I live near here and in the 80's, when I was in High School, they had the road that is now a trail and you could drive up to the mine. There is only one steep section. There also used to be a room with core samples and dates you could access, don't know if it's still there. I also used to walk my dogs on the trail after they closed the road. Once the mine was sealed I never went back inside. I was there before the doors and seals were put in place. Thanks for bringing back some fond memories.
Another great episode!!! You win the BRAVEST Videographer Award for exploring the creepy mine!! I'm so thankful you survived with no incident!! And Yes, thank God no Earthquake while you were in there!! When's the next season start?!?
Srsly? Bravest? There's sooooo many channels on this platform that will blow your wig back if this strikes you as especially brave in the exploration of abandoned mines.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Jussayin'
Whoa that part where Drew was walking on that wooden plank with the steep drop into the abyss was scary AF!! Please prioritize your safety over trying to get the best shot for us! This was a great episode nonetheless!

LA and the Justice system really screwed up in the 1980’s, fatally I’m afraid, when all this gangbanger graffiti bullshit really started in earnest. They should have rounded up all those gangbangers and gangbanger wannabes - NOT some of them - ALL of them and then liquidated their sorry asses en masse . Too late now. They’re an out of control menace now, and I’m sorry to say, nothing but vermin. Back in the 70’s and 80’s I hiked many of these same trails and to some of the old hidden places that this nice couple chronicles on their channel and none of this kind of graffiti existed back then. The smog was a LOT worse back then though :( Oh well. Sun some lose some. Sorry to rag. Enjoy the show and the hike. I really love this channel.
I really enjoy your videos - interesting places, well researched, cinematography & commentary. I worked for JPL on projects in the 1970s, including a stent living in Pasadena & doing testing near Wrightwood. Love seeing that area represented. Keep up the good work!
If you ever find yourself in the Black Hills of South Dakota near mount rushmore there are a bunch of abandoned mines, The coolest two are ingersoll and the etta mine they both have multiple tunnels and large open cuts. Ingersoll has a large 4 story building and etta has turned into a 100' deep lake inside the open cut, from the top it almost feels like a volcano with water inside it. The locals call the Etta mine "Hole in the wall" Because of all the tunnels carved into the sides of the walls of the open cut.
Still one of my favorite episodes! You two are amazing! We love what you do. 👍👍👍 I just saw a notification for a new episode that was posted 7 days ago. Gotta love RUclips and it’s notification issues.
What I like is that I can see something on TikTok about a hike that looks interesting. I come on here and find my two favorite explorers have already been there. 🙌🙌
Glad I found this, just the kind of things I love doing, although further South , Anza-Borrego dessert and environs. Be safe , have fun , thanx for the vids.
I thought I'd watch this episode again after a long while, and I enjoyed it even more than the first time. You two were very brave, or crazy, or both, to enter this mine and explore as far back as you went! I love this episode. It's a piece of history that is unique to CA. You can imagine the miners coming and going, the sounds of the cars, the rocks in the chute....awesome. How scary and dangerous it must have been for them! Thanks for this great episode!
It's never a good feeling being in an old mine, but you guys kept going to show us. I had no idea that mine was there since hard rock mining wasn't worth doing in S Cal. Love your videos thank you!!!
Wow, serious kudos for a great season finale, you definitely delivered! I don't know if i would've been comfortable going that far in the mine. From Bethany's Tomb Raider-esque entrance into the mine to the bat just hanging around, this is probably one of my favorite of your videos. And very, very responsible of you to remind your viewers to let someone know where & when you'll be back from a remote hike. This simple precaution could make a world of difference. The only complaint is we'll have to wait what will feel like ages for Season 3 :{ Great Season, be safe and, oh yeah, bring back Pronunciation Dave!
We're glad you enjoyed the episode our friend! Thank you for sticking with us through this whole season :) We have a couple things coming up, so stay in touch! :)
WELL, in spite of the white knuckles (mine), this was definitely one of the most adventurous and thrilling Oddity Odysseys ever! The views, the mystery of what's around the next corner, the rotting wood......OMG! Brave explorers, and I felt as if I were along for the trip. Imagine the miners themselves, working to bring out even a tiny bit of gold and ever hopeful. Just like I was hopeful that you would make it out alive! LOL!!!!!! Thanks for a great season with one super adventure after another. OO is the best thing going. Keep up the excellent work!!!!!!!!!!! Fan base is growing. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
07:11 - I feel it. This absolute silence. I was a mechanic in a coal mine. The floors/stages were between 800-1300m deep below the surface. In some old unused tunnels, far away from the mine-shaft, there was absolute total silence. Completely nothing and I mean really really nothing, just your heartbeat and your breathing. I would like to be in this state again. Far away from all the loud noises and everything around me. But all mines in Germany have been closed for ever.
12:10 Its an ore shoot. When miners would find gold or other ores like coal or iron they would drop it down that slide into a mine cart on the lower/main level.
Really like you guys' work. You've shown me several things I had no clue of and brought back some memories too. Bethany...You are genuine bad-ass..Gorgeous too.
Another great video sone of the wood in the mine looked in good condition and loved the bit at the end about safety so many for get to pop that on at the end of videos and the bat was so cute to
That spot you were standing at 10:00 min through caved in last time i went there. It was about a 10-12 foot drop. But other explorer's dug a hole that leads down to the connecting tunnels and even dug an exit hole on the other side of the mine. The holes are extremely small and sketchy. On the outside of the mine on the way up to the door avoid touching or using the metal to pull you up the hill to the mine entrance. Its barely hanging on to the mountain.
I went there yesterday on some amateur spelunking with some friends and I can confirm the area before the elevator shaft is collapsed with only a rickety, loose piece of wood to cross. Definitely had an overwhelming feeling that the mine was very delicate while we were in there.
Loved this episode :) I love all the episodes tho lol.. I'm so sad it's over :( You guys should do some stuff in Kern county where I live , there is all kinds of cool stuff around here. One of my favs is silver city ghost town in bodfish, they do lantern tours and ghost walks.. Can't wait till next season, until then love and hugs guys ❤️❤️❤️ I've said it before and I'll say again, you guys need a tv show!!
Thank you so much Kendra! But don't worry, we aren't going too far away ;) Thanks for the suggestions! We would love to branch out a little for season three.
2:45 I just went to the mine today and went the other way at first since the other sign was etched out and I thought the mine gulch trail would either lead to the mine or have another way back to the other trail. It wasn't until I ran into some other people who said the mine was at the other trail on the right of the fork that I had to turn around.
Hey Colby! We went back a couple of weeks ago, and indeed, the sign's condition hasn't fared too well since we made this video. We'll be releasing another video soon that shows what you run into if you take the Mine Gulch trail. Glad you were able to make it out okay! Did you go inside the mine?
We hiked that without water once, which wasn't smart and I couldn't get over the big log going in due to stomach surgery complications (you have to lay on your stomach to get over it) and was so upset. I've never been able to get over that I was so close and couldn't go inside. It's still open.
I would love to take a push broom and sweep out the mine just imagine all the goal that had to travel across the floors to sweep it out I bet you would find gold lot of work low that would be cool
Hi Owen! We went back recently and will have an update video (most likely next month) to release that shows Big Horn in its current condition. :) Stay tuned!

