One thing my mom taught me about horses is they sense your moods and intentions just as surely as a dog does. If you're calm and firm, they will sense that. If you're frustrated or afraid or indifferent, they will sense that too. Does that mean if your calm and firm, the horses will always respond favorably, I wish. Nope, all horses are individuals, and even good ones have bad days. Means you will have more success remaining calm and firm than if you dont. Thats all. Horses looking fabulous as always! Am curious though to the history when they change the guards, why do they change the gatesman in the tunnel? See, you got me started with your chitsman history. I love that stuff!
Horses are stoic when it comes to showing pain. Horses will get sharp points on the teeth which is why a vet or and equine dentist will “float” the horses teeth to remove any sharp points or hooks. The trooper’s horse probably got his lip and/or tongue caught between the bit and a high point on a tooth which caused the small amount of blood. After he is off duty, they will probably have a more precise view of the horses mouth.
Yep that’s def most likely. And those cuts are usually just minor, like when we bite our tongues. They bleed a bit but aren’t too big a deal, and they’ll take care of the teeth in the stable.

love your commentary AND your marvelous sense of humour including your comments re the "peasantry" and your "je parle très bien français" as you walked amongst "étudiants français à Londres" but then there was the "horse dentist" - so i visualized the horse being led into the area occupied by the dentist for the horses as the horse is positioned in a "horse dentist chair" - and the horse dentist says "yes, Mr Bleeding-Gums, lean back and relax and I will climb the steps so i can better look into what is happening in your mouth"
Back in the 80s, we went on vacation to Fort Robinson in western Nebraska. It was an active military fort up to the end of WWII. It is also the place where Crazy Horse was assassinated by the military. Anyway, we toured through the Horse Infirmary and saw the medical instruments used to treat the horses. Holy Smokes, they were unbelievable!! The memory came back when you talked the dentist chair! 😂

@barbaragouin7232 Trooper E did say in an earlier video that he had no interest in being a boxman, as the preparation involved for the post took up too much of his free time, and he preferred to enjoy his evenings rather than spend them polishing his kit etc for hours on end. He's happy as a stableman for now, but he's been a chitsman and/or gatesman in the past - hence all the videos of him being kind to children/babies/animals etc.

@@starvingartist2824 Kensington is the Palace, you know the one that speaks on behalf of Prince William and Princess Catherine🙂 His name is close to that one, but it's definitely Kingston.
The horse upper teeth edge normally extend over the side edge of the lower jaw. Horse teeth continue to grow from the gums during life. Older horses commonly need their teeth “floated” meaning they take a file and smooth out the sharp edge on either side of the jaw. A common sign of the horse needing his teeth floated is all that slobber Yosemite has had in the past and they tend to loose grain from the side of the mouth when eating. It takes time to get him aligned properly and it’s possible they have had to give him repeated treatments. This would completely explain why he is less slobbery and also why he is temporarily prone to gum bleeding from how the bit is suddenly more comfortable and tongue and jaw healing from his treatment. The simple truth is that these horse are exceptionally well treated!!!❤❤❤ BRAVO HORSE GUARDS!!!!!❤❤❤
you are completely right about the teeth and I agree about the possibility of a recent dental treatment, the excess foaming we've seen as he does like to play with his bit is less - these military horses are indeed well respected and treated!
You are the only one I watch now. At first I was checking all the streams but you are definitely the best, you have taught me a lot. Your humour makes me laugh, keep it up John.❤

Horses are highly sensitive to their surroundings. I have always had a feeling about this box, even though I have never visited England and the Horse Guards. I am a Canadian and highly appreciate what ALL the Guards do to protect the Palaces. Thank you, sir, for keeping all of us computer and phone users informed. I find these posts highly informative and learning about the Guards. Again, my sincere thanks from a Canadian and a Royalist.
Love your commentary John. Your knowledge of horse guards and London in general is exceptional and you are extremely polite to everyone. You would make an excellent tour guide. Well done!! watching 👀 from “down under”
Lol our favourite trooper is adding to his horse whisperer cred 🤭Just goes to show tho, horses are very influenced by their “herd”, and the troopers are a part of that, so a calm person that he knows well, and a calm rider, means he settled quickly. Wasn’t that horse Norseman John? Pretty sure he was. Chances are the LifeGuards grey is a bit older than the Blues……greys lighten in colour as they age….and yes well done to the Blues trumpeter, that was excellently done. 😅looks like the LifeGuards horse was very keen to get started today. First LifeGuards mount in the right box was Venus I think, and Tyranny in the other. Yeah I noticed that “person”…..a virtue signaller, uggghhh. One of those who spends all her time telling others how to behave because “she” knows everything. I’ve mostly found all the people in your comments as well as you, yourself John, to be very respectful of the troopers. There are one or two that we know well, and know the names of, and we are all genuinely fond of them.
I’m loving your videos I’ve got a lot to catch up on 😮but will get it done the trumpeter was amazing his regiment should be proud of him keep posting John your doing an amazing job 💜

