I had absolutely no pre labour signs and had a completely normal day with baby prepping and just chilling, went to sleep at 10.50pm, woke up at 11.05pm to my water breaking! Afterwards I looked through my pictures on my phone and realised that one of our dogs had actually foreseen what was about to happen. Around 10pm I had taken a picture of him cause I thought he was being silly sitting right infront of me for a long time and obsessing. He knew ;)

I’m 35 weeks with my first, and while I know every birth experience is different based on a variety of factors this has really calmed me down in terms of fear of labor, and given me some great laughs - thank you Shayla!

Congrats on your new baby! You are so right about those pre labor "signs". I kept telling my husband that we'll know before I go into labor. Nope! I went to sleep, woke to my water breaking. Also so right about dilation checks. Went to the hospital 1/2 cent dilated. 4 hours later I was at 6 centimeters with hypnobirthing. For all the expecting mothers, fear and stress only holds you back!! Good luck momma's!

I agree!! I planned a home birth but ended up having a hospital birth (after my midwife was overly cautious of my elevated heartbeat at my 40wk appointment). I had a heartbeat close to 150 but through my breathing techniques brought it down literally to 116.. my midwife was blown away! I continued everything I learned from hypnobirthing and went from 3cm to 9cm in an hour! Everyone including myself was so shocked. The key was absolute relaxation 👌✨

TW: difficult labor and post care. Healthy baby. My situation is not a normal thing.
I had a 54 hour homebirth. 8 hours of pushing. Baby was never in distress. He did great! Double wrapped neck and body cord. I hemorrhaged and lost roughly a third of my blood. Had a second degree tear.
My pelvic floor was traumatized. I couldn’t go to my baby’s first week appointment because of the trauma. It took me 4-5 weeks to walk without feeling like my uterus would fall out. Eventually I went to a pelvic floor therapist. 8 months later my pelvic floor feels back to normal. Highly recommend

I was watching all Shayla stuff whilst being pregnant. I am so happy for her positive birth experiences and I followed a lot of advice. I was supper stoked on hypnobabies, and was hoping to go through this whole gentle let the surges come over you and breathe the baby out.. but when contractions started, they started hard and fast straight away. Within 20 mins I was at the hospital begging for an epidural, it was no surges but the pain I could never have possibly imagined.
My midwife let me push in all sorts of positions even with the epidural (side lying, all fours on the ball etc..), I was trying to breathe her down but whatever I did, the midwife kept seeing the baby come closer and bouce right back like a yo-yo. Eventually the baby went in distress, I was told to go on my back and purple push, which is what i did. The baby turned out to be big (4kg), I had first degree tears, which healed completely in 6 weeks, honestly I feel absolutely no difference in that area compared to before birth. The tears was my biggest fear, thats why I was so set on trying all the gentle pushing etc...
I am sharing this, for anyone who has the same fears. Things can turn out just fine even if your birth doesn't go to plan.

Hi Shayla! Thanks for sharing your story. I know this video is now several months old. But I wanted to say to trust your instincts. I went in twice because I thought my water broke, like a trickle. Both times they said it didn't. The second time was on a Friday at my 40 week appointment and my OB said my amniotic fluid was on the lower side of the range. By the time I went in for my NST that Monday, my amniotic fluid was dangerously low and I had to be admitted and started inducing. Sooooo...I'm sure you did not pee yourself.

This was fun to watch. Honestly I don’t like hearing ppls birth stories. I feel like ppl are so dramatic and exaggerate (I mean, not to minimize birth) but like, I think women like to tell you what they survived.
You kept it real and said it as it is which I appreciate.
My first birth was at home 2 years ago with my son (I also used hypnobabies) and now I’m 6 months pregnant with my second (doing another home birth ) and am debating using hypnobabies again.
I think the program helped with being calm and present but it didn’t help at all for me with pain and I’d like to try to get into a space this time where I can really be calm and relaxed so the pain is much more tolerable. Problem I’m having is that I thought the hupnobabies meditation tracks got so annoying so I’m looking around for something else cause I know I need to get started soon with preparation.
This video is making rethink doing hypnobabies again , mainly cause I don’t have another great alternative, but ya, thank you for posting your story.

@@heyshayla I tried reading it during my last pregnancy.. I just don’t have patience lol . I’m not so scared to be honest I just want a program that can get me into a headspace that is more relaxed than I was during my first that’s all. I make it sound like I was freaking out during the birth but I totally wasn’t. I just read beforehand about ppl being so relaxed they didn’t feel anything and that’s just too cool, I wanna attempt that.
You didn’t find hypnobabies annoying at all? Like I don’t mind meditation tracks but I think hypnobabies is just so dragged on… I don’t know. I’m prob going to just do it again lol

You crack me up, "like a giraffe " ☠️😂. I had my first 8 months ago, didn't do hypnobirthing but had a very calm minded experience. Got to the hospital at 8cm so they wouldn't do an epidural (which I didn't want anyway but if I would have had the option at the time I may have caved). Pushed for 4 hours with slow progression, I was so exhausted from pushing and being in labour for over 48h I asked if they could help me in anyway so they used the vacuum. All in all I loved my birth experience and so happy with my little girl.

