tensei is a clear Seinen. It's definitely made by adults for adults. Why? Because even if it didn't have all those pervy tropes, the whole story (no limiting myself to S1 of the anime) is covering so much mature themes that a kid or teen wouldn't be able to understand. Lots of touching moments, of happiness or sadness, character behaviors, how society works in that world, the moral choices are just not things a younger audience could grasp. Only life experience could allow people to sync with the story and its events. Mushoku Tensei is not a classic anime aimed at pleasing the most people : it delivers a touching, credible and hardhitting story which shakes at the very core of the public because it feels real, like you could be with those characters.

What actually surprised me the most when I first watched the show was how casually they portrayed sex. Not in an overdramatic way where even Kissing is seen as something amazing, but in a way as it should be. Just sex. I was astonished at how often the media presents the topic as something holy or as you could call it "the home base". But it's only a way to express yourself to someone you absolutely love. Or in Elinalisa's a pastime xd. But it's just awesome to see an anime, made by Japanese people, take this mature approach to the whole subject.
That just creates a much more realistic representative then your typical slice of life/highschool romcom.
So yeah, that's what I find very mature about this series, it's approach to certain topics. Where a bunch of teenagers would scream about, young adolescents wouldn't. And that's why I find Mushoku Tensei one of the most mature anime I've seen till this day!

as a side note, Rifujin in an interview was asked about this actually, about how he portrayed sexual topics in the novel and series, and he mentions how "series and creators put this things in two distinct extremes, as something sacred or something of pure pleasure, but dont balance it out, with Rudy i make him start in one extreme and move slowly in a middle point as he grows up fitting with his new views", i really admire the way Rifujin did it with showing it as just one thing more on the life of the characters and how he understands the views and uses them to further his work

Such a fantastic video. I really wish people would look beneath the surface with Mushoku Tensei more because it shows you what happens rather than telling you what is right/wrong why/how like so many other anime do. I really appreciate it when someone puts out a review like this. I watched your reaction to each episode and you (and probably chibi) have always had the most mature and well thought out reactions to these episodes. Mushoku Tensei takes some thinking and not everybody goes into it expecting that with it being an isekai and all.
Mushoku Tensei is my favorite series because it tackles its characters, growing as a person, and life in general in such a way that I have never seen any other novel or piece of literature do ever. The struggles of Rudeus feeling like he has made no progress even though he really has hits super hard for me. The struggles of Roxy feeling uncomfortable where she grew up hit me really hard. Each character just strikes home in some way or another.
Really, thank you for helping my Mushoku Tensei withdrawals with your awesome videos on it.

you know... thinking about it, anime in general has shifted focus from shonen to seinen since overly long serieses(one piece and naruto aside) weren't cutting it anymore, but it did so not in abrupt way... but also not in a clear way.
like, looking at shows like re:zero, sao, overlord, death note, steins gate, the promised neverland , made in abyss, hxh, and so on so forth, these are all titles that most people would generally define as shonen, yet some of these are HEAVILY seinen(namely mia, death note and re:zero), while others have some amounts of seinen elements, and others barely anything just on the surface.
and it feels that specifically sao is the catalyst of something: people started taking the seinen elements for granted.
now even mediocre shonen-like shows have seinen elements(which probably ties to phenom's discussion at the start about the discrepancy between "rated M for Mature" and actual maturity in a show) and when something comes out that is ACTUALLy seinen, ACTUALLY mature, people stop looking at it at the surface level, considering only what they can't personally stomach about it and nothing else.
hell, even his words about paul and rudeaus "weird to say but i like a character who has the trait "has cheated on his wife""
like... that shouldn't be so odd to say?
sure, cheating is bad,n obody is putting that into question, but it's something that happens often and ESPECIALLY when tied to a well-written narrative, it can actually improve a character rather than make it worse.
yet that is how he has to describe his liking for paul.
because apparently in anime you cant like a character that isn't perfect... this all reminds me about the darling the franxx ep 14 mess where people were literally hating on a VA and writer because a character did something unlikable.
      like wtf
this shit would never happen in the books and in good part the non-mainstream(i.e. dc or disney, yeah i'm looking at you star wars fandom) movies industry, but seeing how the shift from most animes being shonen to there being a good amount of seinens that garnered succes was so murky, it created this expectation that good characters have to be perfect, i mean, just look at the slew of people on twitter going "if you like a villain character you also like their ideals so you're a bad person"...
      this is all so shallow.
try to take the thing a bit more seriously and it all crumbles down into nothingness.
i wonder if these people would think i also should just spit in my own father's face or something... but no, they probably just can't fathom the idea of something being written enough to be taken with the seriousness a more thought-out or even real life situation would require.

