- R179 C RCI Call yes I changed the title after 2 years bc I forgot
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION
I dont know at first j thought he was doing that because he didnt want me recording but then I actually realized that wasnt even him it was the train itself. Confusing.
Guys, I NOW KNOW that the horn means help due to all the comments that I kept on getting. However, 1, I am not changing the title of this video because it says "WEIRD" for a reason, "MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN" because it could have been broken down since it was honking it's horn repeativly, meaning that maybe it needed help ot had to be fixed. So If I see another hate comment like the words, "Idoit" "Dummy" or any other stuff like that, don't expect to come back on my channel expecting the comment to be reread by you, because it will be in my trash bin in a jiffy. So cut that out.
We understand.
No it hate you . Lol
It wasn’t a mechanical issue, it’s a call for police, the train stopped honking once the police showed up at the end, if it was a mechanical issue, the train would’ve went out of service, but it didn’t. This is title is just pretty much clickbait because it is misinformation.
@@Vulturiousbros Didn't you JUST read this comment. Did you or did you not
Shamari Kinsey Railfanner - Munipals and Trains that’s the thing, there wasn’t a breakdown, period. I’ll say it again, train operator called for help using the horns as a code, cops come, horns stop. What’s so hard to understand that there wasn’t a breakdown? I’m not calling you an idiot (btw grammar) but I’m just asking one small request to change the title so people actually don’t get misinformed.
Did anyone else initially think the horn was from the departing train?
The train that just broke down was doing that before I even exited that (A) Train I was on. But if they were to just get there they probably would have thought it was that (A) Train
R179 were mainly made for speed. This train on the A line takes corners like a fucking beast. This is the first MTA train to produce a “single” spring strut suspension on any mta trains. Thats why when you ride them you dont feel the outside (tracks, scraping, turning) as much on older trains. They are perfect upgrades but they werent built good enough
O l love train's that run under ground.
That poor train is calling out for help. I was told that a long and a short blow of the horn was a signal to transit police for assistance.
So the train does it itself or did he activate that?
Yes it is that’s what it means
finally someone that doesnt always assume @Shamari Kinsey Railfanner - Munipals and Trains change the title and description of your video
@@skrakaayyyyy_itzyostep activate? the train operator is pressing the horn button.
What how did that train break down like that sometimes train's that run under ground breaks down
He is calling for police long and short trust me I was a train operator
Sure
General Grievous no bullshit that’s what it is, it’s a signal for the police
Don't these train operators/conductors have portable radios? Or mobile radios built into the control cab? With underground stations and tunnels, there is going to be Radiax coaxial cable running through out along with repeaters to pick up the the transmissions.
Motorman 1993 is correct, the two horns is to alert any police, Tss or RCI on the station.
Yes but the radio goes to the Control center and they tell you to Signal for police but the most of the police do not know what the horn sound mean most of the time we just close down and move on because you are holding up service as you can see no help
He was signaling for the police who are located upstairs on the mezzanine in the transit police district precinct . Why it took them so long to get down 1 flight of stairs is the real question.
Another funny thing about it is that there must be some sort of problem if they're calling the NYPD meaning they need to fix the train or something
Shamari Kinsey Railfanner - Munipals and Trains Why would a police officer have any skill about fixing a train well they could’ve been a motor man or an MTA worker so he does have a good point
Shamari Kinsey Railfanner - Munipals and Trains It probably wasn’t a train operation issue if the train operator was signaling for the transit police, could have been either an unruly passenger or medical emergency.
fnihp30 Yeah that’s why the motor man was sounding his horn because there is an emergency like an unruly passenger or a train malfunction and Shamari say stop with the ear rape
@@skrakaayyyyy_itzyostep It's definitely a police call. The motorman who is in the front of the train is the one who was blowing the horn on purpose.
Because I remember another one was doing that on a train where a man would not let go of the doors to let the train leave.
It's a call for the police. The other comments that are saying this are correct.
