    Thanks for the video. If you go to all that work, clean the plastic housing as well.

      Your welcome. I was in a hurry to get it together and the saw is not that good of a looking saw so I did not bother to clean it much. I did another saw that was mint and I took time to clean it.

    Thanks for the video! I’m getting ready for my second attempt at this. I think I have a vacuum leak. The saw runs wide open no matter how I adjust the carb.

      Take the air filter off and make sure the throttle plate is closed. If it it is, you have an air leak.

    When you removed the grease from bearing did you repack with grease before installing. Also do you put the seal back on both sides of bearing or just one

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  5 лет назад +3

      The bearings do not need grease. Your gas oil mix keeps them lubbed. You don't seals in the bearings, just the factory style seal on the outside.

    Doing an 029 project right now. Have to put a new motor in. Read that I can throw the 49mm 039 motor right in. Think that’s what I’m going to do if that’s possible.

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  4 года назад +1

      An 039 engine is the only way to go on one of these saws.

      Tractor Tech I got a meteor 49mm on the way. Going to be a nice saw when I’m done. Thanks

    I'm surprised you didn't port and polish while you had it all apart..

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  5 лет назад

      I was in a hurry to get it together. I may tear it apart sometime and try to port it.

    is that gasket maker on the lower case what is considered a base gasket mod?

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  3 года назад

      These saws don't use a base gasket from the factory. They use sealer. The squish is not easily adjustable on these saws. The saw can not be a clamshell design if you want to do a base gasket delete.

    How did this saw hold up?? getting ready to do this myself

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  4 года назад

      Good with run run time it has. The cylinder was very close to OEM quality.

    did you put the seals back in the bearings?

    What did you use to lube the piston?

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  5 лет назад

      I use SAE 30 engine oil as an assembly lube. Some old saws call for mixing SAE 30 oil for you gas oil mix. I just use SAE 30 for assembly, and a lot of it. You can also use 2 cylce oil for assembly.

    How does the pan come out of the housing?

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  4 года назад +1

      There are 4 screws that run up through the bottom of the saw through the pan and into the cylinder.

    • @toddbrewer7364
      @toddbrewer7364 4 года назад

      @@TractorTech I got those. Does the pan come out of a MS291?

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  4 года назад

      I have not worked on a 291. I know they are a completely different saw. By looking at a part diagram it appears the cylinder bolts to the plastic case. It does not look like there is a pan like on a 290. www.diyspareparts.com/parts/stihl/diagrams/ms291/021790eb-e198-4a60-9e1b/

    What do you think of meteor piston and cylinder kits

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  6 лет назад +1

      +Oisin Hayse I've never used one. I like that the come with Caber rings. I've heard in terms of quality they are the closest to OEM. I heard the meteor cylinder for a 390 is not a good performer. This Cross cylinder looked very nice, near OEM in quality.

      94BULLITT im going to turn a black top husqvarna 61 into a 272xp using meteor

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  6 лет назад +1

      Oisin Hayse Did you check with the dealer on a cylinder? Sometimes the Husqvarna cylinders are the same price as the AM cylinders. The meteor cylinder is still a good way to go.

    • @oisinhayes8761
      @oisinhayes8761 6 лет назад

      94BULLITT at the moment in ireland their outrageously priced it would nearly be cheaper to buy a new husqvarna chainsaw than it would be to a oem piston and cylinder kit which is a bit of a joke

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  6 лет назад +1

      The popular cylinders in the US are usually around $100. I got a 346 cylinder for $105. A cylinder for Stihl from the dealer is $250.
