I had 4 babies (all back labor, 9+ lbs., all natural) and l never had that mushy gushy “I’m in love” moment as soon as they were born. I was too exhausted to appreciate what just happened. It took months, maybe a year to get over the trauma of my first birth and really love my baby. He’s 39 now and I kinda like him.

I appreciate this so much. You sound like my mom, who I know loves me endlessly…but she just kind of likes me 😂😂 but I mostly appreciate the honestly with the exhaustion and not having an immediate love. Birth is a lot. Hormones are a lot.

Im so happy you said it can take a while to feel that connection with your baby. For a month I thought something was wrong with me because I didnt feel this beautiful bond everyone talks about right after delivery. I wish someone told me it was normal and I wasnt an awful mom for it... I spent over a month crying, starring at my daughter thinking I wasnt meant to be a mom.. 1 year later and we are best friends and shes my world. IT IS NORMAL. IT IS OKAY.

When I had my twins (where I live you automatically deliver multiples in the OR) they had me lay flat on my back, my legs in large stirrups that were the length of my legs, strapped my legs in and told me to grab my thighs like I'm doing a crunch and push. I was like wtf I didn't do crunches before I got pregnant how am I gonna do a crunch now? GTFOH.

It's so cool because everything you were asking for, delayed cord clamping, skin to skin, delayed body washing, etc., are standard practice for my hospital! The labor and delivery liaison said that if hospitals are following scientific research then they should be doing everything that way too. I'm so excited to be giving birth again, so I'm really enjoying hearing people's birthing stories!

This was one of the best birthing videos I’ve seen and I’ve seen a bunch. Just love seeing mom’s giving life to a human. My 2nd child was born from start of the first contraction to his first breath in less than 4 hours. Kept saying “I can’t believe I have a baby” over and over again. Like I didn’t know before he was born. 😂 Enjoy every moment. It goes fast! ❤️

How your contractions started was exactly how my entire labor went. I didn’t feel any Braxton Hicks and I didn’t feel any contractions. I didn’t even feel anything until I was 8cm and even at that point it was only pressure. I only felt pressure the entire time. My shaking didn’t start until my baby was already out.

It makes me so happy to see people talking shamelessly about not having that instant connection to baby. I remember being pregnant with my daughter and talking to her the whole time she was in my belly and feeling so connected. And then she came out and I was like who the hell are you 😂 of course the connection came. 2.5 years in and it's still developing more and more every day 💖

