Warthog and WinWing are both in stock right now!
I ordered the Orion, last night as soon as the countdown ended on their site. What a cluster F. As for the Warthog A10C throttle sticking, I can confirm that their F/A18 stick does not have that issue. It also has a second click for the trigger. It's one smooth sucker. That said, I'll be using that for a VR co-pilot, as soon as the WinWing is delivered.

When I was in the Army I was a helicopter mechanic. When I was deployed to the Gulf War 1, I was working on AH-1's. One of our pilots was a firm believer in if you work on it you fly in it. So I got to go out on test flights riding front seat. Long story long, he would let us take the countrols. The thing I noticed more than anything is the Stick doesn't move at all. If you tried to yank it like you would fix wing you would end up upside down on the deck.

Not sure that a more than 10 year old premium HOTAS has much chance against a brand new design. Virpil and VKB revolutionised consumer flightsim gear in my view. Would be better to compare to those two. Winwing appear to have been, let's say, very strongly "inspired" by VKB/Virpil in that special way that Chinese companies often are.

As someone who has been using a thrustmaster for years now I do like the fact that they have brought out a more "traditional" style of hotas system where you dont need to do any fancy things when it comes to mounting stuff to your desk. definatly a more accessible and easy to set up system where you basically just place it down on the table plug it in and enjoy. (this is more a comparison between the Orion vs super libra) if Winwing wanted a direct comparison product then making there own A10 stick and throttle would be good. I feel like its a little bit difficult to compare the throttles together as one is an A10 the other is an F18 so how many buttons one has i think is a little irrelevant as if the real A10 throttle has 12 buttons on it then adding buttons for the sake of adding more buttons then doesnt make it an A10 throttle anymore. comparing the flimsiness of buttons and switches however is something to compare and some of the buttons/hat switches do feel a little loose on my A10 throttle. I think for those people who are moving up from a basic hotas or even just a 3d pro which i used back when i first got into sims then grabbing the newer product might be a better option (Winwing Orion) but in the end it also just comes down to what aircraft you like. would you like an A10c or F18 stick and throttle. My stick is slowly starting to show signs of ware and tare where the cable has opened a little and ive put tape round it. so a new stick is in order for me. With RAZBAM showing off pictures of the F15E which uses a similar stick to the F18c i think i know what stick i might get in future.

I think it is important to maintain credibility and it seems to me that you are not doing it in this video. I am not going to debate your conclusions because I have not compared the products, I am a Thrustmaster user and I'm very happy with the product but I'm also sure that Winwing is a quality product. However, the reference price that you're using for the Thrustmaster Warthog corresponds to one of many resellers who are speculating on shortages. We all know that its standard price is US 499. In addition, those of us who are following you know that you have been sponsored by Winwing for some time, something that I think is fantastic and just because of your time and your work, however, I think that, deliberately, you didn't include the sponsorship notice at the beginning. In short, you are entitled to have an biased opinion according to your interests but you make me doubt about your conclusions. Best regards and thank you for the time you spend creating DCS content.

As I said in the video, I have been a Warthog user for 10 years, very happy with it and it has obviously stood the test if time. Although I have had to replace the weapon release button, upgrade the TDC slew from the rubbish nipple thing and re-solder a poor connection in the stick base, I would still happily recommend the Thrustmaster as a great bit of kit, however the Winwing Orion, being of a similar price, just seems to me to be a bit better. (just my opinion). Obviously there are more expensive and arguably better quality products out there, as many have said in these comments, Virpil etc. I also use a Virpil WarBRD base with the Thrustmaster F18 grip, again all excellent gear, but not in the same price range as the Winwing Orion.

