To be exact, it was SF2 that "standardized" the fighting genre. The first SF was just an experiment. They still didn't have a fighting genre archetype when they developed it and it was shit at that time too. It didn't save any industry XD

I'll have to disagree with Sonic Fighters, I liked it. They need to make a new one but with more combos and what not make it as fun as Power Stone. Also I thought Cartoon Network should also have a sequel but a big upgrade in the roster, backgrounds, fix the bugs, make it better ig you could say. Let's see if Shaq Fu can redeem itself(we need another Power Stone game for the new consoles)
cody burt when Maximilian played this in YoVideogames, i found It an entertaining Game tho. It was ok. Same for Castlevania, which is fun, and the only problems i may get are the designs (which although arent bad) they do not reassemble the character. Even so, Judement has a good gameplay, and hell, It even has its own community AND tier list! Its a good Game tho. Just with a weird choice for character design
My complaint about Punch Time Explosion is that the CPUs in 1v1v1s or more always act like a team against you rather than another person. It’s more of a beat-em-up than a fighter.

Okay, let me go on a case by case response because I don't want to automatically lose my point by attacking who made this. 10- Castlevania Judgement is a basic but very solid game, with no real gameplay issues at its core, aside from ultimates being too long and powerful compared to how easy they are to pull off. Playing it with gamecube controllers, much like smash, is mandatory, though the control scheme, I admit, is not perfect. You might not like the art style, you do you, but do you think one gimmicky control option and one subjective style shouldn't make a solid as hell game hit a top 10 worst anything. 9- this game is graphically lazy and dumb so it's definitely the worst ever. You even admit that the gameplay itself isn't even bad, it's just mediocre. 8- okay I admit CN punchtime explosion is bad, have that one. Not fun, not solid, lazy... I don't have problems with what you said. 7- don't you ever say that Sonic the fighters is remotely bad. The only bad things that game ever did was being a dumb concept and being perhaps not too varied. You didn't even take your time to understand the game (don't worry, you're the same as a lot of people). If you say it's a mindless buttonmasher, you might as well say smash bros is. 6- I again give you this one, it's pretty bad, but if you put some more effort into research you would know there's so much worse shit out there. You're saying it's unbalanced and "maybe it was made that way to take your money", you even say there's only one playable character (invalidating the fact that it's unbalanced) without acknowledging that every arcade game at the time was designed that way. What, you're telling me I need 20 hits to kill this beat'em'up boss but he only needs 5? 5- come on, Teras Kasi isn't worse than Street Fighter. A bad celebrity based game in an era when those were popular, and you give it the first spot because you don't understand it? That's dumb. Actually, that's a fair point, but when I say he didn't take time to understand it, it doesn't necessarily mean the game is hard to get. Criticising it for being a buttonmasher would be like finding out an arcade cabinet for SF2 and saying it's broken because you can't understand the rock-paper-scissors (block-grab-punch) mechanic the game is based on, because you can't figure out how to grab. It's not easy to see what's good about a game that looks as corny and simple as Sonic the fighters, but at its core, the controls are simple, the mechanics are solid and the gameplay is good, as long as the people who are playing get it. But, I agree, the game doesn't do the best job at teaching you how to play it correctly. Kinda like SSBM, if you want to play at an efficient level, you better figure out how everything works, because the game won't tell you (though unlike melee, this gameplay isn't based on exploits). There's a very interesting video called "why sonic the fighters is competitive" or something like that. I think it's a good watch if you want to get an in-depth look as to why people like me defend it.