Uhhhhggg!!! I hate that they made you get out of the tub!!! This is why if you have a normal, low risk pregnancy they should allow you to labor the way you want!
I don’t believe hospitals are the right place for labor (if you’re low risk) hospitals are for sick people. Pregnant women aren’t sick. The staff “says” they’ll give you informed consent and allow you to choose what you want but they don’t!
They’re very pushy if you don’t want something that they believe you “need” like erythromycin or vitamin k.
I dunno. I’m biased and traumatized from my 1st labor.
My first birth was unusual: it was a free birth (unassisted home birth) in an Air bnb in Montana. My SIL was a lay midwife and attended 40 births at the time. We had a Doppler to monitor our baby, my MIL was in charge of documentation of the “chart” and the property manager of the home we rented (they all knew our plans and they were very excited) his partner was a ER nurse whom offered to help during the labor at any time!
We had to transfer after 23 hours of labor (the experience was amazing. I was fully in control and and I was handling the pain extremely well. When I was in transition we felt something was off because I was in that stage for a while) because when I was pushing, my son’s butt was coming out! He was breech!
So we went to plan B, called the hospital to let them know and drove the 4 minutes to the hospital while my body is pushing- I had the Fetal Ejection Response- I couldn’t control my body!
They put me in a wheelchair -which I was squatting on- checked me and said: yep! Your baby is breech!
They wheeled me into the room, put me in the bed, onto my back, whilst they put an IV in my arm (I told them no pitocin) trying to hook up the fetal monitor while talking about a possible C section!!
Uh, my sons butt is crowning!
They keep telling me not to push! I couldn’t control it and there was no medical reason for me not too!
They asked if my waters were clear after my water broke- it was but they didn’t believe me.
We had checked my sons heart rate 20 minutes before arriving to the hospital with the Doppler - he was fine! Everything was written down in the chart but they wouldn’t read it!
They told me my son was in distress and could be dying- he wasn’t and they couldn’t hook up the monitor so they had no basis to make such a claim!
So I was in the bed on my back when they decided they wouldn’t wait for my body to push, 4 of them put their fingers inside my vagina and stretched while 1 other grabbed my sons hips and pulled him out! They gave me a 3rd degree tear -3rd degree is bad! It involves the muscle tissue. This all happened within 5 minutes after getting into the hospital room!
My son came out with his eyes open and immediately crying! We told them to delay cutting the cord and immediately put him on my chest- they immediately cut his cord and brought him to the warming table - believing he was in distress but he wasn’t - his Apgar was a 9!!!!
When I told them no eye ointment they argued. When I said no hep B they argued! Vitamin K they argued with me!! Everything!
They punished me because I was having a free birth - as if women weren’t having Bavaria since the dawn of time! As if we weren’t built to birth and I hadn’t taken every single precaution and we weren’t monitoring myself and my son!
We had everything a midwife would have provided -we even had an emergency room nurse with a kit ready but no one had experience with a breech birth. So we decided the hospital would be more experienced- they weren’t! They were fearful and had little experience with a natural breech delivery. So they put their fears into us!
They could have seriously injured my son by just pulling him out!
He’s now 4 and healthy and amazing! We’re finally pregnant with baby #2 due in March and we’re going to a birth center.
A women should give birth where she feels safe. Too many women die in the US at hospitals from preventable complications. I wish we would normalize home births and birth centers for women who are healthy and low risk.

Yeah, our men don’t get the urgency part. My Danny always takes too long to leave for anything and we’re always late 😂
We’re due March 9 so around 37 weeks I’m making sure he packs a birth center bag with anything he might need! Otherwise he’ll be doing it right before it’s time to go!

Posterior labour often starts on and off for days, my first was on and off for 5 days. Its very normal to go into another world trance like state during labour, especially when its getting serious. I had my 2nd baby in the bath but i had to sign a form ahead and planned to do it. U forget so quickly how hard it is, why we go back for more!

I also delivered unmedicated in a hospital using hypnobirthing techniques, it was so helpful! I remember telling the nurse to check me after transition and she was amazed I was fully dilated! I joked around between pushing if the anesthesiologist was there yet to give me my epidural haha. The nurse was hilarious, went along with it.

When I was pregnant and in labor with my first son, I told my husband we need to leave for the hospital right now. He says “okay let me make some eggs and do the dishes first.” And that’s what he did 😂 it was great and worked out well. Was 7cm by the time we got there and had a natural healthy baby

When I had my daughter I woke up at 6:30 am with contractions, told my fiancé that there “may” be a baby coming but not to worry about it. I had been having inconsistent contractions for like 3 weeks so I thought that I had plenty of time to birth.
I got up, got my son dressed and his breakfast made and his bag packed. My fiancé ends up getting home at 8:30, calls his mom to pick up our son, and forces me to go to the hospital.
He was freaking out and I’m in the passengers seat like “we don’t need to be going right now, what’s the point of laboring at the hospital when I’m gonna be doing the same thing at home but I’ll be more comfortable at home”. A nurse comes out with a wheel chair and I decline it and tell her to save it for someone who really needs it.
We got to the hospital at 8:49 am, they get me up to my room at 9:10 am, and my baby girl is born at 9:49 am.
    I was shook lol.

I just gave birth to my second son on Aug. 4, 2020..and literally like 5 minutes after he was born I looked at my husband and said, “another?” He laughed and said let’s wait a bit lol
But I understand the feeling of not being connected to baby right away. It happened with my first son. I knew he was mine and I was protective of him but I didn’t feel that “unconditional” love that some mamas feel right when they see their babies. It took me a few months to get to know my first son and fall in love with him.
