The New Dead Cells Animated Series Was NOT What I Was Expecting...

- With the sad discontinuance of major patches to dead cells, the pending release of dead cells immortalis shined something of a light in the glim world of dead cells just a couple months ago, being one of the final official expansions to the dead cells universe, and a promising one at that. Now that the full season is out, I've got to say that above everything else, dead cells immortalis... is not what I was expecting.

this looks like a fan-made series
it's okay tbh
when they announced the animation i thought bobbypills and bobbyprod were the same studio so i was expecting it to be an anime serie in the animated trailers style
Its not. Fan made series looks better.
@@Sandro_de_Vega brutal but perfectly accurate
Did you even watch the video????
@@theguywhoasked2597 yes
... Wait, apart from the blight, dead cells WASN'T supposed to be comedic? That's news to me lmao
There are alot of at least semi serious "cutscenes" and the ending is pretty nihilistic.
@@snap2cb777 ... And? Tragicomedies are a thing. Even if the story has a bad ending, this being a tragedy, It can still be a comedy everywhere else. Plus, the beheaded does not give a singular fuck, so... Yeah it's still a comedy. A Very violent, nihilistic, death-filled comedy, but a comedy nonetheless.
@@trollman_2345 I mean personally I think the general story is tragic with comedic elements, not the other way around. but I still think it's a shame we didn't get a lore accurate show, part of the feel of the game is how alone you are, so having a world where people are still very much around doesn't quite capture what makes the game interesting in lore and feel.
Honestly, I was also a bit put off by the art style. After all, I watch Dead Cells animated trailers for the animation as much as I play Dead Cells for the combat, not the story. However, I'm glad they turned it into a decent animated series.
I think may have seen you in a comment section
frenchie here, and I must tell you: I one hundred expected it.
Its a french game
so I expected a french cartoony style
I get why so many people hate it tho, it was a risky move and the series itself besides the art is ok, but yeah anyways cool game
After watching it, I thought it was pretry good as its own standalone thing. While its in the canon universe, they still had the beheaded's character down in the game. I definitely think its not for everyone but i think its a fun watch.
This was a strange show I thought was a fan animation... but mostly stayed for the characters rather than the story oddly enough.
It is not Dead Cells. Mostly taking place 250 years (rather than 300 years) after the disease took place and more comedy based rather than action or plot based... but it was a descent show since it was free (youtube) I had fun watching it... and I had no idea that this was an official series until after having watched the first four episodes.
Considering the time, budget, release time, and the fact it was an independent project... I give it credit as it felt more like a classic youtube series... Sort of like old Rooster Teeth with Red vs Blue, Shoddy Cast Story Teller for Fallout, or B00mrang with their Crash series (Sort of like Red Vs Blue.)
Simple graphics, sometimes reused assets. The plot is good enough... but in all honesty you are there for the characters as the plot is just an excuse to see them again.
That’s not the beheaded.. that’s Bobby :]
The third (?) successfully made homunculus
Interesting, didn't know they were separate characters
@@TheFrosif of course they are! you can get the bobby skin from playing and eventually finding it
plus bobby is the only homunculus to have an eye that *looks* like an eye.
purple corpse, pink flames, comedically stupid, he's fundamentally different
Im not mad, just disappointed.
Not because the show is bad, I haven't even watched it.
Its the fact that the show is more of an "alternate-telling" of dead cells. which isn't a bad thing, i'm sure the show is at bare minimum a decent watch. I just wished to get more story from Dead Cells that I spent hours playing and got invested in. And initially when I saw the teaser I had hoped that if they were gonna stop developing Dead Cells that the show would expand upon where we left off if it ever reached that point.
But keeping it positive, maybe if the show is popular enough, it may retroactively get us more updates, showing that there is still a community.
i saw this and i genuinely thought it was a fan animation
Honestly the art style and animation aren’t even that bad. It’s really just the beheaded, and the fact that the trailers look awesome.
I wouldn't have a problem with the artstyle, if they advertised it that way, but instead they showed the teaser with the very high quality art we got to see in normal trailers, but for the full show pulled a bait and switch. That is very scummy to me personally, so i feel most of my anger comes from that.
The art is fine but the instant i saw there was a poop joke in the trailer and that bobby talked all my excitement vanished
I really liked the show, didnt knew the story before watching it but even after watching it, it was very nice. And also for the budget they got, they really made a nice show
I really enjoy it and hopes for more mate!
its not disconnected it takes place I think 250 years into the future thats what the alchemist said
Show isn't canon
@@V2Plushi yeah but its not disconnected ya know i what mean?