I don't know what it is about your delivery, but none of these jokes land. I got 9 minutes in and didn't even crack a smile. The overwhelmingly cynical nature of it all didn't help. Guys like Jim Sterling get away with it because they have that tone in their voice that lets you know they're in on the joke. It makes them charming. You come across like you're being genuinely spiteful towards everybody and everything, and while I know this word is overused, it feels...edgy. Mean-spirited just for the sake of it. Just my two cents.
Nah that's completely fair. I can see how I come across like that. I'm not the biggest fan of my snarkiness sometimes too, but whenever I attempt to dial the snark back a bit I think I go *too* far back, and being too nice in a video with "Worst" in the title doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I bumped it up a peg for this video given the material, but I think in general I usually try to find a good balance. I dunno. But thanks for giving me a shot anyway!
I actually played Street Fighter 1 and, surprise of the century, I made it to Sagat. And I noticed something strange about the special moves: they’re reversed. To do a special move, you enter the joystick movement AFTER you press a button, not before like we’re used to, and you have to enter the joystick movement while Ryu is in his punching or kicking startup frame, and that means you have to do it faster than you can enter a Mishima Electric Wind God Fist. But that confusion isn’t the reason the game is hard, hell no. The game is hard because as you progress through the game, your opponents get faster and physically stronger than you. You’ll start to notice the speed increase after you beat Mike and face Lee, since, I kid you not, Lee and Gen just jump all over the place and do flying kicks. And Ryu’s HP and HK startups are so slow you can’t hit them, and the LP and LK attacks are so pathetic that they might as well have been guarding your attack. Achieving the special moves correctly rewards you by dealing an insane amount of damage, but the Tatsumaki hardly ever hits, the Shoryuken is probably the rarest move you’ll see happen, and although you can pretty much throw a hadoken all the time after you get used to the special move input, it only works for some enemies. I noticed that they hit these opponents the most: Retsu, Geki, Joe, Mike, Lee, Birdie, and Adon. Sagat almost always blocks it and he can kick your ass by hitting you four times, excluding his special moves, and he’s twice as fast as Gen. I said I made it to Sagat. I never said I beat him.
Tbh, I honestly like Sonic the Fighters. Sure, it doesn't have much in depth in terms of technicality, but it's always been a bit of a guilty pleasure for me XD

Here's a mediocre one I found: The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy ... Yes that's all the name is. It's a 3D fighting game, but it feels more like a beat em up. It has a fun mission mode and it pays some nice credit to the show. And it might squeeze a chuckle out of you... And that's everything positive. It's just bland. All 15 characters have the same moves, the 7 stages range from alright to bad, healing items spawn way too much, and the mission mode Isn't actually THAT good. It's a nice distraction for the weekend if you want to unlock everything, but it's nothing too special.
NanoPhoenix To me the series didn't need all the sequels bud. XD I'll help ya. Ultimate Alien was good, it was pretty much Alien Force but a shmidge more darker. Omniverse brought back the 1st series tone but had some tastes of dark every now and then, and it pretty much brought back characters from the previous series. Didn't miss much though. 😁

I thought Castlevania Judgment was amazing when I played it, but I will admit that I played it a long time ago, and I used the Gamecube controller when I played it. I thought the characters handled great, the 3D fighting aspects were top notch, and I even didn't mind the character design much (besides Simon, and his stupid shorts). I will FREELY admit that the finishers go on for too long though.
Prince Vegeta In my opinion, the first one was great, alien force was pretty good, ultimate alien was average, omniverse was not that good, and we don’t need to talk about the garbage that was the reboot. Basically good up until omniverse.

I liked the bit about how this list could be all MK clones (klones?) because I totally thought that from the beginning. Kasumi Ninja isn't a bad choice to represent them, but I probably would've gone with Tattoo Assassins, which wasn't even finished. But you gotta do some more digging, because there are MUCH worse fighting games than many on this list. So much worse haha. And while I agree with Shaq Fu's inclusion, I don't agree it should be #1. I don't think it's the worst game on this list. I always realized it was bad, but truth be told I actually had some fun with it, which can't be said about other fighters like Rise of the Robots, Fight for Life (another Jaguar gem that could arguably be #1), 3D Ballz, and many more. And I dunno why you're so stumped as to why it was made, the answer is pretty simple: Shaq was insanely popular at the time. Someone's really popular, you milk their name for all you can; it's an age-old tradition in entertainment. It's how Jordan got his own (horrible) action game, how 50 Cent got his own (surprisingly not so horrible) action game, and why athletes and celebs in general are attached to games. They just decided it'd be a fighting game for Shaq, which is really quite a bit less ridiculous than Michael Jordan hurling elementally charged basketballs at robots and aliens with basketballs for heads haha.

About#10, maybe just a little correction: the game actually had non-motion controls as an option... Thank goodness. To add to your reasoning for #1, this game was made to coincide with the release of Order of Ecclesia for DS. It also featured the ability to unlock Shanoa from the get-go (instead of unlocking her normally) as well as giving you powerful items in the DS game. The character design is what REALLY bugs me... I mean, sure, have a talented artist design characters, but good grief, MAKE IT OPTIONAL! They could have made it a 2nd player costume. I mentioned Shanoa, and guess what: THEY CUT HER HAIR! I know that the Wii wasn't a graphic powerhouse, but why not just tying her hair in a knob? Also, you... forgot to mention the online mode... yeah, the Wii wasn't that great for that either :P Finally, where were Jonathan, Charlotte, Richter, Albus and Soma?

