tokyo dawn is a godsend for broke, yet ambitious people just getting into mixing...much like yourself zane. thanks for another solid tip man you're doing the lord's work
Its FREE because the guys at TDR are awesome. They usually release a slightly scaled down version as a starter for the FULL GE version you may want to buy in the future. But unlike other free VSTs there is no nag or any BS to deal with. Its just a fully functional HQ Pro VST. I wish all plugin companies would take note to this business model. This version is a slick revamp of the Original Molot from Vladg.
Excellent video Zane, as always. Not sure if I've got this already but will check. Liked the fact you suggest the best uses for this compressor 👏🏾. Keep these videos coming dude 👍🏾
I loved what this VST did to the vocals, but with the bass I thought the slight nasal quality of the original was lost, would this then be a case of mixing dry with wet signal? Wannt the compression but want to retain the original sound characteristics, how to achieve this?
I’m not quite sure how it works. I know Bootsie and Variety of Sound collaborated with TDR but I’m not sure if TDR is the recent incarnation of either. I think TDR might be the link between where Bootsie and Variety of Sound left off to where we are now but I think they are separate entities, if that makes sense. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
Bootsie did work with TDR when the SlickEQ was made but he let audio development afterwards to dedicated himself to photography. Now, there's also the fact that Vladislav Goncharov (AKA Vlad G), the creator of the original Molot and Limiter No 6 works for TDR since years ago, hence why we got TDR versions of Limiter No 6 (not free) and Molot (Molotok and Molot GE).
Their limiter 6 is amazing. But, you didn't cover the coloration that this compressor imparts: it actually adds some saturation so it's not a completely transparent compressor. For that, try their kotelnikov, which is another amazing compressor. And of course, TDR Nova.... Tokyo dawn are, as sometime else noted, the struggling producer's best friend.
TDR are not only the struggling producers friend I've seen plenty of pros using even their free stuff it's just straight up industry grade VSTs for free

This compressor does colour the sound. You could maybe try using a eq along with it but your still going to be messing with the sound.
Make a fx send track
Usually TDR effects have a wet/dry knob
I always use this for my pararel compression on drum and mastering
Right on! It's such a versatile and great sounding plugin. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Keep creating! 👊👍
Is TDR the most recent incarnation of Bootsie and Variety of Sound, or are they different people?

There are no presets but it’s pretty easy to dial in so you don’t really need them.
