- After being abandoned by his mother and suffering abuse in the foster system, Malachi Coleman and his sister were adopted by a loving family, but so much damage had been done, Malachi found it difficult to be kind to others, until the simple act of holding a door open sparked a passion for selflessness. Correspondent Steve Hartman reports.

His mother abandoning him on the side of the road made him feel useless and worthless. Opening doors for people and hearing “Thank You” made him regain a sense of purpose.
Imagine how much despair a woman must be in to leave her two babies abandoned on the sidewalk?😭😭 So glad Malachi and his sister are flourishing with a loving family and with a purpose in life, born out of the trauma he experienced so young ❤️😭🥺
Kindness never goes ouit of style. I admire the character of this young man.

OPEN DOORS
She asked one thing, to hold doors open.
Hoped it would lead to kind words spoken.
Just one kind act, hold open a door.
Kind toward him had not been shown before.
She needed for him to learn to trust.
Her loves embrace would be a must.
Neglect for him, at his young life's core.
But now she lead him to reach for more.
Kind woman you see was not his mother.
Skin next to skin, not the same color.
He was a young man selfish and cruel.
Thought kind was weak, only for fools.
Smiles and thanks, would come from who entered.
Pleasure he felt born from his mentor.
One day Good deeds he had come to crave.
For in these acts his own soul he saved.
He had put up walls to ensure no more loss.
Her lessons in love showed what that would cost.
Tore down his walls and opened doors wide.
No place for indifference to hide.
He was graced with the gift of good deeds.
Showed him kindness and where it could lead.
Folks embrace him they now know his name.
Promise kept, he will not be the same.
