The whole episode feels like a metaphor for the universe experiencing itself through us humans (a part of the universe itself), the way Jake experiences himself through his world.
Adventure Time has always managed to sneak in horrifying concepts by disguising them as absurd stories. “Jake gets hungry and goes inside himself, which is also a whole world” is a very silly premise for an episode, but it’s used to plant themes of existentialsm and nihilism, therein lies the genius.
It's crazy that this is a kid's show but filled with so much wisdom. It doesn't necessarily tell you what the answer is but you get a feeling about the outcome of the story. Like jake needs to eat at some point, so he can't hold on to his childlike imagination forever but he shouldn't forget it as it can be a true source of joy. When he sheds a tear it's so relatable as the kids who watched adventure time as a kid/teen have probably become adults by now and have experienced that sacrifice in childhood for maturity. You can't have both at the same time and something must be lost but in the end, no matter how much you want to hold on to your childhood, maturity will come with time like jake got hungry eventually, the grown up life will cause earthquakes through your life that you should address first with what you really need to do. This episode reminds me of the famous Carl Jung's story where he overhead his dad talking with a visitor how he was worried about his ability to take care of himself. And in that moment he committed himself to studying because he knew in that moment that, that was his life goal and that's what he needed to do. Just like Jake new he had to eat.
Children have no use for this kind of information unfortunately so this kind of cartoon still comes off as a philosophical indoctrination, albeit accurate, but still a predatory one hiding it in a children's cartoon.
Huh, I always thought Finn was being Cthulhu here, with the vision of him instantly killing Eric, butI never caught on that Jake going into himself and dreaming a whole world is another Lovecraft reference. Interesting.

The whole thing is a farce. Magic man just made a spell that causes Jake’s dreams physically manifest through Jake’s dream, with an added catch that Jake is fully aware, and must make the choice to wake up. It’s a messed up joke by manic man and HE GOT US ALL. Except me.
Also, Goose saying he hasn’t seen Jake in “2 or 3 years” is a reference to Futurama’s hiatus. The episode is also probably inspired by the Futurama episode “Godfellas” in which Bender (voiced by John DiMaggio, same as Jake) becomes the god of a civilization that lives on his belly
Perhaps all of Adventure Time is just a dream Bender had after his head gets dropped in Roswell and spends over a thousand years lying in the desert. Maybe all of Ooo, where in stark contrast to Jakeworld with its food made of person the people are made of food, is also just a subconscious reflection that will inevitably cease.
@@IvytheherbertConsidering Prismo implanted a fanfic universe in the Ice King's brain, this idea wouldn't even be too out of place for Adventure Time. Hell it could even explain how Bender encountered Finn and Jake at one point.
2:25 Slight correction: Azatoth isn't a god who dreams the and as such the universe would disappear when it wakes up he is a god who is constantly being forced to sleep for should he ever wake up he would consume everything that is. Yog-Sothoth is a much better example as Yog-Sothoth IS everything there is
Well, it might also mean that while yog sothoth represents the "true" reality (the pure and primordial state of things), azathoth represents the "false" reality (inspired by the true but distorted and diluted to fit the dreamer's perception). It's kinda like azathoth's supposed preacher (Nyarlathotep) wants to ensure that whatever the end of the dream would lead to, it must be closely related to the latter's interest in humanity. Something that Nya doesn't want.
I've seen that " correction " being passed around the internet for quite a bit, but really there is nothing in the mythos written by lovecraft that contradict azathoth being the one dreaming all of reality and quite a lot that heavily imply it is doing exactly that the fact it's the being at the center of all infinity, the fact that the flute player who decide wich rules all realities apply by use said music to keep it asleep, the fact that nyarlathotep the litteral soul of all Other Gods, wich include yog sothoth by the way, call it " my master ", and the fact that it match completely with the whole point of the mythos wich is cosmic indifference what better way to represent that than making a creator god that didn't even mean for reality to exist in the first place ? there's other example but safe to say that yes azathoth was most probably written as the center piece of the cthulhu mythos in one way or another