Not only is this show mature, but maturity is basically the main theme of MT. This whole story is full of immature characters growing and ultimately developing into better people.
Rudeus, a perverted social outcast takes responsibility of his own actions, then for another person and ultimately leads his entire family.
Paul, despite already being a family father and highly skilled swordfighter still has his immature features which almost broke his relationship with Rudeus forever.
Roxy, being hopelessly childish despite being one of the most powerful mages in her 40s because she never had a proper childhood and was forced to become an adventurer at a very young age.
Silphy, being bullied without any agency to stand up for herself, being saved by Rudeus, shown a path to self-confidence and ultimately evolving into a competent and highly trained person (although that will be part of S2).
And I don't even know where to start with Eris, for sure the most complex character of the show who also matures the most. Her immaturity is her deep insecurity, always being an outcast and not fitting in and then being left behind by Rudeus both metaphorically and literally. And then when she gained power and felt good and competent, the person she admires the most almost got killed while she could not do anything but watch, utterly powerless. But them losing against Orsted or Rudeus almost dying wasn't the thing that broke her. It was Rudeus being so calm about it, even practising "Disturb Magic" in case he has another confrontation with Orsted. While she could not even have a proper exchange with Orsted, he nonchalantly practices in case they meet again. That's the moment that ultimately broke her and lead to her decision of leaving his side to train as well.

As someone who has read the LN and since the series is based on that right now, I can say that this series is the best Isekai I have seen. It reminds me of the fantasy genre like Lord of the Ring or the Hobbit. The main character is flawed and those around him are also flawed. Rudy is like Bilbo and Frodo wants nothing more than to stay in their towns but gets drawn into an adventure. Rudy gets sent away by his father to separate Sylphette and him. In a sense, he is thrusted into an adventure. He learned multiple languages and sword skills. These stories have struggles and the same with Mushoku Tensei.
I also was disappointed the Mushoku Tensei was snubbed by the CR and other Anime awards. Thumbs up to REDDIT Anime awards and allowing the fans to vote overwhelmingly for the series in most of the categories.

Another thing that the last few episodes (particularly the aftermath of the Eris scene) beautifully portrays is something that I think a lot of people miss on first watch.
Rudeus is a scumbag, we all know this. But he views himself as worse than he actually is, and completely opposite to how those around him view him. Yes Eris idolizes him, but nearly every character Rudeus interacts with grows to respect him because of the things he does. But Rudeus is utterly convinced that his accomplishments are not his own because of his reincarnation and the man god's advices. He believes he can only do the things he does because of some advantages he has that he keeps secret, but fails to understand that he still CHOOSES to put work in towards these favorable outcomes. He chastises himself for the aweful things he's done, and for the mistakes he continues to make, but does not allow himself to see that he has helped a lot of people.
This impostor syndrome (don't quote me. not a psychologist) is ultimately the biggest contributor to the misunderstanding that happens from Eris's parting, and I absolutely love it. It's a completely believable and in character reaction for him, even though it's a trope that is normally thrown in just to sow unnecessary drama.

Very good video. Perfectly on point analysis of the Eris-Rudeus relationship and I couldn't advise you enough about looking for the lyrics of the first ending song of the anime, you'll have more info about how she really feels. Sadly you got into the usual trope of simplifying our (at least for the LN/WN community) dear mature elf : Elinalise. Elinalise is one very complex and interesting character in the entire story. Not only showing her in a gangbang IS essential to begin to set up the character for the audience, but it also foreshadows a more complex situation she's locked in. I hope people will stop categorizing characters at a glance because in this series, particularly, it's just a fallacious thing to do. Nothing and I insist, NOTHING in all Mushoku Tensei story is there for nothing. Every little bit of detail you could have in S1 of the anime is something that will have great importance or significance for understanding correctly the rest of the story, sooner or later.

