      It really is not that bad. Break it down into step. Remove the wrap handle. Then remove the rear handle. Then you are not far from being able to remove the cylinder.

    I use the MS290 for 90% of my tree jobs......parts are beyond Dirt cheap, and everywhere. Larger saws are nice, until parts break, then you're screwed, it can be impossible to find things during certain times of the season on ebay or stores! Don't underestimate the 290 with a NEW chain.....cuts So crazy easy.

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  6 лет назад

      The 290 is an economical saw to run and repair. When something happens to them most people throw them out.

      I never struggle to find parts for a pro saw. You need better sources. Home owner saws are shit to work on. Pro saw I can fix on the job with a few tools.

    You're kidding, right? I don't think I can do it even if I mark where each part and bolt goes using egg cartons. I will just take mine down to Stihl store for repair. Maybe just sell it for parts and buy a new other model. Thumbs up for having quality tools and being a professional at what you do.

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  3 года назад

      Thanks! Honestly, these saws are not worth taking to the dealer for a major repair. It would cost far more than what the saw is worth. The only way they are worth it is if you use aftermarket parts and do it yourself. If you have one that needs major work, someone will still buy it.

    Just bought a 029 super in mint condition, looks like it only ever hit one l Iog, but runs great , im just a firewood cutter this year in this house we went thru 10-15 cords of wood , would you recommend this swap? Or should i kill this motor first ? I do cut some big logs and been happy with the saws performance, but we bought this house and only has stove and fireplaces for heat , dont plan on going anywhere so will be here awhile , in your opion would it be worth cutting thru quicker and saving some saw time ?

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  6 лет назад

      I'd run it with that cylinder. The aftermarket cylinders are not as high of a quality as what an OEM cylinder is. I'd do a muffler mod and nylon mesh filter to it and run it. Here are videos on the muffler and filter. ruclips.net/video/REKjVUxauXQ/видео.html ruclips.net/video/MFUQnlrM4ms/видео.html If you want to do this swap look around for a saw that needs a cylinder.

    Why did you remove the grease in the bearing? Any specific reason?

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  6 лет назад

      Are you talking about the grease in the sealed bearing for the crank bearing? I removed it so gas/oil mix could lubricate it and so the grease would not be floating throw the engine.

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  4 года назад +2

      You need a 19mm socket. I use an air impact. You need to turn it clockwise to loosen it. If you don't have an impact, remove the spark plug and put some crank rope down in the cylinder to keep the piston from turning. Then you can use a ratchet.