He was signaling for assistance. Horn patterns can be used as code for many things by using a series of long and short honks.
These are becoming more problematic than the R46’s were when they were first delivered. Those extra cars ordered from Bombardier aren’t going to be enough in the settlement if they all just break down. It’s time to sue.
The MTA should further strengthen its vendor governance practices and oversight of such. The MTA is one of the largest (of not the largest) transit agencies in the country. There should be no excuse why the MTA can’t pressure their third-party vendors and even take swift escalation steps (including lawsuits) if contractual obligations are not met by any third-party vendor (the MTA should conduct itself just like any Fortune 500 corporation would with their third-party vendors, such as Bombardier).
fnihp30 you are right the MTA should of talking legal action towards their vendor the bombardiers. Like the MTA said they sold them Lemon trains. I think the MTA should of made a better settlement like having them supply for R179 cars at no cost. Since the MTS all ready spend over 100 million to extend the older trains.
What do you expect, they’re NEW.
Yea
Bombardiear is good at making snow mobiles in Canada and also good at making trains In Toronto so don’t sue
R179 C: (Honks)
Kid:( imitates train)
IKR I WAS LIKE 😂
Lol I once’s blew a R179 horn
"Long-Short-Long-Short" If it was a ship I'd say he's confirming being overtaken on the portside, but since it's an R179, it's probably trying to say "Just give up. Throw me in the Atlantic already."
Lol
There's nothing wrong with the train. The train operator was instructed to sound the horn for help (police)
No. How else is the train going to be held at a station for about 5 Minutes for no reason. I dealt with a train breaking down as well and that is EXACTLY how the train calls out for help when it breaks down for a breakdown. SO please stop with the falsehood comments.
@@Bombardier2199 really? I operate these trains and you're telling me the train is calling for help because something is broken on it? The motorman is sounding for help from police from the upstairs transit precinct at 145st.
@@Bombardier2199 lmao railfans have a terrible tendency to assume things based on no facts and be completely wrong. Dan here is a T/O, and there is a TD at 145. Notice that a uniformed cop and undercover responded to the horn (albeit after a long wait), no TA personnel in sight.
@@awakennyc4039 :/
@@dan5979 lmao not every R179 has the same functions
Old trains are more reliable yes, but we have to update the system so we need new trains I guess the train company that made the r179 is slacking
The R46s used to be lemons when they first came out, but not anymore
The train company that built the R179s was Bombardier so they been slacking
@@supermarionathan1426
Supposedly they had problems with that manufacturer left and right. Late deliveries, cars sent back to company because of safety issues. They were not allowed to bid on the development of the R211 it was so bad.
I took the R179 Before And It Runs Better than the R42 and R32
The R179 Has door issues and more now all of them have been removed from active service
BlizSniper yeah they are well they better fixed the R179 fast because I want them back in service but I’ve never been on the R40 so I’m going to ride it before the R179 to go back in service
Jet Ng thanks for that we know that some trains can’t always last long I think it’s also the manufacturer and the design concept
welp an R179, we're dead. Also, lets hope the doors dont open between stations.
REDICULOUS! Bombardier needs to be sued for such late delivery of the cars and their ineffectiveness, period.
Well Bombardier just got bought by Alstom so that will be no more
ShortzYT Transit & Gaming Yes, Alstom is acquiring the transportation division of Bombardier.
