Thanks a lot for this! We bought this game a few days ago. Since we are beginners when it comes to boardgames we had a hell of a time figuring out all the rules. In the end we just stopped playing and decided to meet up another day, so that all of us could go through the rulebook a few times, lol. This video helped a lot, I'll be sure to send it to each member of our group :) Take care! (also, I subscribed, awesome channel!)
Played my first game with my siblings, Just had a few test turns to see how to play the game. Watched this video and saw that we did a few things wrong but it was rather quick and easy to correct. Thanks for the video, Definently made playing a lot easier.
Great tutorial! This helps players understand the rules and mechanics. But I have an observation: actually, ties in battles are determined by the combatant with the highest position on the fiefdom track, not the by the house holding the first position on it. The number 1 in the fiefdom tracks only gets the sword. So, if a player in the position 3 ties in battle with a player in the position 4 or lower, the house in the position 3 wins. It is not decided by the house who holds the valyrian sword.
Definitely would love a film in which you play the game. I tried to run a game today with people, they got confused so we packed the game up. I ran a three player by myself to get a feeling for the rules but still have a few questions. Great video and thanks for it.
yes u can muster with the special consolidate power order at a castle or stronghold where you actually have units in. all mustering rules apply, your mustering there is subject to supply level as well as the point(s) you are able to deploy, depending on what it is (a castle or stronghold)
Thanks for this guide. Took me ages to try and explain the rules to my friends but now I'll share this video and they'll get a better understanding. And yes raiding a consolidate power let's you take a power token, and if it was the starred raid, I believe they lose a power token
If you see a -1 on your defense token then it means you subtract 1 from the total amount of defensive power. It's the same if you see a +1 on an order token. +0 does not give a bonus or reduce your atk/def
the players who starts 1st is the player which has the highest position on the iron throne track, in every game at the begining baratheon starts 1st,greyjoy has control of the valyrian steel and lannister has control of the raven. at certain points in the game where a westerous card needs to be resolved change is the order might happen as every player will bid power icons to gain control of the 3(iron throne, valyrian steel and raven)
I am one of those people that learn by playing or watching someone play, but this looks interesting enough for me to possibly learn it and upload a game that is played online via Vassal. We will see.
So the tides of battle cards are not optional the are vital to the battle portion as they have the Skull or manditory death with or without a fortification symbol.
When an attack is declared both players hide their cards and choose one card to play (faced down). When both players have chosen a card to play, simultaneously reveal. Note: players may request to view anyone's combat cards prior to initiating an attack or defense.
I have seen a few of these G of T 2nd Edition reviews. They are very helpful. Two things i would like to see. Stop explaining what a wildling is or who any of the many characters or factions are, if im looking to buy a game of thrones board game, and looking hard anough to youtube it, i think its fair to assume i have read one of the books or seen an episode. Second, i would love to see an actual 6 player game played out. Atleast a few rounds. All and all realy good video thank you.
In 19:15, after he March an army of 3 pieces he left a Power Token to "keep" his territory... But why? He cannot claim that power token (crown on map) with a power token). I understand that the only reason someone would leave a a power token to "keep" control of that territory is when it has Barrels for supply... Am I Wrong?
In a game I recently played, one of our players lost their capital city as well as all their units (destroyed through the use of the Tides of Battle cards as well as not having anywhere to rout to). All he had was a single ship left on the board. Would there be any way for him to get back onto the land?
We played this game before. It's a complex game and takes about an hour to an hour and a half for a 4 player game. Sometimes it extends up to 3 hours. We played the expansion and had 6 players on the game and it took almost 5 hours to finish!
yeah but what happens to the army that was defeted ? you didnt say anything about the retreat? and i don't get that the retreted units respone in another round if the aren't attacked again? and what is with the areas you control with the power token? can you perform there mustering? or is it only posible with a unit on the controled are? (i know thatt there mus be a stronghold or a castle. pls responde and sorry for ma english ;/
And how many order tokens can i put on the board? does it depend on how many armies i have in one area right? one for each area where my army is in located.
Thanks for making a primer. I just want to add that your video sound volume is extremely low. I had to use external speakers on my laptop because I couldn't hear anything on the laptop speakers.
Alright, But if i use my card do i and my enemy need to show the card at the same time or? the attackers who attacks first shows first. and than the defender shows his card.
How do you decide at the start of the game when everyone's chosen their house, who gets on the influence track? And in what order? Do you roll dice or something ?
Can you guys play 1 game and film it :D i cant get it right now but really want to see how you can play it out , it would be nice if you do that ^_^ thx for the info on the game
im thinking about buying this game, it looks awesome, however it also looks extremely complicated ( lots of rules ) this is something im going to have to think about for awhile.
I understand the game. It's just ports that confuse me. Would you mind telling me if you talked about that and when in this video? Don't have time to watch this whole thing...
After using a combat card, you put it into a personal discard pile. You do this until you spend your last combat card at which time you get to pick up your discard pile back into your hand. Note: All players begin with 7 combat cards. Players must show their combat cards at all times. Don't mix up combat cards in your hand vs. combat cards in private discard pile.
arent combat ties decided by your position on the feifdom track? not by the top person on the track. like if the starks are 3rd and tied in a combat with the lannisters who are 5th then the starks win cause they are higher.
I'd love to film a whole game, complete with reality TV style confessionals and everything... but I doubt I'll ever be able to pull that off. Maybe someday....
Most people pronounce it wrong without realizing they're doing it because everybody else pronounces it wrong too. It's true though, feel free to look it up if you're curious.
Uh - for all the people saying my comment about the word primer being pronounced "primmer" in this context is wrong and/or thumbs-downing the comment, trying looking up the word at Dictionary and clicking on the button where it speaks the word to you. It's pronounced primmer. Go learn something instead of getting pissy because I pointed it out :p Is it different in "British English"? The web site makes no distinction, but I'm getting most people pronounce it wrong there just like in the US.
There is no definitive correct or incorrect way to pronounce words in English. Interestingly, unlike French, there is also no definitive correct grammar in English. There is only looking at what is generally agreed by usage. Dictionaries determine pronunciation based on whatever method and whatever sources they choose. Merriam-Webster, for example, has their own "pronunciation file" which has been collecting pronunciation from actual speech since the 1930s.
Well met. Just so you know, in England, you'd definitely be pronouncing that word correctly. Anyone pronouncing it 'primmer' would not be understood at all.
Your video uses time inefficiently. At 36 minutes, that is a problem. I trusted watching this with some friends and we all fealt that it was dragging its feet. A little bit of preparation before hand can have a significant impact on future videos. It might help also of you had someone to hold the banners for you. Not only would this address focus issues, but eliminating the multitasking element will be better able to present a concise explanation.

