I really wish Titleist would've gone with the brushed satin look found on the T100 and T150 vs the shinier, chromed-out look found on the T200 and T350. I got to try them both during a special event fitting and decided on the P790's. The difference in performance was fairly minimal. It all came down to my preference with the look, sound, feel.
I got a combo set of the t150 and t200. But I completely agree that I wish they were satin as opposed to chrome. Fortunately, at address you can’t see the chrome as much and they do look quite similar to the t150s
Yeah, I don’t like the look either. But, a similar finish on my APs is extremely durable. Holds up well to bag chatter, dings and sand abrasion. Looks great after 7 yrs.
After a club fitting and testing, I purchased a set of P790's with graphite shafts, regular flex and 2 degrees flat. Paired this with Taylormade Soft Response Golf Balls for a really good match. I'm 69, and 5'6". Love the clubs. Great sound and yes, the launch angle is noticeably higher, to the point that I have actually had 6 and 7 irons back up when they hit the green. Distance is pretty good considering my age and stature, wish I had owned these back in the 90's when I was playing really good golf... Great review, excellent information. This is the type of review that should be available to purchasers all the time. don
I tested both last week in a fitting session and ordered the T200s based on looks and feel. The performance was the same for me. I spin the ball high with my irons, so we had to bend the set 2 degrees strong to find the perfect distance and flight window.
P790 for me, coming off Mizuno MP18's I gained yardage and dispersion was tighter. They do launch super high, but you can flight them down easily if you want too, at least I could.
My son just got fitted and found the Mizuno 225 superior to both with respect to dispersion , feel and sound. It was slightly shorter than the 790 but less than 5 yards with a 7 iron. It was an easy decision for him.
P790s all the way! Just got fitted for them. Absolutely amazing! Love my Apex 21s but the DARKSIDE has stolen my heart! Had the 790(17)s and the (19)... then went to the 21s .. the TM P790s(23) are definitely a step up!
Just ordered a set of t200 irons. Had callaway cf16 for last 6 years. I’m 48 years old and noticed loss of height/distance recently and got it back with testing of the t200’s. Got fitted with a TT AMT red shaft which I hope will see me maintain shot height etc well into my fifties Can’t wait to take delivery
P790s for me, got fitted 2% flat, 105 gram shafts. I picked these clubs specifically since I was looking for higher launch, which is something I struggle with. Great review!
I currently play the 718-AP3 (Titleist) and took my 7 iron in to compare with the new T200. Kept the shafts the same (S300). T200 gave me 12 yards more distance with a thinner looking top line and a lighter feel. Just have to decide if 12 yards is worth the cash. Looked at the P790 too but I prefer the thinner top line of the T200.
Tried both these irons during fitting session last week. Opted for neither, went instead with the Titliest T150's. Always been a Mizuno iron player up until now. T150's are beautiful irons with superb feedback.
@@toddschlicher hi mate transition has been good dispersion far narrower and now feel when I hit good or bad shot, loved the stealths but always felt they were a bit vague , 790”s feel better and I can tell where I’m going wrong , started to hit a lot more greens consistently. I play off 12 so had hoped the change would assist my game and so far so good
@@paulmiddlemass8106 Thank you for the reply. I have a fitting set up for next Saturday. We are around the same handicap so I’m hoping for similar results. Looking for more feel than I get with the Stealth irons.
