Just did my first axel replacement on my civic thanks to you guys! Manage to do it in record of time of a lil less then an hour with help from my buddy.
On your videos, you should include the issue (or possible issues/reason) that required this removal/replacement. Even better if you can demonstrate the issue. Very thorough, thanks!
I know I’m reviving a dead thread, but common issues for replacing a CV axle include normal wear and tear for an old vehicle, the environment you live in, whether or not you drive on dirt field or bumpy roads, or even the climate that you live in. These can all affect how and when the axle fails.
@@TheCrystalGlow Our 03 Civic had the older passenger side axle fail due to that poor designed rubber casing with thin metal sleeve that failed by splitting the metal and cracks at the rubber casing that joins the 2 piece axle on that side. The CV's did not fail or suffer damage; it was the old design that has been superseded by a one piece axle. 200K miles
This video was excellent and the 1A part fit perfectly. It was difficult to push the new axle into the trans but I gave it a hard push, just like he did, and it went in. Lining up the axle into the wheel bearing was a challenge but I used a variety of bars to get it in place. This is a good time to inspect brakes and wheel bearings, BTW. Thx for the torque specs.

I would like to have known the difference as well. I can’t seem to find anywhere that specifies why there is even a difference with manual and automatic cv axles
I believe it was an automatic but they're not really different installing at all just the drive shaft looks a lil different but yeah they sell both the automatic pair is for $120 and the manual ones are $150
no just the inner different designed CV cause the length need to be longer in turning. IF you have 200K miles best to pop the boot band off and wipe down with paper towels and replace the CV grease with synthetic grease and go another 120K.
Sometimes that snap ring on the splined axle is a little tight even if having been taken apart before. Line up the spline at the trans-make sure you are in position and then hold the inside CV in both hands and give it a hard straight in hit and that will hammer it in there.

@@1AAuto Appreciate the reply. Your guys videos are great thanks for making them. & I went with a new cv axle. Beat the old on out. Plus new bearing. (The wheel bearing locked it up).
There are splines on the axle end that goes into the trans. There is a metal snap ring that creates friction as the splines are engaged. So get the car high off the ground and take a 2 foot long flat end pry bar and muscle the stub shaft out of there.
+Cheng Yang Thanks for watching. If any of our viewers need to replace their axle shaft we carry them on our website. Here's a link to them, we also offer free shipping. 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
helps to keep the nut on there due to vibration that can loosen it. Mercedes has a yoke nut with Allen screw. You have the dent in the collar of the nut.
My wheel sticks out a bit and I don't know why. It's the front left wheel. The car runs but makes a bit of a clanking noise when i take off and when I stop. especially at traffic lights. Is that because I whoever changed the joint didn't put it all the way in? Or what could it be? Tire nor the frame doesn't have any signs of having sustained a hit or anything of that nature. Help.
Excellent video! However about 1,000 miles after replacing, the passenger side CV axle popped out of the transmission after I made a left turn. Is this common? How can I prevent it?
Some old high miles axles have too much wear and can do that. You may have a shorter version of the same design axle that allows the nut to come off and or the inside CV to compress too much and this could cause the axle to pop out of place. Torque on the axle nut has to be to spec or you have potential for diaster.
+Alfredo Pacheco Jr Thank you for checking us out, and the question. We are sorry that the knuckle torque was not provided. We are unable to find this specification currently, but recommend viewing a Haynes' or other service manual for the proper specification. 1aauto.com

+Jose Ortiz Thank you for the added tip! We carry the replacement axle shaft shown in this video on the website. Here is a link to them, 1aauto.com
Why did he look so confused when he said “ put the drain pan right under where the axel goes into the......... transmission ???? “ lmao !! 😂😂🤣 no Steve the axel goes into the oil pan.
Good video, but you can get the job done faster without taking off everything like brakes and moving the lines. I got the job done before the video was done. And I did not use a impact gun.
Jordan Long oooh cool what’d you end up doing?
Mine isnt released from the hub. What does this mean?
+Anthony Aeon Thanks for the question. We do not have a video pertaining to this, but there are some out there from other youtubers showing how to get a stuck cv axle out of the hub.
Why do you need to dent the nut down for
nice vid.
+Cheng Yang Thanks for watching. If any of our viewers need to replace their axle shaft we carry them on our website. Here's a link to them, we also offer free shipping. 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Why do you dent the hub nut
helps to keep the nut on there due to vibration that can loosen it. Mercedes has a yoke nut with Allen screw. You have the dent in the collar of the nut.
How to know if it needs to be replaced?
+Rolando Galan Thanks for watching! We have a video on diagnosing a bad CV axle here: ruclips.net/video/zknhHQZQnXo/видео.html
@4:51. Being with a girl for the first time xP
Help.
Check the clearances and get at the larger outside axle nut to see if you failed to torque down all the way home.
Excellent video! However about 1,000 miles after replacing, the passenger side CV axle popped out of the transmission after I made a left turn. Is this common? How can I prevent it?
Thanks for watching our video! +Jason Hood
Some old high miles axles have too much wear and can do that. You may have a shorter version of the same design axle that allows the nut to come off and or the inside CV to compress too much and this could cause the axle to pop out of place. Torque on the axle nut has to be to spec or you have potential for diaster.
disaster
The knuckle torques were skipped.
+Alfredo Pacheco Jr Thank you for checking us out, and the question. We are sorry that the knuckle torque was not provided. We are unable to find this specification currently, but recommend viewing a Haynes' or other service manual for the proper specification. 1aauto.com
what are the torques on them I'm doing my wifes car as we speak
have u heard of google
Is the other side the same procedure?
+Kevin Ramirez Thanks for watching! The other side uses a different axle, so the procedure may be a little different. 1aauto.com
Thanks for the reply def looking forward for a video of the other side 👍
Axle on passenger side is not the same
I was able to take my 32mm nuts off with a 1/4 Dewalt impact, with the little 20v battery.
