Also as a side note, i drive public transport buses here, after my job application, part of the hiring process, was a psychological test, and a reaction speed test etc. Also in europe every "professional driver" (be it truck or bus) has to follow and complete a mandatory course for it (for trucks like how to load and unload, for buses its like baggage, and dealing with passengers)
He is relying not on his own skills but on the trust that no one else will make a mistake. All it takes is someone to not see him and merge in front of him or an unexpected tap on the brakes and it’s all over.

@@andy-ally I have driven this kolkata route on the Volvo countless times for more than 20 years. Him and his friends always drive like this. They have a lot of control of the vehicle and inside the bus you hardly feel the speed because of Volvo. They are driving these roads since ages and have grown up in and around the areas. They are skilled at what they do. Yes, accidents will always happen. But the comments here make it sound like these guys are daily ramming into other vehicles.

A skilled driver knows his vehicle and it's capabilities, he knows from a mile if he will fit through a gap or not he can feel the vehicle.
Basically it's becoming an extension of your body you don't even have to look so much, you can just drive through a gap or take a sharp turn without looking since you can feel your vehicle.
At least that's how it is for me when I'm driving with my car.
If you change your vehicle, you always have to adapt, so even a skilled driver won't drive as good as usually when he uses a new car.

And that kids is what happens when nobody is following any road rules and nobody is enforcing road rules. Apart from the extremely reckless driving that will eventually lead to casualties, we can also observe heavy trucks driving in whichever lane they choose, cars overtaking left and right without any signals and this guy with the bus squeezing between them. Now just imagine if all those heavy trucks would drive in one of the lanes and fast cars in the other how this could easily be avoided. This is what happens when uneducated people are left with no authority control and they choose how to drive.

the speeds are being monitored in system in their bus so that if it exceeds 80kph for a prolonged period, the bus driver is given penalties...

Right, I've seen a lot of people say he isn't a skilled driver because he's driving fast. Correction: he IS a skilled driver for being able to maneuver like that at speed without crashing, but that doesn't make it right. He's putting others at risk, if a tyre blows for example. He's driving dangerously because, no matter how skilled he is, the chances of him saving it when something goes wrong with the vehicle itself or someone moves in front anyway are slim.
In the states I've seen these buses do 90 mph, since that was the speed limit. You bring up a tire blowing out, he's doing 60 mph, everyone else seems to be moving at about 40mph. But I agree, this is nuts in a bus, with other people in it.

I would never travel on a bus with a driver driving like this, speed is fine as Volvo buses are meant to go on that speed but the cuts and the overtakes are really scary. A disaster can unfold in just a nick of a second. I would literally ask this driver to stop the bus on the highway wherever place it may be and find a new mode to get to my destination.

On highways there is a rule to maintain maximum and safe distance between two vehicles so that the behind vehicle can get enough time to apply brake in case of braking. This driver did not maintained this distance, if accident happens then it wouldn't be a big issue for the bus but it will be major issue for small vehicles like the honda amaze (3:32), tata altroz (7:34), ford ecosport (7:45), etc. It is because of such drivers that Indian roads are not safe.

Everyone whoever saying this is dangerous, many drivers drive like this. But this requires 100% precision and 100% luck. If either one misses then it turns into an accident. Another major concern is no vehicle or no skilled driver can even stop in emergency situations while doing close calls and trailing behind other vehicles the whole time.