Won't yield unless viciously beaten, and this has always been, and will always be her personality. It also plays a huge part in her development, as it's primarily a flaw to be like that. And despite her overcoming said flaw, she still retains the same personality.
All i'm saying is that she didn't beat him up for no reason, he slapped her, and challenged her authority. Action which stemmed from a train of thought that was swiftly, violently, and permanently corrected.

Eris seems like a tsundere, but she’s not really a tsundere. At the start, she just beats the shit out of Rudy because she’s a spoiled aristocrat, and she doesn’t like him. Once she grows closer and eventually develops romantic affection towards him, she doesn’t hesitate to show it. A real tsundere will shy away and acts violently or rudely to hide their embarrassment.
Eris beats Rudy not because she’s a tsundere, be because she’s just a violent person.

Gotta be able to separate fiction from reality.
Judge a character by their actions, not their thoughts.
You can enjoy a series even if you do not enjoy all the aspects of its main character. Look closely at Rudeus. Yes he has his flaws, but he is not defined by them. Look at his actions instead. His intentions. He helps others and forms very real and very positive relationships with all the supporting cast. What harm has he actually done? What good has he actually done? How do you weigh the negatives of his character to the benefits.
This series is great for making you question the characters. It's like thinking "if a man makes a mistake but spends his entire life doing good deeds, should he be judged by his mistake or his good deeds?".
Paul is a fantastic example of this. He cheated on his wife. He raped Lilia in his teenage years. Is he a bad person? Will he always be a bad person because of those mistakes? What about all the other things he has done. They surely amount to something, no?

"judge a character by their actions, not their thoughts" This
Sometimes we forgot that us humans are full of flaw. Somebody who is a good person may have had bad thoughts but chose to not act upon them because he knew that it's not right. To have bad thoughts doesn't necessarily means you're a bad person. If you're acting upon it however, you're a bad person.

The most hilarious thing is that Elinalise's group "activities" are non ironicly important for the story, at least they play a very big part for some characters later in light novels. Other than that i wanna admit that after reading light novels my perspective on many things is different from when i only watched anime.

If you have time, check out volume 6 of the light novels, where rather than a minute long speech about standing next to rudeus proudly and protecting him, she has a 14 page soliloquy detailing her side of their entire relationship and their time together. Its my favorite scene in the first half of the light novels, made me cry, its incredible

This comment will most likely get a lot of hate but I feel it needs to be said. There is a difference between sexualizing children and children being sexual people. Thats how the real world is. You don't turn 18 and unlock the skill sexuality. Its a gradual process and children experiment and experience before 18. I get it, it makes people uncomfortable. I was uncomfortable but like the video said. It felt realistic.

I think something that is pretty mature is how characters change. Which is to say, it doesn't happen overnight. Habits built up over a decade don't change all at once just because of some traumatic event most of the time and certainly not for a minor one. And especially they show older characters change more slowly. Eris develops quite fast in comparison which makes perfect sense. This slower more realistic approach to change makes the characters feel so much more real and make the eventual change feel so much better.
For a more dramatic approach, I think ruijerd's character arc was significant. He clashed very heavily with rudy because of his inflexible ideals but through traveling the world realized the value of flexibility and agreeableness without completely being able to let go his rigid ideals.

The two scenes I rmb the most was the scene when he met Paul again in the bar, and the scene when Zenith slapped him when he was gonna cut all ties with his grandmother. The love and emotion in those scenes were so powerful that I tear up no matter how many times I read it, the flaw of Paul and the burden he had to carry, the love of Zenith and the sadness of seeing her family breaking. And Rudeus, who picked up the responsibilities his father left behind, who loved his family like how his mother loved him, to move foward as a person. The maturity in this story is unreal, and it resonates with so many people who were put in similar situations, either it be with their families, with their work, with their lives, and shown them how to pick themselves up again.

  • @SteadyTokai
    @SteadyTokai 2 года назад +1

I know this is very late to the party, but your choice of music during the Paul section is just low key great choice. FFIX's 'You're not Alone' is so spot on as it got to a point with everyone scattered he was desperate and was unsure if he could. Even after the fight both him and Rudy had he was still able to find comfort and be able to move past the struggles he was having after the explosion and finally have a moment of respite and relief to finally be able to continue the search. He, was now, no longer alone in the search of finding the rest of his family. And when I mean 'no longer alone' he now has a dependable, and reliable person of blood to help in the search.