Bruh the train is so broken lol,the train is camera shy lol, also nice catch of the r179 A train lol
179s suck for killing smees
Brown M Train Productions no u
Guys, before even commenting something related to "Its not a breakdown", read the description and you will happily find out :>
No wonder why the R179S were pulled from service. Man that's disappointing 😒
Sorry I'm late, but hey, they were also pulled from service for a little bit because of door problems....**YIKES**
@@TBF_1J because they are LEMONS 🍋🍋🍋 lol
wow I don’t remember a R179S did we move into the future or did you mean R179’s next time spell it right lol

The kid mocking the R179 horn at 1:12 😂
If he "didn't" want you to record, he still has to proceed anyway
T/O is calling for cops upstairs, hence the reason why he's honking not cause of a mechanical problem (change your video title)
exactly
This vid died
@@skrakaayyyyy_itzyostep oof
It’s Bombardier’s fault because they built the R179s and it has so many issues
Supermario Nathan that’s true the R179 has door issues and more Other crap about it which does not look good on the MTA and Bombardier’s behalf
R179 has A LOT OF PROBLEMS
There was something happening on the train and those honks were to get the attention of the police. You can see the plainclothes officer come to talk to the motorman at 2:55
Rip R179s. They have all been taken off the track’s because of door problems.
The way he was blowing the horn is to call for an RCI.
It was just the train lol Maybe it could have been him but he was just standing there in the middle of the cab
@@skrakaayyyyy_itzyostep Well, according to the rules, when a transit worker needs to call for a RCI, its long, short, long short on the horn. Police Assistance is 3 long horns. Maybe he has a very long reach. After all, there are two horn buttons on the console.
He is calling for police long and then short is for police
Oh maybe I was just super confused because it was dead the train itself lol
Bklynkid52 Long short long short = Cops
Long short = Signal maintainer
3 short = RCI
3 long = nothing.
It looks like 145th St finally got a renovation. About time.

Another reason why we love the R32 better
They are good trains to me tho.
Yeah I know but it's still old because I've taken them Before and the R32 Supposed to be Retired
@@douglaswells6679 They were supposed to retire decades ago.
Yeah I saw the News They Pulled them out to Check the Door Problem and I'm sure the J Has Some R160s Running and Sometimes they Borrow the R143 From the L line

That train was having a MENTAL breakdown not a mechanical breakdown
Guys, the horn means "help me", a long horn, and a short horn. I talked to a train operator.
Thanks for the Horn for OPENBVE lmao
welp you got R179 horn .mp3
That horn is for police wow I know the guy wouldn't know that because you know what do people know in this city but for those who do know it's not broke down he is calling for police
But what reason did they call the police for if the train was fine until that horn signaling
@@skrakaayyyyy_itzyostep who knows they didn't show it on cam but that's what the horn is for when it's doing it like that it's a call for police the mta nyct don't have radios to the transit police yet the system isn't up yet so they do it 2 ways 1 with the horn 2 with RCC
OWWW
edit: rip headphone users
now you have didn’t know that the comment was edited, now you checked.
the same thing happened to me yesterday on the E, after merging from 47th 50th streets, an M train stalled in front of it
Oh My God 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 I've never seen a train do that by itself b4
Whenever I wait for the A train on 168 the C train stops there too and it does that loud ass horn it be scaring the shit out of me sometimes lmao
if they break down for good ther MTA is gonna regret buying the R179s and should have sticked to the R160s or R32s
the train horn and the brakes scares the shit out of me!
RIP headphone users
This is why the R42s have returned to service.
Damn Those R42 Are getting too old
10-car R179 (A) vs 8-car R179 (C) at 145 St while 8-car R179 (C) broke down its doors are open
Man these R179 horns are LOUD
Facts
This is why R179s are total *LEMONS!!!!!!!*
That train was calling for help, no police responding happened in Canada an amtrak p42dc was blowing horn in quiet zone for help and because the train engine was stuck so someone called a other train engine which is a amtrak 90 came and towed p42dc
Hmm after riding the trains here in NYC all my life I never heard of that til now. So the motorman or motorwoman can activate the train horn to call for help? That's interesting! But I hope that the R179s get back into service soon. And the heat between Bombardier(The company that makes the R179) and The MTA would ease up. But til then we stick with the R32s and R42s. Overall good video!
Who did that train break down like that.
This is Why C Trains Have Door Problems
My name is Ian and I like this video.
