    That little bag with silicate in the expansion tank is the reason for so many troubles. With time the bag splits and the silicate granules start circulating in the cooling system ,blocking the tiny holes in the heater matrix resulting in no heating in the car. The result is over a £1000 in a garage if you’ve got no mechanical skills. So if you still have that bag just get rid of it and you the right coolant that will give you the needed protection.
    Lot of people say bad things about that engine, but the truth is that the service intervals program from lease companies is the reason for all the problems and premature failure of the engines. Regular oil changes and filters will keep your engine happy and your pocket full... simple

      Luckily, heater matrix replacement only requires minimal dismantling. Maximum 2 hours labour to do the job. Add on £60 for a new matrix and it's not a bad job.

    With the charge cooler being incorporated into the inlet manifold it leads to carbon build up and blockage of inlet as well as having general DPF issues like all common diesel engines but the additional heat exchanger element inside the manifold leads to more problems in the long run I have a video on my page going through faults on 1 of these engines having low boost problems and this was the cause only fault in ECU was p0299 low boost and checked everything only to find blocked inlet and blocked exhaust didn't even show a DPF fault was very frustrating

    Wow, a lot of thinking is going into these engines. However as beautiful as they are, I wonder how they will do after warranty expires in places like here in Africa.

      @danielfl.9347 5 лет назад +1

      Luis Maruwasa neither of these engines should have any problems. Especially 2.0 TDI is an old engine, so no big problems there.

      Now that they stopped using plastic piston rings and cam chains made from string the engines should be quite solid. But it's the emissions controls system which worry me now.

    We can also dodge the emissions test by leaving a brown envelope of 20 Euro notes on the passenger seat.

    My 1.6 tdi dgte cooling system is cursed, i swear it is, I'm on the cars 3rd heater matrix, 3rd expansion bottle and 2nd main water pump, the last water pumps metal sliding sleeve had broken up, its unbelievable. Apart from that its been a good car lol

    • @denisohbrien
      @denisohbrien 25 дней назад

      If you still have the car, fit the old style water pump without sleeve, heatertank from a petrol (doesn't have the silicate bag) and fill with g30 antifreeze. Permanent fix.

    i thought they are doing away with valves and cams and belts and chains . and now being elctronic makes a lighter and shorter engine with less parts .

    Plastic elements in pumps - that wont last too long. Typical German low quality.
    BVecause u dont believe germans make good cars anymore?
    They make expensive cars that are expensive to repair and brake easily.
    I will give u an example. If these cars are that good and that expensive why do they break so often and so easily?
    10 Years of owning Toyota and it never let me go. Every time, every turn of key and i ride them pedal to metal.
