It felt like going from the past to the future in one step, it handled and rode incredibly well, the suspension was soft and supple while still taking corners at speed. The all digital dash with the big central screen was incredible compared to my own car. The EQE is a tragedy in terms of interior space compared to its ICE-counter part the E-class. In fact because of the one bow design it even has less head room in the rear and far smaller trunk than a C-class wagon. If you drive an E-class you better wait for a BMW 5-series EV (i5) rumoured for 2023 or Audi A6 e-tron in 2024.
10:58: I believe the reason for EQE AMG being so similar to EQE is that at the moment they will not have the scale for the EQE to make it worth to create a much different AMG. The other thing is that EQE is already optimized for aerodynamics. They do not want to make it worse, since range is important.
That's not correct, the Tesla Model S has the lowest drag coefficient and looks great. The Kia ev6 even looks better than this. Except for the ugly front the Porsche Taycan looks better all the way around.

AMG is trying so hard. Unfortunately they are losing their mind. This car will NEVER appeal to AMG buyers any time soon. I think the full electric amg is a doomed concept. They did many things with the car that is counterproductive to the range (no heat pump, heavy materials etc.) so the EQE having this shape because of aero efficiency & range is bs, especially if we look at the EQXX which is far better looking and has better aero, i start believing Gorden Wagener thinks this “one bow” design genuinely looks good. Never been a fan of Gorden Wagener anyways, had some good designs over the past years but generally more screw ups than good designs. I loved the design of the Vision EQS and yes, the production models aren't quite like that but they are futuristic and cool looking in my oponion. I like the EQE/EQS models a lot; it still is all in the eye of the beholder ... isn't it! 😉🙂
The AMG VISION EV you were talking about is a concept at the moment as Mercedes has confirmed that a production version of the VISION AMG will debut in 2025 in a all new platform called AMG.EA, a platform dedicated for performance cars.
EV ≠ enthusiast driving machine with current battery tech. One day the technology will get there but for now they’re daily appliances. Taycan is an exception but it still lacks many elements from gas cars.
Great review - I like that you do have good things to say without harping 100% on the exterior design. I agree it could be better. If you’ve sat in a Taycan, it’s pretty obvious how much interior cabin space suffers due to its design. It looks great and performs well, but the EQE would be better as a daily driver. So it’s depending on your priorities. My personal opinion is that the EQS looks great driving on the road next to other cars - it’s different and has a “spaceship” look to it. Some people like that.
I have to agree with you on all points. But we shouldn’t be surprised as this new MB trend of all models looking same is just multiplying. Look at the AMG GT 4 door, you can order a GT43 to look like a GT63. Now MB has taken the trend to an EQE 53 that looks like Standard EQE. Comments from the younger crowd are posting that it’s not what it looks like, it’s what it does that counts. Well, let’s see if they will shell out the money and buy one. I say, vote with your wallet. I for one who owned 3 of the V8 CLS63s, I can assure you my money is no longer with AMG since the C43 was introduced and I will certainly pass on the current offerings, ok maybe a G63 I would go for honestly but that’s it.
I don't like the way it looks and I despise the hyperscreen (which, as you said, is just 3 different screens under one glass cover rather than one dashboard-shaped screen Merc wants you to think it is). Man, this is just another excuse to get a Taycan instead.
I just couldn't daily drive a car that ugly, no matter the performance. Love the Infinity Gauntlet sound though, time to Thanos snap quarter mile times out
Mercedes isn't competing against itself! They are competing against other OEMs that stated their cars are in the luxury lines with fit/finish/etc. and clearly they are not for the same price...
Rarely comment but wow. What was Merc thinking with this design for an "AMG" ? Not sure how any EV can ever be considered an AMG. Fast yes but no way to recapture the drama of a petrol engine. In EV world nearly every car becomes an "AMG" . To me AMG ceased to exist once they went EV
Absurd comment. AMG can evolve like the rest of the world. And it will because otherwise it’ll just die and you wouldn’t have performance cars anymore. Not sure I understand how that’s a better future.
@@mjvmusic This looks like de-evolution to me from the perspective of driving excitement - which to me is the whole point of AMG. With hands tied behind their backs I realize they are doing the best they can but I somehow doubt this EV iteration is going the capture the hearts of many AMG enthusiasts like the prior generation. Hope I am wrong but it looks like they are on a suicide mission and I suspect sales will reflect that. Time will tell.