41:50 As the flag unfurls, you get a glimpse of the regimental emblem, and the E II R cypher. This is indeed the Regimental Standard presented by the late Queen in 2014. Last year the King presented a new Royal Standard which has the royal coat of arms and the C III R cypher. I think 'the Colours' is a generic term for whichever flag is being carried at any particular time.
The one at the very beginning who looked at Yosemite was a Lance Corporal, but whether he was a farrier now I can't say - but my gut feeling is that he wasn't one
Hi again John. Maybe the cobbles need attention in the left box. I live in a cobbled street and it wouldn't feel good underfoot, also the horse has a different view, than the other 🤷♀️
Also I read that horses don't like strong smells maybe there is a shop where the aroma gets to that box or a member of the public has sprayed too much, like my mother-in-law, 😊
@@cassandra5875 Good point. But i haven't seen any shops around, except that small outdoor souvenir booth/stall, up the street from that box (not the one in the courtyard, but to the left of the box, on the street) They sell postcards, t-shirts, umbrellas, bauble hats and the like, so nothing that would cause a powerful scent. There's something else related to that box, and i think it might have to do with your first theory. The difference in the cobblestone level between the two boxes is very clear.

Those bugles usually sound horrid that was actually really good ❤❤
It's a Long Trumpet. HCAV don't use bugles. 👍
@@LondonCityWalks I didn't know that, about the HG using a 🎺 trumpet and not a bugle . Foot regiments use the bugle 📯 only? Can anyone confirm that for me?
You crack me up 😂 you brighten my day! It decided to snow on us here. Kinda dreary!
The blues horse with the perfect star is Norseman. 😊.
Great name.😊
Love listening to you. And you show the utmost respect for the guards the horses and the security team. Can't wait for your next episode. Love you friend.😊😊😊😊😊😊❤
As soon as he produced that lovely first clear note, I knew it would be good. Well done that man! No valves, only mouth and breath control……AND on a horse which could move so you get your teeth bashed😂❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely agree with you. The trumpeter was perfect. Amazing.
The amount of detail in this video is amazing! From the horse's mysterious bleeding gums to the perfect trumpet solo - this is the kind of content that makes you feel like you're right there. Who else is amazed by the royal standards trivia? 🇬🇧🎺
ooh that's a beautiful star that horse is displaying 🎉
love your commentary AND your marvelous sense of humour including your comments re the "peasantry" and your "je parle très bien français" as you walked amongst "étudiants français à Londres" but then there was the "horse dentist" - so i visualized the horse being led into the area occupied by the dentist for the horses as the horse is positioned in a "horse dentist chair" - and the horse dentist says "yes, Mr Bleeding-Gums, lean back and relax and I will climb the steps so i can better look into what is happening in your mouth"
I actually split my sides with your humour today Brilliant mix of information and hilarity John Keep it going:))
These horses are beautiful! They must include vitamins to insure a beautiful coat!
I'm positive I saw them polishing the horses coats on the princess Elizabeth day!!!
I'm sure the horses have the best of everything. Not sure about the troupers, though.
Horses first, troopers second….and yes the horses are groomed thoroughly every day and part of that grooming is polishing the coat.
Hi John it’s march 13th a beautiful day trumpeter is great hope horse is ok ❤❤❤
Almost looked like the horse was trying to bob his head to the tune of the trumpet 😂
You are the soul of discretion. I admire you for not filming troopers and I think they feel the same or you would not have been invited behind the scenes at the Princess Elizabeth competition.
Afternoon John! Ive said before myself about it being haunted lol,its super old and alot has happened there I dunno about the box,but I feel like the grounds and building could be! I hope the horse is ok I would have freaked out if I saw that. As usual they all looked so well put together and impressive. Have a good day everyone!
I've watched so many of these, but I have to say I enjoy yours the most. Mostly because of your commentary. When I try to watch the the others. 😊 I catch myself dozing off. You make the experience interesting and educational. I'm in the US but have family ties on Prince William side. Distant cousins though a great great grandmother with Princess Diana. Anything I learn means something to me.
Trooper Ellis is very good with the horses but, I have never seen him as a boxman
He's never (yet) been a Boxman. There are many troopers who are always assigned as Chitsman or Gatesman.
What is a box an?
Boxman is mounted trooper out front....in the 'box'
@barbaragouin7232 Trooper E did say in an earlier video that he had no interest in being a boxman, as the preparation involved for the post took up too much of his free time, and he preferred to enjoy his evenings rather than spend them polishing his kit etc for hours on end. He's happy as a stableman for now, but he's been a chitsman and/or gatesman in the past - hence all the videos of him being kind to children/babies/animals etc.
@@nancydubois-gr9jx A boxman is one of the guards on horseback, in the 2 boxes at the front of Horseguards entrance from the street.
Simply superb gorgeous mount . Hope the horses mouth is fine they take pain remarably well . This is such a fantastic day for so much activity . Nice one John TY for your great documentary today It has been a pleasure to watch A J
Come on John, it's a horse ghost that walks around teasing the real horse and makes the real horse want to walk around too lol.
Love your videos a lot. You are so nice and informative. I have learned a lot about the Horse Guards from you. Wish we had this sort of thing in the US.
Take care and blessings.
poor horse, hope he gets all fixed up
Without doubt as soon as he went back into the stables he was sorted out
Thanks
HUGE thanks to you for being so supportive Charlie. As always. ❤
Thanks!
Much appreciated, thank you! ❤️🙏🏻
Well done to the trumpeter for such a fine trumpet solo. The sound bounced off the walls. Welcome back beautiful Pagan and good on being chosen to help with bringing in the Regimental Standard .... just maybe I'll see her on box duty before they leave. Regards to the horsebox being haunted. Since I've been hooked on watching anything Horse Guards, there have been loss of horses and a trooper (R.I.P.) Perhaps it might help if a blessing was held at the boxes and the yard. Thanks John. kiwi 😀
Hi John, you do a absolutely brilliant job with your vidoes, you make me laugh so much especially when you do a French accent, you are my number 1 channel with Buska being my number 2 but don't tell Buska he's number 2, 😂😂😂
The giant, cloppy horse at the back, has that very elegant Mustache, that hangs down either side, like a manta ray.
@@starvingartist2824 You're not wrong , he's a lovely old boy 😘
That's my gorgeous Kenny...by far my favourite Blues an Royals horse❤❤
@@starvingartist2824 Yepp, it's Kingston, i call him Mr. Kingston Moustache🥰😅😅

