When I made mine, I used 3/16 plywood, 4 pieces each 12 inch square. Sprayed them with 3m 77 glue and placed ripstop nylon over them to form one 2 foot by 2 foot board. Then made the same cuts as you did. I opted to us e the plywood instead of the foam core because of the foam core being so light. Even with the added weight of the plywood I have to be careful that the prop wash from my phantom vision or 250 racing drone do not lift the sides when landing. The air went under and lifted the whole pad and moved it 2 feet over one time. I like it for staging and taking off and quick landings with the racing drone ( no hovering ).
Thank you for you videos, they are my encyclopedia/wiki of RC.
    Happy Halloween!

nice video landing & take off pad is very important and often overlooked. I learned the hard way with take off in grass only for one propeller to catch the grass flipping over my quad burning out escs. I now use my tablet to take off and land but will have to build one of these.

This would be ideal for a dji Mavic where it uses a downward facing camera to record its take-off location and uses it to refine the exact landing spot for RTH.

Thats cool made like I cover foam board for airplanes . My smallest drone is the Phantom I have a panel that came from a car dealership plastic with aluminum on both sides . I drilled holes and ran paracord through the holes to tie the legs down for riding in back of my truck . It does make a big difference in parking lots to keep down the dust and helps with long grass also . Would be nice if it folded like yours .

You could take a monopoly board as they fold out like your pad!

Great idea if you could make a self-leveling 1 acre square to fold into a pocket, it would be an easy hit for sure in good ole Devon.!!

Off topic. I Just put a new ESC on my quad after last one blown. thought I test the ESC without THINKING. The ESC was in contract with the frame. No smoke or bang but the lights went out on my naze32. I've killed it :-( well at least that what I believe happened. Guess I know for sure when I buy my new one which brings be on to my question. what is the best flight controller for my 215 quad that is current and most used at moment. spend so much time one step behind as new ones and types are popping up daily.

I'd go for a SP3 based flight controller. Loads to choose from there at the moment too. I use mainly Seriously Pro boards but others really like things like the Dodo and KISS flight controllers. Depends if you're wedded to Clean/Betaflight..
