thank you, this has been super helpful :) engineering seems v hectic so im kinda worried. i start in fall 2021, hopefully classes will be in-person by then
I’m glad it was helpful! Yeah it can get pretty hectic but I think it was a good experience. Yeah fingers crossed that classes are in person next year! 🤞🏽
Cool video man but consider working on your audio balance, your voice is pretty soft when compared to the intros/transition so I have to fiddle with the volume a lot. But overall loved the video!
Just stumbled upon this video! As someone who just finished first year at UBC for eng I recognized some people! Enjoyed the video, and would just like to say, none of us really understood 158 either!
Ayy that’s awesome man hope it brought back some of the (idk if good) memories of phys 158! Haha it’s good to know we weren’t the only ones struggling with 158, it was brutal.
I had a question regarding the textbooks at UBC. So I will be starting my UBC journey soon and like saw the estimated prices of the textbooks and they are a bit pricey also because I am doing a double major. Hence wanted to know if a student can like get a hand me down textbook from people and if so then from where?
Super helpful video dawg, I been trynna decide between UofT and UBC eng, and I've heard UofT has zero social life so I'm leaning towards UBC. How are the Co-op opportunities, and is it easy to find placements?
Hey glad it helped! Co-op program is really good as they have access to a lot of job boards, but its not guaranteed to get a spot, but if you've worked any job before and have above 65% average in first year you're likely to get in. To find jobs afterwards is up to you and your skills for the internship requirements, but you do have access to jobs that are only on the co-op board which means less competition so it's beneficial.
Glad you enjoyed it! I’m currently majoring in biomedical engineering, but haven’t specialized into a certain stream yet. I have seen people from Latin America and there are probably many on campus that I haven’t met yet!
This man is gonna be solving equations and stealing my girl! But forreal how many hours of class did you have a week and how many hours of studying? Btw great video
Lmaooo my boy Tolu might. It was usually 25 hours a week for classes tutorials and labs, but sometimes there was an extra lab so an extra 3 hours. And usually studying took up most of the day for me when I wasn’t in class, so I’m not too sure but it could’ve been 20-35 hours a week depending on the workload for that week.
Hi Gaurab! Thank you so much for making this vid! Im in Gr 12 and got admitted to eng at ubc and noticed that you’re in BME. I’m also interested in BME so i have a couple questions if that’s okay. What are the common first-year averages to get admitted to BME second year? If you took the PBME timetable, what was it like and do you recommend it? Thanks so much again!
Hey glad the video was helpful! Congrats on getting in as well! Since bme is a new program the average varies depending on the year tbh. I think people with a mid-high 60 average got in for my year as they added more seats. The average was probably low-mid 70’s, but I’m not fully sure. And I didn’t take the PBME timetable, but I highly recommend it if you are interested in BME. You take the required courses for other eng programs and BME so in second year summer you don’t have to catch up on Chem courses if you get into BME (my current situation). Plus you get extra exposure to BME labs in first year. Hope this helped!
Gaurab Acharya Thanks so much for responding! I’m really interested in BME but i’m just a bit worried abt this program not being accredited yet. Do you have any information about the likelihood abt BME being accredited. Any information would be much appreciated :) tysm again!!
@@Em-is3fr yeah the program is currently in the process of being evaluated. The faculty are saying it’s looking positive to being accredited soon I believe by this year hopefully!
Gabriel Avelar yeahh I know there’s very few ppl in integrated engineering at ubc that are sort of forming their degree to be aerospace engineering but I know UofT has an aeronautical engineering program!
Hi thanks for watching! I went to high school in Vancouver Canada took mainly science courses physics Chem bio etc. we don’t have a +2 so I’m assuming grade 12? I had a 93% average for grade 12. Currently in biomedical engineering!
Before the first day of classes I was intimidated as well about how I was going to make friends, but I just introduced myself to ppl sitting next to me in lectures, labs, and tutorials. Slowly as you see more ppl you’ll connect with some ppl better than others and you will hang out after a lecture or something like that and a friendship can be built like that. Biggest thing is being open to say hi and introduce yourself.
@@gaurabacharya4313 okk tysmm. Another question: would you say first year is extremely competitive? I heard getting into any decent program is like getting into Harvard. What average would you say the typical first year student has? I just got accepted and I want to go into computer engineering
@@Conyieie yeah I would say getting into a program like CPEN is competitive I would say aim to have an average 80% and above to be able to apply to the competitive programs I know friends that had 83% averages get into Mech, CPEN, and like mid to high 80’s in Eng phys. Try your best and the acceptance depends year to year also. There are some anomaly’s that have lower averages so don’t be afraid to pursue it!
haha that math question was just the intro for matrices for linear algebra so it got harder for the next questions. The Physics lecture clicker questions are easy it was just about resistance in AC circuits, so you've probably done it before LOL. Exams and other assignments go deeper though.
