Meh, I didn't have a problem with this game as a kid. I only focused on the fact that I was using my favorite characters to kick robot ass.

1. In the beginning cut-scene Jimmy sprayed Sponge bob with some sort of...thing (smash master didn't show that part)

Hey, at least this game isn't Nickelodeon Party Blast. Oh the amount of fun I had with that game. Zero fun. None. It was bad.
I loved a ton of Nicktoons. There were so many great ones but my favorites are probably Rugrats and Ren and Stimpy.

Not gonna lie. I actually loved this game
Of the four, probably the Nicktoon I'm most fond of as a whole is Danny Phantom. The second would have to be SpongeBob, but particularly the first three seasons. Though I've had my enjoyment with those four shows, I think I'm fond of My Life as a Teenage Robot most of all. There's something about a youthful, female-esque robot serving as a main character of a show that feels so unique to me in of itself.
It's like House of Mouse teams up with Marvel Ultimate Alliance or.....something
The 'magic can only affect our world' thing is complete tartar sauce. In the Jimmy-Timmy Pour Hour trilogy, one of which PREDATES THIS GAME, it's CLEARLY SHOWN that magic can affect Jimmy's world JUST FINE.
I got that game for the same reasons you mentioned. I remember that there were images of the characters exploring in Jimmy’s neighborhood on Gamespot, but that location was inaccessible.
Old Spongebob was great, rip dreams.

Spongebob's always been my favorite nicktoon, I still love him today. Season 1-3 + the movie were the best ones, season 4-5 were good, but season 6-9 are awfully mediocre... I hope Stephen Hillenburg will save the show when he returns for the 10th season.
I've started collecting every Spongebob game ever made as well. Yeah, I know most of them are bad, but the majority of them are only like 2-3 hours long AND costs about 5$. Then again, there's some fantastic games mixed in, like "Battle of Bikini Bottom" and "The Movie Game".
A movie based on this game would be awesome.

I thought I was the only person on the planet who mostly got licensed games as a kid. I'm really trying to make up for that now by going after a lot of the games that I missed on the last gen consoles that I own.
I think my brother played this game once. I believe I just watched. I used to love watching SpongeBob and would watch it every chance I got. Until I realized the newer episodes suck and are basically the same thing. Which was sadly about a year ago. Nowadays, I can't decide on a favorite Nick show.

Man I feel your pain of having TV/movie games as one of my first experiences, and I bought this game last year for dirt cheap. Oh boy was it was an adventure, horrific character models. Was it just me who thought Walker was a pretty hard first boss? Felt demotivated to complete it when even the first world was long. Thanks for showing me what I missed out on, nothing much really apart from that hilarious Patrick cutscene. Always thought the music could be for an worldwide themed diner.
Glad the PS2 isn't the only version with excessively long saving times, I love how an advert came up then during the save point. This one slipper past my subfeed but was a nice surprise when I saw it. :D

The beginning of the Goddardception segment instantly made me think of JonTron.
The reason we love games from our childhood to death even if they're piss-poor is because we played them when we were young, when we were naive and at the time, they were the most revolutionary games we played. And because of our naïveté, we enjoyed all the fun aspects of the games without really considering the negatives. I have a younger cousin who's childhood game was Sonic '06, and even though he's aware of the game's flaws he still holds it close to is heart because to him it introduced video games as a concept.
Asphalt Apocalypse Honestly despite the shallow combat and horrendous animation, I find this game to be all right, though best enjoyed in small increments because of how it pads.
This was the Nickelodeon version of Kingdom Hearts

My favorite Nicktoons cartoon as a kid was probably Danny Phantom, Avatar The Last Air Bender, Fairly Odd Parents, or Spongebob. I watched those 4 a lot. I also liked Jimmy Newtron a lot so I guess they knew where they were going with this game when they picked out the characters. It's a shame 90% of those shows don't come on Nick anymore. The only one that still comes on is Spongebob but that's because it is insanely successful and whoever made it keeps on making new episodes.
Nicktoon Unite for the ps2 was the first video game I've ever played. I just want to make that clear before I finish watching this video.

