  • H132GVM was new to Greater Manchester Buses as 2032 in 1991, and is preserved in Stagecoach Magicbus livery now. Not quite powerful, nor was there any exciting kickdown, but the overdrive top gear is always worth waiting for, plus the engine and rear axle both sounded nice. When reversing, the brakes were surprisingly loud, much like a Leyland. I never heard that from a 3-axle Condor/Dragon.
It was the 4th time I saw the bus in gatherings this year, and in the previous 3 times the engine doors were kindly opened. The chassis plate says that the engine is the turbocharged 6LXCT, but the actual engine should be the naturally aspirated 6LXB from what I saw.
I never knew it is possible to accommodate a large Gardner engine and a 4-speed Voith gearbox (which is longer than the 3-speed version) in a bus with conventional transverse engine layout (i.e. engine coupled to gearbox, which drives the prop shaft via an angle drive), e.g. Dominator & Olympian. I thought it was only possible either by the use of transfer gears like VRT & early Dominators, or by placing the angle drive between engine & gearbox, like Metrobus & DB250.
    Thank you for watching!

    Almost Leyland Olympian sounding.

A great video of a decent bus, sounds very much Metrobus like but with her own twist to the 4 speed Voith/Gardner combo. Thanks for uploading this fantastic video of a batch of buses I have never had the pleasure of seeing let alone riding on 5*

This one sounds great and is a fairly good cruiser when its on a flat piece of road. 6LXB engined Dommies are much quieter than Metrobuses due to acoustics and how the engine and gearbox is mounted. Some Metrobuses/ Dominators were fitted with 4 speed boxes for long distance routes.

It really dies on hills but does in its own time. It should have had a 6LXCT instead as its more powerful.

Wonder what top speed is and what mpg. Also would you change the gearbox to an Allison or keep the voith?.
