The Ares kids were far outmatching Percy at the start of the fight. He only started fighting well when he got near the lake, his father's element boosting him. Seeing this is what gave Annabeth the idea to push him in the water and see what happens.

Same I kinda wish though that he had at least made it INTO the water at some point in the fight. Even if he just initially stumbled back a little and then started kicking ass. Would have made Annabeth pushing him in at the end make a little more sense

@@Junoisverysleepy You make a very fair point. I guess maybe it would have been more difficult to have the fight scene in water? Idk.
I did notice one thing, however, during the fight that tells the audience that Percy isn't actually supposed to be this good (yet). When he does some cool move, like catching Clarisse's spear, he looks surprised by it. So I guess we have that much.

Honestly the gods being hateable is very accurate how they are often portrayed in myths. A lot of things that happen in the myths are a result of the gods being petty, unfaithful and just straight being jerks.

In the books i always read it as Annabeth had a bit of a crush on Luke but his status as a friend/family came first but since the series is from Percy’s pov he was just projecting his jealousy onto to Luke since he liked Annabeth. Luke Definitely always seemed like a brother figure who kinda just used Annabeth’s feelings to manipulate her, not that he reciprocated those feelings. That was always my interpretation anyways

Yeah and the last bit in the 5th book where Luke asks Annabeth if she loved him. I think it wasn't because he was interested in her *that* way, but because he had his suspicions that she did crush on him, or that he wanted to have been loved by his family in a familial way. And that her "no" put him at peace.

And he went to visit and talk to Annabeth about Kronos soon taking over his body because he was terrified and felt like Annabeth was his last lifeline and connection to his early life and his good side. Annabeth was seemingly still struggling with her feelings over Luke and Percy during Battle of the Labyrinth. In the books, Dionysus was forced to work at the camp for centuries as punishment for flirting with a nymph that Zeus had his eyes on. It was a contributing factor to why he was so grumpy, apathetic, and snarky in the books. The no alcohol curse was part of the punishment.

For the fight with the Ares kids, if u watch carefully they were whopping him while in the heart of the woods but once he's by the water, that's when he gets the upper hand. In the books Percy describes feeling empowered when he's close to the water and I guess that was just hard to translate that realisation to a show. But that's why he became a Chad in that moment haha.

As far as I'm aware luke never had a crush on Annabeth, it was one sided, so I don't think thats icky. Also Percy is meant to be competent at sword play, its his "skill" and his a demi-god of the big three who are meant to be more powerful than ordinary demi-gods.

I LOVE the acting in this episode, specifically from Dior and Charlie. I am partially bias cause Clarisse is my fave, but I truly thought he acting was great. She doesn’t seem quite as angry as in the books but you can still she that characteristic violence and need for glory. Plus her scream after Percy breaks her spear, ✨🤌✨, perfection. You can clearly see that, even if they don’t explain why, that spear was extremely important to her and it gave us a look at the rage that Clarisse is kinda known for. And Charlie, CHARLIE. Charlie Bushnell’s acting in this episode is phenomenal. I’m a book reader and I know what Luke ends up doing. Despite this, I still found myself kind of loving Luke. He did actually seem sweet and kind to me. Plus I love that we saw CHRIS. I love Chris and I wish we saw him more. I’m so excited to see more of him in seasons 4&5

Honestly? The drawn out ending could've been eliminated if they'd just had more of Annabeth showing Percy around camp and teaching him things about mythology. She just comes across here as such a cold character. I, too, was watching with a friend who knows nothing about the series, and she said "Can Percy trade his mom's life for [Annabeth's]. She's literally worse than Clarisse." Like, yikes, way to not appeal casuals to your main female protagonist.

  • @Edward-W
    @Edward-W 6 месяцев назад +1

Thalia is supposed to be pronounced like Thalia. Not Talia. There is a very clear Th-sound in there. It's even written lol.
Luke never had a crush on Annabeth? She was always more like a close family member who he bonded with over shared trauma and harsh circumstances. Later in the book he just felt isolated and terrified before being forced into being Kronos' vessel and Annabeth was basically his only lifeline and the last hope he had of escaping. It was Annabeth who had a crush on Luke because to her he was a heroic figure who saved and helped her. She gets over that crush after being hurt enough times and also getting close to Percy overtime.
I agree that I'd like to see Luke being more conflicted in the ending of the season. With how this season fleshes out the gods being total assholes In Percy's own perspective, he might actually have more grounds to persuade Percy to join him instead of just trying to instantly kill him. But I feel like in the book he was just trying his best to project confidence and not show weakness.
As has been pointed out, It's obvious that Percy was completely unmatched with the Ares kids before he got to the water. You should know that water significantly enhances his strength and reflexes and awareness. Yes. they could have had a shot that showed the change occur at a clear point when he steps into the water or something, but to me it was totally sufficient with how he chnaged mid-battle when he got to the beach and how Annabeth pushed him into the water to see what happens because she had clearly noticed the change as well.

Their was exposition of Annabeth being a good warrior but they never show her doing being one think after Percy falls down all have her fight with Percy against the Ares kids. Show Don't Tell I hope they show her fighting later in the series. I can forgive not showing the capture the flag budget constraints. Other than that, a good episode is better than the previous one.

I would be all with you if the actual author hadn't been an integral part of every decision made for this series. But in this case I think we can just assume this is the author's vision. It doesn't always match my headcanon from the book either, but I'm interested to see how yhe actual author actually envisions his work with the hindsight of the entire series written already.

Everything seems fine until a battle begins, like there is something missing, i don't know what that is but something doesn't click. Because if there's one thing the Percy Jackson books were good at, it was danger and suspense, more than fear.

Thalia is a Greek name, spelled with the letter theta (θ). this may have two pronunciations, depending on when it was borrowed. In Ancient Greek, it was an aspirated [tʰ] (hard "t" sound), but in later Greek, it had weakened to [θ] ("th" sound).
This is the same letter on, for example, Athens. If you want to be "correct", then you'd have to pronounce both the same. If you insist on "t" for Thalia, you've got to use it for Athens too.

My biggest issue with this episode is not the fight scene, but the end part when Chiron explains the quest to Percy. Firstly, they have changed the amount of days they have to return the bolt. In the book they have ten days but in the series they only have a week left. They have a week left in the book by the time they first meet Ares and go to the tunnel of love. Another issue with this scene I have is Grover. Grover would never have disobeyed Mr D because he's far too scared of him. Also because he tells Percy about his mother when he isn't even the one who does that. Ares does after they return from the tunnel of love to meet him again. This changes Percy's reasons for going on this quest. It makes him selfish and only seem to care about his mother. I get that that may be more realistic but it's just not how Percy is portrayed in the books, he is selfless and a hero, he isn't in this series.

Annabeth and Percy as a pairing is just... ew. Like I get that it's maybe a bit okay because Annabeth isn't Athena's daughter in a biological way (Athena being one of the three virgin goddesses), but she's still Percy's first cousin one removed... I guess it's at least on point given how incestuous the Gods tend to be.