The most mature thing i see in Mushoku Tensei is that the writer Rifujin Na Magonote wasn't afraid to make his characters believably flawed. I have seen so many shows that ether have bland flawless characters strolling through every problem they encounter, or puddle deep archetypes pretending to have a personality. I once tried to explain a character from this Lightnovel to one of my friends. It took me a while, I couldn't seem to boil them down without undermining the character I was trying to describe ( it was Paul BTW).

Throughout 2021, I tried my best to get into anime. I watched several episodes from Stein’s Gate, Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal Alchemist, Attack on Titan, Code Geass, Demon Slayer, and other popular series. I dropped all of these series, however, because I couldn’t connect with their main characters.
Mushoku Tensei is the only anime I watched last year that I connected with. As someone who greatly prefers Man vs Self narratives over Man vs Man and Man vs Monster narratives, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Rudy battle the demons that ruined his past life (anxiety, lust, isolation, hostility, etc). Although the premise of MT is whacky, the character development is sincere. The episode where Rudy forgave his father after remembering how he foolishly pushed his friends and family members away in his past life really struck a chord with me.
My only fear moving forward is that MT might transition to a new formula that focuses on Rudy striving to defeat Orsted rather than his own demons. Watching Rudy become a better man is so much more entertaining than watching him beat up baddies.

The great thing about MT is exactly that it is a story about Rudy and Rudy's experience as his previous self only. While Orsted (and another character) might be the protagonist of the world of the author's headcanon, Rudy is solely the protagonist of MT: the story. Your fears are warranted but that is simply a small part of Rudy's story.

Actually I don't think not liking demon slayer isn't about anime, it's very "Japanese-y"
It might look all flashy and modern but is really an old school samurai film/Noh theatre play. *BIG* there, not so much outside without additional elements.
It's like not caring about "Bollywood" musicals. No matter what dressing you throw over it, if you don't like it then you don't like it!
FMA and hxh has a lot of that stuff *_later_* but it's a bit of a full package deal. You kinda _have_ to go through the early arcs to get better pay off.
Especially with hxh because it's basically a deconstruction *of other popular series back then*

As they say love ❤️ is something not given nor is it bought it’s something that takes a long process to forge to make it into something else and something truly blessed and special.
Eris an Rudy spent so much time together and saw and did so much, the scene was so blissful and true but as they separate and walk on the individual paths there is a saying :
“ Put two ships in the open sea, without wind or tide, and, at last, they will come together. “
    - Jules verne
That is what I find meaning to eris and Rudy’s love. Eris wants to be worthy to stand as a equal person to Rudy to his greatness and protect what she has to keep him safe. So while it’s a temporary goodbye they will meet again and the feelings that once was declared in 22 will be spoken once more
It’s all a question of time; that is all.

That said, the fact that Rudeus and Eris are cousins just never seems to leave my mind, and continues to creep me out during any romantic or sexual scene between them. I understand that may not weird people out as much depending on the culture they were raised in, but I've always been taught relationships like that just don't happen between family members, and it does not cease to weird me out just a little bit each time, despite how amazing the writing and development between the characters are. I just wish they had been written as unrelated characters!

I can't lie, I felt pretty differently about that sex scene. I thought it was viscerally uncomfortable, and I trust the show is going to revisit it if we get a S2. I mean, Rudeus was pretty clear that he wasn't super into doing it at the moment, and Eris was coming on to him really strong. Not to mention, she was feeling a huge moment of weakness from the Orsted fight, and of course finding out her whole family is dead...and then decides she's gonna have sex with Rudeus? And then leaves right after without saying anything. (Also ignoring that their cousins, idk in this context that doesn't feel that bad). This seems like a whole ton of bad for the two of them, and I trust that the show is going to respect that. Not to mention the cup, certainly seemed like it was signifying some sort of disturbance, and the camera work around the pillar in the middle of the tent suggesting some sort of divide. I don't know, an amazing scene, but it did not pull any positive emotions from me.

