- Опубликовано: 10 май 2024
- It's been over 6 whole months since the Nothing Phone (1) was released and I decided to switch my sim card over to it once again to assess whether it is still worth purchasing here in 2023.
Enjoy!

Not many RUclipsrs cover a video about smartphones in long term usage. I personally want to use a smartphone that can deliver incredible experience in long term (not forever). Brilliant video you've made Sam! The quality is amazing✨ I enjoyed it.
i aslo want it but in my country its just EXPENSIVE
This is the perfect Android phone imo for long term usage
@@adityajoglekar7873 Why do you think that way?
pixel the beast!
@@JustRob2024how much?
I think selfie cam position is fine. I actually used to prefer centered ones for symmetry but after trying some phones like that I changed my mind. It disturbs you more in normal usage and its more noticeable for watching content. Cornered cams are like TV channel logos, they are barely catching your attention while watching something.
I would agree that corner hole punch are better and I've never even used one. Just more out of the way.
Yaaa especially when you use it in landscape with the camera side pointing down, your hand probably covers that area of screen as well
Depends on the use. There’s a reason why selfie cams have basically always been center (look at the iPhone and almost every other device) and I would personally hate having it in the corner because of the way I grip the phone, which covers some left and right top corners, covering the camera
Corner punch out is better 👌
I have been using phones where the front cam is in the corner all my life
when a phone has a centered cam its a reason for me not to buy it, its really distracting while using the phone
Great vid, Sam!
It’s great that you are keeping this kind of segment, the long term review, as it helps not only us tech savvy folls to know how one device holds up after a few months, but also gives people a helping in choosing what phone to get and how it keeps up to date. Not everyone can spend a big amount of money to get the latest and greatest, and sometimes, the latest ain’t the greatest.
Awesome job and big thumbs up!
I don't know if I'm the only one who likes the camera cutout in left. For me, it's the best symmetry decision for a phone's front cam position. The middle ones seem a little unnerving lol. Not flattered by the glyph interface but boi that iphonesque shape has become my favorite type of grip in smartphones.
us 🤖
I would just like for the hole to vanish. They better innovate better under display cameras.
I also prefer the selfie camera off center, seems better looking and less distracting.
8 billion people on the planet, so how likely is it that you are 'the only one'?
@@Kameleonic You're absolutely right. That was pretty narcissistic of me. Working on it bro.
I am so glad someone else mentioned the lack of a One-Handed Mode on this device. That feature is native to Android 12 and 13, so it being omitted or removed on purpose is a bizarre decision for Nothing on such a large device.
It has the one handed mode nowadays
I've been using mine for almost 2 months now. I've switched from iPhone 7 and honestly, 120hz display cured my eyes. The phone UI is so minimalistic, 120hz makes the phone very responsive and smooth. Got mine for 450$, 256 GB 8RAM, almost latest snapdragon and 120hz, etc.. I think the phone is incredible. The camera is also really good and would recommend this phone to anyone who doesn't want to pay 1200$ for a flagship and brand.
How about the gallery, they say nothing phone (1) doesn't have a gallery, is it hard to not have it?
@@mikaaree not at all. its use the google photo app which imo, better than a dedicated gallery app since you can backup your photo onto your google account as well.
@@miru2583 but I think it would be hard for me that are not used to use the google photos, what do you think?
@@mikaaree well, everything there is, is from Google, calender, phone caller, messages, google maps, google meet, google wallet, google one etc...
Everything works normally, it just takes some time to get used to it.
If it just had a headphone jack.
I don't want to spend extra money on some Bluetooth headphones.
Wow! Im baffled by the production value of your videos Sam! Terrific job, I'm really looking forward to your next videos
Thank you for uploading your videos in a modern aspect ratio ❤️
subscribed for the quality of this video! review comes second but still! Top notch!
I personally love the location of the selfie camera...I find it much less intrusive.
Off-topic, what computer keyboard are you using? (shown in 1:07)
I love it how all feedbacks were fixable for a flagship phone, except the camera optimization.
For the cameras I agree it needs improvement but for a mid ranged the haptic are pretty good, fingerprint sensors ppease do what xiaomi used to do. If you can't do in screen sensors good then do power button side mounted ones there are plenty of good ones out there.
I don't get this obsession with wireless charging. Oneplus has insanely fast charging speed, does wireless charging even matter if you can charge your phone to last the entire day in 15 minutes?
Yeah i think wireless charging is overrated but it also can be used to charge your headphones, someone else's phone or someone else can charge your phone. Not a big downside for op11 since it provides you 8gen2 for a pretty good price but normally its a cool feature to have.
(Copying this from my reply to qnother comment) If you hang out with colleagues after work, go for a night out, you'd understand. Having a wireless charging pad on my desk at work makes it so I always leave work with a full battery and I'll last until I'll inevitably come home at 3am.