We live in the desert, so we go to devils punch bowl and Joshua tree often. I've heard the trail is easier than the devils bowl so I'm hoping it will be. We have head lamps, flashlights, and I think going just in the entrance of the mine will be an adventure for them. Thank you for the tips, I will be super vigilant of where we step.

It’s great place to pan for gold in the streams! Take materials around the tracks and pan it?
You two are very brave to go in the mine. Anything can happen inside, and how do you find your way out after going through so many shafts.
It didn't stop producing gold. There is still gold inside Baiden Powell. Just costs more then its worth to retrieve it.

Cool
I love you guys. Hope you guys come back soon. Great job. You guys are the best
Where did you guys stash the gold you found
Bethany looking like Lara Croft with those boots and pants. This was cool to see, I’d be too nervous to go in there myself.
Super fun hike to Big Horn Mine. Here is another short video on the hike with some tips: ruclips.net/video/n_T3Wdo9UUQ/видео.html
Cool episode! Have you explored any of the old mines in the vicinity of Big Bear?
...again, very good work...how do you find these places? Looks like Yosemite in places.
Yah need a metal detector?? Have you ever panned for gold on the San gabriel river???? There is gold there!!!!! 😎🤓⚒⛏
Once upon a time there was a stamp mill, right on the edge of the dropoff near the mill building outside. I guess it fell off.
OMG , what happens if your flashlight batteries run out !!!!????
The tailings of the mine might contain a good amount of gold
They’ve definitely had to have repaired that bat bar after this video has been posted. Looks like a neat place though!!

I know He can move mountains,. but just not today!! Love That Quote, Drew!!! At 10:25 Minutes - This is a dangerous adventure guys!!
Wow last time I was up there wasn’t blocked off
At some point the amount of extractible gold bearing ore versus the value that the gold could sold for made it not worth it. That doomed the mine
I like you guys videos, hate the state you are in though

my claustrophobic was threw the roof in this video
Myra, we miss you! :)
I would camp there overnight a couple days!
Ok, you guys are cool
Mount Lowe Remains would be a cool video
Thank you for the suggestion! We're always looking for new places :)
At least ya guys got out of there easily
EPIC!!!!!!
You saved the best for last
But, guys this was kinda dangerous!!!!
And we want more of pronounciation Dave!!!!
Please hurry back!!!!
Tony
We'll see you soon Tony! :)