Shrek 1 and 2 are actually some of my favorite movies of all time, granted they are nowhere near my love for spider-man homecoming, Wall-e, and monty python and the holy grail but shrek 2 was i film i loved from my childhood, and still do. I even watched all the shrek films for 4 days, 1 per film, with my youngest brother, much like how my dad showed me his old tapes of the original star-wars trilogy, which were even the pre special edition ones. anyway, i still love the shrek films (minus the 3rd one) To this day, even if it has a cringy fandom. I also have grown to love short circuit and its sequel.

14:35 Six times, actually. The first was with Guilty Gear, proving that a 2D Fighter can work on the Playstation console. The second was with Guilty Gear X and X2 for not only inspiring the many anime style sprite work in fighting games but also keeping the fighting game genre alive. The third is Blazblue showing that they can still make awesome fighting games even when the rights to Guilty Gear is gone. And the forth time is with Guilty Gear Xrd which is not only a homecoming to their long running franchise but also proof that they can make fighting games look and feel like an anime.

Funny thing is, the "Smash isn't a fighting game" meme is technically correct, but only in the sense if "Smash Bros is not the same genre as Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat". Obviously that's not what people mean when they're saying that, but nobody really wants to hash out the details either way. I think it's like calling the Metal Gear games "Shooters". Shooting occurs and is an important mechanic in all of them, but there's more around it and if you feel like playing anything you would conventionally describe as "A Shooter", you wouldn't be reaching for anything called "Metal Gear" most likely.

Especially Sonic The Fighters. It was aimed at younger players so it was intentionally made to play like a simplified Fighting Vipers. There are plenty of terrible fighting games that belong on this list (Rise Of The Robots on Sega Genesis for example, which is virtually unplayable) but Sonic isn't one of them.

It's not just that it was a blando commando Smash Bros rip-off, at a time when there was no shortage of Smash Bros. clones. They DIDN'T EVEN USE THE REAL VOICES FROM THE SHOWS! Contrast that with the Power Stone inspired Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, which is hugely faithful to the cartoon and uses most of the proper voice cast.
A Blob My entire experience with the game is "I'll press thi- oh god what the fuck is going on" It feels wonky and hard to control. Say what you will about Sonic Battle, but at least that game had tight and responsive controls. Sonic the Fighters is an average game with little to no control. Thus giving it a 4/10 as a game. Fun as hell, and enjoyment wise it gets a 7/10, but as far as good games go, it isn't one in my opinion
I genuinely want a sequel to Castlevania Judgement. It could be great with the right team and the right control scheme. Masters of Teräs Käsi also deserves another shot, but I know for a fact it would still be horrible through no fault of its own, but EA

I'll have to disagree with Sonic Fighters, I liked it. They need to make a new one but with more combos and what not make it as fun as Power Stone. Also I thought Cartoon Network should also have a sequel but a big upgrade in the roster, backgrounds, fix the bugs, make it better ig you could say. Let's see if Shaq Fu can redeem itself(we need another Power Stone game for the new consoles)

My complaint about Punch Time Explosion is that the CPUs in 1v1v1s or more always act like a team against you rather than another person. It’s more of a beat-em-up than a fighter.

Okay, let me go on a case by case response because I don't want to automatically lose my point by attacking who made this.
10- Castlevania Judgement is a basic but very solid game, with no real gameplay issues at its core, aside from ultimates being too long and powerful compared to how easy they are to pull off. Playing it with gamecube controllers, much like smash, is mandatory, though the control scheme, I admit, is not perfect. You might not like the art style, you do you, but do you think one gimmicky control option and one subjective style shouldn't make a solid as hell game hit a top 10 worst anything.
9- this game is graphically lazy and dumb so it's definitely the worst ever. You even admit that the gameplay itself isn't even bad, it's just mediocre.
8- okay I admit CN punchtime explosion is bad, have that one. Not fun, not solid, lazy... I don't have problems with what you said.
7- don't you ever say that Sonic the fighters is remotely bad. The only bad things that game ever did was being a dumb concept and being perhaps not too varied. You didn't even take your time to understand the game (don't worry, you're the same as a lot of people). If you say it's a mindless buttonmasher, you might as well say smash bros is.
6- I again give you this one, it's pretty bad, but if you put some more effort into research you would know there's so much worse shit out there. 2- I almost freaked out thinking you were gonna diss SSS. But again, interesting spot on the list. Almost every game boy fighting game was trash, like this one. The Street Fighter II port was so bad, for example.