also love the inexplicable futurama references as having a lot of the crucial characters of this episode having the exact same deliveries as characters such as fry or farnsworth, makes it ten times more surreal
No way this is your first video? It was so well worded and put together. I never knew why this episode always irked me, but its also kind of beautiful in a way. This was a really good breakdown
IMO, Goose represents Finn's influence on Jake. Even when you're alone, there are people in your life who you just can't get out of your head, and become integrated as one of the voices of our psyche. Often, this is a sign of emotional abuse or Codependency, but Adventure Time actually does a good job of showing this kind of deep interconnectedness in a positive light. Everything you said about Goose is true, but I think it came from Finn specifically- his sense of right and wrong, and that Jake chose to become a better person for him. Jake addresses Finn as Goose at the end because, deep down, he was talking to his personal, inner Finn the whole time. They both see themselves as "Finn and Jake," but can operate in the absence of the other because they recognize each other's respective Best Self and can use that to make themself stronger. And we later find out that Finn is able to keep living without Jake and be a great hero, using his brother's memory to keep him stable and on the right path.
@@TeeBreak This video got in my head a bit and left me pondering, especially in how Jake was the one with the thiefish proclivities, yet was the one to exist on a higher plane in the afterlife... But then I remembered that Finn's past life as Shoko was as a thief. Except, their motivations were entirely different- Jake states he literally didn't know better, almost foreshadowing a kind of High Wis stat that's on a level that's just plain incongruent with basic society. If he's actually near the point where he's seeing the One-ness of everything, then yeah, maybe in this life, maybe he would need to have the basics of personal property explained to him, I suppose. (At least, by adventure time metaphysical logic) Meanwhile, Shoko was motivated by very Earthly factors like some greed, but most largely fear- more specifically negative earthly feelings over positive mortal motivators, like their newfound positive relationships in the Candy Kingdom. I daresay that this experience seems to be a key motivator in the underlying sense of righteousness Finn would go on to be born with- and also be the guiding element that was the grounding, positive earthly nudge Jake needed to be his best self as the Adventure Time equivalent of a Bodhisattva-esque figure. (achieving nirvana, but returning to the mortal coil in some capacity for the betterment of unenlightened souls) I daresay you could make some really fascinating exploration on the meaning of thievery in Adventure Time, as its kinda a huge point in almost every character's story. From the themes of the Ice King "Stealing Princesses" to the Magic Man's hat, (which also ties neatly into a sense of enlightenment) to the above ideas with Finn and Jake.
I can also take it as escapism can be a temporary sheild for your mental health, but it will never contain the solution. Indulge in it too much and you'll be afraid to leave it behind when in reality you havent been living at the helm It can be very easy to start imagining a different world with a better life, and to slip into this more and more often. But you've gotta know how to live your life outside it and be comfortable leaving it since your needs are external, even as basic as food
This is basically what i needed to hear, i have gotten hungrier daily yearly for more and more validation. WIthout realising that i could just stop doubting myself, choose the right people and live by morals and imagining validating myself. No one needs anything but themselves, and we should create a balance where self-validation becomes a necessity and social validation becomes a nice to have
Fun Fact: this episode is also a reunion for voice actors John DiMaggio (Jake) and Billy West (Goose/Dr. Erik Adamkinson), who played Bender and Fry in Futurama. 3:09 is a reference to Futurama wrapping production 2 to 3 years prior to this episode. Jake
I think the main problem with Magic Man is that has just really obnoxious and does little to actually help Finn and Jake, if they had him do antagonizing stuff but also then helping them sometimes, it'd be better.
Most of the 'lessons' we learn from the world appear random and cruel. So, if Magic Man is to be a useful trickster figure to represent that, he has to appear random and cruel (it really helps that he's a horrible mess himself). There are plenty of other characters in Adventure Time that play the trickster role from time to time, representing other aspects of life (remember the episode in which Marceline teaches Finn about evil and darkness?), and they're far kinder and more reasonable.

They kinda are, it's why people that think Google needs to listen to microphones are so stupid, it would be extremely expensive, not cost effective at all Algorithms have been good enough to predict your behavior for years - it didn't show you stuff because you talked about something- it just predicted you would talk about that thing based on what you did before Personally I find that way scarier than the conspiracy theory of them using microphones but what do I know Another good example for this is women starting to get coupons and ads for baby products and only later realizing they are pregnant

