    I fucking love strongman exercises. Im just a beginner (75 lb. sandbag carries, 60 lb farmers, 125 lb sleds, etc) but it is SO MUCH MORE EXCITING than machines.
    Thank you for all your strongman shit over the years, Brian. There is sooo much content to go through and I cant wait to become stronger.

    Visit your local microbrewery for kegs. They own the ones that the restaurants use. The one I worked at had a ton of worn out kegs. I would imagine most microbreweries are the same. The ones you get from them will most likely be clean.

    I found out that 1-1/2" steel pipe is what you need. It is just under 2" on the outer diameter, which makes for a pretty close fit for Olympic weights. You'll also need good collars, since it's just barely undersized for spring clamps.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial

    Just a heads up so anybody doesn’t do the same dumb mistake I did. I picked up 10 feet of 2 inches electrical conduit, cut to length for dumbbells and an axle, had the end welded, got them from the welder and... they’re slightly more than 2 inches in diameter... bring a small plate to the hardware store before buying lol.

    @gardenjose 8 лет назад +3

    Dude, I don't comment much but I feel compelled to say this...YOU'RE TRAPS ARE SICK! I've been using dumbbells try and mimic farmer's carry but it's just not the same: I feel like i have to get too low to pick them up and my back rounds, and like what you said, they also roll out. Been thinking about getting the Spud traveler's farmers carry straps. I know they're not as good as the actual bars, but it's all I can manage; I go to a commercial gym but it has no trap bar (not a very good gym). What are your opinions on the straps?

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад +3

      Thanks boss! I think the straps are a really good option if you can't get your hands on traditional handles. If you stick with Dumbbells, try picking them up off of a bench or blocks so the deadlift isn't as compromised, but if you are looking to do more weight, those straps may be a good solve for now. You can also just make some of your own for much cheaper with basic stuff you can buy at any hardware store. But if you are going to pay for the straps, you may just want to buy some real handles and see if you can leave them at your gym. Most places will let you do things like that. I hope that helps man!

    • @gardenjose
      @gardenjose 8 лет назад

      Yeah that's why I was a little hesitant on buying them. They're almost as much as the regular bars! lol. I did look into making my own straps if anything; will continue looking. Thanks for your input!

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад +1

      Sure thing man, but definitely as your gym if you can store them there. Or, if you have plates at your house, just program your farmer's on days when you will be out of the gym but you can still carry them in your yard or through your neighborhood

    • @gardenjose
      @gardenjose 8 лет назад

      Wassup man? I can't take the bars to the gym BUT I made my own straps except I used chain, pipe for the handle, and a heavy duty quick link. Can't wait to try these! max weight the quick link holds is 600lbs lol. I figured that should give me enough time to buy some handles lol. Thanks for your advice and tips!

    Came from Al's channel and was wondering what strongman lift do you consider best bang for buck in terms of overall body strength? I work out in my garage and out side with dumbells, barbell, bands and pullup bar. I also have a keg and 2'' barbell.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад

      Honestly man, the weighted carries and loading movements. I'd get a sandbag and load it heavy then work carries and loads to a platform or over a bar. Once that gets easy, try to get your hands on some atlas stone molds and start using them. i think hands down, Atlas stone loads/shouldering/carries will do more to build up your functional strength more than anything else

  • @scottmcdonald9685
    @scottmcdonald9685 7 лет назад

    Just found you on the tube and subbed. Very helpful content. For the "Incorporating Strongman" video that is on Thrall's channel, where would you add cleans? Also, in the same video, you pair the strongman movements of dead lift and press with the strength workouts for dead lift and press. Would that be just more dead lifting and pressing for the strongman portion?
    Thanks for your time and effort.

    When do you implement loaded carries into your workouts? It looks like a staple in what you do, and that it's done after the main strength movement, but it's hard to tell if it's used daily or every other day or so.
    Thanks, Brian.

      I do some sort of weighted carry at least 2-3 times a week. Yoke I do on a day all it's own. if I'm doing Farmers, Stones, Sandbags or kegs i will usually throw them in on my deadlift or squat days. And as far as weights are concerned, just check out this video on Alan Thrall's channel, ruclips.net/video/KhUW-gnMN_Q/видео.html Stick to it and you should be well on your way!

      Yep, definitely conditioning. But keep it intense and short. if you need ideas, i post a daily workout on my site that you can check out: www.neversate.com/wod/ Hope that helps!

      Brian Alsruhe would a hitt circuit be good?

      Absolutely just keep it to a clock so you will have to force yourself to go before you feel ready. The clock doesn't care how you feel, it's always going to be the clock and it will keep you honest...Well, it does for me at least

    Brian this is a somewhat unrelated question. What do you think of the role of strength in training for martial arts? You mentioned you used to train MA especially BJJ pretty seriously, so how important do you think strength is, and how much emphasis should be placed on strength vs. cardio/conditioning in ones training. I know this is a pretty big question too, maybe too broad for a comment, so a video would be even better! Appreciate any response you can give me, love the content.

      I actually am thinking about making a video on just that topic man! But short answer, I think that technique is king. Right behind that is conditioning because if you can outwork/outlast someone you will usually do well and finally strength is a great thing to fall back on. If you rely on it, you will get tired. if you get tired, you lose. So it is good to have if you need it but I wouldn't use it unless you have to.

      Righteous, that makes sense to me. Technique > conditioning > strength. Definitely looking forward to that video as well.