Actually, that's a fair point, but when I say he didn't take time to understand it, it doesn't necessarily mean the game is hard to get. Criticising it for being a buttonmasher would be like finding out an arcade cabinet for SF2 and saying it's broken because you can't understand the rock-paper-scissors (block-grab-punch) mechanic the game is based on, because you can't figure out how to grab. It's not easy to see what's good about a game that looks as corny and simple as Sonic the fighters, but at its core, the controls are simple, the mechanics are solid and the gameplay is good, as long as the people who are playing get it. But, I agree, the game doesn't do the best job at teaching you how to play it correctly. Kinda like SSBM, if you want to play at an efficient level, you better figure out how everything works, because the game won't tell you (though unlike melee, this gameplay isn't based on exploits).
There's a very interesting video called "why sonic the fighters is competitive" or something like that. I think it's a good watch if you want to get an in-depth look as to why people like me defend it.

I don't know what it is about your delivery, but none of these jokes land. I got 9 minutes in and didn't even crack a smile.
The overwhelmingly cynical nature of it all didn't help. Guys like Jim Sterling get away with it because they have that tone in their voice that lets you know they're in on the joke. It makes them charming. You come across like you're being genuinely spiteful towards everybody and everything, and while I know this word is overused, it feels...edgy. Mean-spirited just for the sake of it. Just my two cents.
Nah that's completely fair. I can see how I come across like that. I'm not the biggest fan of my snarkiness sometimes too, but whenever I attempt to dial the snark back a bit I think I go *too* far back, and being too nice in a video with "Worst" in the title doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I bumped it up a peg for this video given the material, but I think in general I usually try to find a good balance. I dunno. But thanks for giving me a shot anyway!
I actually played Street Fighter 1 and, surprise of the century, I made it to Sagat. And I noticed something strange about the special moves: they’re reversed. To do a special move, you enter the joystick movement AFTER you press a button, not before like we’re used to, and you have to enter the joystick movement while Ryu is in his punching or kicking startup frame, and that means you have to do it faster than you can enter a Mishima Electric Wind God Fist.
But that confusion isn’t the reason the game is hard, hell no. The game is hard because as you progress through the game, your opponents get faster and physically stronger than you. You’ll start to notice the speed increase after you beat Mike and face Lee, since, I kid you not, Lee and Gen just jump all over the place and do flying kicks. And Ryu’s HP and HK startups are so slow you can’t hit them, and the LP and LK attacks are so pathetic that they might as well have been guarding your attack.
Achieving the special moves correctly rewards you by dealing an insane amount of damage, but the Tatsumaki hardly ever hits, the Shoryuken is probably the rarest move you’ll see happen, and although you can pretty much throw a hadoken all the time after you get used to the special move input, it only works for some enemies. I noticed that they hit these opponents the most: Retsu, Geki, Joe, Mike, Lee, Birdie, and Adon. Sagat almost always blocks it and he can kick your ass by hitting you four times, excluding his special moves, and he’s twice as fast as Gen.
I said I made it to Sagat. I never said I beat him.
I discovered that you can beat Sagat by kneeling and mashing the punch button.
Tbh, I honestly like Sonic the Fighters. Sure, it doesn't have much in depth in terms of technicality, but it's always been a bit of a guilty pleasure for me XD

Ken and Ryu play identically in the original version of Street Fighter II as well. So by your logic, that game only has 7 playable characters.

It's a 3D fighting game, but it feels more like a beat em up.
It has a fun mission mode and it pays some nice credit to the show. And it might squeeze a chuckle out of you...
And that's everything positive.
It's just bland. All 15 characters have the same moves, the 7 stages range from alright to bad, healing items spawn way too much, and the mission mode Isn't actually THAT good.
It's a nice distraction for the weekend if you want to unlock everything, but it's nothing too special.

