Thank you, thank you! I got this exact wheel and the first time I used it mud and water went everywhere! Your idea of making a basin is brilliant! Also love the little sponge tool you made. I will definitely be doing that. I had the same questions about the large tools by the way 😂. Such a weird thing to include, but whatever, I can have them as back-ups for the big wheel
Hi Amy. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate the time you took to do that. I recently changed to the bigger wheel head and used an old sherbet plastic bowl as my basin. It works great! I also ordered molds on Amazon for hand building pottery and they came with some sculpture tools and they are perfect for my mini pottery throwing. I love my sponge too. I need to make a large one for taller pots when I throw on the large wheel.
@@vanillavinepottery great idea on the sherbet bowl. Gives you a little more room. Also, I made the sponge on a stick in my pottery class this week, and used it to smooth the corners of a shelf I was hand building. It worked so perfectly! I'm going to take your tip and make one for the big wheel too. 🙂
I’ve only ever used earthenware or stoneware clay, however you could use an air dry clay. Just be sure to know to use the right type of paint rather than glazes if you want your pieces painted. Of note, is that air dry clay throws much like porcelain clay and it’s a bit harder to throw. Hope that helps.
@@itsnoteasybeinggreen-oz4ul Funny you should ask that. I tried making a life size piece on my mini wheel a couple months back and I just couldn't get it to work. It was very hard to center a larger piece of the clay on the wheel and I didn't like putting all that stress on the wheel. I personally, can not do it.
@@itsnoteasybeinggreen-oz4ul You're welcome. Keep in mind that you can also hand build pottery, especially mugs. Some potters have whole businesses just making hand built, (rolled slab) pottery. I have a couple of videos on hand built pieces. Maybe I'll do a video on hand building mugs. I'd hate to see you buy a small wheel with expectations of making larger pieces on it and it not work out for you. That said, I don't know what your budget is but Amazon has some pretty decent portable wheels that you can throw larger pieces on. I have an Aspire Shimpo portable pottery wheel that I throw my larger pieces on because I'm very challenged with space where I live. I think I purchased it for around $500 and some change.
@@4veijzer 2000 TPM? I don’t know. 🤷🏻♀️ I’ve never counted the spin per minute or read that in the description before purchase. It’s a Yofuly. You can research it on Amazon.
The wheel doesn't come with the basin you see me using. So yes, it comes off. I engineered it because when the wheel is open the clay splatters and makes a mess that I don't like to clean up.
It’s funny you bring that up. I was just thinking about that yesterday. I’m so mad I never got my wheel. What is weird is that they did ship some prototypes to influencers to review. It was a super cute wheel. My partner ordered it off of one of those kickstarter type sites and they either scammed everyone who purchased one or are horrible at keeping their buyers informed. I’m guessing the former.

@@vanillavinepottery me too! Thank you! I am a total newbie so your videos have been beyond helpful. Keep 'em coming!
How many times have you used it? I wonder becaus I head from other brands that after 20-30 times you use it the motor goes weak
Hi! What kind of clay do you recommend? I want to do it at home without a kiln.

Is this one of those pottery wheels you can buy on Amazon with 2000 tpm?
I purchased it on Amazon, but I’ve no idea what a TPM is.

Does the outer part come off to use the wheel open? Thanks

Thanks for the information!
I message you on insta. My mini wheel just died. I see the torque is about the same as mine. I’m going to try a different brand.
Hmm?
Ahhhh ha!
That Uniek pottery wheel is a scam! They never ship it.

Oh my gosh stop talking, let’s see the product
LOL. You can fast forward the video or just don’t watch it.