Also, the level of laziness of placing your phone or earbuds on a wireless charger and forgetting about them is really nice. No need to fumble about for wires. By having a dedicated spot to put my phone and earbuds makes me less likely to forget to charge, especially if you come home drunk. The friction of reaching for wires is absolutely something that can get in the way of remembering to charge your phone.
Creators with their Teslas and their wireless pads is cool for the lucky ones. But as you say, the vast majority of us could not care less, driving my 10-year-old VW Passat. It has never been hassle plugging a phone in but being older, maybe the latest gens find that too much?
Works well in cars when you're doing satnav and Spotify.....
Bec believe it or not, some people are busy and some have social lives and not stuck in a house w a cable charger.
So.. bringing ang magnetic wireless powerbank makes life a whole lot easier. And makes your phone last 2-3 days without even looking for a socket or cables.
Great vid sam. I'm surprised you didn't find the limitations of the glyph interface as something you'd like improved. I've been dailying this phone for a while and that's my biggest gripe. If I could set each individual glyph to a certain app notification that would make them actually useful, but as it stands, they're basically all form and no function.
you actually can. just set them in notification setting.
Yes, a telephoto lens is much needed. Plus, having to record at 4K 60fps on both main and selfie cameras would be great.
Yeah 4k30 is pretty underwhelming. Selfie cam being 1080p30 is even more underwhelming. I actually never use selfie cam for video but this still feels bad to not being able to capture at 1080p60.
4K 60FPS desperately needed
I hope that Nothing keep the same sort of design for their new phone as this phone 1 looks aesthetically the best i've seen from a phone
I agree, been 4 months and its rock solid, lasting me more than a day according to my usage and still having enough charge at the end of the day to watch a movie! A long one even! absolutely love this device, and seriously the smoothest android experience ive gotten after the 7 pro!
My concerns are about the features and personalizations..is it possible to see the download/upload data on the top bar? Is it possible to clone apps like whatsapp and telegram in order to use more account from the same phone?
What about the photos? Is it hard to not have a gallery despite having a google photos?
@@mikaaree tbh it doesn't really matter lol
@@LevenZ69 it is matter for those people that not used to use the google photos like me, lol
@@mikaaree bruh it's good and it had Google gallery in it, still has all the editing options you will get out of a normal gallery or photo editor
One of the best budget phones with a premium feel and nice experience. I've had mine since launch. Switched from IPhone 11. Don't regret
How about the gallery, they say nothing phone (1) doesn't have a gallery, is it hard to not have it?
how do you think the cameras compare, especially the front cameras?
Cool 😎 1st hearing, seeing your "Nothing" model. Spent some time de-googling and de samsunging my Droid 13 Galaxy S22 fe 5G the best possible and "nothing" could come closer to your Nothing Model! Definitely gonna take a closer look! 🧐 😎
on your pixel 7 and 7pro three months later video, where did you get those wallpapers?
I actually bought a used Nothing Phone 1, I sold it because, when I try to shoot a 4K video longer than 10 minutes with the flash on. It would turn off the flash, as it was getting hot. My requirement is to use the flash while recording. However, overall love the phone.
2:14 Great video, but I also like that nifty gadget on your desk with the mini keyboard, What is it? And where can I get one myself?
Few components have moved slightly inside the back panel of my NP1 and have created asymmetry. I guess their glue pastings have worn out somehow 🙄 just last month's purchase!
New wallpaper pack 😍😍
sold mine and got back with the pixel phone and now using the pixel 7. The only thing i love about NP1 is the battery, design and the Glyp but I'm lacking the speed and camera. The phone is sluggish for me compared to my pixel 7.
how so a 1080p screen in 2023, barely 90hz idk i just think that it's a bit old gen stuck
@@HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA its a bit more laggy in np1. I'm still using my p7 and loving it.
I'd like to buy this phone soon but I've heard that the battery is difficult to replace. Will conventional phone repairers change batteries in them? Or do I send it back to nothing when needing a new battery?
I really enjoy my NP1. Not gonna lie I don't use glyph at all. But for the price this phone is unrivalled. Build quality is great, flat screen with equal bezels, selfie that's not intrusive when streaming, good battery life, wireless and reverse wireless charging, and the fact that Nothing are constantly working on NothingOS is great unlike many other brands. The only real downside was A13 took longer then it really should have to arrive. But when it did it was fantastic. There's other things too like the new weather app, ability the choose full screen in the display settings for any app so the camera section isn't cut out. And even though it's fairly stock android, you can still hide the search bar. All these things together help to make it's a really solid experience that's uniform. And if your coming from an iOS device then you gain always on display without paying the earth, similar ergonomics to iPhone, you gain reverse charging, True customisation and full widget's. It's one of the best phones on android for the money and in many ways beats pixel at the same price with bigger screen and 120hrz amoled. Glad I bought mine.
Does your phone heats on normal usage?
I got my nothing phone yesterday and it heats, even after updating it to latest version

