I have shot jsb exact 15.89grain .22, 5.51waisted diabolo for ten years through my Weihrauch 100 T. They have been reliable and accurate for all those years. Until recently when I started getting a high percentage of flyers. I had the rifle serviced at Hull Cartridge where the gun came from. I then had the gun serviced by an independent gun smith to see if the problem was in the rifle. The gun was passed safe and accurate to use. So then I looked at the jsb,s. And what I found was the pellets when weighed ranged into three distinct weight ranges. Heavy 16.5g medium 15.86g and light 15.00g all from the same tin using calibrated scales. Also jsb has changed the design of the skirt depth from an average of 2.367mm original to 3.471mm latest. An average difference of 1.107mm. In a deeper skirt length. With a pellet height of a constant 7.56 that makes a percentage difference of 6.829. That can have a major ballistic effect on a pellet of 7.56mm. The batch number on the tin is 40560018.
I used to use Prometheus and the Sussex Sabo in my old Airsporter Prometheus was meant to be high velocity and cause larger wound channels as it tumbled . It also made great sparks if it hit concrete say if you missed the target
Loved the wasp pellet as a kid I guess those diabolo are a modern equivalent. The Bisley was the regulation pellets for many of the competition shoots. Those hollow slugs were the typical fairground pellets. Oh the good old days when a range was common place at a fair.
The copper ball tipped ones you can buy them in lead with a metal bb ontop, I use to use them, can’t remember who made them but you can see till find them, I use .22 diablo Hades (awesome pellet, great quality) now and Premiere Domed (super cheap and not well made but they work well with my gun)
Back in the day I remember using those Prometheus in my Theoben. 22 Eliminator 30ft lb break barrel. Bad ass as the crack suggested that they were breaking the sound barrier even with standard theoben moderator. Theoben did not recommend these because of plastic residue left in the barrel.
Thanks for the side-by-side comparisons. I'm in the market for a first airgun, and this has at least in general fashion given me a better understanding of shapes and use cases.
Pretty neat target set-up. Cool seeing someone else using same loads I use regularly too, especially the Crossman pointed H-points. I thought I was the only one who'd picked up on these. Thank you very much for the insights and keep up the good times.
Great information. In India, flat head pellets are used only by professional shooters where 90 % people use pointed pellets. The most people are not even aware of the fact that the pellets comes in different types of heads.
Thank you for the great information. it always amazes me that alot of people think air weapons aren't that dangerous. nice collection of rifles! thanks again!

Are prometheus still available. Had some when they first came out. Appalling accuracy but penetration was insane. They would actually go threw a car door skin and threw a tempered windscreen.
Well I've thougherly enjoyed your video even though it was made quite a while ago now. Reading some of the comments just proves there are some stupid people about. I fully understood your using different rifles for the different types of pellets used etc. At least I understood it wasn't a comparison, but a demonstration of these pellets. I certainly wouldn't want to ruin a nice rifle either. I actually learned quite a lot as I didn't know about lead balls for a start. I actually used another brand I can't remember now but they were like the Prometheus, a Zink plastic skirted pellet. I used to have to use a brass brush pull through to clean the barrel after a good few went through to clean out the plastic but by God they were very accurate and powerful, they would easily penetrate the door of a steel clothes locker at 30 yds and put a huge dent in the back plate as well. That was using a PCP Daystate MK ll Huntsman. Happy days. I've watched quite a few of your videos now and have really enjoyed them all. 😉👍
Nice to see results side-by-side, & compare on the same medium. A note about airgun darts, there are two styles; one has the "hair" tail, as shown here, which are meant for use in smoothbores. The other has a longer, fluted plastic tail, which are meant for rifled barrels. I shot the latter out of my Crosman 1377 pistol many times at a dartboard target, & with only two pumps, got excellent accuracy out to ten yards. However, they do impact far lower than standard projectiles, requiring major sight adjustment or hold-over.
Seriously though, you did a good job. It was a little slow a few times, but you did hold my attention for 24:35. I would have shortened the description of similar projectiles (do a quick showing of them) and would have focused more on comparing the exit channels. Showing which one created the most damage, deepest penetration, most takedown power, etc. Maybe use a piece of meat for a more accurate measurement in the future.
THx the the info - I've been trying to get my hand on some RWS Hyer Max (.221) everyone is out ot stock and I tried some plastic jacketed ammp that I was very disappointed in -
I used the feather ones but didn't know my barrel aren't smooth I hope I didn't do damage as they shot terribly. My feather rounds looks like cast aluminium so they should be softer that the steel.
i have the gammo red tip and find they don't work very well in my gun, the tip separates from the lead skirt during flight making it essentially an off balanced hollow point that usually hits target sideways instead of tip first
I have 2 German rifles a Walther terrus an a Diana 34 both .22 for some reason they like the crossman hollow points better than the most expensive ones.....
Those zombie trackers are useless. The glowing tip is at the front so it flies away from you when you shoot it and you never see it. Pull out the glow tips and glue them in the back of the skirt of a diablo pellet. They're easier to charge with a uv torch when they're loaded and you can actually see them👍
A quick question if you don't mind? Drozd Blackbird (Russian made bb machine gun) From what I understand it is available in both smoothbore and rifled barrel...but both barrels are designed to shoot steel bb's only. This is contrary to the wisdom of that the steel shot should not be used in rifled barrels. What is your opinion on that?
You did a good job but you should have shown the back side completely and slower on the camera to see the full effect of the damage done by each pellet.
Nice video, good info, thanks for it. how far were you shooting the target board? 2 meters? the sound changed and i could't quite make out what yuo said
920 FPS is about the speed at which the transonic pressure wave begins, this presure wave is problematic for diablo type pellets because of the aerodynamic character of diablos and should be considered maximum accurate speed for diablos. Slugs don't have this problem and are usually heavier than diablos, so much better at delivering energy at distance accurately (all other aspects being equal).
Hi JRH - very interesting - never heard of the sabotted pellets! Also the Predator Polymags you mention are quite accurate for a pointed pellet in many of my airguns - most other pointed pellets are like you mentioned not great for quality / accuracy. Thanks!
I've been experimenting with some of the new slugs that people are casting at home and selling on Ebay. I got some for my armada .25 that are elongated hollow points with a steel core. They literally shred apart on impact with hard surfaces. Very nasty when you think about hitting something live with it.

those Gamo red tipped ones are absolutely amazing for small game! got a rabbit through the heart at about 70 yards with iron sights with my remington nitro! they're almost perfect for that gun with a VERY consistent accuracy! most of what i use them for is squirrel and pest control and they're the best ones i've ever used out of all the ones i've tried! the crossman destroyers work great too but only at closer ranges ~15-30 yards, they lose too much energy with that cupped nose but they hit hard and make quite a cavitation sound when they impact! they won't over penetrate either.