    • @PhenomSage

It's definitely not all positive for sure, especially regarding the circumstances surrounding what pushes it into happening, but beyond the circumstances I do think there's some intent behind making you feel that this is an important and special moment for this relationship that's been building for the entire series. I can understand looking at it in a way that's uncomfortable, there is that side to it, but I also think there's a genuine love and bond between them that's also being expressly communicated.

cmon yall, at 15:42 there is no way to spin "main character tries to have sex with an 8 year old" into a good thing or for plot
but i got told "he improves, read the manga" and no. By the end of the story he ends up in a poly relationship with roxy, sylph and eris because ofcourse he does.
If you take the "he's an adult using a child's body to get away with grooming" angle, he's a pedo for ending up with sylph and eris
and if you go with the "he's a child so it's fine" makes roxy a straight up groomer with no alternative takes
and hell in the manga, there is so much more lewd loli shit and "well it's for the plot" doesnt work here because regardless the mangaka still spent time drawing a 5 year old with their ass exposed

Side note, this is off-topic, but i would love to see a story of a cheating wife redeeming herself, becoming a better person ( like Paul) because that would be interesting to see in anime, and it would be interesting to see the reaction of these people lol. I feel like they would be more harsh on women who cheat than men do 🤣( i say both are equally bad and are piece of garbag and i shame them both depsite people convincing me otherwise)

This is off-topic,but I have an interesting idea for a story i'm currently writting that feature love triangle, here the premise:
A falls in love with B but then a event in the story happens where A is presumed dead by B and A is put into a coma for 1 month. 1 month after A is presumed dead and in a coma, B now has a relationship with C but due to B still holding feelings for A, the relationship with B and C continues to be stressed as both are trying to have a romance but B is too attached to the memory of A and C is becoming detached from B because of it which results in C finally deciding to break up with B, who is now rendered alone and heartbroken a second time.
A few days later, C comes across a awakened but amnesiac A and not knowing what A visually looked like to B, C assumes this person is just as amnesiac stranger and for the next month the A and C work together and develop a romance despite C still being attached to the memory of B and A wanting to regain their memory. Eventually, something triggers A 's memory and they begin to remember who they are and their relationship with B but now A is conflicted because of their relationship with C and don't know what to do. Around the same time, C is beginning to yearn for returning to their home and rekindle a romance with C but doesn't want to break off their relationship with A and is also conflicted.
A finally decides to confess to C who they really are and that they intend to return home and rekindle their past love which shocks C who is now dealing with the revelation that that their new partner is the old fling of B while A is shocked to find out B is the old fling of A. B also confesses to A they have been yearning to return home to B as well but theorizes that B will only accept one of them back and tells A to go it alone as B never loved C because B never let go of her relationship to A. A saddened by this, bids C farewell and returns home to B who is overjoyed to see A alive and the two attempt to continue their relationship again for the next month.
But A and B both struggle to settle back into a romance because both A and B miss C but do not tell each other this because they are also trying to commit to each other. But eventually B confesses to A that B misses C and wants to reconnect and A reveals to B they also have been thinking the same. B proposes that both A and B seek out C and pursue a polyamorous relationship between the three if C takes them both back. A agrees with this and A and B seek out C and confess their love to C to which C reciprocates their love back to the two and all 3 agree to have a romance with each other.
Does this sound like a compelling love triangle?

well done. you got everything but one thing right, that being eris didnt intend to leave when she slept with rudeus, but realized as they slept together and after, that she had taken advantage him and had been forcing herself on him, even though hes someone younger than her, hes taken care of her all this time. so she feels disgusted with herself. she knows she cant even protect him and if they were to get married now, she would only hold him back and not be worthy to be his wife. and that makes her think of leaving to train which she does that same night

One of the best MS videos I've seen! and just a side note, what you said on 16:00 is mostly true, but the reason Eris slept with Rudeus wasn't because she knew she was leaving, but rather that after losing her family she was distraught, and wanted to build a new one with the person she loves most. It wasn't until after the deed was done that she realized how fragile Rudy actually was, and that her current strength wasn't nearly enough to protect him. That's when she decided that rather then settle down, she would first become strong enough to protect that which she cares for.

in the mean time rudeus committed suicide thanks to his compounding ptsd from his last life and the new life. How wonderful would that have been?

This series is so wrong many ways, it's a world where borderline pedophilia, slavery and sexual harassment isn't punished and while it is a little shocking, it's fresh to see something without censorship or wokeness of shows these days.

The gangbang is actually pretty important in the story, only if read the novels.
    Hope it would get animated

my favorite scene was when Paul confronting rudy for beating up those kids without really knowing the opposite side of the story, it speaks so loud for a lot of people and it so comforting to see how it got handled.
