    I was just talking with my sister about why we both never have had any food issues. We came to the conclusion that it was our moms no fuss cooking. She made traditional normal home cooked meals and we ate it. Period. No discussion about carbs, vitamins, diets. So I totally agree that kids take notice about what parents think about food, diets etc.

      This may be true and it's really a healthy way to feed kids, no doubt. But my mom was the same and I got ED and started overexercising in my late teens. Just because I wanted to fit in a popular body type which was the thinner the better. I think it was because all models, actresses, and popular girls were conventionally thin. So yeah, seems like many girls were doomed. Hopefully, this will change with time

He now has a bad relationship with food, too. People need to know that boys also can have disordered eating! Wish I had found you earlier, Abbey!

      I used food in the reverse way. Bingeing. It was a maladaptive behavior I developed in childhood due to family issues. Brought that behavior into adulthood and I have tried diets and programs but realized I act the same toxic way by being too controlling with food or over exercising. Ugh the saying, “moderation is key” is apt here. Good luck to you and your son.

      My sister did this with her kids. She would also compare her body to her 12 and 13 year old who were very slim and still had children bodies saying how fat she thought she was in comparison and how she wished she looked like them, and one of them is now 15 and has an eating disorder and is terrified of gaining weight. She's obviously going to gain weight because she's becoming an adult with an adults body. Breaks my heart. I think my sister damaged her by telling her that her slim child body was ideal insinuating normal adult bodies are bad. I remember growing up how my mom would criticize her body and talk about all the things she hated about it and how fat she was and I was bigger than her during this time so I automatically learned that my body was bad because if my mom who was skinnier hates her body, I must have been disgusting. That's how I interpreted it at least.

    Thank you! I had actually requested this video. I loved Girls Next Door and really enjoy Holly’s RUclips channel (and new podcast!), but I recognize that she has some pretty toxic diet culture ingrained into her. (No wonder, considering the culture around Playboy, especially in the late 90’s & early 2000’s). She’s such a beautiful woman, but she is often very down on her looks. I wish she would recognize that her worth is not tied to her appearance.

      Playboy is still extremely idolized/supported and I have no idea why🤦🏼‍♀️ even hugh Hefner too. As a psychotherapist, this video you have created is absolutely shocking to me. Holly has spoken about her ED and body dysmorphia. She did not share this video in the service of health advice. Your tone, even criticising the supplements she takes for her health (while perhaps ineffective, none of them dangerous) is at times cruel. The reality is you posted a video shaming and knit-picking the diet of a woman who is open about having an eating disorder... do you have any sense of empathy or self-reflection on how this might be damaging to her? She is a person who deserves better than being ragged on and criticised by a dietician on the internet for your financial benefit.

I would love of the description for the video summarized that info so that if I am listening while I take a walk or drive, I could screen shot it and saw it since I can't take notes. Also, I completely feel for Holly trying to follow good advice but getting so much info it is hard to know who to trust. Also as someone who was a dancer and is in Holly s age range - so shaped by the same beauty messages - the voice in your head regarding how thin you should be is really demanding and loud. I have struggled with food daily for over 35 years. I judge myself for every bite of food I eat and every pound gained or lost, is a measure of my value. It is exhausting.

    So about the lemon water- i’m 8 and bit months pregnant and when I was about 5 and 1/2 I had a pretty bad case of gastritis which they found out was due to my pregnancy causing gallstones because of the pregnancy they obviously were not going to remove my gallbladder and talked about a precautionary diet so I could carry to term. The doctors did recommend lemon water because if it’s alkalizing properties. I don’t know if it was psychosomatic but I will say incorporating lemons and limes into my water and having lemonade when my stomach is really bad has been incredibly helpful.

    • @adbreon
      @adbreon Год назад +1

      I’m glad it helped you but there is no evidence based medicine recommending lemon water for gallstones. It’s from an old folk remedy and several studies have proven it has no effect. The only way to reduce the likelihood of gallstones is a diet low in cholesterol and high in soluble fiber…because that’s how you reduce cholesterol, which is what gallstones are made of. Cholesterol is a lipid and not particularly affected by pH so neither acids nor alkaline substances are going to have much effect.

    Could you please do a review of Dr. Michael Greger?
    He's a proponent of plant-based whole foods and chronobiology. What is your take on chronobiology?
    I appreciate how he talks about how he's against cherry-picking research, confirmation bias, etc, and how he favors democratizing nutrition information. He claims to not profit from his books.
    He does talk about drinking water before eating and causing weight loss, which I've seen your content against.
    I find it interesting how the term moderation needs to be better defined so we can get acclimated to a healthier way of eating. I wish there was more of a psychologist's point of view to describe this. There's a bit of an all-or-nothing mentality here, in my opinion.

    @Abbey Sharp, I need to say that regular folate suplementation is recommended for all women in reproductive age by particular gynae associations ( official guidelines) because it is crucial for the nervous system development in pregnancy. In many countries (including US and western countries) majority of women do not plan their pregnancies and start taking folate too late. Folate prevents serious congenital defects. Also, she mentions that she is anemic so folate is helpful for that as well.