Thank you for taking your time to make this video! Such a video is a great way to approach a new board game.
Thank you so much !!!
As there is no french edition yet, your comments helped me a lot understanding the rules !
Great explanation, man. You talked about things that a lot of others omitted, so thanks!
Great tutorial! This helps players understand the rules and mechanics.

I've got my first game of this coming up in about a week. This video really gave me a solid foundation of the rules. Thanks :)

i really want this game thx for the rules video....btw, question: if you raid a consolidate power order, dont u get a power token for "pillaging" it?
So the tides of battle cards are not optional the are vital to the battle portion as they have the Skull or manditory death with or without a fortification symbol.
nice overview of the game...thanks for sharing
thank you for simplifying a complex game of risk it was fun to watch.

+Felipe Amaral for when a consolidate power card comes up
raven's power can be used at ANY TIME during the action phase, right?
@serveeihort Is the 2nd Edition a expansion pack or a full game? Thanks

Please invest in some lights if you plan doing more of these. But, very good explanation.
what happens if two houses gives a march order and they crash? the combat would be to win what?
who starts first is there an order? how can a player be first with the throne the valyrian steel or the rave? and if there is an order can you tell ?
How do you decide at the start of the game when everyone's chosen their house, who gets on the influence track? And in what order? Do you roll dice or something ?
+Marcus I. Keil the rule book tells the starting positions for the game depending on how many players.
do i need to discard combat cards if i battle? or do they stay in my hand......
how many action
token must be in possession?
Thanks so much :)
Just bought it - can't wait!!
If there is a -1 on the order token what does it mean? plz explain mate
Can you guys play 1 game and film it :D i cant get it right now but really want to see how you can play it out , it would be nice if you do that ^_^ thx for the info on the game
You forgot the tides of battle cards which is huge in battles also you have forgotten mustering with the consolidate power token
@paniklewe, It's a new edition of the full game.
About these cards they are optional right? Is it better to have them in play?
im thinking about buying this game, it looks awesome, however it also looks extremely complicated ( lots of rules ) this is something im going to have to think about for awhile.
where can I play this online?
Do you recommend this to just 3 players?
Yes, you should definitely mike yourselves better, other than that, exellent work! I'm waiting to get to play this, hopefully not too long.. :)
I understand the game. It's just ports that confuse me. Would you mind telling me if you talked about that and when in this video? Don't have time to watch this whole thing...
On average, how long does a 4 player game last? Anyone?
This was a GREAT VIDEO! Thank you!
When you pick up your combat cards from your discard pile, you should have 6 cards in your hand and 1 card in the discard pile (7th card)
I was just about to comment on this, thumbs up.
I'm applying a thin coating of information on which you can paint your own knowledge of the game. So I think I can pronounce it either way. : )
After using a combat card, you put it into a personal discard pile. You do this until you spend your last combat card at which time you get to pick up your discard pile back into your hand. just bought the game yesterday :)
Oh man, I wish there was a way for me to buy this board game :/
very good review!
I've never heard of that distinction.
Good video! Thanks, man! Very helpful! :D
Thanks man! This was useful. :)
great video!!! thank you!!!!!
Most people pronounce it wrong without realizing they're doing it because everybody else pronounces it wrong too. It's true though, feel free to look it up if you're curious.
Pssst... in this context, it's pronounced like "prim-mer." Pry-mer is the stuff you coat a surface with before painting it.
Oh that would be so nice. :P
Thank you!

Ok Thanks
nice thanks!!!
i think 4 people disliked it cause you got soft in certain areas and we couldnt hear u but it seems like a game of risk to me
they can't, because march orders are resolved in order of the iron throne.
Thanks :)
that would be funny as hell.
ok thanks a lot :)
video so quiet..... louder plz
do it lol could be pretty cool
I considered buying this game to play with friends but it looks far to complicated for just a casual evening's entertainment. Pity.
On a computer with low volume, you guys have waaaaaaaaay to soft voices to review a game.
Its an ok guide but the transition music really sucks sry :/ best of luck

Stealing your idea and crediting you by your youtube username.
Not in British English
learn to focus! otherwise, thanks this is great!

Plus he's wrong.
learn to focus!!!!
So if i have 2 infantry units moving into a new area with -1 order. That means i got 1 atack instad of two?