Interesting, I must have missed that. Would explain all the new material I suppose? I wonder, would that mean this is a universe where the events of og dead cells already took place or some new time-line. Not totally sure, haven't beat dead cells on BC yet so idk the lore entirely.
No he said that it had been 250 since the disease had happened. The games had taken place 300 years after the disease had happened.
Sort of spoiler, but not really a spoiler....
Also it is revealed that this story doesn't match the original story as the queen was captured by the 'not necromancers' who then used her in an experiment in an attempt to make an immortal body to not be affected by the disease... and this story has the undead bodies bit happen before the disease takes place.
Spoiler past that one for the show, but not much of one...
As in your classic 'If someone becomes immortal the who world suffers so nobody is allowed to be immortal least the whole world suffers. So you need to kill all the immortals to end the disease, because balance or something."
Finally a video on this topic, I thought the show was completely unseen
I loved the voices (am french) and some jokes, but i must admit I would have loved something in the tones of the game trailers and more in touch with the lore, it looks more like a spin-off
What if season 2 somehow ends up with bobby back at the prisoners' quaters and from there the normal events of the game take place and they show some bosses we didnt see at all like conjunctivius or scarecrow.
We didn’t see conjunctivitis, the time keeper, the giant, the hand of the king (the fingers don’t count), the scarecrow, or mama tick. Also no Dracula :(
True but dracula is casltevainia so I doubt he'll show.
@@Bucket2000Joking
Tbh, i did not even know this came out. Thought is was still being made since i never saw anyting about it, other than the teaser.
we just set the bar too high, it would take forever to animate a show with the trailer's style
to me, the show is perfect and loved every bit of it
I find it annoying how people set the bar sky high and the end product doesn’t reach that and then they say it’s shit. Like I don’t know man maybe lower your standards to a more realistic standard
@@labbit35Ah yes the people set the bar, it's not like the trailer they put out was super missleading or anything. I ll tell you i didn't expect much but this looks like high guardian spice with slightly better writing... in fact i'd say even that UNIVERSALY hated show had a more apealing artststyle!
@@ll-cu3kb I don’t think the art style is that bad, you’re just exaggerating
Ok idk why it keeps recommenting or something but imma just delete it all and try again sorry 😭
As a personal DCI fan, I was skeptical at first as well. I believe the simplistic art style matches the humor the show takes on, and the broody artstyle of the original teaser paired with the humor we got wouldn't have mixed well in my opinion. As I watched the show, the artstyle really began to grow on me and I was able to appreciate how much effort Bobbypills put into it working with the tight budget they had. I also read the article about the creation of the show, and an important thing to note was how the writing continues in way that is note acted on by the watcher anymore. We are spectators. It's also important to not follow Dead Cells one to one so we're consuming the same content over and over to act only as a marketing for the game, but to actually make it its own show.
Laure acts as the narrator and accompanies Flame Face to keep the feeling of adventure alive. I really enjoy their dynamic, the voice acting was amazing, the soundtrack was also great, the simple writing with the interesting twist, and keeping everything in mind with how much they had to work with, made a genuinely great series. I see this show as more of a spin off than an actual continuation of the games with a different atmosphere, but that doesn’t mean it’s only lighthearted. There were stakes and raw moments, and there’s a lot of imagination to play with when it comes to interpretations of the series. I do wish characters like the concierge had more relevance and that a lot of them wouldn’t be sacrificed for plot, but maybe with the season 2 (if we get one) it could be a bit more faithful. Over all, Dead Cells: Immortalis is honestly a great show and I’d be ecstatic for a second season.
@Sansic8 sorry about the comment deletion, I have the filtering set to its minimum but youtube still likes to randomly silence people from time to time for no reason
@@TheFrosif nah no worries it’s my own fault I think I sent it twice on accident, idk it’s finicky but it worked in the end I believe
I think its good animation for a series and they animate the fire head all the time, they also need simple animation for fight scenes
I did not know the old trailers were Bobby Pills! Love their stuff from Laserhawk to… other things.
Being a dead cells lore nut, i gave up on this pretty much immediately. Its not a dead cells show, its something else wearing a cheap dead cells costume. The fact the beheaded talks...
This show is a parody at best.
I honestly think that a comic in the style of the trailers would probably would be far better ( snd probably cheaper too ) option
wait, this game has a animated series?
