Yeeeeesssss love the old skate video vibes! Totally agree with the whole 'leaning into it' thing, had a similar experience with the Laowa 12mm, although not necessarily as extreme as there's minimal distortion, but when it clicks some of the super wide stuff you can get is wild. Lovely vid man!!
There are some Lumix shots in this vid, but maybe yes! Not sure what difference it would show given that a number of these shots are with the speed booster, so the same field of view as on the LUMIX S5
@@EdProsser on full frame it covers a circular image of 180° and on APSC it is almost a full frame. It has a lot of character. I use it on 35mm, 16mm as well as on the S5 sometimes.
@@Alex-CPopa thanks for the tip! I'm enjoying playing around with these crazy wide angles, definitely forces you to think a little diff and not shoot on auto pilot
My heart cries each time I see people lens correcting a fisheye. Also if you want more fisheye get the samyang/wallimex/rokinon 8mm Or ideal case canon 8-15 with a speedboster for crop sensor First choice is the cheap one prolly not as shap in the corners
Haha I agree! Just wanted to show it can be done in case people wana shoot on a crop sensor and use it more as a standard wide without distortion (i.e. Get more use out of it). Most of the 8mms are for cropped sensors so they're a similar FOV to an 11mm. Wondering if there's anything wider for FF coverage?
Would running this lens on my s5ii in 4k60 meaning the crop factor, would that work and bring it up to around 16mm - 17mm focal length? As im looking for a real estate lens to film in 4k60 with its crop factor.
@@EdProsser My mistake! Looking back at a few filmers doing Nike's Debacle (first full HD skate video) they used the Rokinon 8mm T3.8 Cine, which is for crop sensor. Those are everywhere for less than $200. They also used the rokinon 14mm (which is FF). My current on the go all around bag is the 11mm artisan, 35mm, 85mm, and 135mm all on the a7riv. Love the 11mm artisan especially with the IBIS.
Interesting - does it play well with the IBIS? On my LUMIX S5 iiX I find anything below 35mm + IBIS produces a lot of warping, I tend to disable it. I guess 11mm is probably the limit for FF focal lengths
Still don't understand why would someone shoot with a Fisheye and correct it. You usually shoot FE for the distortion so it doesn't make any sense to me... Great Video by the way.
@@EdProsser I don’t really understand about cameras and lenses, so what do you mean with “EF” and “E”? It is a present for a friend who owns a sony fx3 and I don’t know if that TTArtisan will be compatible. I’m sorry for the questions, but thank you so much :)
That's no problem! So every camera brand has its own lens mount, it's like the attachment that the camera has for the lens. So lenses come in different versions for a specific camera brand. For Sony cams you want to get the lens with an "E-mount" so it'll attach to the Sony FX3. The EF-Mount is an older Canon mount, but it can generally be used on most modern cameras with an extra adapter. So if you own multiple cameras from diff brands (with diff lens mounts) that's usually a good choice.
I don’t get why people freak out about noise. Close your eyes or stare at any dark wall with your own eyes and you’ll see noise. All sorts of messy noise. I personally dislike footage with no noise or grain as it feels clinical and unnatural. It’s like dialogue with no ambience.
@@eifionjones8513 i ask about it cause i watch a clip about a lens ... i dont freak out , i just considered buying it so i want to get as much info as possible
I love the confliction of "trying to use an unprofessionally wide lens..... professionally". Looked like a fun time.
It took me a while to fall in love with it...but testing it out with the skateboarding got me there!
Ed, that was the best opening shot on any RUclips vid ever! 😂😂😂 You nailed it when you said this is a lens you have to lean into. Nice work mate 😊
I had sprinkled that shot throughout the vid but it was getting too weird so had to pull back a bit 🤣🫠

Yeah I've seen the 12mm would love to try it at some point! Also the new 12mm vespid.
@@EdProsser Yessss really intruiged by the Vespid too!
Came across your videos since I started looking for more info on the L mount. Your cinematography and colors are freaking fantastic.
I appreciate the kind words!
Love a fish eye! Great review, shocked at how inexpensive it is!
Yeah it's fantastic for the price!
Amazing! I see no wobble caused by the stabilization, have you turn it off?
A lot of this was on Komodo but yes on the S5 iiX shots the stabilization was off! Always turn it off below 40mm
can you make a video using this lens with the Lumix 5s too?
There are some Lumix shots in this vid, but maybe yes! Not sure what difference it would show given that a number of these shots are with the speed booster, so the same field of view as on the LUMIX S5
Probably going with this because the LAOWA L mount is just as pricey as other other mounts without having autofocus.
Sick visuals 🔥
Thanks! Have you tried the lens?
Is most of the footage shot with the fish eye in this video on full frame? making it around 17mm or is this 11mm on apsc? Great video
Looks great, another budget alternative could be the Peleng 8mm comes in EF and M42 I think. It has some interesting funk to it
I will need to check it out, is it FF? There are a few 8mm out there but they're S35 lenses which kinda gets you back to 11mm on crop sensor

Great video, could you explain the speedbooster use? Is it an RF to EF speedbooster, and then an EF mount lens? Thank you!
Lens is EF, goes on EF to RF speed booster. So you get the full frame equivalent of the lens on a super 35 sensor! Gets you wider

im trynna get this lens or the Venus Optics Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D for Sony E.....! Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I've not used one, but I'm guessing it has zero distortion so won't be as funky as a fish eye?
OMG that intro

it;s such a fun lens!
Yes! But literally I was close to sending it back because I was struggling to work with it.
