    Farmers made my grip stronger, increased my forearm size, calves size, neck size, traps and neck size the most. It did increase size of every muscle as well. There was carry over on every single lift. It is my single favorite exercise next to the military press and log press and then the deadlift. These are the creme de la creme in my opinion.

Use a backpack for added weight or anything u can think of. Also a backpack can be used for single arm skull crushers for triceps. Follow with varieties pushups and dips. Squat lunge etc all leg exercises can still be done just be creative on making it harder and adding resistance like wearing a bookbag for jump squats switch lunges etc. a towel for back exercise. Been doing 2 mile 35lb kettlebell suitcase carries every day during pandemic. People look at me like I have two heads but it's been keeping me in shape. Heavy farmer carries will get you yoked...I have decent traps and have never shrugged a single rep. When you're talking about turning on the central nervous system at around 4:00, that's also true of heavy rack pulls above the knee. Maybe you're not getting the benefit of a full range of motion blah blah, but you're making your body comfortable with holding heavy weights. There's no way it can't be translating to other lifts.

      I have two 50lbs plates that I’ll carry back and forth in my hilly yard. Probably around a quarter mile total when I’m finished. And just like you, Mike, my traps are like shredded wheat because of them!! Plus, I just feel more “primal” and bad-ass after doing them - if that makes any sense.

    • @marcus_ohreallyus
      @marcus_ohreallyus 4 года назад +7

      @@classicmanexpressionscmx6520 it's funny seeing guys at the gym shrugging and shrugging constantly for little results when you realize you can get traps while focusing on other things. The carries work for the forearms also... If you do carries with heavy plates on a regular basis you probably have good forearms, but I'll bet it wasn't your goal. About the "primal" thing...I get that. When I'm about a half mile from the house on my way back, I'm growling and talking myself out of setting the weight down. It's uncomfortable as hell, but fun at the same time.

    I told my brother I'm gonna lose 100ibs and not do a sit up and am not gonna run. A month in I'm 25ibs down thanks to workout and nutrition. My workout consist of functional movements that I use everyday and help from squat university on RUclips, I also try to do stabilizer and mobility to fix pains and strengthen along the way. I'm on an incline treadmill at a pace that gives me a bit of challenge over my walking pace. (I believe the average goal is to get over the speed of 3.0 to start, but I have weak knees and short steps I build throughout workout though.) I do farmers walks after 10 minutes in and rotate every minute or 2 minutes different weights (10/15, 15/20,.20/25) I do that 3 times for each side put them down and keep walking another 5-10 do them again. Then on incline still I take one weight walk backwards and lean back like I'm dragging a dead body it's a nice stretch on the back and a killer lower ab, all ab workout. I do that for a minute 3 times. When the weight gets heavy and it's hard to hold it I turn the move into a suitcase lift and switch when need to but the goal is to not set down the weights before time. Also it's best to slow the speed down walking backwards if you're not used to walking backwards but have a pace you are still feeling that burn. Evidently I turn back around and so another 20-30 walking in incline at this point it's higher 10-13 and I walk on incline for a bit but throughout the time it's not set I throw it in wherever a minute here two there I do rest minute or 30 seconds between switches another 10 mins of farmers with a slightly more challenging speed. It's been working great for me I am sliming down and lifting in my day to day life is a lot easier I do this 3 times a week and love that it's low impact , but high return in terms of strength, endurance and functionality. Also I am a woman I don't know if that makes any difference in any term.

    I've recently started the farmers walk. I weigh 60kg so carrying an 8kg kettlebell 3 miles is very taxing for me. I only use one kettlebell as I've been told it works better with one as with two you are balanced. I feel I'm getting stronger but I'm no bigger in any body part...

      Try heavier weights for shorter distances. What I've found works best is ~90-100% of your deadlift 1RM for max distance.

Unable to do the kettlebell walk anymore as it’s prohibited with the catheter running from my chest to my jugular. Disheartened is an understatement. • @Патриархальный_Угнетатель

    its so interesting actually i noticed recently in my workouts.. i would always start off light warm up then heaviest weight pyramid down for working sets.. well i noticed that sometimes my second working set would feel better more controlled then first.. i was like wtf i should be tired more on second then first by all logic. so i took note and just like couple workouts ago tried to do two light sets for warm up.. then stack working weight on but instead of a full sets i would do 2 or 3 reps with working weight as so to speak 3rd warm up set but super short just couple reps in then rest and go to do first set.. i noticed that it feels waaay more productive.. i suppose these couple reps actually prime the CNS for work and then u actually workout then waste all strength pushing first set out while muscle tissue and CNS are not even ready and primed to do so.. like trying to floor a car that has not yet warmed up during winter.. it will go but nowhere near as good and won't produce as much power out

    I've always been wanting better grip strength... and I can't believe how fast its getting stronger. Been doing 2 x 32kg kettlebells for 100 yards, then each arm for 100 yards x 2, then a final set of 100 yards with both arms. After that I do my bicep curls and reverse curls, and the walks made gripping the bar at first super hard. But as I've gotten stronger, I've noticed the gained strength... Meh, I'm gonna need 2 more really expensive kettlebells soon.

    So which would be better deadlifts or farmer's walk( farmer's). I know this might spark an argument but everything except possiblity the conditioning, can be obtained with deadlifts so why not just deadlifts. I see farmer's as a assistance exercise for deadlifts but by the way they describe farmer's it's as if they believe farmer's were superior. I will be adding farmer's back in to my training session once I'm done with my program because they're really fun display strength but I was just curious of others option on the topic.

      Yes it is just as beneficial. It also activates your core and spinal erectors more being that you are standing straight against a weight pulling you to one side. So yes very much so if done correctly. I would personally do one handed in any case of imbalance. Otherwise, the normal two hand farmers walk is just the same as one