What about the glyph interface does it actually worked for you
2:51 where is this wallpaper from?
My personal 3 are:
1: 3rd Rear Camera but designed similarly to Samsung's S23 Plus but with the nothing design language.
2: Charging Speed: I Timed My Nothing Phone and it took 1 hr 20 min to go from empty to full with a 45W Charger. The phone can only utilize 33W and if it were bumped up to 80W it would be a dream to own as the phone would charge up in 30 min tops.

I was looking to buy a new phone this year because my 7 year old Xiaomi phone is slowly dying. Around 2 months it's been I'm looking to the right product and right price and I was considering Poco F5 because it's a true bargain. But now I'm totally waiting for Nothing Phone (2).
well guess I'll hold on with my 11 ne 5g then

On stock Android phones I always miss an option to lock the homescreen layout which is there on phones like Samsung, OnePlus and most third party launchers. People might say that I am just using my phone in the wrong way but I always have moving icons to the most undesired places. I prefer not to use a third party launcher, certainly not - I think- with the Nothing phone.
Guys ,which charger to use for my Np1? I want to buy Samsung 25w,is it ok for the phone?

I was able to get my hands on one here in the USA through the beta program that they offered us I'm here in st George Southern Utah and I use a T-Mobile SIM card I did 5G excellent service and excellent signal strength and even with my Verizon SIM card I did pretty good signal strength and service but no 5G luckily it came with the Android 13 update and I must say this phone is buttery-smooth I really enjoy using this phone and my main SIM card has been in it since I received it over a month ago I got this phone for $299.00 and at that price you can't beat I highly recommend this phone for anyone who wants a flagship like experience for a reasonable price like you said cameras and video are the weak point. And battery life is amazing I get 7 to 10 hours of on screen time on a daily basis and standby time is pretty awesome too 👍👍👍👍

Yet the selfie camera position is perfect, in the short video you showed while in a call i actually prefer to have the camera top right and my little live view top right as well. Bacause i don't really need to see myself, plus honestly how much do you even use it compared to watching something on your phone?
The only problem this phone had was the CPU and RAM combo.

Was torn between this and a Pixel 6A. The camera on the pixel, obviously better. But the lack of wireless charging on the Pixel is a deal breaker. So many companies say its not important but I wont buy a phone now without it.

Why would you still need the fingerprint sensor when your face has already been registered? it's the reason why they remove it, if they won't remove it then people will just keep on clicking the fingerprint sensor even though it's already unlocked.

Aw man hard disagree on two changes you asked for. I like the size of the bezels, I like having I bit of something to hold on to. Also, the front camera being off to the side and out of the way is preferable until the can completely hide it
I have used the Nothing Phone for awhile now and Im not sure why a lot of reviewers prefer the camera to be in the middle because it always catches your attention no matter what you're doing, and especially when watching videos. The battery life on this device after updates have been fantastic and the camera has gotten improvements. However, the camera quality still is lacking but it is decent enough for a mid-range device, so don't expect top quality images. The display is beautiful, haptics are great and speakers are good too. One big complaint i have however is that my Nothing Phone still has quite a decent amount of bugs which Im not sure if im the only one experiencing since many reviewers dont talk about this. I do experience the occasional app freezing, fingerprint scanner not recognizing my fingerprint (i have to lock and unlock the screen again to make it work) and the worst bug i have is when i take a quick photo and hit home immediately, the camera app doesnt save my photo fast enough so i always find that my photo isnt in my gallery. But after using many devices before, i still can say this device is one of the most satisfying devices to use because of the design, great battery life, and good performance.