It would better explained about the designed regarding the drag coefficient. You can't have a box and expect range to be spectacular. Design a vehicle based on your merits and sell it. I am awaiting entry into the NA market...
I think Porsche Taycan Turbo and Audi e-tron GT RS just looks better overall, even if the EQE 53 can keep pace with both cars and priced similarly. Also, AMG has always been synonymous with loud V8 noises & tire shredding tail-slides, but the EQE 53 cannot do either.
I have the same feeling about AMG EQE - the design is bland (trying to be kind here), it doesn't feel like an AMG. Take a away the badges you can say it's a generic Japanese or Korean family sedan. Very disappointing. 🤷♂️
Agree on the design , it’s hideous and worse design of mercades I wonder if they have good sales on those ?!!…Taycan on the other hand has some much presence way more
This might be the point we look back to in a few years and say EV was the death of AMG. I hope that doesn't turn out to be true, but this is disappointing.
Ive owned Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, GM(Ugh, don't hold that against me) and Infinity sport and luxury cars. I've always gone back to Mercedes. Just love the design, handling, and attention to detail. But this car is one ugly big bubble. Ooff. I'm hoping for more from AMG in the future.
Mercedes and AMG design team need to re-think and reimagine their interior design. You can pin point from which periods previous/old Mercedes car are from just by looking at the interior design, the steering wheel, the buttons and screens. Why does an EV, that has been developed for getting the longest range as possible have 3 digital screens that's using electricity for selecting things that could've had buttons, switches and knobs instead that are tactile and safer to use whilst driving.. you dont need to look down/where you are touching and pressing, you can feel it with your finger tips.. Mercedes and AMG are going absolutely in the wrong direction.
Not only do they look lackluster but the dash is TOO high in every MB electric car. Without an engine up front there is no reason you have to look up and over the intermant cluster and dash. Almost every other EV on the market has better forward visibility.
I’m going to buy a regular engine Mercedes and hope when they redesign these, they will get it right. With that said, I’m not hearing nearly as much negativity about this car I’m real life as I do online. I think they will actually sell decently!
More expensive than the current ICE cars and a boring bland design, I’m not so sure. As a current Mercedes owner and long term buyer I won’t be buying one unless the design changes drastically
I've been living in germany for a few years now and see all these new cars on the roads pretty quickly after release...except these EQ Mercs. They're so freaking ugly. I think anyone in the market for something like this just end up going with Tesla.

EV ≠ enthusiast driving machine with current battery tech. One day the technology will get there but for now they’re daily appliances. Taycan is an exception but it still lacks many elements from gas cars.
I'm very pro-electric but I'd take than beautiful wagon too.
I wonder if regenerative breaking will wear out carbon ceramics faster.
Looks are just a personal thing. The one likes it while the other hates it. 😊
How many D cells does it use
Merc has the worst looking EV cars on market.
Hyundai and kia have better looking evs.
Please !!! We need a comparison with the Amg eqs 53. Love your videos
EQC coming out?
I like it... but the dream is the e63 wagon e-performance or something. Taycan Cross Turismo is tough competition.
Will there be an EQE 63?
I love the hyperscreen!
I don't like the way it looks and I despise the hyperscreen (which, as you said, is just 3 different screens under one glass cover rather than one dashboard-shaped screen Merc wants you to think it is). Man, this is just another excuse to get a Taycan instead.
It's gorgeous, that's all.
Are there any rumours of an estate version yet ?
Rarely comment but wow. What was Merc thinking with this design for an "AMG" ? Not sure how any EV can ever be considered an AMG. Fast yes but no way to recapture the drama of a petrol engine. In EV world nearly every car becomes an "AMG" . To me AMG ceased to exist once they went EV
Exactly. Car brands will learn that the hard way.
@@hasangenc2922 I can't imagine them selling many of these to the target audience...........
@@officespaceredstapler2287 EQE AMG seems to be selling well at least here in Finland. In fact it seems to be selling even better than a C-class or E-class AMGs do.
Thanks for your honesty. Awful design (bar soap) lol 100% true.
i cant belive what mercedes has done , such a good enginiered car, ruined by a huge factor wich will affect the sale numbers , the exterior design is so bad , thank you for being honest and telling mercedes that you did a huge mistake going after number in this case aero coificent , who cares about aero when the thing is the ugly car in the entire class , i dont know any ev that is uglier than this
WHY IS THERE NO NIGHT PACKAGE
Hang on, am I quantum leaping again?...I watched this vid yesterday
That design is a total MISS by MB. I think it's going to take a few model years for the designers to figure out the aero and make it look good.
It would better explained about the designed regarding the drag coefficient. You can't have a box and expect range to be spectacular. Design a vehicle based on your merits and sell it. I am awaiting entry into the NA market...
You should have compared it more to E53 or E63s AMG cars
Absolutely agree!
I hope Mercedes improved the design for EV car, at least make it beautiful just like Porsche Taycan.
Just to think that a model X Plaid would leave this in the dust. The long way legacy automakers still have to go to get there…
Telsas are joke cars
One of the best looking cars I have ever seen, except all of those ugly screens inside.
Terrible. There is no reason to buy an AMG anymore. Taycan and e-Tron gt prove that EVs can look good. That hurts to admit as an owner of two AMGs
Sorry Honda Civic but great review
You should work as an AMG EQXX Designer
TLDW; Good: RGB lighting and fake noises. Bad: Everything else.
I have the same feeling about AMG EQE - the design is bland (trying to be kind here), it doesn't feel like an AMG. Take a away the badges you can say it's a generic Japanese or Korean family sedan. Very disappointing. 🤷♂️
What I want to know is when will Mercedes come out with a key fob that has a touchscreen on it? Like what BMW has done, already!
Reupload?
I like the technology of these cars, but never the look( especially with this color)
I just can't shake the exterior looks like a 2009 Honda Civic Si with a German bodykit..
I think I would rather have that gorgeous wagon rather than this stupid EV!
That has got to be the coolest launch control sound ever 😎😎😎
Bizarre even to use AMG namesake on new breed Merc, EV. Blows my brains
Why does the Infotainment/HMI look like the old Windows Media Player
*"THERE IS NOTHING THERE!"*
Alas, true. The price of aerodynamics is that the car has become a blob.
Its shame watching RUclips car reviewers nowadays, promoting electric cars…
