The B.R.A.C commission is the way that the military closes bases, however some of those bases go on to other uses. The example I think of is Fort McClellan near Aniston Alabama. The old “Tank range” is now home to the loblolly pine tree forest which the National Park Service runs. The old Head quarter section is now a senior care home. And the former property has other uses as well. “That’s your new odd fact of the day” I’m glad to see this channel is back.
Whoo hoo...back at it. Thank you very much. Love the California T-shirt’s. So little California love at times. Never knew this existed. At least it’s near actual water...unlike China Lake near Ridgecrest...lol. But that’s still in use.
It’s very interesting how the sand is slowly overtaking some of those ruins - especially the bunkers! That whole area was shook pretty strongly on Easter Sunday back in 2010 when that 7.2 earthquake hit just south of the US/Mexico border. I’m surprised that concrete building didn’t show more quake damage than it appeared to have. Never heard of this place until I saw your video. Cool video!
I grew up at the Salton Sea. My grandparents lived on finger #5. Our folks would dump us for 2 weeks every summer. From like 1985-1989. I think last time I went to see them there was in 1992 when my brother got his license. We drove by ourselves from Vegas to visit them for 2 weeks. The water always had alot of dead fish floating in it. We swam and skied in the Salton Sea. We fished and ate the fish. The Salton Sea is a very important migratory spot for many different species of bird, even though the salt level is rising. It was an adventurous place for us growing up. And yes, the smell is unique for sure.
So glad to see you're back! Always looking forward to your new adventures and I'm still in love with how casual yet informative and well researched your videos are :)
Yaaay I love it! So glad you're back. Big huggerz! As many times as I was out there, I never realized there was a military base. Then you for the exploring.
The bunkers are for munitions/ explosives. In modern times the area with the bunkers would be called a AHA, (Ammunition Holding Area). Good to see you both out and about again.
Welcome back guys! The Salton Sea is a fascinating (and kind of creepy) place! The first time I was there in 2019, the smell reminded me of Santa Monica, but was definitely not Santa Monica lol
Hey, one place we used to go to as kids in the '70s&'80s was "Satan's Castle", the ruins in San Bernardino Mountains. Cool ruins of a castle on the mountain. It was a spooky place with a great view! Hella cool place you two ought to examine. I'd love to see it through your lens.
@@jimmychanbers2424 I wish I had some, don't know how old you are but back then we didn't carry cameras around. We went mainly to party and such, DEFINITELY no cameras for that!
@@jimmychanbers2424 Yup, I am a '60s kid, NO cameras unless we knew something was up. LOL, we kept going back to the castle, and we never even thought to bring a camera. It used to be about the experience back then. I miss those times!
Welcome back glad to see you guys making videos again. I explored the Salton Sea about a year ago and man was it an urban explorers paradise. Hope to SEA another new video from you guys soon.
It's great that you two are back on RUclips following your sabbatical. Really like your new intro montage, and also the impressive and remote destination you visited on the shore of the smelly Salton Sea for today's video.
Welcome back! So glad you are well and able to travel. Am thrilled to see the next videos and Thank You for coming back to entertain us all with the new material. YIPPEE 🥳
A great welcome back video!!! I've been to the Salton Sea once - not the area you were in. A fascinating and smelly place with an unusual history. Thanks for adding to the mystery with the tour. So glad you're back and doing a great job once again! Best regards!
Welcome back!🥰 You both look great, refreshed and in such good shape! The pandemic caused me to put on a few pounds . Really nice to see some more of your adventures, the effort and research you put in is appreciated! Enjoy the mixing and editing you have done too. Happy New Year to you 😎
Glad you are back, what a place to go. The navy used to go check up on it a few times a year. However, they stopped as it was declared to toxic for personnel to safely go.
Very nicely done. A documentary tour of the remains of the base with historical narrative added. Truly a film worthy of broadcast on any exploration type channel programming.
Hello Bethany and Drew, sure missed your two. Happy to see you back. Every time I see videos on the saltan sea brings back vague memories when I was about 4 going to a resort there back in it's hay-day. That would have been about 1967. My grandparents and great grandparents both owned together a house in an up and coming city called Palm Srings at that time. I am pretty sure it was the salton sea that we went too back then. I just remember a lot of sand.
Awe yeah ya got ya boy Drew and that fine ass Bethany. He'll yeah. Back on it! Keep up the good work yall. I love yo videos. I'm glad to see em pop up on my shit again!
Brings back memories as a kid swimming on the eastern shore in the surf. That would have been 1965. Got the worst sunburn of my life there. Sad that became contaminated. …Claude
it is so great so see you again!! i really missed your amazing videos, and this one was really informative.. i remember driving past salton sea when our family went to arizona to visit my mom's parents (after our date shakes from hadley's of course) I never knew there was a naval base there. This was really informative and enjoyable! welcome back!
Hi! So nice to see ya again! Great video, my Dad was a Master Chief of the US Navy so I definitely had something in common with this! Looking forward to the New Year & your new adventures! ♥️
Great video Drew/Beth. I can see the extra production, editing and drone footage. My only suggestion for next time is to stay a little longer at the Salton Sea. The "real point of interest" are the people. Especially, on a thursday the town folks put on a free show.
Good to see that your back again! Very good video. It was really cool to see just how much dirt and sediment built up in these buildings over the years. It really doesn't take very long for nature to take over.
Fun having you back.
Consider “Giant Rock” in Mojave Desert.
Cool ,creepy, cosmic history.
Great to have you guys back!
Happy 2022 to you, our friend!
Josh & Amy !! My other favorite California Tubers !! My day is complete !
My wife and I truly are glad y'all are posting videos again. We missed your videos very much. Good luck and God Bless y'all on the new adventures.
This means a lot to us, thank you. We hope you and your wife get a chance to do some adventuring soon, too!
Welcome back!! Hope everything is good with the two of you.
I only care about Bethany.