"im gonna poop" holy cow does no one tell you how you feel like you are gonna poop yourself for a couple hours and you can't push until baby is ready, like that is so hard. Amazing birth story. Love your content

Loved this video so much! I’m currently 36 weeks with our first babe and he’s breech, so I’ve been trying all the spinning babies techniques. I’m trying to keep positive that he’ll flip and we can avoid a c-section. I can’t describe how much I want to experience a natural birth now that the opportunity might be taken away. Your birth story and the capturing of it was so beautiful! I love her name by the way!

You can ask your provider to flip your baby manually if the spinning babies doesn’t work. I didn’t have this done but I’ve heard it’s uncomfortable but it could keep you from needing a C-section.

Also see a Webster certified chiropractor, there may be tightness or misalignment in your pelvis or ligaments preventing you baby from flipping around.

My second baby was breech from 30 weeks onward and I tried everything to get baby to flip. Unfortunately he didn’t and I had to have a C-section. I just wanted you to know that if that happens for you everything will be fine! It wasn’t the birth I had hoped for but my son got here safe and sound and after it was all said and done things worked out for the best. The recovery was different than my vaginal birth but I didn’t feel let down or super disappointed afterwards like I thought I would.

I've watched both of your birth stories, super helpful for me as a first-time mom. I will definitely be looking into doing hypnobirthing! Also, my midwife recommends to start taking citrus bioflavonoids at 20 weeks to maintain the integrity of the amniotic sac so your water breaks when you're ready to push. Congratulations on your little Esme!

I was actually telling my mom about you lol. I been the black sheep of the family with my holistic approach on life. But to the main point - so I actually worked at a pediatric office when I was like 21/22, so I already know the baby’s provider. But I would love to get insight in your delayed vaccine schedule. I know im not the only parent he sees that does/did this, but its been so long ago I don’t remember how they did it. I look forward to you sharing that. If u have already my bad just lemme know where 😄

I just had my second little girl 8 weeks ago. Home birth, all natural but intense as she needed to turn during contractions- we had done spinning babies for weeks before but no joy! Post Partum is so different second time around 💫 tandem feeding newborn and 18 month old and all great so far.
Would love to see a video on your sleep training 👌

So glad you’re back! I’ve been watching you throughout my pregnancy and birth. My L/O, Alton, is 3 months now. I had a natural birth at home and when I started my hypnobabies (inspired by Shayla), I was so relaxed that it slowed down my labor, lol, and I had to use a breast pump to get the contractions back up and progressing. According to the doula that’s not a common occurrence. We didn’t end up using the tub we rented either for fear it would also slow labor. It was a huge bummer but I didn’t want to wear myself out.

I was laughing so hard at some of your commentary on your birth experience! I did hypnobabies and also birthed in the tub and loved it. My husband wanted in the tub, wanted to pull out the baby, all the stuff and I was also like “ew”, but I did let him. 😂 He put a go pro above us though and it is so cool to be able to rewatch your birth and be like “wait, I did all that?!” Anyways, I am so glad your postpartum is going well! Hope you and your new addition are doing great!

Wow! Mazal tov on your sweet little Esme, Shayla!
Tomorrow will be 6 weeks since my little girl was born. Second child and just like you said, the postpartum experience has been night and day different. My husband is a doctor, so even though I was raised fairly crunchy and have had aspirations of more natural home births, both my babies were delivered in the hospital to the tune of my husband worrying about this one study that says inducing at 39 weeks is most optimal for baby and mom. Both were born at 40 weeks exactly, and I used Hypnobirthing techniques for both, but this time around, I was more proactive about doing things to soften the cervix (dates and raspberry leaf tea) and to encourage labor (like the miles curcuit). I did slack off on reviewing the hypnobirthing audio tracks and wish i had because i believe i could have had no epidural this time around if I had been more prepared.
I had my first contraction at 6:38 am and she was born at 6:43pm.
I had this book called The Mommy Plan which goes into detail about a ton of things to keep in mind to help encourage the postpartum body to recuperate and heal. My desert born self horribly loathes humidity, but I nonetheless kept the ceiling fan off in my room and stayed away from ac vents for the first 2 weeks. For those first 2 weeks, I also didn't eat or drink anything cooler than lukewarm and I put myself on voluntary, almost near bed rest (which I'm super grateful my parents and 2 siblings arrived a few days before the birth and are still here. Their help has been critical in allowing me to trying rest and recoup despite now having 2 under 2). And I have to say, at 2 weeks postpartum this time, I felt better than I did about 7 or 8 weeks postpartum last time O_o Nursing this time around has also been much better, and stitches care/hygiene and pain management has been easier this time since I understood better what time expect.
Anywho, Mazal tov to all the other people here on the chat that I'm seeing have also recently had babies!

I’d love to hear about how the sleep training went and what that involved. And if you have, I don’t remember whether you said or not, how you transitioned her out of your bed. (Beginning to transfer ours this week 🤞🏻)

      Sleep video coming soon!
When she was little I’d always put her in her bed for cribs and the start of the night.
Then when our second was born she got sick and Seth would lay with her in her bed when she would get up which stopped her from coming in ours 🤷‍♀️
