Not sure who deserves the bigger round of applause. Adam for his response to the caricature drawing both during the video and during the behind the scenes moment at the end, or the person who drew it. Great episode!

My poor seven year old nephew screaming oh dear Lord Jesus through the whole ride probably the funniest thing I ever experienced
I screamed “1x2” on a ride called the Enterprise - a Ferris wheel type torture unit that the carriages go upside down - for the entire ride (an eternity in hell). Apparently everyone was screaming the answer back at me but I couldn’t get it. A friend asked as soon as we got off and I managed the answer and realised I’d been screaming outside my head ooops. I was 27…😵💫

Short idea: Adam shows up late to a meeting. Everyone else is wearing a t-shirt with the caricature on it. Adam: "This wouldn't happen if Matt were here." Talia: "He got the shirts for us."
This video is the perfect representation of the fair. Start off with energy and excitement then realty hits along with nausea.
Also start with a wallet full of money and by the end of the day you're lucky if you have 20 bucks left lol

I went on three rides with my niece last time the fair was in town and even though they were VERY mild rides I was 100% sure I was gonna die the whole time. I kept looking at the cotter pins holding the Ferris Wheel together thinking "I wouldn't trust those to hold together my bookshelf". Y'all they literally clinked. 😱
Rode a few "mild" rides with my kids last year and it felt like I blew a disc in my spine by the time it was over lol

That's cause the carnis' putting the rides together are mostly alcoholics......you can usually smell the alcohol on their breath when he takes your ticket while getting on the ride lol

While visiting friends we discovered the most memorable ride in Southaven, Mississippi: Dislodger of the Unknown Kidney Stone. My poor 14 year old kiddo... 😭
There is a ride that is famous for that, and people will specifically ride it to get rid of kidney stones. Walt Disney World's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride. There were studies done on it and everything. Apparently riding in the back produces the best results.

Every time I watch one of these videos it further solidifies that the Midwest like Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois is just southern states in the north because we do all this too. It’s the “it’s supposed to sound like it’s breaking.” For me haha
Where I’m from in Illinois was settled from the south. So the food we grew up on and some of the way we talked was Southern.
Visiting a friend in Indiana years ago, I did a day trip to Indianapolis while she was at school (going to a community college at the time). They had the "state museum" there where through their history, they confirmed Indiana is basically the most Southern "Northern" state in the union. Even going as far as confirming the state had a lot of sympathizers for the Confederacy. Aside from that, just visiting her town and some of her relatives all but proved that.
Nah. When I watch Charlie Berens, it makes me realize that we have way more in common with Northeastern people than Midwestern people. Midwesterners have such a level of awkward quirkiness that would not be socially acceptable in the South. Southern people care way too much about avoiding awkwardness for someone who acts like Charlie Berens to ever fit in

This is one of those times where the traditions of county fairs transcends the regions they occur in. Having experienced county fairs from the pacific northwest, alaska, kansas, florida, tennessee, ohio, and new england once you are in the fairgrounds it is like being in any walmart: they look the same and the differences are only in the local sports team shirts and fast foods they stock.
My country fair has live bands, rodeos, and boating. I love it so much.
I just about see/hear/smell all of this every year at Iowa State Fair
And it's totally worth it
I'll see your Iowa State Fair and raise you the "Texas" State Fair (currently going on right now). Basically your local year-around amusement park/petting zoo/Detroit Auto Show with some really good food that's expensive AF when you factor in the tickets to dollar ratio.

Growing up in Birmingham, my parents would never let us get on those rides at the shopping centers or County Fairs. We would go into PizItz shopping for about 45 minutes. We come back out in the parking lot already had ALL the rides set up.
We didn't get to go on rides except Busch Gardens; and Disney World the first year it opened. Because they never trusted the Carneys. (thanks Mom and Dad)

Hit the carnival games as soon as the gates are open. That's when the odds are in your favor. They want people to win the huge stuffed animals and carry them around all day to encourage others to spend (all) their money to only get a Beanie Baby sized toy.
Yeah. Looked forward to the scale model show winners, the dime toss to win plates,bowls, cups, etc., the down on their luck rock band also rans, the hootchi-kootchi shows, the motor cycle riders in a ball cage, and the prize winning animals. Ah the memories. Haven't been to a fair in decades. Afraid to go to one now. Might be soul crushing to see the changes.
Speaking for Dallas, it's all pretty much still exactly as you just described but throw in a car show.

My favorite was always the car show and the Fletchers Corn Dogs.

I feel the same about the people who use scissors and black paper to cut out your profile. My cousin and I had it done at Disneyland decades ago and we couldn't tell whose portrait was whose. They looked nearly identical.

LOL😆💕👍😆I was at my county fair in rural Florida back in High School. We got on the death trap called the Zipper. The door was held shut by a rusty cotter pin. By the end of the ride I was praying and crying. When I got off, the pin was almost completely out! I was the one closest to the door. Most of hose rides are so old that Moses rode them.😰

you cant forget the 4-h exhibit, art exhibit, food exhibit and all the other contests and exhibits they do.
If I had to get a new pair of shoes every time I stepped in horse 💩, I'd constantly be getting new shoes.
Was at the 4-H fair years ago. Someone had a full sized horse and a mini in the same stall. Don't know how many people I overheard that thought it was a mare and foal. If I remember correctly, the horse was a gelding. 🤷
Showed horses at more county 'n state fairs over the many decades then I care to admit to ; wish I'd kept a log of the hilarious non-horse persons questions & comments to write a book ! Over the years we had out favorite food vendors at each location - elephant ears , cinnamon rolls , rib-eye sandwiches ( one for me & one for my black Lab ) , homemade pie / ice cream , etc. Never a salad in sight !!! 🤣🤣🤣
I remember there was a big deal made at our county fair about a 6ft tall man-eating chicken. We paid .50 and saw a 6ft tall man, eating chicken. Couldn’t even be mad. Hilarious.

Went to the fair here in my county... prices were ridiculous. $5 for one ball throw. $8 for funnel cakes. $6 for a small slice of pizza. Bottle water is $4.

The best ride when I was a kid was. "The Scissor" you would climb in and it would pivot you up in the air and turn you upside down and all your loose change and stuff would come out of your pockets!!! And they had a steering wheel that you could use to stay"upright" but that made it worse!!!
Years latter when I was in Flight School there was a maneuver called
" Induced Stall Spinning"..
and it felt the same way...
I would always start making
"Whuuuuuweee" sounds and gigling like a two year old when I did it and my Instructors thought I was .... well you know...nuts.( a lot of them liked it too..). Most people are terrified at doing spins in airplanes... but I love it. Makes me feel like a kid again. 👶