@@TeeBreak DANG! !!!! i just called my grandma before watching this video and she told me i made her cry tears of joy
crazy coincidence and this is very sweet ty for sharing!
Did you know that most of the people in this episode or voiced by people from Futurama and Jake, the dog is a voice actor of bender
Time to poop for 17 minutes and 14 seconds
Lol
Loved your breakdown saved me mental ill and worry i love this episode i was recently getting so annoyed of the maintenence of eating and surviving. This is a beautiful show
"Wow, that was a real funky episode."
"That was actually a Lovecraft reference about cosmic horror."
I just accessed the channel hoping there would be more videos... this was truly amazing man
My favorite thing about this episode is how it has futurama cast members, like zapp, the professor and fry
yes! that was an awesome callback to futurama especially since Jake is Bender lol
If one considers Puhoy, then both Finn and Jake have witnessed an ended world.
also love the inexplicable futurama references as having a lot of the crucial characters of this episode having the exact same deliveries as characters such as fry or farnsworth, makes it ten times more surreal
This was really well written bro I really liked the creepy vibes you added to it as well
Noticed there was only one video on your channel. Look forward to seeing more of these. Good job king
Thank you!
I love the editing on this especially the sound design
9:43 Speaking of food, why are Icarus and Daedalus absolutely caked up?
This is honestly such a great video, and I wholeheartedly believe people like you are keeping adventure time alive, even if it had ended.
No way this is your first video? It was so well worded and put together. I never knew why this episode always irked me, but its also kind of beautiful in a way. This was a really good breakdown
Thank you!!! It is my first video in this style, more coming soon!
Woah that’s a super interesting interpretation i like it a lot!
(At least, by adventure time metaphysical logic)
Meanwhile, Shoko was motivated by very Earthly factors like some greed, but most largely fear- more specifically negative earthly feelings over positive mortal motivators, like their newfound positive relationships in the Candy Kingdom.
(achieving nirvana, but returning to the mortal coil in some capacity for the betterment of unenlightened souls)
I daresay you could make some really fascinating exploration on the meaning of thievery in Adventure Time, as its kinda a huge point in almost every character's story. From the themes of the Ice King "Stealing Princesses" to the Magic Man's hat, (which also ties neatly into a sense of enlightenment) to the above ideas with Finn and Jake.
wow. its shocking how much i love and relove this show and its lessons.
0:43 "Magicman doesn't work withing good or bad" (currently turning a bird into a horrible abomination.)
the editing with the guitar playing and the dissonant little chords for the little baps pows and wams goes so hard. insta sub
YES thank you! All music and sound effects are self made. The volumes kinda low in the mix but next vid it’ll be better. Glad someone noticed 😄
loved your analysis, eloquence and editing style! keep it up
@@lucasves01 thank you so much!
Hi I’ve been waiting for someone to make adventure time analysis like this for a long time so pls make more videos, this was great
i love you magic man...
this video is well-edited and written!! i loved the review a lot!!!
awesome analysis im so excited for more!!! :)
This was so deep. So many thoughts brought forth.
Very well made and thoughtful video. Very well spoken tbh
I can also take it as escapism can be a temporary sheild for your mental health, but it will never contain the solution.
Indulge in it too much and you'll be afraid to leave it behind when in reality you havent been living at the helm
It can be very easy to start imagining a different world with a better life, and to slip into this more and more often. But you've gotta know how to live your life outside it and be comfortable leaving it since your needs are external, even as basic as food
So mad this is the first upload need moreeee
Haha thank you there will be!
For a first video on your channel, this was an absolute masterpiece.
Thank you so much!
good futurama episode
Very deep, and great analysis & video. Thank you!
This is basically what i needed to hear, i have gotten hungrier daily yearly for more and more validation. WIthout realising that i could just stop doubting myself, choose the right people and live by morals and imagining validating myself. No one needs anything but themselves, and we should create a balance where self-validation becomes a necessity and social validation becomes a nice to have
It’s so bizarre going through a phase and finding a video at the same time talking about that phase
10/10
@@MisterDragelof haha i’m so glad we could provide that for you, thanks for commenting!
There are plenty of other characters in Adventure Time that play the trickster role from time to time, representing other aspects of life (remember the episode in which Marceline teaches Finn about evil and darkness?), and they're far kinder and more reasonable.
instantly subscribed, i cant even put it into words, ty for exposing me to a specific facet of taoism and i rlly hope u have more videos that go into it esp with ATLA
Thanks so much! I love ATLA so yea maybe i will make analysis on that series too :)
for a first video this is amazing man. keep it up
Thank you so much! I definitely will , it’s comments like these that make me super excited to continue!! Seriously, thank you!!!
I guess Google is reading thoughts now because not more than a half hour ago, I was thinking about how “Everything’s Jake” is an underrated Adventure Time episode.
They kinda are, it's why people that think Google needs to listen to microphones are so stupid, it would be extremely expensive, not cost effective at all
Algorithms have been good enough to predict your behavior for years - it didn't show you stuff because you talked about something- it just predicted you would talk about that thing based on what you did before
Personally I find that way scarier than the conspiracy theory of them using microphones but what do I know
Another good example for this is women starting to get coupons and ads for baby products and only later realizing they are pregnant
13:00 I'd like to see you cover this episode where's finn slowly get hook up at playing the small version of the characters and invested for their interactions &relationship. I think it's pretty interesting. It's also episode caused by magic man
Good idea! I like this episode too and yea magic man is crazy for that yet again, i’ll see if i can make something happen!

2:37 Azatoth does not dream his verse he is just really powerful and will physically destroy it in a blind rage. The dream aspect was added after HPL’s death based off of Lord Dunsany’s Gods of Pagana

Thank you so much for our first ever comment ever, we will definitely be putting out more videos, we appreciate the support :D
Nice first video, keep up the good work! We need more adventure time youtubers
Something I'm only just now realizing after watching that recap, the "Welcome Home Jake" party is eerily similar to the Space Jake episode (I forgot it's name) where Jake is welcomed to his "True home" in space, but it's all really an elaborate lie.
OR Maybe I'm remembering wrong and I'm crazy. It's been a while since I watched this show.
When it's your first video but the seriousness with which you treat the show is so refreshing it gets you like 10k views per day.