Seems like I am similar to the man playing Mizunos you mentioned. Last week I tested the Titleist 32 degree T150 and 30.5 degree T200 7 irons with the 94.5 gram Nippon NS Pro 950GH R flex shafts, against my solid forged blade 7 with traditional 34 degree loft (Chicago Classics, very similar to Mizuno MP33) and 87.5 gram Nippon NS Pro Zelos 8 stiff shaft. Got great results from both, 6 to 8 more carry with pretty much the same launch angle, height, spin and descent angle. Got about the same results from the T150 as the T200 but that is probably due to me rather than the club since at my skill level I cannot consistently repeat my best swing. But it seems clear Titleist has engineered these clubs so that stronger lofts do not sacrifice stopping ability. Big feature of the T200 is the rear cap is now solid and metallic, not the plastic one of the prior model that really looked and felt cheap. Will give the new 790 a test, looks like they have done some sophisticated internal engineering of each club. But the thicker topline leads me to favor the Titleist. Budget as always is a major issue. Love forged blades, have played Mizunos and my present ones for years. But I have to admit at my age, 82, getting my 7 iron carry up to 141 yds from 133 while retaining spin, height and descent angle would probably lead me to finally change.
I’ve just gone for a club fitting and nailed it down to these two brands. Titleist in my option sound and look better but also look a little bit intimidating n terms of compact size.. At address I’m more comfortable with the p790. Both super forgiving. I’m gonna sleep on it and go for another hit with them soon before I make my final decision. Both clubs feel great and perform roughly the same. Both were tested in 7 iron. Cheers george
I'm in the iron market for this upcoming season in 24 season in Michigan. I've been heavily leaning to the P790's. I hadn't considered the T200 until this video. I'll have to hit them before making my purchase. I do prefer the look of the P790's.
Just got fit and bought the new P790s. I tried the new T200, but for me, I was getting poorer results in terms of lower spin and lower descent angle. Both great clubs though
I have been a P790 player for 4 years. I can’t belie I switched to the T200 but, I also could not be happier. I have better control and love the sound they make. I do fell like they are heavier then my P790s but not as heave as the Callaways. They are right in the middle of the two.
I am currently gaming the TaylorMade Sim irons. Tried the Stealth, didn’t like them, the T350 felt a little harsh and I am going in next week for a PXG Gen 6 fitting. Excited to see what new irons I will end up going with, I am a 11 handicap right now.
Paradymx is nice but there's so much offset and such a strong loft. You have to have a great launch angle yourself to make them hold the green as they're distance irons with less spin and much further overall distance. I opted for 790s over paradym because grabbing the paradyms would make me restructure my entire bag
I got fitted for new irons last week and decided to go with a split set of Titleist T-200 7i -pw and T-350 4i -6i. I also tested the P790 irons, along with Ping i525, Srixon zx5, Mizuno JPX923, and Honma TR21X. I tested all with the same shaft - LA Golf A Series - Mid - 85 Iron 3(R) Flex. Head to head, for my swing, the Titleist numbers were far superior to the Taylormade numbers. It looked like on your video, you were hitting the shots off a raised spot on your mat, like a small tee? I tested all the irons straight from a regular mat as well as bushy turf and a small tee. I struggled to get the 790 through the turf for some reason, felt like the heel dragged through the turf and my dispersion was all over the place with the 790. The T-200 was amazing on launch and very tight dispersion. Decided to add the T-350s as my longer irons… OMG… 🚀… yes they have a stronger loft, but I was amazed that they had the same height and landing angles as the T-200s. My typical carry distance for my current six iron (916 AP1) is 165. For the the TM790, I averaged 158 carry, T-200, 172 carry, and for the T-350, 184 yards carry. I was also getting 20 feet more height with the Titleist irons over the 790 6i.
I think a better test might be P770 vs T200? If I recall the P770 vs P790 is literally the exact same though besides a more players looking club. The T200 looks more like a players distance, much like the P770. The P790 just looks fatter, like it's more of a game improvement iron. But, the new P770 hasn't come out yet (assuming there is a new one coming?). Anywho, love the videos! I got a Mezz putter and I'm addicted. Thanks for helping me in making that decision!
Love the look of titelist. Used to play CB690 when I was young (I'm over 70) but lost accuracy (and some power) thru the years and had to retire them 10 yrs ago. These new clubs bring back incredible nostalgia and I'm very tempted to buy blended set of 350 and 200.
