    After seeing how well the Hooker headers fit I am wishing I would have purchased these instead of the shorty stainless headers. If I can’t get them to work I may try to sell them on marketplace and get the Hookers. Awesome videos with good information!

    Hey everybody, so I know I just fixed all the Chevy s10 harness wire issues. After I found the engine to run flawless I decided to upgrade all the + and - to 0 gauge. while in here I will also install a new stand alone harness to clean things up a bit. I want the ecu in the cab behind the dash to allow the tires to tuck where it is now. To do this I may need a new oil pan the stock one sits real close to the ground. Its the lowest part under the truck. I also want the radiator recessed for more space. I have been itching to play with the engines for a while so I am taking a painting break to learn a bit about these engines then I will get back to the c1500 truck to finish that sweet paint job.

    Considering these manifolds for a 2003 with Ls swap. What’s your thoughts after a year? Sound much different than headers? Any heat build up under the hood like there is with traditional tube headers?

    • @thisoldhooptie
      @thisoldhooptie  8 месяцев назад +1

      I dont notice a sound change, I have very small spin tech mufflers. Mine is pretty loud to start. There are no issues with heat. I would buy them again just for the space and clean look. 👍

    • @thisoldhooptie
      @thisoldhooptie  11 месяцев назад

      Yes, I show my dipstick issue in the video I would either need a spacer and oblong the hole for the bolt or get something new. The plugs and boots are all aftermarket to fit the old headers so they worked ok. The tranny is hosed so I am getting a new pan and dipstick for when I have the time to fix that. Always something 🤣

      Might wanna change the factory style 2.8 frame clam shells to polyurethane inserts or the current performance frame mounts type that you can find cheaper on EBay or Amazon, as the rubber tends to sag and tear under the weight of the LS motor. The 84-94 jeep Cherokee XJ steering shaft works in the 1st Gen s10's. 95-05 Chevy Astro 2wd steering shaft also works, but one end has to be clocked 90 degrees.

    Why wouldn't the stock exhaust manifold work they hug the heads just as tight as the blackhearts do? Just curious.

    • @thisoldhooptie
      @thisoldhooptie  9 месяцев назад

      I purchased the truck with the beat up headers that I removed to fix exhaust leaks. Also the steering column was half gone from rubbing the old headers. I like the look of these manifolds better then the stock ones. The stock ones may work, I have not tried them. This was the first 5.3 I have worked on. I picked this busted beauty up to figure out how things work so I can swap my 92 c1500 and tahoe. Learning as I go 👍

      @thisoldhooptie  9 месяцев назад

      @jakekelch2572 might aswell give it a go. If it works let me know. Definitely a cheaper route. Plus the stock wires would be good to go. These are super tight the stock wires melt.

      The hooker manifolds made a huge difference in clearance when compared to the headers i removed.

    • @littlemotor414
      @littlemotor414 Год назад +1

      @@thisoldhooptie oh I’m sure of that! I’ve done close to 20 swaps in s-trucks with both traditional 23deg SBC’s, as well as later LSx’s. Nothing beats a manifold style exhaust as far as clearance goes, but absolutely suffers in performance as compared to tubular headers. Just part of the game when stuffing a bigger motor in a little bitty truck. Worth the trade off for me. I like aggressive cam grinds, good heads, and big compression, so big primary longtube headers is a must. 1 7/8” Stainless Works headers, with Current Performance mounts put the motor right where I need it.. Obviously still requires (minimal) firewall massaging, aftermarket steering shaft, and tubular upper control arms for the best fit. I run ‘Vette oil pans, notch the crossmember, and box it back in. Nice and clean.

    • @thisoldhooptie
      @thisoldhooptie  Год назад +1

      @@littlemotor414 Its nice to know there are people like yourself willing to share the knowledge. After the dash repair I plan on pulling the engine in this truck to smooth the firewall and replace the oil pan. The pan sits way to close to the ground for my taste. These and the c1500 just feel like home. 20 years ago I would mess with stereo wireing and hydrolic suspensions. These days I enjoy screwing around with paint on the cheap along with engine basics. Im not to into the speed element yet. I guess my expectations fall somewhere between ratrods and hot rods 😁

    • @littlemotor414
      @littlemotor414 Год назад +1

      @@thisoldhooptie thanks sir, just passing along experience. Nothing wrong with doing what makes ya happy either! Just an FYI; the Hummer/Alpha pan will sit below the factory crossmember as well. Good practice is for the oil pan NOT to be the lowest point. That’s why I notch, and box the crossmember, and run the ‘Vette pans.. Hope that helps, and good luck my dude!

Another words the comment will not show here untill I force allow the link to be posted. Would like to check it out. The crossmember is notched and welded up on this truck. But it does have the stock truck pan. The engine and trans is stock 2001 5.3 from a 2 wheel drive tahoe.
