      As someone who has done pottery/ceramics, it's definitely not something you dive into feet first and expect good results. If you don't get all the air bubbles out of the clay, it can explode in the bisque firing. Not to mention you have to be careful with some glazes and what you're going to using your piece for. The oils on your hands can cause certain glazes to not what to stick to the piece and Raku glazes/clay contain lead. You also have to account for shrinkage as your piece dries and that glazes change color during the second firing.
      That being said, I'm surprised he got a lesson as well (remembers the time Jazza tried to pour soap without doing research).

    • @KeyushTheStuntDog
      @KeyushTheStuntDog Год назад +11

      @@greenliongirl07 yeah there is a lot to consider, I have a home pottery studio, I learned at Uni and have taught myself a lot. You can teach yourself through watching videos, but Jazza's usual way of figuring it out without any prior knowledge would have been a struggle, but also entertaining. People can get very frustrated with centring. My lecturer taught us one way and it didn't work for me, so I changed my dominant hand and it worked, a couple of my classmates had the same issue, but got on much better the way I showed them.

    As a potter and Ceramicist I’m sooooo happy you are working with real clay.
    Most people get frustrated when I tell them how *long* clay takes to DRY AND FIRE!
    I spend weeks making my art, then I fire it 🤩
    Then I spend many hours decorating, painting and glazing my work.
    THEN I seal it into a metal box and light it on fire (essentially 🙄)
    It’s the only art medium where you have almost no control over the final step 🙃
    It’s all up to the pottery gods 🙏🏼

      @OptimusRose Год назад +1

      Pottery gods? Did you mean "dear baking gods of Evermore"? I really admire anyone having so much patience to do stuff like that, so I wish you good luck, protection from cracks and other kinds of destruction of your pieces.

    I REALLY wanna get into this, but its probably fairly expensive, not the clay but the material to do things... and i also need a place to keep it so.. :( maybe one day...

    • @rachelcookie321
      @rachelcookie321 Год назад

      For some really nice proper stuff it’s expensive but you can get the basic simple stuff for cheap. You won’t be making the nicest pottery but you can definitely learn a lot from doing it and still make some decent stuff. They sell like craft kits for this sort of stuff at like craft stores or online.

Seeing you having fun in trying and improving on the first "hands on" exeperience is really the most comforting to see :) Even accepting failure as a part of the learning experience and package it as someting entertaining is what I really like with those kinds of videos.