Omniverse brought back the 1st series tone but had some tastes of dark every now and then, and it pretty much brought back characters from the previous series. Didn't miss much though. 😁

I thought Castlevania Judgment was amazing when I played it, but I will admit that I played it a long time ago, and I used the Gamecube controller when I played it.
I thought the characters handled great, the 3D fighting aspects were top notch, and I even didn't mind the character design much (besides Simon, and his stupid shorts). I will FREELY admit that the finishers go on for too long though.

Like I said I more or less had the same complaints across most of the games and Sonic was the last segment I wrote so admittedly I kinda ran out of energy by that point lol

I liked the bit about how this list could be all MK clones (klones?) because I totally thought that from the beginning. Kasumi Ninja isn't a bad choice to represent them, but I probably would've gone with Tattoo Assassins, which wasn't even finished. But you gotta do some more digging, because there are MUCH worse fighting games than many on this list. So much worse haha.
And while I agree with Shaq Fu's inclusion, I don't agree it should be #1. I don't think it's the worst game on this list. I always realized it was bad, but truth be told I actually had some fun with it, which can't be said about other fighters like Rise of the Robots, Fight for Life (another Jaguar gem that could arguably be #1), 3D Ballz, and many more. And I dunno why you're so stumped as to why it was made, the answer is pretty simple: Shaq was insanely popular at the time. Someone's really popular, you milk their name for all you can; it's an age-old tradition in entertainment. It's how Jordan got his own (horrible) action game, how 50 Cent got his own (surprisingly not so horrible) action game, and why athletes and celebs in general are attached to games. They just decided it'd be a fighting game for Shaq, which is really quite a bit less ridiculous than Michael Jordan hurling elementally charged basketballs at robots and aliens with basketballs for heads haha.

About#10, maybe just a little correction: the game actually had non-motion controls as an option... Thank goodness. To add to your reasoning for #1, this game was made to coincide with the release of Order of Ecclesia for DS. It also featured the ability to unlock Shanoa from the get-go (instead of unlocking her normally) as well as giving you powerful items in the DS game.
The character design is what REALLY bugs me... I mean, sure, have a talented artist design characters, but good grief, MAKE IT OPTIONAL! They could have made it a 2nd player costume. I mentioned Shanoa, and guess what: THEY CUT HER HAIR! I know that the Wii wasn't a graphic powerhouse, but why not just tying her hair in a knob?
Also, you... forgot to mention the online mode... yeah, the Wii wasn't that great for that either :P

Shrek 1 and 2 are actually some of my favorite movies of all time, granted they are nowhere near my love for spider-man homecoming, Wall-e, and monty python and the holy grail but shrek 2 was i film i loved from my childhood, and still do. I even watched all the shrek films for 4 days, 1 per film, with my youngest brother, much like how my dad showed me his old tapes of the original star-wars trilogy, which were even the pre special edition ones. anyway, i still love the shrek films (minus the 3rd one) To this day, even if it has a cringy fandom. Funny thing is, the "Smash isn't a fighting game" meme is technically correct, but only in the sense if "Smash Bros is not the same genre as Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat". Obviously that's not what people mean when they're saying that, but nobody really wants to hash out the details either way.
I think it's like calling the Metal Gear games "Shooters". Shooting occurs and is an important mechanic in all of them, but there's more around it and if you feel like playing anything you would conventionally describe as "A Shooter", you wouldn't be reaching for anything called "Metal Gear" most likely.

Especially Sonic The Fighters. It was aimed at younger players so it was intentionally made to play like a simplified Fighting Vipers. There are plenty of terrible fighting games that belong on this list (Rise Of The Robots on Sega Genesis for example, which is virtually unplayable) but Sonic isn't one of them.

Punch Time Explosion was sold for like, a dollar on PSN, and it was STILL overpriced. It's not just that it was a blando commando Smash Bros rip-off, at a time when there was no shortage of Smash Bros. clones. They DIDN'T EVEN USE THE REAL VOICES FROM THE SHOWS! Contrast that with the Power Stone inspired Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, which is hugely faithful to the cartoon and uses most of the proper voice cast.

It feels wonky and hard to control. Say what you will about Sonic Battle, but at least that game had tight and responsive controls. Sonic the Fighters is an average game with little to no control. Thus giving it a 4/10 as a game. Fun as hell, and enjoyment wise it gets a 7/10, but as far as good games go, it isn't one in my opinion
I genuinely want a sequel to Castlevania Judgement. It could be great with the right team and the right control scheme.
Masters of Teräs Käsi also deserves another shot, but I know for a fact it would still be horrible through no fault of its own, but EA