That’s the operators code for the police trust me that happened to me when my cousin was operating the 4 line he had to switch the emergency horn to the on position
I initially thought it was the first R179 A train lol

That pop smoke in top shotta
I think I lost my hearing 😩 lol
the beginning was really funny
By mechanical breakdown I thought you meant there were break malfunctions
Mb. This vid is outdated and I should have changed the title last year.
Dam will you stop with the earape😂
😂😇
LOL HE HAS TO CHILL WITH THE HORN
These R179s Are Getting Retired For Good Too Much Problems
Is it even at the 8 car marker?
R179: HELP ME I BROKE DOWN
That train is having a mechanical break down.
The kid mimicking the horn @ 1:16. LOL
Okay so we know about the horn signals now
But why were people still getting on the train, and why were the passengers staying on the train? Granted it'd be impossible to use an Out of Service display on the front like with the R42's and the like, but surely they could have a display on the sides to tell people the train isn't working, right?
Okay nevermind, the train wasn't actually bricked...still, I can see another reason why they took all the R179's out of traffic and brought back their ancestors after a week of ditching them
TWO R179 TRAINS
DAMN this is crazy for trains
Damn.... Bombardier really shouldn’t build NO MORE cars after 3020-3049 and 3328-33xx like NO joke
Almost seems they’re blowing because they see you recording
It wasnt the case, it was an RCI Call apparently, but was coming from the 5th Car. The Train Operator didnt even press the horn according to the vid, it was the conductor
Wow the R179s breaking down again
Hol’ up, wait a minute, somethin’ ain’t right
My guy it green GOOOOOO
Edit: it broken

Long and short?
Sounds like an RCI holla.
Was anyone in the cab btw
It needs to be towed to Pitkin Yard to be repaired
Imagine a deaf person was there..
And I can hear the kid on the other platform copying the horn LMAO fas forward to 1:11
Well GTA 4 Predicted this
Always da lemonz
Yes and police do not know what the sound of the horn means
Lol. Probably calling for the police because the train is messed up
I mean it’s an R179 what do you expect
I Like The R179s But MTA Should Of Did "DOOR TESTING" While Doing Numerous Testing But MTA Would Not Do Smart Thing's For Stuff To Work Properly But I Want The MTA To Fix The "DOOR GLITCHING PROBLEM'S" And Make Sure The DOOR'S Don't Have Any Problem's!!! But I Hope This Problem Don't Happen To The R211s!!!
1.) My guy there are people commenting that the Long and Short horns is code for "Police, Help!"
2.) Did you not see the guy at the end coming to the Train Operator's window, that is a Transit Police
3.) These door glitches happened months after arrival
4.) The MTA is smart. They tested them before they were put in service first for a few weeks then did a testing service run for about 30 days to make sure they didn't have problems, but of course you were living under a rock when they were testing them
5.) This won't happen to the R211's because Bombardier aren't the ones building them, it is Kawasaki who have proven themselves to actually build good trains, they did it with the R62/A, R142A, R143, and R188. They are competent enough.
6.) The MTA quoted in a news conference that they have been speaking to Bombardier ever since Day 1 about issues that involved the R179 which was them being late.
7.) Stop always assuming that it is the MTA's fault because it isn't, you and pretty much every other person that assumes makes an ass out of yourself. (Expression, if you don't know, look it up)
Cameron Train kid yes I know but this isn’t a issue that involved the train, the operator called the police using the horns
The train is calling for help
Yep the MTA remove that train because the company send them somewhat of a warning about the defect but no explanation oh what could be causing it.
OOOOF
R179 🍋 Lemon Lol
Why was the train honked??? Sheesh.
Think of the honking as mores code.
2 R179 trains!!
you herd about the r179 subway cars they having door problems
Yep
The R179 needs help
And I never saw such a thing 🤔
It Be Like That Recording Shit
The only trains I like from bombardier is the r62A and the r68A
Bombardier didn't make the R68A, Kawasaki did, along with the R62s. Westington Amrail made the R68s, which we barley know about lol