@@Roox8115 Definitely Kensington .
Just found your channel a few weeks ago and LOVE IT!! Thank you so much for bringing this content! I live in the Chicago area and really never thought of visiting London until I saw your videos. Now I’m saving my pennies so that we can. What a joy your videos have become to me - I look forward to them. Can’t wait to pet one of the horses when we visit.
Hermoso ver todos estos guardias💂♂️y caballos 🐴. Me encantan💂💂💂💂💂💂💂💂💂🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🥰🥰🥰🥰
Good evening John NC USA late start watching your video it’s great Love the trumpeter and the guards and horses as always You’re so funny at times Love it Thank you for sharing this Have a great evening 😊
i agree John, brilliant trumpeter. i've only been watching your videos a short time and some of the other ones on this place. yours is, by far, the best!! i like that you talk and inform us of what's going on and that you give the wonderful horses a name. it is obvious you are highly respectful and discreet. i think you should ban anyone with negative comments. in fact, you are even not too mean about the mean, disrespectful people you see the whole time!! well, not as mean as i would be. lol
keep up your awesome work. you have a lovely voice and wonderful sense of humor, which adds to the quality of your videos, as well!!
As a Londoner, do you think the crowds have increased a lot over the last few years? It always seems packed there!
Absolutely. Population is well over 10 million and rising exponentially.
I think it's as a result of these videos. I'm in London ow and will be at Horse Guards on Friday.
@@margarethuybers2618 Hope you enjoy your visit. Please say hello to the tall gent ...called John.
@@margarethuybers2618 I tend to agree with the premise of increasing population, rather than videos showing horse guards!
Is it my imagination that the horses act out more often in this box verses the other one?
I have never heard you being indiscreet - you do a great job
I can’t tell which trooper is which because the headgear goes so far down and then the chin covers so I have never been curious about their names.
No, most of them are completely anonymous and prefer it that way; John absolutely respects that, and so do we.
some of the troopers' names who wish to remain unknown are blocked keywords as mentioned in the video
Only in England!…..what a picture!🌻😎
I’m not very technical & this must be a stupid question but I’ve just watched part one but how do I get part 2!.?
@@lindawallace3065 If there is a part 2 it gets uploaded when RUclips finish processing it. Just keep looking for it.