I loved all the shows in Nicktoons Unite as a kid, I can even names them in the order how I like them. Number 1: SpongeBob Squarepants, Number 2: Danny Phantom, Number 3: The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, and Number 4: The Fairy OddParents.

+Ricardo Martinez From the time, those classic Nictoons were normally on air and there were new DS and GBA games being made for them. But they were almost on their last legs. 2011 (The cancellation of Nicktropolis) was when they were officially pulled off the air.

Nice review. I agree with pretty much everything you said. I played this game as a kid. Never finished it. Got to the Goddard level and finally realized it wasn't worth the time. If I hadn't played BfBB prior to playing Nicktoons Unite, maybe I would've liked it more. BfBB was made by a team that cared about the source material, and it shows. Nicktoons Unite was made by a team for whom, I'm assuming, making it was just a job.
My brother wanted this game when we were kids. It never worked though when he would get a copy of it. I guess it's a good thing.

*(While typing this I realized that I made it really long by accident, so just a heads-up if you want to read it)*
I had Unite when I was younger and I thought it was great (Heck I just recently bought it for nostalgia) and I have played Battle for Volcano Island and Attack of the Toybots, both of which were Ok. I haven't played Globs of Doom yet, though. I've heard that one is the worst, but I still want to play it 1) so I can finish the series, and 2) I plan on reviewing all 4 games sometime.
Also I've noticed that while this is a Nicktoons game, the focus is on Spongebob. He's the first character you see, and over time he becomes the main focus as he is the first seen character in both Volcano Island and Attack of the Toybots, and he has the most characters from his world (from Unite to Toybots you see Spongebob, Plankton, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Sandy, and Squidward), not to mention he's almost always in the front on all the covers (excluding the American Volcano Island box art). And in the UK, the first 2 games are called "Spongebob Squarepants and Friends Unite!" and "Spongebob and Friends Battle for Volcano Island" respectiviely. And while I couldn't find the Toybots UK cover, I'm just gonna assume it's called "Spongebob and Friends: Attack of the Toybots". You can also see this clearly in the fourth game as in all regions it's called "Spongebob Squarepants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom" (which might I add is a stupid and needlessly long title). It just goes to show that Spongebob is Nicktoons cash cow, and I feel that THQ had to do this because while Fairly Oddparents, Danny Phantom and Jimmy Neutron were popular, any kid would want a game with Spongebob, which is kind of sad to be honest.
To be honest I'd liek to see an HD remake/reimagining of these games by a good 3rd-party developer (Gearbox or Insomniac) or a 5th game to see what they could do with the new software. Sadly, this'll never happen as after THQ went bankrupt (R.I.P.) and their properties were sold, Activision got the rights for Spongebob games. Hopefully this will be like Marvel vs. Capcom where they had Spider-Man in it and Activision owns the video-game rights to him and siince it's not just HIS game it doesn't count. I feel like something like that could happen. Hopefully.

+Barry Mitchell Everyone except Spongebob is chewing on gum that Jimmy invented that allows them to breathe. They explain it in the very first cutscene when you arrive in Bikini Bottom.

+SmashMasterShow Jimmy's "Neutronic Air Gum" was used in an actual episode that I forgot the name of, and in that same episode there was a small cameo of Spongebob's house. Also in the ending of this game when Timmy leaves for his home world, Cindy specifically says to him that she will miss him, referencing how they met in Jimmy Timmy Power Hour. I loved the little references they made here.

Hey guys. I'm going to admit something. My first games were liscensed games. For PC. I didn't become a more diverse gamer in 2004 where my brother and I got Pokemon Leaf Green.

But ill admit, I wish I'd seen Avatar at the time, for some reason, I just seemed to dislike it for it's animation as a kid, but I'll see it one day, so I'm pumped.

As much as I like this game and the other nicktoons unite games, I think everyone can agree that Danny Phantom does NOT translate well to 3D
I remember my first console game being Shrek 2 on the GameCube. Ahh, I remember the days when I was so stupid I never even knew how to save in the games I played. All I did was play the first few levels over and over again, and I still somehow had fun?I also did this with pokemon.... God I was a stupid kid.

I was like you and had my first game be licensed. My second was pokemon sapphire but my first was naruto uzumaki chronicles 2. An extremely underrated beat-em-up.