I paid 350€ (don’t know in $ maybe 417?) my hotas warthog few years ago and I’m very happy with it.
Some remarks on the warthog seems to me a little unfair about the quality when you compare to a X-52 or X-55, a more common brand than specialized ones like winwing and the others, but the one on the middle position of the stick about that « clutch » or whatever is specialy true.
Note that you need to test the F/A-18C addon grip for the warthog, for me it’s night and day in every domain against the A10/F16 one.
For me it’s that, learn on how to use a hotas on a warthog if your bank is ok then go on more specialised brand like winwing, VKB or Virpil.
If I start serious DCS stuff will I choose a warthog ? Definitely yes.
If my hotas died, do I’ll buy a warthog again ? Maybe not, maybe I’ll go for a VKB because they had a F-14 stick 😎
Anyways a great video from GR, very pro and impartial but it’s not a surprise with that Dream team.
Fly safe buddies and full Afterburner on !

I ordered the Orion as soon as the "in-stock" notice happened (had to use the US site because the China site was getting hammered). I also went ahead and ordered the extension since Kelso said it would work. My order is scheduled to arrive on April 1st.
I am just now getting into DCS but I find it really difficult to learn without a throttle so I went for something good to start. If I simply can't get into the game, I'll sell it :). I figured I wanted to learn with the extension because that seems more natural to me. Although, I guess F18 pilots transitioning into F35 have to learn to go to a shorter throw stick.
Now, I need to figure out what I want to do for Rudder Pedals...

As long as you watch those tutorials, it wont be that hard~
Also, my little advice, If you only fly f-18 and any other modules which has less buttons on stick, the f-18 stick like winwing or any other stick with f-18 grip are totally fine, but if you are going to fly modules with even more complicated HOTAS system, which means more buttons on stick, better just go get TM warthog stick, virpil or vkb GF PRO. Bc, As long as you get used to hotas system, these hotas buttons will be frequently used during intense flight and fight. It's also the same thing to the throttle.
Pedals are important and price around 200 dollars is good to buy. I will spend more on pedals bc it brings more advantages in dogfight. What about VKB pedals, It's a nice one, you can also find other brand but i will say stay away from Logitech bc of the uncertain product qulity and duration. TM pedals is good but just for entry unless you get their top end pedals which will be extremely expensive.

Great comparison, just what I was looking for!
I thing of note though, I don't think it was mentioned in the video, at least I didn't pick it up. But that Thrustmaster Warthog throttle has been modified.
Sadly its a very much needed modification to the POV "hat" axis on the front of the throttle (second from the right).
On the original there is a small ball, like a miniature trackball design. And its the only POV hat that is analogue on the throttle.
And its really bad. It goes all over the place and sometimes gets stuck. Many people change it to a stick instead similar to the analogue sticks on an Xbox/PS gamepad. Its the only way to use that function.

If you think about it, Winwing has had a long time to "get it right", and Warthog has been out for over a decade. So it's pretty much comparing generations of the HOTAS systems. Of course Warthog takes the dings, because it's a lot older. Another thing: Thrustmaster has gouged its prices since the pandemic - note the $800+ price tag! Bought my set for just at $500. Winwing's prices have remained constant.

    2) I've bought the F18 add-on stick for the Warthog. It has a VERY firm second detent on the trigger. If anything too firm! With this F18 stick you are then comparing like for like, and also to the real F18.
    3) Unfortunately you never did spend time getting used to the Warthog stick (with a simple cheap extension) so really haven't felt how good it can be.
It does sound as if the Winwing sticks offer a little more functionality, but the only useful bit seems to be the 'pseudo analogue' action on the stick 8-way 'buttons'. This could easily be reproduced with a firmware change by Thrustmaster or an in game option.
I bought my Warthog stick, throttle and F18 add-on grip brand new and love them ❤️🙂
I appreciate that you are sponsored by Winwing and get the sticks for free. Sounds good if you can get it.

the x-55 (maybe the x-56, not sure) was known for having problems with this, the cable were to tight, and moving the throttles back and forth would tug and rip one or more cables.
I think this outside cable is a good thing. The orion overall looks a lot better than the warthog hotas. I'd love to see the insides (the warthog is all cheap plastic with loose tolertances and a stack of bars of steel screwed on 2 steel base plate to make it weigh more)