That gorgeous burgundy cloak on that white horse is marvelous.
I was just going to say that was the best trumpeter we've heard. Well done
John, yes you are correct, that trumpet salute was note perfect. Fairly unusual. Well worth hearing, many thanks to you.
I’m loving your videos I’ve got a lot to catch up on 😮but will get it done the trumpeter was amazing his regiment should be proud of him keep posting John your doing an amazing job 💜
Hello John from southern USA. Enjoy your vids and commentaries. Im trying to keep a list of the horses names.
Wow! Greatest trumpet solo ever! I wish I could just take a train to London to see horse guards. Since that is logistically impossible, thanks for posting, John.
oh dear hope he's OK poor horsey he might need a trip to the horsey dentists
Thank you for catching that John that was so beautiful ~ blues leaving xxxxx
hi for one appreciate your videos. I think you do a fine job. You say what needs to be said and I think you speak the truth. Sometimes people can't deal with that. We live in the world now where people have gotta get there two minutes of fame or even ruffle feathers if it's just to get attention, I appreciate your coverage your time your effort and knowledge that you put into each and every video thank you my friend stay well and look forward to the next video
John you do a really good job and it's delightful to watch your videos
john really good video with every thing that's happened this morning the tumpter was really good this morning
Love your voice n chuckle.
Espero que esse lindo cavalo fique bem e que não seja nada grave ...
É muito gratificante vê Ellis ❤😊
Big cloppy horse is Kensington. He has a lovely mustache 😊. I spy Rarden when the lifeguards came in. 😊
Thank you, I could not remember the horses name with the MantaRay mustache.
My days John!! what flew up that person's nose to accuse you and your followers about the Troopers names🤔 absolutely rubbish there's only one Trooper we know and that's because he did a interview with you and his Sister last year. I say to that person who was moaning get over yourself. Anyway John excellent Video the trumpeter was pitch perfect like you thats the best ive heard so far. His horse sublime🥰🥰 looking forward to part 2 John stay safe.❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧
You are so funny with your conversations makes me smile❤
Trumpeter was amazing well done.good footage john looked amazing
I live in a cobbled street and it wouldn't feel good underfoot, also the horse has a different view, than the other 🤷♀️
Very interesting point! Never hear anyone mention this before!💯💯💯
Also I read that horses don't like strong smells maybe there is a shop where the aroma gets to that box or a member of the public has sprayed too much, like my mother-in-law, 😊
@@Roox8115 off to have another look at the cobbles now😂
John, it's a female trooper on Tyranny. That's what I heard when the trooper warned the father. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
2 and a half hour walk.....😂😂😂😂
I believe the Blues Trumpeter was the former Tash Man 😊 They may have been running a little late, normally part of the guard is already on the parade ground when the Trumpeter comes to collect the Captain.
L.ove liste ing to you John.. so instructive, but more so so funny....
Hello John... Watching and enjoying the video.. Think you have accidentally changed Horses name... I refre to Bleeding gums Yosemiti😂..
Great video has always John, i swear i will get to Horseguards one day, suffer little bit from anxiety, so have build up the courage to visit new places... and planning my route.
Trumpet salute was superb and horsey behaved. You tell these pesky tourists ❤️🏴
I just noticed one of the signs is missing at the box .
I've seen a trooper a couple of times take them down for cleaning. I'm not sure if this us the case here.
A very well done for the trumpeter, best I've heard
The horses crack me up, all the antics they get up to with the tongue bleps and lower lip waggles that make em look like they are talking.
ooo just noticed theres no sign up either john. thats unusual theyre normally on the ball. love your vlogs and the respect you have for our guards is amazing. one of the vlogs mention some twins not to watch. i was wondering if you could either pm me or say who they are as ive started to watch a few others too and i ant to make sure i dont follow them, its distgusting what they are doing, though in all honesty i love yours the most as you speak and explain things where as others dont. i find your channel extremely enjoyable to watch. i dont think i would have the patience you do with some of the public, id be telling them to lower their voices and have respect all the time xxx
Love the French accent John 😂. Love your videos.
