    Did you use underglaze on the bisqued hearts? Ard the backs painted ?They're cute. Thank you.

    • @vanillavinepottery
      @vanillavinepottery День назад

      Yes I used an unglazed without a shine. I made a tutorial which you can find on my RUclips channel which will show you exactly how I made these. I have since designed a kiln furniture stand where I could glaze the back also, hang them on the stand, and fire them, but I haven't made anymore of these since I made the first batch. I also have a tutorial video on how I made the kin furniture stand. I think I used an earthenware clay for these as well.

    Thx for making this I really needed this!! My question is how does it survive multiple firings? Doesn’t clay melt after 4 firings

    • @vanillavinepottery
      @vanillavinepottery 24 дня назад

      No it won't melt. I bisque fired it first. It can be fired between cone 5 to 10 after the bisque fire and I always fire at cone 5 or lower. It would only melt if I fired at a higher temp than recommended. This is a high grog clay and it's very sturdy. I've already fired this stand 4 to 5 times with spoons and it's still in great condition. That being said, it won't last forever and may begin to weaken over time. When that happens I'll make a new kiln stand for my spoons. I hope that answered your question.

    • @vanillavinepottery
      @vanillavinepottery Месяц назад

      Sorry for the late reply. I've used the stand several times now, maybe 5 or 6 times and it is still holding up. I used a high grog clay called Zumia and it works great for kiln furniture and cookies. The high temp wire is another issue. It can be a bit pricey and I only get 1-2 uses from the Kanthal wire.

      @vanillavinepottery Месяц назад

      Sorry for the late reply. Sometimes I glaze the end and sometimes I don't it just depends on my mood or style of the spoon I want. Hope that helps. Just FYI, it's ok not to completely glaze the whole spoon, especially the handle.

      This particular one was a great starter mini wheel, but I really love my @smallceramics Little Betty wheel better. She cost more, but she is sturdy, has great torque power and clean up is much easier. I see that Small Ceramics came out with steel bats for their wheels now and I’d like to order a few so I can dry my pieces on the wheel and trim them without the plastic melting! Hope that helps you. Happy potting!!!

    What type of clay and glaze do you use please?

    • @vanillavinepottery
      @vanillavinepottery 10 месяцев назад

      You have to use glaze for the clay type you are using. I use both earthenware and high fire stoneware clay for my tiny pots. Some glazes cover a range of low through mid fire. Just make sure the glaze is right for the clay you are using. You can also use air dry clay and for that you would use acrylic paints but I've never used those materials before. You may want to research both ways. Hope that helps.

    I just found your channel and love the stand for the spoons, I am a new potter and begining to make spoons. Thank you so much for sharing the stands.

    • @vanillavinepottery
      @vanillavinepottery 11 месяцев назад

      Thank you for watching. I love the stands but the wire I use only holds up through so many firings and if the spoon is on the heavy side or fired at a higher temp, the wire becomes weak and brittle and I have had spoons fall off the wire. I'm trying to troubleshoot this with stronger and higher temp wire. Truthfully, I prefer using earthenware to make spoons because they hold up better on the stand at a lower kiln temp. The stands have their place as do kiln furniture stands for longer and heavier spoons. Lots of trial and error with pottery for sure. Best of luck on your pottery journey.

    Hi! Can you tell me what kind of high wire you used? Doesn’t it sag a little bit during the firing?

    • @vanillavinepottery
      @vanillavinepottery Год назад

      I used a 15 gauge Kemper high fire wire. It fires best in lower fires though with lighter spoons. I had a mishap in my last firing at cone 5 and a couple of my heavier spoons fell off the hooks because the wire bent at the high temp. I’m in the process of troubleshooting and looking for a better way to hang heavier spoons in higher fires. The more you fire the wire the weaker it becomes obviously. I did recently order a 16 gauge higher temp wire so waiting to test that out when it arrives.

    • @vanillavinepottery

    Vanilla--- Word to the wise...you best assess your posture and distance from the wheel. I fear at some point, you'll end up with an aching back. Better posture will also enhance your pulls and overall success.
