      What are the rules of yoke walk? Are you allowed to drop the weight midway and then continue?

      Well you are definitely getting out in front a little bit man. you may be thinking about picking the bar up instead of spreading the floor. But you are pulling Sumo and I would be lying if I said I knew much about that method. If it was conventional, I would say that your are not using your lats enough, which I think still applies, but I also think a stronger brace would keep you from breaking when you are applying force with your legs. Wish i could help more man but hopefully that points you in the right direction.

      You can use most yokes as a squat rack, so it ends up being worth the cash.

    B:" I will tell you what to do, when you don't have access to a yoke."
    Me:" Just take a barbell, easy."
    B:" DO NOT load up a barbell and carry it on your back!"
    Me:" Of course not, who would do that, dat shit's dangerous!" ....
    I have incorporated farmers walks with dumbells and overhead walks (whatever they are called :X) then and again and that already challanged my core real gooood - will try those barbell-chain carries! :)

All the other stuff can come later as you continue :)

    Carries are awesome... I'm blessed to train in a gym with a 40 yard track, farmers handles and a yoke, and cursed that they constantly run aerobics type classes on the track when I train.
    If I time it just right in the weekend I can throw some carries into my squat session though. Never tried the yoke as I LOVE the farmers walks but I may try alternating a sessions of farmers and a session of yokes per week for a while.

      Brian- not sure what weight to start these at. Been using 400 total and running them about 50 ft. Just using them as conditioning work right now but would like to see some carryover to my comp lifts- squat and deads. Also, I plan on trying an amateur strongman sometime this year and not knowing much about the sport don't know what weight they use ( 231 weight class).

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 лет назад +1

      Well man, though I hesitate to suggest anything because i don't know what the other demands in your program are....But the 231 class is what i compete in and i can tell you that most of the time, our yoke weights are between 700-750. Sometimes even up closer to 800 for 50-60 feet as fast as possible and top guys will get that covered in like 6-8 seconds. Some people can move with that kind of weight like there is nothing on their back!

    Great video as always brother. Supermaximal loading on different exercises is a great thing for basic barbell lifts or any other assistance movements, everything feels light after plus it builds tendons and ligaments as well as core and teaches the bracing under ultra heavy load. Sad thing for me is that I don't have a strongman equipment nor can I find it in near area, either to buy my own or build it.
    But my go to supermaximal weight lift is above the knee rqck pull, simmilar lift to an old school strongman move: hand & thigh lift, but little mor ROM.
    Few days ago I did 800lbs x5 and was smoked after('rack pull flu' 😂)but every other lift feels really light after that. 😅

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 лет назад +1

    • @stefandrpa770

      Brian Alsruhe Thanks brother. Thats why I like strongman stuff, strength is more than just big 3, and testing it in variety of movements and with different objects should be more accurate strength scale. Plus conditioning aspect.😆

      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 лет назад +1

      Yea man, I'll add that to the list but I honestly think Strongman is the way to go with that (or any grappling sport) because it builds your hips, posterior chain and grip/crush strength, which are all MASSIVELY important in fighting.

  • @hoodnibor

    Spud inc make Yoke straps that are pretty slick. You use them with a regular barbell, but I agree just buy a yolk instead of a rack if you have to choose.

    Thanks for this video. I've been wanting a yoke for a while now, but I can't afford one, and my gym won't get one. I do, however have an axle and chains. I was wondering if that would work. Thanks for confirming! I've got squats tomorrow, so I'm trying it tomorrow!

    First, I see the benefits (and fun) of stone loading/training for powerlifting, so I put that on the list of must haves. Now I need to get a yoke as both a yoke & double second "rack." This is bad, really bad.... for my wallet, lol.
    This is one of the more exciting strength channels on youtube. Why Brian hasn't hit 100k subscribers yet is beyond me.

    New to the channel Brian, fucking awesome content brother. Really enjoy the strong man videos and are motivating me too want to start doing strong man exercises. I hope that you can keep producing more strong man videos (even though they get less views). Maybe more people can get inspired into strong man as you get more subscribers.

      Absolutely man and it is the sport I compete in so I am definitely going to continue making the Strongman content. Hopefully ore people try it out because it definitely makes all of your regular lifts go up substantially.

      Looking forward too more videos. Have you ever had a problems with mobility (ex. shoulder, hips, ankles) or having too deal with tight muscles?

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 лет назад

      Well BJJ takes care of most of my mobility stuff along with all of the unorthodox conditions stuff I do, so it is never really a problem. Also making sure that I am always pulling in the same plane with the same weight for the same reps as my presses exercises has done a ton for my shoulder health. I hope that helps!

    main thing I hate about yoke is I gotta dig the ting outta the glacier I live in and I have no option but to do it on some snow/ice thats very uneven so I always have to do a low pick to get the clearance I need.

    Hey Brian, how about a video on little known rules in Strongman or times people have been snagged in comp? For instance you have to get your second hand off a circus db before pressing but do you have to one hand the top of a stone to shoulder?

    I recently had the experience at comp not having my 800lbs yoke 4"-6" off the ground it made me drop it 5-6 times. Still finished 80' in 44 seconds but if I didn't drop it I know I would have done better, live and learn.

      It is the WORST when you are half way through a contest run and you know you have the height wrong. Nothing you can do but hope you finish...

    Brian, I didn't believe when you said the body cant handle Heavy yokes. So...today was my 1st day ever training with a yoke. What did i do? Well...ill tell you. I loaded that joker up with 506lbs and beasted for about 45 min. 4 hours later and now I feel like I've been hit by a cement truck.

      Thanks man and whatever you feel the most mobile in. But I would also tell you to have some cushion because that is a literal ton per square inch. My broken foot that is still not fixed happened because I was doing zercher yoke walks in my Squat shoes. just walking literally tore the tendons right off my foot and broke 2 bones....I still need to get it fixed