The style felt like eating soft food and feeding a crunch but backwards if that makes any sense.
The style is too cartoony like a flash animation but jumps up and down in style.
Hot take: the animatio IS diffremt but it's still really good it's slick fast paste and overall remind me of tmnt rise and lego monkie kid
I actually like the artstyle. The only thing I don‘t is that the flame is a bit lame, I wish it was given just a tad bit more attention
I hate the art style, the fact that we got kinda led on by the trailer, and how the plot wasn’t more rooted in dead cells. It’s a non dead cells show, with a dead cells skin. It only has only a few characters from the game, they are drastically different then from the game, and the show has nothing from the dead cells gameplay, like the unique weapons or bosses. The ending was also kinda terrible, spoilers if you care, but it just ends with a black whole and a big fuck you. I don’t think this should’ve been made. This gets a 0.22/10.
I didn't even know there was a series
I feel some scissor seven vibes here.
I just want to point out the fact that this came from the people that made the Castlevania shows
10:05
The goober
So goofy
I like bobbypills humor/style.. but i fairly understand people who cannot appreciate it
Honestly? While it wasn’t exactly what I expected, I loved it. 8.5/10
i dont know i think the art style is kinda cute in a weird way ngl
I'd kill for a DLC introducing the five fingers as bosses in the game but unfortunately the game is dead
The trailers look and tell a more accurate story to the game than this show.
WHAT
I THUGHT THE THUMBNAIL WAS JOKING
honestly, i really like the artstyle. not as good as the dead cells trailers of course, but its got a lot of charm and it could have been worse
Its a low budget prod guys not the mappa
I will admit, I was disappointed by the animation style at first. I've warmed up to it and wish they get a 2nd season, but I was really hoping this animated series would follow the storyline of the Dead Cells game. At least, so I could find out what happened to tutorial knight
so the series will focus on defeating the king? The girl will have a trauma when realized bobby is the king
I’ll be honest, it felt like it was something I’d see on Cartoon Network, I wasn’t a huge fan of it but dead cells content issss dead cells content
I wonder if the beheaded van poses a body that isn't human
I suck at drawing but man I could fr make this in microsoft paint, the quality is crazy low
I think this show is not really good but not really that bad too.
I also have some complaint:
1. Why are they have to nerf the malaise, yeah i know it's not connect with the game but why are they have to nerf it, the malaise in the game literally almost wiped out the whole island and everywhere is not safe for them because the malaise is everywhere, while in the show if someone get infected just throw them into the sewers, problem solved. It makes the malaise less interesting and less threatening, also why the malaise turn into some kind of black hole in the end? It literally introduced as a virus, why is it turn into some kind of black hole
2. Isn't indexa introduced as a archer? Why is she turn into a scientist that brainwashed you?
3. From a game that commit a lot of genocides, why is it has less action, when there's an action in the show it's either short or not really fighting but instead playing games
4. Why having a immortals has to do with the malaise. In the game the malaise came before the immortals/homunculus, yeah like i said the show isn't connected to the game, but just why?
I will give this show a 5.5/10, and for my favorite character i think it's the alchemist, his not evil, his just doing what the king said and do what he thinks right, just like in the game. And if there's gonna be a season 2, i hope they made the alchemist badass
Did you notice the boarders. Its called dead cell shading. Ha ha ha. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined 6.47281/10. Trailer style would have been nice.
Yeah im sorry I HATE IT the artsylte is completely different the character is nothing like one from the trailers i can deal with the story its going for BUT MY GOD WHY DOES HE LOOK LIKE THAT AND WHY CAN HE TALK :(
Honestly I understand how people feel but I feel like this is just two things. One is this isn't what people expected from dead cells because if you ignore all the comedy the game does seem really gritty and styleistic and you are stuck in the internal bad ending. But one thing you realize while looking at the weapons and the achievements and the costumes and the vibe of a lot of the trailers is that while it is very very murdery, it's also very silly. Like honestly, pan nunchucks should have been the telling sign that this was going to be a comedy. I think the only reason why it's not a comedy game is because it's a roguelike and repetition does not necessarily mix well with comedy.
what they did to my boy
Nahh what did they do to the teaser trailer
Im going to say it, that series was one that only seeing the first episode, i know that it would be bad
I think that i was expecting something very different, something like i dont know the serie of netflix of Castelvania (I dont see it yet but something like what i know about it)
12:04 animation error
Isnt bobbypills the same studio who makes…
Yep 💀
I thought that series was fanmade?
